Pukwudgie Encounter?

I recently came across the following post. What are your thoughts?:

Around 2010 I saw something in my house. I was up studying, it was around 2am. I had my 160lb Roman Rottweiler sitting on the bed with me. For reference he wasn't really scared of anything, he was well-trained and always followed my commands without hesitation. He's also a very friendly dog despite the reputation of Rottweilers being more of a "loves the family but suspicious of others" breed.

Normally when there is a bear outside he can tell and he'll give me that low quiet growl and walk to the door. I let him out and he'll chase it off, he knows to not pursue or attack it. He doesn't even react to deer in the yard because he knows they're no threat.

Back to my studying, if I remember correctly it was bovine anatomy. I had finished my notes and decided to change my music. All of a sudden he starts whimpering, he doesn't really do that unless it's something serious. Once when he got bit by a snake and the other time was when a tornado got close.

I loved on him, patted him and told him to "stop that whining." I guess it didn't click at the time that something might have been wrong. He jumps up suddenly, posted up. Teeth showing, guttural growling and his scruff is on end. He's staring at my bedroom door so I look to see what it is that has him so freaked out.

This thing was about 3 feet tall. It had a pointed nose and ears. The eyes were long and bloodshot looking, the pupils were way bigger than they should have been. Looking at them was like staring into a dark hole. It's hair was long and matted, really dirty looking. It's arms/hands/feet seemed longer than they should have been. I couldn't tell exactly what it was wearing but it looked like some kind of hooded poncho that was tattered and covered in mud. It's skin was almost an olive color but was covered in dirt. The lips were extremely think and it had a kind of smirk on its face.

I couldn't even move, I just had a hold on my dog. Unable to speak I'm sitting there just staring at this thing. Then it f**king smiled at me revealing sharp teeth. When I say sharp teeth I mean it looked like when a person files their teeth into points. All the while my dog is still growling like I've never heard. I buried my head in my dog and didn't move for what felt like hours, in reality 10 minutes had passed. I guess that kid part of me came out and I was doing the equivalent of hiding under the blanket so the monster can't get you.

Even though I was terrified he seemed to calm down after a while and I looked up, this thing was gone. I grabbed him by the collar and drug him through the house with me so I could make sure all the doors and windows were locked. My front door was wide open when I made it into the living room.

I didn't sleep that night and I didn't sleep well for a good while after that afraid this thing would come back. I noticed after the incident I started waking up with my dog laying over my body like he was trying to pin me. This lasted for weeks but eventually stopped. He still followed me anywhere I went though, I couldn't even close the bathroom door without him trying to get in.

Just thinking about that thing still fills me with a sense of dread and terror. I've always lived alone so it's not as if a roommate planked me and there's no way what I saw was human.

It's crazy to think that if you told others they'd think you're crazy or think you're just telling them a spooky story. I came across a story about 6 years ago that was extremely similar after some extensive searching. I just had to figure out what it was. I tried contacting the OP but the post was old and I never got a reply back. I can't even remember what site it was on I just know it was a forum.

I've never seen anything like that and I've never experienced anything weird like that again. Life moved on but I still think about that encounter. I know I wasn't asleep and I know I'm not crazy. All of my searching just led me to things like fairy-folk. I don't even believe in that stuff.

Maybe this isn't the appropriate place to post this but I figured I ought to give it a try and see if any of you might know. Sorry about the poor structure this is a bit of a rant. I've never really told people about this and it has my mind buzzing. The_Cynical_Old_Man on Reddit

The witness added the following information:

After someone suggested it was a troll I googled sightings in my area. A few counties over in 2008 a woman claimed to have seen something that is similar to what I saw.

There are also other reports mostly involving encountering these things on the road. But they seem to be larger in stature.

And another update:

I've been up all night searching and the closest thing I came up with was the Pukwudgie though those seem to be "native" to Massachusetts as far as I can tell.

After reading about them though one thing stuck me as odd. They start fires. My house burnt down a few months after seeing this thing and they couldn't ever identify what caused it. I almost died and was in the hospital for a few months due to scarring on my lungs.

'Oh my God! Is this real?'

Dave from Vancouver called in to tell of his creature sighting:

“I got a story from about 15 years ago, maybe 17 years ago. A buddy of mine had picked me up from work. I know there was three of us in the car and he had a place out on Highway 6 going to Chilliwack. We got on 26 and we cut across a road that goes from, I forgot, but it's where they had that fish pond out there on 26. Crossed over to Highway 6. Well, we were way up there on that dirt road when... I mean it was wide and it had sheer rock cuts coming down the side of it and we come around this corner, and as we come around this corner there was something. I was never a believer before but there was something standing in the middle of the road and I'd like to be able to tell myself it was something explainable but this thing it was really tall, it had long hair and I mean it just kind of stood there and my friend, he swerved to go around it and when he swerved to go around it. I was looking out the passenger window and if my window would have been down I could have touched this thing it was so close to us. I mean it was... It was... It looked like a big man. It was black. It was going back toward the tree line as we passed him. The other two people in the car, one person said it was a tree stump, the other person said it was a man or a bear. I just, I try to rationalize it. I try to think what else it could have been but I really don't believe he could have been anything other than a Bigfoot. When I saw it, I was just like, 'Oh my god! Is this real?' For a long time I would tell myself it was something else but it really couldn't have been anything but a Bigfoot. I mean it was really big.”

A UFO Sighting Then a Bigfoot Encounter. Is it Just a Coincidence?

During the afternoon of May 14, 2018 at a rural location in Greene County, Pennsylvania, a woman was closing a bedroom window as a storm was approaching. When she looked out the window, she noticed that about 150 feet away, a strange object was hovering above the neighbor’s house. The object was described as a dark hat-like saucer shaped object about 20-25 feet in length and approximately 8-10 feet high. As the witness watched, the object banked then moved off through the sky toward the southeast and was lost from sight.

It was two days later not that far away at a location between Greene and Washington County that another strange incident occurred. That afternoon, the driver of a car noticed a truck pulled over to the side of the road. There was a person inside the truck as well as a person standing outside of it. They were both pointing toward a hillside. The driver of the car slowed down to look and saw what appeared to be an upright creature, about 6 ½ to 7 feet tall covered with black or brown hair. The creature was walking on two legs and had stepped out of the tree line. The witness was startled, and realized that this thing had no muzzle like a bear. The creature took 4 or 5 steps then went back into the woods and was gone. The witness believed that what was seen was likely a Bigfoot.

On the evening of July 14, 2018 a driver was passing through a business area in a suburb of Pittsburgh when he noticed something unusual. His attention was drawn to a luminous orange object hovering about 100 feet over the area. The witness said that it was difficult to describe the shape but it was similar to a lantern but not round like a sphere. The silent object suddenly began to move off from a hovering position and began to exit the area through the sky at the same altitude it had been hovering. The object moved toward the north and was lost in the distance. The driver pointed the object out to a pedestrian who was walking nearby while it was over the area.


It was within the hour, and only miles away from where the UFO had been reported, that a family having a picnic had a close encounter with a Bigfoot. You can read the account here.

Jesus Painting Survives Inferno

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - An historic Wakefield church went up in flames in Tuesday night.

The First Baptist Church suffered an apparent lightning strike during the severe weather moving across Massachusetts.

Crews began dismantling the remnants of the historic landmark in the rain Wednesday morning.

The 150-year-old building will now be torn down completely.

Just one painting hanging in the front entrance of the church was left behind, nearly untouched.

It has just a few little drips on it, but otherwise, the painting depicting Jesus Christ survived the inferno Tuesday night and now resides inside a parishioners' house.

On the evening of September 10, 2018, a man was riding down a rural road in Derry Township in Westmoreland County. It was a rainy night when his headlights caught something about 75 feet ahead of him that seemed to “appear out of nowhere.” Whatever it was, it was in the middle of the road and moving from left to right.

The witness said when he first saw this being he first thought it was fog. He soon realized there was no fog in the surrounding area. The witness said it was hard to describe what he saw, and that it was a humanoid form that was foggy or misty in appearance. The man stated that it was a “foggy white form” that was about 6 ½ to 7 feet tall. The creature seemed to be somewhat stooped as it moved. The physical traits that stood out to the witness were the huge muscular shoulders and a small waist. There was a head but he couldn’t see it clearly.

The arms and legs were also not clearly discernible. The witness observed the creature from its left side for several seconds. The creature crossed the road and entered into a field where it seemed to just vanish. The man could not see its feet and stated that it moved “almost like it floated.” The witness didn’t notice any smell or sounds during the observation.

The incident took place only a short distance from the Chestnut Ridge where there has been a long history of UFOs, Bigfoot, and other cryptid encounters.

Winged Humanoid Observed in Fayette County, WV

I received the following account after posting Black Winged Humanoid Encounter Near Rockford, Illinois:

Hi Lon, hope things are going well. I read about the winged humanoid in your latest newsletter. I've been following these stories in your newsletter pretty closely. The newsletter that was in my inbox today really struck me, because I have seen something similar - the 'Jeepers Creepers' description was dead on.

Long story short, I don't remember the exact year, but this would've been the mid-80's. My best guess is 1985 or 1986. It was a summer evening in Oak Hill, West Virginia (Oak Hill is a small town in the south-central part of the state, about 15 minutes from Beckley, WV, or about 1 hr from Charleston, WV). I was between 7-8 years old at the time and I was outside playing with my brother (1-yr younger than me) and our neighbor, a boy named Roy who was the same age as my brother, give-or-take a few months. We lived in a very rural area which, at that time, we probably had 3 or 4 neighbors within a 1 mile radius, and we effectively lived on the edge of the woods down a dirt road, probably half a mile from a real road. So there weren't many people around.

It was dusk and we were throwing rocks to bats. Today, it seems strange, but back then it was something kids in the area did. Bats are common in the area and around dusk in the summer they are out in force to catch bugs. You'll see dozens of them and they usually fly approximately 40' off the ground or less. If you throw a small rock high in the air you can often get the bat to swoop down and catch your rock, presumably thinking it's a bug. It's interesting the things kids did before there was the internet, and we only had ABC and PBS on the TV back then, so this was entertainment at it's finest.

At any rate, we're throwing rocks to bats when we see what we at first thought was a monstrous bat flying higher in the sky than the others. I don't remember who spotted it first, but once it was pointed out, we were stunned. After staring at it for a few seconds, it was clear that this wasn't a bat. It was...something else...it was a creature in the shape of a man, but with wings. It had wings exactly like that of a bat, but it had distinct arms and legs, also. It was mostly gliding, with only the occasional flap of its wings, which is unlike a bat, which constantly flaps its wings, and it's arms were sort of lazily hanging behind it at its side. It looked tall, but lanky, but it was too high in the sky to really get a good estimate of size. I know today that it's pretty easy to get size estimates really wrong on objects that are flying, like large birds. I also can say that it was dark, but I couldn't tell you anything about coloration...it was dusk and the light was relatively low by that point, and we were seeing it mostly as a silhouette. We saw a head, but never a face...I don't think it was looking down. My best estimate is that it was about 2 - 2.5x as high as the bats, so that would probably put it at around 100' off the ground, but I could easily be way off...it wasn't a detail that I focused on at the time.

We watched this creature for a little while...maybe 15 seconds or so. We were transfixed, standing there with slack jaws, trying to comprehend what we were seeing. Then we snapped out of it, we looked at each other, and simultaneously we ran toward the house to get my dad. I remember my dad was home but my mom wasn't. We ran inside and told him to come outside quick - we told him that we had seen the devil. Of course we thought it was the devil...that's how we would've contextualized it within our very limited framework at the time. He told us that he was sure that we hadn't seen the devil but he reluctantly decided to come outside and check. By the time he did, whatever it was had gone. He reassured us with some platitudes, but he obviously didn't believe us. We were all pretty shaken by the sighting, and we talked about it for weeks afterwards. I slept in the bed with my parents that night, and for at least a week afterwards.

This incident actually spurred my interest in the supernatural. Later, as a teenager, I learned about the Mothman sightings and wondered if that had been what we had witnessed - with the West Virginia connection it was natural to think it may have been. But the descriptions never really fit perfectly, and we weren't very close to Point Pleasant. It wasn't until the reports starting appearing in your newsletter that it became clear that others had been seeing exactly what I had seen. The Jeepers Creepers description really is the most apt description that I've seen. I'm a scientist (or was, anyway), so I have trouble reconciling what we saw with reality as I know it, but I am sure that we saw something.

Not really much to tell beyond that. My brother passed away many years ago, and I haven't spoken to Roy in probably as long. He's had some struggles with substance abuse as an adult and I've kept my distance. None of us discussed the incident since we were adults, though we did discuss it at some point in our teens. I wanted to share just to give you an additional data point in your investigation. I expect that we'll never really know what people are seeing, but it's good that someone is documenting it, for posterity, if for nothing else.

Red-Robed Figures in Church Lot

Steve in Knoxville, Tennessee called in to tell of his alien sighting:

“This is the truest story I've ever told. This was 40 years ago. I got out of high school in the spring of '73. That fall, a buddy of mine, I didn't have a car yet, a buddy of mine come out and we got another buddy. We lived close to the Tennessee campus. We went over to get a pitcher of beer. There were no girls with us to bother us or anything like that. Well, we got a pitcher of beer and came back to my neighborhood and one of us had to relieve ourselves, so we turned into a Baptist church parking lot that I've attended a time or two. We turned up into the driveway. There were about six characters dressed in cowled red robes like a monk wears; hood, robe all the way down to the ground. So we come around the corner of this church. My buddy driving his beat up old VW Beetle, freaked out, hit the reverse, made a U-turn and got out of there. We tried to get him to go back but, of course, he wouldn't let us. The oddest thing about it was, these people, whoever it was, seemed to move strangely. It almost looked like a scatter-shot thing, elbows raising, that sort of thing – they just kind of moved around the corner. I've wondered about that for 40 years. I haven't got a clue. All this time, we just kinda figured it was devil worshippers. I'll never know but it sure has freaked me all these years.”

City Bans Clown Costumes For Halloween

The annual Boo Bash is held at the city's community center. The city's public invitation invites people to "enjoy cider and donuts" at the trick-or-treating event. Kids are invited to wear their favorite costume, but the invitation says "clown costumes are not allowed."

The Oakland County Times got the following explanation from the city's recreation director:

“This event is centered around young children,” Laurie Stasiak said in an email to the newspaper. "In the past few years many clown costumes have been given a very scary and evil look. Many scary and horror movies are centered around these types of characters. About 3 years [ago] there were national incidents in the news were people were dressing up as clowns and scaring people and in some cases assaulting them. Many people have phobias and anxiety about clowns. It’s because of this that we asked people not to dress up as clowns for this community event.” Read more at No clowns allowed. Black Winged Humanoid Encounter Near Rockford, Illinois

I recently received the following account:

I just found out about the flying humanoid sightings around Chicago. In fact, I'm going to get the book and see if there is anything related to what I encountered in the summer of 2010.

This took place in northern Illinois, not far from Rockford. My friend and I were just just riding around in my car. As the day continued we decided to head out towards the country backroads. We were both 17 and this was the summer before our senior year in high school.

We had been riding around for several hours at night, and around 10PM we are on a gravel road I wasn't familiar with. It was a location that had lots of farmland all around and a few houses here and there. We were talking while I'm speeding along this gravel road. There was no drinking or drugs involved. The corn on both sides of the road was high.

I looked ahead and noticed that the road was about to dip, so I slow back. As I approached the dip, I could see the corn shaking to the right of me as the headlight hit it. We both stopped talking as we watched the corn. I thought it was probably deer about to sprint out onto the road, so I slowed down to a crawl. The corn was now shaking violently. We're staring at the corn waiting for the deer to jump out.

Then all of a sudden, the corn literally parts open just to the right of us. This 'thing' steps out. It was the size of a large man and all black. As it walked out of the corn it was well illuminated by my headlights. It leaped and opened these huge set of wings, and instantly went airborne. It quickly flew right in front of my car and swooped up into the air as it reached the other side of the road. I swear, the first thing that came to my mind was the 'Jeepers Creepers' monster! I didn't see any facial features, but the wings were very wide and looked like that of a giant bat!

I floored the gas pedal. My friend was yelling to get out of there! I drove as fast as I could, trying to maintain control on the gravel surface. We drove for a good 5 minutes before saying a word. The whole time we're looking around us, hoping that thing wasn't chasing us. We began to calm down and soon ended up on a road I knew.

As I thought about it, that thing looked like it was covered in shiny black tar. It had a weird sheen to it. The fact that it accelerated into flight so quickly had me stumped. My friend and I talked about it through our entire senior year and never did have a clue as to what we saw. We referred to it as the 'Flying Tar Man.' We didn't dare tell anyone else at school. I recently told my wife about it, but she's a skeptic and doesn't believe in the supernatural.

Anyway, after I heard about the sightings around Chicago, I figured I'd track you down and write about it. I live in Texas currently. Thanks for reading. Curt.

NOTE: I called Curt today to discuss the incident. This occurred in Winnebago County, north of Rockford, Illinois on a gravel farm road off of Rt. 70. He said he believes it was somewhere near Wempletown. The description is similar to the winged humanoids reported to us in 2017. He told me that the height was about 6 foot, and that the body was very thin. He estimated that the wing span was about 15 foot. He also said that it definitely had arms and legs. The Man in the Bathtub

Alan Spence wrote in to tell of a strange sighting he had:

“I had been working in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and had been staying in the room there a couple weeks, going home to Ohio on weekends. The last leg of the job was installing a new DMS PH system for Bell Company there. We had to go to third shift to run power and hook up. One morning a snowstorm was brewing up and the lead Bell tech said, we work through lunch and we can leave at 3:00 AM to get back to our rooms and ride out the storm. So after grabbing an early morning L&K breakfast to go, I hit my room at about 4:15 AM and ate while watching SportsCentre.

About 5:30 I felt really cold. I could see my breath. I got out of bed and kicked the heater up to high. And got back into bed. This is when I saw a ghost walk past the TV and into the bathroom. I leaped from my cozy warm bed and ran outside. Snow blowing, wind was like 20 miles an hour and very cold. It looked like that thing from the alien movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, the head hunting alien, kind of watery and see through. So I stood outside for a minute or so before a car door shook me out of my WTF kind of moment. I walked back into my room slow.

As I stood at my bed's edge I heard the shower running. And I at first thought it was next door then I noticed the bathroom door open. I kept it shut most times in my hotel rooms. Always have. As I walked to the bedroom door and pushed it open, I looked in. At first I looked at the shower head and noticed no water was coming out. Then as I looked down I felt as if I was being watched and I saw HIM sitting in the tub. He turned his head more my way and he was looking right at me. Oh my God! I freaked out and ran straight down the stairs and into the office. Nothing but my boxers on. That was it. I stood there trying to tell them there was a ghost in my room and before I knew it, a blanket was tossed on me and a lady was telling me to have a seat in the breakfast room asking if I like coffee or hot chocolate. The other lady telling me that I was okay and that they would have me moved to a ground level room ASAP. No small talk. I was mind blown. This is a 100% true story.”

Massive Bigfoot Encountered in Siskiyou County, CA

I recently received the following account:

I decided to come forward with an encounter I had in early September. I live in Etna, California (Siskiyou County) and occasionally go out to enjoy the nature in Klamath National Park, which is nearby. I've lived in the area all my 38 years, and I've heard all the stories about Bigfoot. There was a well-known story about a possible Bigfoot seen in the Marble Mountain Wilderness several years ago. In fact, there was a video associated with the incident. I'm not sure what that sighting was, but many locals believe it was a Bigfoot. I didn't really believe in Bigfoot until my encounter.

It was late afternoon, and I was driving along Sawyers Bar Rd. out near the old reservation area. I was hauling some supplies for a friend. It was kind of overcast, but not raining. As I was driving, I noticed something big and dark moving up towards the road from the Etna Creek ravine on my right. It startled me because I just didn't understand what it could be. This thing was very large and tall, and it was moving at a fast clip.

As it got up to the road, it grabbed a small pine tree and pulled itself up over the edge. It flung itself onto the road and vaulted the width in a long leap. There is a steep rise in the trees on the left side, but it ran up the slope like there was nothing to it.

Well, it was definitely what people describe as a Bigfoot, but the size of this particular creature was astounding. It had to be at least 8 ft. tall and the body was all massive defined muscle, covered in thick reddish brown hair that had a strange sheen. Not like it was reflecting light, but that it looked 'oily.' I didn't get a very good look at the face, but it definitely had a human likeness. It crossed the road no more than 50 ft. in front of me. I hit the gas pedal and didn't stop until I reached my destination.

When I finally stopped and got out of my truck, my knees were shaking and weak. I had to get back in the cab, fearing I would collapse to the ground. I sat there for about 10 minutes trying to gather my thoughts, realizing I had actually seen a Bigfoot.

I told my brother-in-law what I had seen. He has never believed in Bigfoot, but he was interested in what I told him. He is a hunter and fisherman who spends a lot of time out in the forest. He says that he's never seen a Bigfoot or come across any evidence, but I'm not sure that is the truth.

“I had a hard week driving logging truck in northern British Columbia, Canada. I was in a solid sleep when I woke up with an intense sense of fear in the middle of the night. I saw a huge, very powerful dog or gargoyle-kind of creature was standing at the foot of my bed. It scared the crap out of me. I was a very fit and powerful young man back then. About 6'4', 230 pounds and was not used to this feeling. It took all I had to reach for the light on the nightstand and as soon as the light came on it was gone. It took a few minutes for the hairs on my neck to relax. Next day, I told a very close friend what had happened. He looked at me for a few seconds and responded, 'Maybe it was there to protect you'. I have been thinking on that ever since. It's now around 20 years ago. I still think on that. Just a thought.”

'Polio-Like' Illness Spreading

A "polio-like" condition that has left children in 22 states paralyzed may be more widespread than previously announced due to inadequate testing protocols and voluntary reporting requirements, experts say.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that there have been 62 confirmed cases of Acute Flaccid Myelitis so far this year.

Since the first known outbreak of AFM in 2014, the devastating illness has reemerged with at least 50 confirmed cases between August and October in even-numbered years.

AFM often begins with signs of a respiratory infection but quickly progresses. Within a few hours, patients may have difficulty breathing and develop "flaccid weakness," and one or more limbs may become paralyzed. Powerful Earthquakes Detected Off Vancouver Island

Several powerful earthquakes have been reported near Vancouver Island, Canada, including a magnitude 6.8.

The U.S. Geological Survey says several powerful quakes were reported Sunday evening. The of the depth the largest is about 6 miles (10 kilometers) and it struck about 149 miles (239 kilometers) west of Tofino, Canada.

Geophysicist Amy Vaughan says the three larger quakes ranged from magnitude 6.5 to 6.8 and that there were possibly some smaller ones as well as some aftershocks. Vaughan says the quakes were lightly felt onshore and that as of now no injuries were reported.
