10-12 FOOT TALL BIGFOOT Shrouded in Heavy Fog, Vanishes in Rural Tennessee

Mike, an ex-military man, was on his front porch in rural Tennessee on a bright and sunny day when he heard a loud roar/growl. The next day, he observed what made the sound.

“I woke before dawn. We had a storm that night and there was a heavy fog everywhere. It was just starting to get light, and I stepped out my door and looked across the street to the pond. The fog was swirling around and coming off the pond. As I looked at the far edge of the pond, a creature stood up. It was 10 to 12 feet tall and had a conical-shaped head. There were long arms that went to its knees and covered in fog, like it was sticking to it. It was thin for its size. It looked at me but I couldn't make out many features due to the fog. Then it turned and took three huge steps, at least 8-foot strides, and vanished. I know what I saw but I haven't told many people about it.”

I AM A REPTILIAN/HUMAN HYBRID!

I received this statement several years ago from an individual who claimed to be a reptilian/human hybrid being. What are your thoughts on the information provided?

I received the following account:

"I've been in contact with Terrestrial "Aliens" since I was a child. It was weird lights and apparitions when I was younger. Around the age of 18, it started turning into physical abductions at night and randomly seeing crafts periodically. This carried on all throughout my life until the age of 32, At the age of 32 it turned into something completely different. A week before I turned 32 my body started transforming. I have holographic orbs and serpents swirling around me now. It's an energy that I do not completely understand, It's part of me & incomparable to anything I've ever seen. It changes color and can move through solid objects; It reacts intelligently. This energy is inside and outside of me at the same time and It never leaves me or stops existing. The energy regenerates my body and mind, It heals me and can heal others. At one point during the transformation, There was an etheric injection in my arm and I felt a spark jump into my body 'it shocked me", Now my eyes glow different and I feel like I have more energy and soul than did before. There's also a lot of energy work going on with my Chakras while lying in bed at night. This transformation has been going on for almost 10 months now. It will be a year around the end of December. The race of Aliens that I'm in contact with is "The Reptilians."

The Reptilians sent me holographs to communicate, They showed me our history through holographs "We evolved from Earth-based Draconians" and then there was some kind of war that's still being fought. From what I've gathered, I'm a Reptilian/Human Hybrid. There's a Hybridization program right here on earth with RH Negatives Blood types and other hybrids do exist. Unfortunately, most have been killed, or haven't evolved enough mentally, physically, & spiritually, or want nothing to do with the Reptilians, out of fear or being brainwashed by organized religion. As of right now, there are only a handful of Awakened/Empowered Hybrids.

So, there it is. I'm in direct contact with Reptilians. "They exist" and we've formed a bond; they're really good to me. They guide, protect, and upgrade me. I wouldn't be alive without them. They've even saved my life multiple times; I trust them more than I do most humans. When the Reptilians manifest on Earth sometimes the females will come down to play. They look like the Celtic/Nordic race. I can always tell when it's one of them because the women are always perfect, with a glow to them and stars in their eyes. It will only be for some time, a few days or months, and then after that, they just disappear, never to be seen again. So basically from what I've gathered we have a race of Reptilian/Nordic Terrestrial Genetic and Technological Alien Masterminds right here with us on Earth. I stand by this firmly, I've spent almost 33 years of my life spinning in their web." M

BLACK BIRD OF CHERNOBYL: Sojourn With Disaster!

Beginning in early April 1986, the people in and around the little-known Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine began to experience a series of strange events involving sightings of a mysterious creature described as large, black, and bird-like with gigantic wings and piercing red eyes.

People affected by this phenomenon experienced horrific nightmares, threatening phone calls, and first-hand encounters with the winged beast which became known as the Black Bird of Chernobyl.

Reports of these strange happening continued to increase until the morning of April 26, 1986, when at 1:23 am, reactor 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant experienced a catastrophic steam explosion that resulted in a fire which caused a series of additional explosions followed by a nuclear meltdown. The power plant, located near Pripyat, Ukraine, Soviet Union, spewed a plume of radioactive fallout which drifted over parts of the Western Soviet Union, Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia, the UK, Ireland, and eastern North America. Large areas of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia were badly contaminated, resulting in the evacuation and resettlement of over 336,000 people. The Chernobyl Disaster, as the incident was dubbed, is considered the worst accident ever in the history of nuclear power.

Following the meltdown, and subsequent explosions and fires, Soviet helicopters were dispatched to the scene, equipped with special fire fighting gear, these helicopters circled the plant dropping clay, sand, lead, and other extinguishing chemicals onto the burning facility. Most of the fire was put out by 5 am with the fire burning within reactor 4 continuing to blaze for several hours after. The firefighters who responded were unaware of the nature of the fire, assuming that it was simply an electrical fire, and received masses overdoses of radiation leading to many of their deaths, including Lieutenant Vladimir Pravik, who died on May 9, 1986.

The workers who survived the initial blast and fire, but would later die of radiation poisoning, claimed to have witnessed what has been described as a large black, bird-like creature, with a 20-foot wingspan, gliding through the swirling plumes of irradiated smoke pouring from the reactor. No further sightings of the Black Bird of Chernobyl were reported after the Chernobyl Disaster, leaving researchers to speculate just what haunted the workers of the plant during the days leading up to the disaster.

The most commonly accepted theory suggests that the Black Bird of Chernobyl may have been the same creature spotted in Point Pleasant, West Virginia leading up to the collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1968. Investigators have suggested that the appearance of this creature is an omen of disasters to come in the area in which it shows itself. The physical description of both the Black Bird of Chernobyl and the Mothman, the creature sighted in West Virginia, are very similar, and the reports of nightmares and threatening phone calls leading up to these disasters are shared in both cases.

A second, less accepted theory, suggests that the Black Bird of Chernobyl was nothing more than the misidentification of the black stork, an endangered species endemic to southern Eurasia. The black stork stands nearly 3 feet tall and has a wing span of nearly 6 feet. This theory however fails to take into account the menacing phone calls and the the disturbing nightmares. Also, the physical description given by the majority of eyewitnesses who actually saw the Black Bird of Chernobyl does not in any way match the physical appearance of the Black Stork.

Both the Black Bird of Chernobyl and the Mothman have not been sighted since their respective disasters, leaving us with many unanswered questions. All we can do is wait for the beast to show itself again and give us a chance to figure out just what it may be, unfortunately, it would appear that for this creature to show up again we will have to anticipate some form of disaster in the area it has selected to appear.

THE BLACK BIRD OF CHERNOBYL: Further Descriptions

Beginning in April of 1986, a rumor tore through the ranks of what was then a little-known nuclear power plant located in the southern tier of the Ukraine - Chernobyl. In the days preceding the tragic meltdown, four Chernobyl employees had reported seeing what they claimed was a large, dark, headless man with gigantic wings and fire-red eyes.

Researchers now believe that the accounts surrounding this creature are similar to what investigators now recognize to be an archetypal Mothman event. Much like the Point Pleasant Mothman witnesses, these Chernobyl employees began to share unsettling and strangely similar experiences.

Some had been having horrifying nightmares, while others received threatening phone calls. According to accounts, some of these employees even mentioned their bizarre experiences to their superiors at the facility, but without evidence or any clear-cut indication of what the problem may be, there was very little these officials could do - even had they been willing to take action.

On April 26, 1986, during a routine test of Reactor 4, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was rocked by a massive explosion. Thirty people died that morning, followed by ten additional ten deaths due to radiation exposure. Over the next nine days, the graphite of the reactor continued to burn, resulting in tremendous environmental damage and an untold number of radiation casualties over the next 17 years.

As the Soviet helicopters circled the smoldering plant, dropping over 500 pounds of clay, sand, lead, and other extinguishing chemicals on top of the flames, some of the surviving workers - who, at the sacrifice of their own lives, heroically struggled to prevent any further destruction - claimed to have witnessed what has been described as a "20-foot bird" gliding through the undulating tentacles of irradiated smoke, which continued to spew from the reactor.

Mothman was said to have been seen when disaster threatened. It is not the only winged creature to be seen before a disaster. The Black Bird of Chernobyl was said to herald the explosion at a nuclear plant in Ukraine. On April 26, 1986, a massive explosion rocked the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Thirty people died immediately, followed by other deaths from radiation poisoning. For nine days the reactor continued to burn, resulting in tremendous environmental damage. The local population has suffered the consequences ever since. The Chernobyl Disaster, as it was called, is considered the worst accident in the history of nuclear power.

In the days before the tragic occurrence several Chernobyl employees had reported seeing a large, dark/ black shape like a headless man with gigantic wings and red, fire-like, eyes. As with the appearances of Mothman, people who had seen the phenomena had been having nightmares and some received strange phone calls. Some of the employees reported the strange things to their supervisors at the plant. Whether any sort of action was taken is unknown. After the explosion helicopters were brought in to drop extinguishing agents on the flames. Some of the pilots and the surviving workers said they saw a giant black bird flying away from the smoking reactor. Described by many as “a large black, bird-like creature, with a 20-foot wingspan, gliding through the swirling plumes of smoke." The bird has not been seen again.

The theory put forward was that the bird was a rare black stork. However, the stork has a clear visible head and its wingspan is only about 6 feet (1.9 meters), and it stands about 3 feet (1 meter) tall. It also would not explain the strange dreams and phone calls. So was this winged creature a portent of the disaster? There are other tales such as (but not the only story) Mothman about winged creatures being seen before the disaster. We can only wait and see if more tales surface, though I rather hope they don’t if it portends something bad happening. - Still On the Track

8-FOOT-TALL, FLUORESCENT-GREEN 'TRANSPARENT' HUMANOID Encountered by Police Officer

I received the following account from a former Stephenville, Texas police officer who encountered a bizarre tall, fluorescent-green humanoid while on patrol.

"Back in 2001, I was employed at the Stephenville, Texas Police Department as the patrol night shift sergeant. My shift was from 7pm - 7am. On this particular night, I had been at the police department for a short break. I walked out to my patrol car and left heading east. I drove one block over and noticed something on top of the post office that caught my attention. I stopped my patrol vehicle in the street between two vacant parking lots. The post office was located one block to the north of my position. This was a cloudless night and very clear. My driver-side window was down and was in direct line and view of what I was observing.

I first saw something light green getting larger as it was heading across the roof of the post office toward my direction. As I watched it, I began to realize it appeared to exactly resemble a person walking. It stopped at the edge of the flat roof of the post office on the side facing me and stopped. The best description I can give of the thing I saw is the following:

It appeared to be about 8 feet tall. I base this on the height of the post office wall in proportion to the thing's height. The body of the thing had a regular build to its height, meaning a person who has who was in good shape. Not fat or skinny. The most extraordinary item was the thing was transparent. The lines of the thing were fluorescent green which gave it somewhat of a mass but was still transparent. The thing had great 3D detail. Every feature except for the height appeared to be human. The clothing appeared to be what I would describe as a jumpsuit. But again, it was all one color and made up by its green outlines. The thing appeared bald to the best of what I remember. The thing stood at the edge, put its hands on its hips, turned its upper body, and began looking back off to the west as if it was observing something. It then turned and began looking off to the east for a few seconds. All I could think was that I couldn't believe what I was seeing and I hoped it didn't see me. A few seconds later it looked down directly at me. I didn't feel fear. I don't know if I could actually see a smile or just had that feeling like it was smiling and saying, "Well you saw me." I never felt threatened. The thing turned and began walking back the way it came. I remember saying to myself, like hell you're getting away.

I drove to the back side of the post office (northside). The walls of the post office are about 25 feet tall on all sides. I knew it couldn't jump down. I called the fire department which is located next to the police station and told them to bring a ladder truck over to the post office because I believed someone was on the roof. Another police unit left the police department and set up watching the opposite sides of the building. About 5 minutes later the fire department arrived. I told the others to stay down and I would check the roof. I climbed up on the roof and there was nothing. I searched the spot on the roof where it was standing and the path it walked and found nothing. I believe the roof was graveled but can't remember for sure. The officer and fire department personnel I'm sure thought I was nuts thinking someone was up there. I dared not tell them what I saw. So I sat on this for years and only told a few close friends about the experience. Since the internet has come out I have tried to research any other sightings such as this but have found nothing. I can say this with the utmost confidence. I know what I saw. There was too much detail in the thing. This was a very clear night. The thing had a dark sky behind it so it was easy to see, not to mention its size.

I have been retired from the PD for 4 years now. I run my own business and do private investigations and security contracts. If you have had any other reports like this I would greatly appreciate a response. This has bothered me for years and I just would like to know what y'all think I saw or what it could have been. Thanks in advance! If you need an exact time and date the police department should have made a call report on the incident. The month and day above are just a guess. I can't remember. But the year should be close." S

SHAPESHIFTING WINGED 'GOBLIN' Followed Chicago Family & Witness For 45+ Years!

This account was originally forwarded to me in November 2017. It has been updated recently after the witness contacted me.

The following list includes the locations where the witness had seen/encountered this winged being throughout the years. Her family has also witnessed the same being on numerous occasions:

- Lake Michigan while fishing on the shoreline, northern Indiana 1977
- Ravenswood Hospital, Chicago 1978 & 1979
- River Park, Chicago 1979 & 1980
- Des Plaines, Illinois 1980
- Massillon, Ohio 1980
- Lake Michigan 1981
- Meadow Bridge, WV 1982
- Fort Randolph, WV 1982
- Charmco, WV 1983
- Hines, WV 1984
- Leslie, WV 1984
- Orint Hill, WV 1985
- Statesville, NC 1987-2017 (several sightings)
- Cabin in Pigeon Forge, TN in July 2017 (last sighting)

"It's a shape shifter, but I think it's original form is about 7 foot tall creature with wings that span 12 feet or so total. It has a goblin-like face and ears with bat-like wings, but way more flexible. It's real dark brown, almost black in color. It has red eyes that almost glow in the dark. It has claw-like feet and very long fingers and arms. Arms are not connected to the wings, they are separate. Wings are more like on its back like a birds. Has a long tail and pointed at the end. It's extremely fast in this form.

Other forms it transforms into are:
- A moth-like creature. In this form its hands and wings are attached and it's closer to 6 feet tall with long teeth.

- It also takes the form of a bat but bigger, 3 feet in size with red eyes and black in color with long teeth. It's not super fast in this form but faster than a human being.

- It can also take on a goblin-like creature, hands and wings are separate. Gray and black in color with long teeth, human-like hands but long claws and sharp talons on its feet and drools. Red and brown eyes 3 1/2 foot tall. Slowest form, however it's still as fast as a cat when it needs to move. Licks itself in this form, like it's cleaning it's claws. Has a tail maybe 2 feet long.
It has been inside several homes we have lived in. It hates dogs. It perches up high to avoid being seen. It hides in the shadows, like it's stalking you, similar to a feline. It has an odor almost like a musty or moss-like scent. Once you smell it you never forget it. It's mean in nature and likes to show it's in control. No matter the form, it also has a loud screeching sound. It's hard to explain. No, I do not have a photo of it and I cannot explain why my family has seen it so many times. I have no answers but I know it's real.

Example of an incident, which occurred on the Lake Michigan shoreline in north Indiana. I was about 10 years old (around 1977). We had gone to visit my cousins and went fishing. We cleaned the fish at the lake and left the fish heads and scales on the river bank. This being flew down ate the remains. My cousin said as long as you give back it won't bother you. They had seen it several times before."

NOTE: When the witness and I talked, she described that the winged being lived in a vacant warehouse next door to their home on 1751 W. Berwyn St. in Chicago (Anderson neighborhood). This occurred during 1970-1974, and the being was observed many times by the family. When the family moved, it continued to follow them near their new location. The being made itself known to the witness after she became an adult. No one has been able to obtain a photograph. She and the family wish to remain anonymous, though the witness has been very forthcoming to me during our conversation and subsequent follow-up emails. It's obvious to me that she wishes for the encounters to end. Lon

7-8 FOOT TALL, RED-EYED WINGED HUMANOID Encountered in Wanatah, Indiana Backyard

As the result of the airing of 'The Mothman Revisited' episode in Season 4 of 'Unsolved Mysteries,' the producers collected reports from the viewers and forwarded the information to us.

The witnesses are being contacted to establish and confirm details of the sightings/encounters. If further information is received, it will be added to the report. We have received worldwide inquiries as well. The incidents specifically reported in the Chicagoland region can be found at the Chicago / Lake Michigan Winged Humanoid Regional Interactive Map.

The original report:

"I just wanted to tell you of an event that happened to me when I was around 12 years old. I witnessed what I believe to be the Mothman. This occurred in Wanatah, Indiana around 1996. I was awoken out of bed for some unknown reason and found myself telling me that I had left something of great importance outside the front of the house. I went out to get the item and while out there heard a noise on the side of the house. When I went to look I saw a dark shape with red eyes that appeared around 7 feet off the ground.

I quickly ran back inside and watched to see if anything attempted to come into the porch but all I heard was a loud woosh and then nothing else. Felt like it was compelling me to come outside. Oddly enough, that house ended up burning to the ground not long after this occurred. I never thought of it being connected. Being that it's referred to as a bad omen, who knows." EW

I later spoke to the witness by telephone:

Earl W. contacted me by telephone after I had written to him. In the summer of 1996, when Earl was 12 years old, he had been sleeping in the back room of his house on South Haskell Rd. in Wanatah, Indiana. It was a dark, early morning when he had been awakened by an unknown sensation that he had left something important in the yard. He got up and walked out onto the porch.

He began to walk in the yard toward the 7-foot tall fence which was about 30 feet away from the side of the house. That is when he noticed a 7-8 foot tall, dark-colored upright humanoid, with large long slits for eyes that projected a bright red light. As he walked toward it he began to realize how big the creature was, and then froze.

Earl saw an outline of large wings on its back, but he never observed the wings unfurl. He also saw chest muscle definition and heard 3 bumping repetitive sounds emanating from the being. Then the winged humanoid quickly ascended upwards, flying away with a loud 'whooshing' sound. The South Haskell Rd. house burned to the ground soon afterward.

Later, a neighbor told him that he had seen other strange beings in the woods behind his house. Whatever it was had tore open fox traps and stole the animals. After the house had burned down, Earl continued to hunt squirrels in the same woods. On at least two occasions, after bagging squirrels, Earl would leave the game in a secure location while he continued hunting. Each time, he returned to collect the squirrel carcasses, he saw trees branches, and bushes moving, discovering the squirrels had been taken.

Years later, after Earl married, he moved to Wayne Drive in LaPorte, Indiana. Since then, he has continued to experience unexplained activity in and around the property.

NOTE: The witness was very forthcoming and direct. It appears that Earl is highly intuitive and that he still experiences the sensation of unknown entities around him. These feelings are similar to those that other winged humanoid witnesses have expressed to me over the years, especially in the Chicagoland region. Lon

DEADLY UFO ATTACK on British Boy & Girl?

A reader directed me to a BUFORA report that was part of a British MoD UFO document. This report referenced an incident, somewhat eerie if compared to the Todd J. Sees death investigation:

"I decided to join B.U.F.O.R.A. as an area investigator, in London, UK. This position I had taken up afterwards I got to know - very well, as well as B.U.F.O.R.A. research procedures. I then went on investigations with (redacted) the investigation which was discussed was the strange disappearance of two Enfield children, in mid March 1970. A boy and a girl aged between 11 and 12; the girls name (redacted) was the boys name unknown. The two children lived a quarter of a mile north northwest of the King George the fifth reservoir, which is two miles long and half a mile wide. The two children had disappeared in mid-March and later turned up in June of the same year, dead in a clump of trees, a quarter of a mile North northeast of the reservoir, less than 350 yards from a well lit main road. Police with tracker dogs went over the entire area where the two children had lived, disappeared and reappeared. It seems strange that they should disappear for three months, then reappear next to a clump of trees; which had somehow been scorched from above. You may think that this has nothing to do with U.F.Os, but I shall now relate the uncanny events that surrounded their deaths, and perhaps I shall be able to show you how I think the two incidents relate. Even though there is a six month period between my U.F.O. sighting and the death of these two children, you will see how the evidence matches up. Meaning that when murder as we know it is ruled out, why then did the local press; The Waltham Forest Guardian Independent print the following:

1) They died from burn marks (possibly radiation or microwaves?)
2) They died from over exposure.
3) It went on to say that nobody knew how this could have happened.
4) Their bodies were not found close together, and one of the girls shoes was missing.

Isn't it strange that the other shoe the girl was wearing was clean? U.F.O.s have been known to attack and kill animals and leave burn marks (possibly radiation) on them. There is little possibility that the sun could have left such burns. And it is equally unlikely that they should just lay down and die from over exposure. U.F.Os hover above tops of trees and the ground and scorch the natural vegetation and nothing ever grows there again! This is the case of the trees where the children were found. Also, why were the police in the area for several weeks after the children were found, and why did they take away samples of the ground for analysis. In fact they removed part of the bushes from where the children were found.

If you drop two stones from the air they will not land in the same place or spot. As mentioned (their bodies were not found together). I strongly believe that they came into contact with alien beings, the common denominator being the King George the fifth reservoir. I feel that they died under strange duress and they were found at the time of a strong U.F.O. flap (a sighting every two or three weeks) in the immediate and myself interviewed some people in June-July 1972 at Sewardstone Berry, near where her and her boyfriend were found dead off of Sewardstone, which runs between Chingford and Waltham Abbey, Essex. But to no avail they seemed to be very scared when asked questions etc.

In mid-June 1970 when the childrens bodies were first found (redacted) myself were playing a game of chess at at around 1Opm, suddenly there were at least two to three police cars that came hurling along (redacted) the road. At the time my parents were out and we wondered what was happening. The date I can't remember, but I do remember we piled into my Ford Popular and followed the police cars to Sewardstoneberry; three miles down the road towards Waltham Abbey, Essex. When we arrived there were crowds of people by the fence in Sewardstone Road; a well lit main road. The police were everywhere, the time being 10.45 pm. The headlights from the police cars could be seen 350 yards away at the clump of trees, where they found (redacted) and her boyfriend dead. As mentioned both police and Wickstead and Nipperead Ministry of Defence were there for sometime afterwards, and the parents (redacted) her boyfriend didn't get there bodies back for three months after they were found dead?

The Public Records Act states that the Ministry Of Defence Official Secrets Act states that any U.F.O. reports (whether Close Encounters or just LITS) from members of the public should be treated by the department as strictly confidential. As U.F.O. records are closed to public scrutiny; until they become available in accordance with The Public Records Act (section 1 and section 2 of The Official Secrets Act). At the end of a thirty year period of time (covering The Official Secrets Act) we will have to in certain cases look at all the points of view very carefully indeed."

WEREWOLF-LIKE CREATURE Attacked Livestock on Filipino Island: WAS IT AN 'ASWANG?'

In 2014, the Filipino press reported that a werewolf-like creature had been attacking livestock on the island of Sibale. Could this be an Aswang, described in local folklore as a flesh-eating shape-shifter?

Manila: Bloodsucking creatures are devastating livestock herds in the island of Sibale.

Residents are at a loss over what vicious animal would leave only carcasses of its prey after feasting on them.

An article published recently by the Manila Standard Today said farmers are becoming increasingly fearful of the creature, which strikes when the moon is full, sucks the blood of its prey and tears off the limbs of livestock such as goats.

“It’s a continuing goat massacre happening at the onset of the full moon almost every year since 2012. So far, more than 200 goats had been massacred by this unknown killer,” Sibale Mayor Lemuel Cipriano was quoted as saying by the report.

Locals believe that the culprit was similar to the mythical werewolf, a creature that strikes during the evening and transforms into a four-legged creature.

The island that the supposed werewolf inhabits is as remote and detached from civilisation as any other minor island in the Philippines. To reach it by boat from Romblon, people would have to travel five hours in a motorised outrigger boat, it is closer to the main Oriental Mindoro island, where most residents get their supplies.

It not known whether the creature hunts alone or moves against its prey in packs, like wolves and wild dogs do.

In an attack last Wednesday, nine goats owned by the local village chief, Ulpiano Ebora of San Vicente, were killed. Before this, several of the livestock were killed in the same locale and the adjacent village of Poblacion. In all. 27 animals have been killed over the past few weeks.

So far, no one has seen the creature and there has been hardly any evidence — except for the carcasses.

Philippine folklore is rife with frightful creatures of the underworld. During the Spanish period, the colonial government in the island of Panay pervaded the myth of the “aswang”, a local version of the shape-shifting, flesh-eating banshee-like creature in European folklore. The story was allegedly spread to prevent Filipinos from rebelling against then colonial administration, since rebels usually held their clandestine meetings in the evening.

There are others who see similarities between the mystery animal that victimised the goats of Sibale and the so-called “chupacabra,” a four-legged creature similar to a dog with sharp canines, which can tear the flesh of its victims like a hungry wild animal and suck their blood. - Gulf News

THE ASWANG

Some mythical creatures have their origin in tradition and tales from the distant past. However, each culture is associated with a multitude of interesting and odd creatures, many of these beings are humanoids. One of these legendary humanoids is the Aswang.

The legend of the Aswang is well known throughout the Philippines, except in the Ilocos region. An Aswang is a regular townsperson by day and prefers an occupation related to meat, such as butchery. They are also said to have an ageless appearance and a quiet, shy, and elusive manner.

The creature is described as a combination of vampire and witch and is almost always female. One key feature of the Aswang is its bloodshot eyes. The Aswang is an eater of the dead and a cannibal. They are capable of transforming into either a huge black dog or a black boar. The creatures stalk and eat human beings at night. Many stories revolve around these creatures eating children and unborn fetuses. Their favorite body parts are the liver and heart, and they are known to be viscera suckers.

The Aswang is believed to have supernatural powers. Once it has overpowered a victim, it will take a bundle of sticks, talahib grass, and rice or banana stalks, and transform these into a replica of their victim. This replica is sent home while it takes the real person back with her. Upon reaching its home, the replica will become sick and die. The victim will then be killed and eaten.

Supposedly if a person looks at them in the eyes, the reflection would appear inverted. During their nocturnal activities, they walk with their feet facing backward. Garlic bulbs, holy water, and other objects are believed to repel Aswang. At night, they transform into the deadly beast. In the Middle Ages, the Aswang was the most feared among the mythical creatures in the Philippines. It is said that an Aswang can be revealed, with the use of a bottle of a special oil made from coconut and mixed with certain plant stems upon which special prayers were said. When an Aswang comes near or walks outside the house at night, the oil is supposed to boil and continue boiling until the Aswang leaves the area.

In the Southern part of the Philippines the Aswang are classified into five distinctive types:

1. The Blood Sucker (Vampire)
2. The Barangan (Vindictive Hexer...Voodoo and the like)
3. Mananangal (Self Segmenter) A creature who can fly through the night using only the upper torso with its entrails dangling below.
4. The Corpse Eater - This is the Aswang who will try and change out the real corpse with a fake corpse made from the trunk of a banana tree.
5. The False Beast - An Aswang who can change from a human into a wild pig, or dog or whatever shape suits it.

REPORTED ATTACK IN 2004

Tata Porras, 16, of Barangay Cabuling in Tantangan, claimed his 14-year-old brother Michael was attacked by an aswang, which he claimed was disguised as a big black dog with red, glowering eyes.

Porras' descriptions aptly fit the physical appearance of the supernatural being who has the ability to transform itself into different forms while devouring a prey.

He claimed that he and his younger brother were sleeping in a small makeshift hut near their ricefield on the evening of September 22, guarding their farm ducks, when the incident happened.

The boys' parents were sleeping in their house just a few meters away from the ricefield.

"Aswang talaga ang nakita ko," Tata said, adding that the big black dog about three feet-high was about to bite the neck of his younger brother when he saw it.

"Nang kakagatin na niya ang kapatid ko, kinuha ko kaagad ang nakatago naming single shot na baril at binaril ko ang aswang (When I saw the 'aswang' about to bite my younger brother, I grabbed our single shot rifle and I shoot the 'aswang')," Tata said.

He said the "aswang" fled and was lost in the dark.

Prior to the alleged attack, Tata said he heard a squeaking sound outside the makeshift hut.

"Papalayo sa tinutulugan naming dalawa yung ingay," the boy said.

Michael was hit in his right leg when Tata fired the shot at the aswang. He was immediately brought to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) for medical treatment.

Neighbors who rushed to the boys' location reported hearing Tata shouting, "aswang, aswang!" while pointing to a dark portion of the ricefields.

A local radio station carried the story on air, but some residents refused to believe the story, brushing this off a figment of the boy's imagination.

Others however believe it, citing personal accounts and stories they heard from their friends and relatives living in the allegedly aswang-infested localities in southern Philippines.

Based on the Filipino superstitious beliefs, the usual targets of the aswang are pregnant women and young children. It usually attacks on or before midnight.
