ALIEN EXPERIENCER: 'Do you find it hard to live with what you know?'

A Texas man recalls his experience with a bright light and unseen entities while camping on Mustang Island in Port Aransas. His second encounter was more frightening and intense.

"To prove I am a believer I will share something I have never shared since I'm too scared to. Summer of 1985, I and my family were camping at Mustang Island near Corpus Christi, Texas. It was 3 a.m. and I couldn't sleep. So I went for a walk on the beach. There on the jetty, I saw a pulsating light. Almost like on the edge of the gulf. At first, I  thought nothing of it. Yet I felt myself start to walk towards it. As I reached the halfway mark I heard two voices start to communicate telepathically. "Do not be afraid, you will not be harmed. Join us. Come with us." I turned around and went back.

The next day I walked out as far on the jetty looking for any traces. There was nothing that could have emanated a light that bright.  

A year later I am at home in bed, once again it's 3 a.m. Only this time, they attacked me. I heard loud inhuman voices shrieking. I tried to scream. They held me down, scratching and clawing at me. Terrorizing me. I could see the lights casting shadows through my pillow. I broke free in terror. I still have welts on my body from the attack. 

Now I have a question. Do you find it hard to live with what you know?" DL

LOFA! Legendary Ogre of the Chickasaw Nation

According to native legend, the Lofa was a Bigfoot-like creature that lived in Northwest Alabama (including areas of Mississippi and Tennessee), a region that was once dominated by the Chickasaw people. In Chickasaw folklore, the Lofa is a malevolent, ogre-like monster. His name literally means "flayer" or "skinner," a reference to his gruesome habit of flaying the skin from his victims. In some legends, he attempts to abduct Chickasaw women. He is sometimes described as a giant and other times as a large, hairy, smelly man, leading some people to associate him with the Bigfoot legend:

The Wildcat Clan

This clan differs from other clans principally in what its members eat. They seldom go out in the daytime but roam about at night in search of food. They do not, however, try to steal.

They are swift of foot and when an accident happens to them they depend on their swiftness to escape. They care very little about women, but when they want anything they generally get it. They think more of their feet than of any other parts of their bodies and their eyes are so keen that they can see anyone before he detects them.

When one of them wants a wife he gets his parents to obtain one. They do not select any kind of woman but are careful in choosing. The younger always get a woman first. These generally sleep in the daytime. If they do not have good luck at night their rest is disturbed but if they have good luck they sleep through most of the day.

One day a number of men belonging to this clan went hunting and camped a considerable distance from home. Afterward they scattered to see what they could find but remained within call of one another, having made an agreement that if anything happened to one of them he should shout for help. But one of them ventured farther than he was aware and got a long distance off. Presently he got tired and sat down to rest, but while he was there a lofa came up and said: “What are you doing here? You are intruding upon my land and had better get up and return to your own place.”

But the Indian believed himself to be strong enough for any situation, so he sat still without speaking.

Presently the lofa ordered him off again and added, “If you do not get up and go away I will tie you up and carry you to my place.”

“You may do so if you can,” the man replied, and upon this the lofa seized him.

At first it seemed as if the man were the stronger of the two and he was able to throw the lofa down, but the latter smelled so bad that it was too much for his antagonist, and the lofa overcame him, hung him up in a tree and went away.

The man hung there all night, and when he did not make his appearance at camp the other hunters began a search for him and, when they found him, cut the grapevine by which he was fastened so that he fell to the ground. They asked him what had treated him in this manner but he would not speak and they thought he might have seen a ghost or something of that sort.

Some time later, however, he came to himself and related what had happened. Afterwards, thought he was very fond of hunting and knew that he would be successful, he would not venture out unless someone were with him. - John R. Swanton

When the settlers started to move into the areas previously occupied by the Chickasaw tribes, the sightings and experiences with the Lofa were passed along. As well, there were first hand accounts of close encounters with the beast. The newspapers, did for the first time, print and record some of these encounters.

To the newcomers, everything that was not openly known or written about by "the leading scientific leaders of the time" and the well educated, was dismissed as pure nonsense. Anyone who came into a town with a story about seeing a wild hairy man along the road was most likely thought to be crazy. Everyone "knows" there is no such creature out there like that.

This is something that still continues today. This is why so many sightings and encounters with these creatures still to this day, go unreported, not discussed, not talked about, and the story is surely not taken to a newspaper editors that will add his or her own little comments about anyone coming in with a story like this. In most cases, if someone does tell the story, it is to someone they know and trust very well and that is as far as it goes.

Gorilla Family Hunt is in Vain

Sheriff W. P. Cotton dismissed a posse of "wild man" hunters today and reported that an all day search for a strange gorilla like family in a Choccolocca Valley swamp was in vain.

Cotton led a group of farmers and citizens into the swamp after rural residents reported seeing a man, woman and child whose bodies were covered with hair and at times walked on all fours. - UPI - 4/15/1936

Mera Roberts' Story

My siblings and I grew up hearing "Hairy Man" stories. My mother, Clara Odie Anderson Roberts, is almost 90 years old and still has a sharp mind. She lives in the Jackson Health Care Facility and can tell you these things herself.

When she was young, a black man named Dan Scruggs lived near Uncle Tom Purvis’ place on the other side of Friendship, a community which was between Coffeeville and the Witch Creek area. One day he left his house to go to a nearby spring, taking his gun with him. A short time later he arrived back at his home, running andout of breath. He was very frightened, and could only say, "Hairy Man, Hairy Man." As he had neared the spring he saw a "Hairy Man" there and he left in such haste that he left his gun there near the spring.

One day, mother’s oldest brother, Chamlers Anderson, and Elmore Bedwell, were returning to their home after having visited the Roberts family who lived in the area. About halfway between the Roberts place and the Ida Bedwell place, they saw a "Hairy Man" sitting on a log that was over a ravine. I suspect they lost no time getting to their respective homes. This also happened when mother was young. I’m wondering if other relatives or descendants of the people who actually saw the "Hairy Man" might also have heard the stories told and passed down in their families. My oldest sister, Inez, remembers Grandma Anderson (my Mother’s Mother) telling her something that happened when Grandma’s oldest child (Chalmers) was a baby. Grandma said she was walking to a relative’s house and carrying Uncle Chalmers and she walked up on a big hairy ape sitting on a log and holding its head with its hands. When Grandma walked up, it just got up and ambled off into the woods. Grandma said she figured it must have escaped from a circus somewhere and that it may have been sick.

Could this have been a "Hairy Man" or a Bigfoot? The baby (my uncle) who was being carried was born Dec. 30, 1907 so Grandma’s encounter with the "big hairy ape" was probably around 1908. All of these sightings occurred in the Friendship area. - The South Alabamian - Jackson, AL - 12/23/2004

Possible BIGFOOT Encounter at West Tennessee Farm

A group of young friends in rural Tennessee were out in the yard at night. They started hearing unrecognizable sounds coming from the cornfield. Then there was a scream and something burst through the corn.

I received the following account:

"This sighting happened about 15 years ago at my grandparent's house in the middle of the summer. I grew up and still live in a very rural part of West Tennessee on a farm surrounded by fields and woods. There are about 5 wildlife reserves within 15-20 minutes of my house if that says anything about how far in the boonies this sighting took place.

It was the middle of the summer and I had invited some friends over to spend the night, so about 8 of us saw this and we were all between the ages of 10 and 12. We had spent our whole day playing at the creek and climbing trees. That night, at about 10 or 11, we decided to go sit in the front yard and talk so we wouldn’t wake anyone in the house up by being loud. 

We had been outside for a while and noticed that my grandparent's dogs, who had been sitting with us, had disappeared from the front yard and we were no longer hearing any of the normal insect noise that occurs in the south during the summer. The field across the road from the house was planted with corn and we started to hear something moving through the corn. It started getting louder and closer and we heard what sounded like grunting or someone breathing heavily. It was a full moon so we could easily see everything that was in the yard and the field which was only about 20 yards from where we were sitting at the time. We heard what sounded like a scream as something came through the corn across from us at which point we all took off running for the house leaving everything in the front yard.

As we ran inside I looked over my shoulder and saw what I can only describe as a huge hairy man. His head was level with the top of the corn which at this point in the summer was about 7 foot tall. When we got inside we all looked at each other with disbelief asking each other what it was and agreed not to talk about it anymore. After this encounter, we would not go out at night anymore.

I grew up hunting and spending all of my free time outdoors. I know the animals and sounds that are native to this area and this wasn’t one of them. I still to this day feel like there is something there when I visit the house and try not to stay outside too long at night." KW

ALIEN ABDUCTION Reported by American Students in the Yucatan Peninsula

A pair of American archaeology students are on a dig outside of Chichen Itza in the Yucatan. Later at night, they both experience an alien abduction by 2 different types of beings.

"In 1980, during my seventh trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, I met two students at the Mayan ruins in Tulum. They were on an archaeological dig outside Chichen Itza, near some known lagoons - cenotes. These 2 students were at Tulum that day doing some research and were kind enough to invite me to come out and visit their dig site. This is their story:

We completed our research at the Tulum Mayan ruins and went to meet our group outside the Chicken Itza area. While driving that night, we had an approximate 3-hour drive to arrive at our hotel. We are both archaeological students from Boston College and the University of Texas. Ken was 21 years old and Jan was 20.

We stopped at a small cantina to pick up sodas for our drive. We noticed the sky was clear and twinkling with stars. On the way, out in the middle of nowhere, Jan saw a moving object in the sky, shining a very bright light. It seemed to be headed parallel to where we were heading. Ten minutes later, it was gone. We did not think it was strange. We thought maybe it was a military plane or something to that effect. We were alone, not too much traffic on the highway. We only passed a tour bus or two, probably headed back to Cancun. We rented a Volkswagen “Thing,” a fun car to drive, but kind of a rough ride.

After a while, the car began to lose power and ran rough. Just as we came around a sharp curb in the road, there it was sitting on the road, taking up both lanes; a metallic, smooth-looking disc. I started to lose consciousness and could feel Jan pulling on my right arm and screaming. But I could not move or say anything.

The next thing I knew, both of us were in a small hospital, being asked questions by the police. Apparently, we were found approximately 1 3/4 miles away from the car. I was found lying down in the dirt and Jan was found walking down the road.

We were both released from the hospital the next morning. My arms and Jan’s legs were covered in bruises. That day, both of us had slight bleeding in our noses and an upset stomach. We could not drink much water or keep food down. Ken called me at my hotel and wanted to come by and talk to me. We did meet and Ken and Jan told me bits and pieces of their account, as you can imagine. It was hard for both of them trying to recall what they thought may have happened.

They went back that afternoon, hooked up with their group, and worked the dig for several days. Before returning home, they said that each one of them had different details but were still confused. Ken said we both began having lucid dreams several weeks after returning home.

"It slowly came back to us. We were abducted by tall men with blonde hair and blue eyes in some type of jumpsuit-like uniform. Jan and I slowly tried to put together what happened. Sometimes, we had different thoughts. Jan said she saw me without any clothing on, leaning against a soft blue-lighted wall. I remember seeing Jan lying on a medical-type table surrounded by three of the tall men. Jan recalls also seeing 4 small Grey-type beings on the craft and said that their eyes were black and they had what appeared to be a second lens-type eye behind the other pupil."

Both said they received different confusing messages in their minds during their time on the craft. Ken said he was somewhat conscious and did see various equipment-medical instruments being used on Jan. What had me concerned was this entire event, having been with them earlier that day and finding out they experienced an incredible abduction.

I had 2 other conversations with them and both were seeking professional help. I lost contact with them about 3 years after this happened." LZ

CRAWLER HUMANOID Chases Witness Through the Back Alleys of Philadelphia

A Philadelphia resident used to take late-night walks in their neighborhood. That was until they encountered what can only be described as a crawler humanoid that chased the witness home.

I received the following account:

"I live near downtown Philadelphia. I always enjoyed night walks, even though it was not recommended in my neighborhood. But it was the best way for me to find my peace after a long hectic day at work. I miss those walks because I stopped taking them after I saw 'It.'

It alerted me to its presence while I was walking between two buildings. There was a quick 'snap,' like a branch was breaking. When I turned to look I saw its limbs. The long, somewhat humanoid arms, were stretching out from behind the side of a dumpster. I could see the extended fingers with the clawed ends. I wouldn't say that I was afraid, but I did suddenly feel out of place as if I had accidentally opened the door into somebody else's house.

I sheepishly said, 'Hello.' The arms jerked suddenly and there was another series of loud snaps from behind the dumpster. I realized that the snapping sounds were coming from the creature's limbs. That was when the fear crept in, but I was strangely frozen in place. As the claws returned from the shadows, they curled over the rim of the dumpster and slowly began tapping against the metal body. The creature pulled itself upright, its head peeking over the edge. It looked vaguely human-like and was shaped like a man's. The mouth hung open as if it was trying to take a breath. Then it slid back, ducking out of sight yet again.

After several seconds had passed, the humanoid leaped out from its hiding place. It hunkered on the ground. Its legs were as long as its arms and the entire body was hairless and gaunt. It looked like a corpse. It then made a sudden lunge toward me. I ran as quickly as I could while hearing the snarling and shrieks that were coming from behind me. I heard it running on the ground but then realized that it was running on the walls. It scurried along the sides of the building like a spider. My only hope was to reach my front door before it reached me.

As I approached my residence, I fumbled with my keys but was able to unlock the door and slide into the foyer. The creature crashed against the door and banged on the frame for a few seconds before falling silent. I quickly made my way to the back door and made sure it was locked. I walked back to the front foyer. I watched the front door for what must have been hours. I knew it was still there. I could hear the barely audible breathing as it waited for me to make the mistake of checking if it had left.

Eventually, the sun started to break through the darkness. I pressed my ear against the door but I heard nothing. I slowly pulled the door open. The coast was clear. The creature was gone.

That was the last time I took a walk in my neighborhood at night. I only walk in the daylight, as I keep a vigilant eye open for anything unusual. I have no idea what that humanoid was or what it wanted from me. But I wasn't going to take any chances on finding out." KM

Minneapolis Eyewitness Reports CREEPY KIDS Roaming in the Darkness

Marie in Minneapolis made two separate phone calls, first to Coast to Coast and then to Darkness Radio looking for answers regarding something that happened to her the night after Halloween (2014) while doing her paper route. The event clearly disturbed her and she couldn't explain it nor could any of the hosts or guests of the various radio shows.

“This happened the night after Halloween. I delivered newspapers at night and I was delivering newspapers that night and it was business as usual. I rounded this curve and I saw a group of kids in the middle of the road. There were about six of them and they were all wearing grey robes with hoods. They didn't have the hoods on, they were down their backs. I thought that was kind of strange because Halloween had ended about ten hours before that. One of them saw me and started walking very quickly towards my car saying something. She got very close to my car and I could see that she was about 15 years old and my first thought was...'Why was she out there?' That's pretty young to be out there at that time of night, it was about 4:30 in the morning. I didn't have time to talk to her so I drove around her but then there were the other five kids in the middle of the road and then they saw me and they fanned out to surround my car so I couldn't move and that scared me. I drove up on the lawn to get around them but they were coming pretty quickly at my car and I almost hit one of them and then I thought, I'm gonna call the police because this is quite odd. Then I thought, I better follow them so I could tell the police what they're doing. I saw them turn down this street and I turned to follow them and it took about ten seconds to get to this street and they were gone. They had disappeared and there's no way they could have gone to even the first house.”

Marie in Minneapolis called Darkness Radio to again tell her story, looking for answers, something she felt didn't happen when she called Coast to Coast.

“I'm wondering if you could help me with this. It happened last Halloween night. It's bothered me ever since. I tried calling in to Coast to Coast but nobody really helped me with it or told me what I experienced so I was kind of hoping with all the calls and guests you've had that maybe you could help me. Well, what happened to me was I delivered newspapers at night. I was on the street at about 4:30 in the morning and I saw a group of kids. Like I said, it was after Halloween, 4:30 the next morning on November 1st and these kids, there were about six of them and they were all dressed in grey robes with hoods and hoods, they weren't wearing them, the hoods were down their back. They saw my car and one of them came towards me aggressively. She came up to my car but I didn't stop for her. I looked at her and she was very pretty but very young. She looked like she was 14 or 15 years old and the first thing I thought was, why was someone that young out at this time of time. So I drove around her, I didn't stop than the other ones saw me and they all fanned out to surround my car to stop my car and I didn't want that to happen so I drove up on the guy's lawn, the house that was to the left of me. I drove up on his lawn to get away from them but I almost hit one of them, that's how much they were coming after me and it scared me. I didn't know why they wanted me to stop so I thought, I better call the police so I got my phone out and I looked in my rearview mirror and they were all huddled together like a football huddle and I thought, You know, these are kids and I almost hit one of them, you'd think they'd be jumping up and down and swearing and flipping me off but they weren't, they were all together in this huddle and then they went down this street and I thought I better follow them so I can tell the police what they are doing and I mean it was seconded since I turned around and went down the street and they were gone. Just that fast, they were gone. And there's no way they, all of them, could have gotten anywhere. It just kind of spooked me and I'm never afraid at night but I was for three days after that. They were dressed in robes which I thought was weird too because being that age they don't want to be dressed the same, you would think. So, I just thought it was an odd group of people to have out at that time of night and then to come after me the way they did and I didn't know what they wanted. It was 4:30 in the morning on November 1st right after Halloween.

I called Coast to Coast because David Weatherly was on there and I guess he's the expert on, what Black Eyed Children? I thought maybe that's what they were. It sounded like that's what it could have been but he didn't really say much. He just said that Halloween was the night that portals are open or something and whatever can get through. These kids literally disappeared. They went down this big street with big houses with big lawns and I was right behind them and there's no way they could have gotten anywhere. They couldn't even have made it to the end of the first house without me seeing them and they were gone and that's what freaked me out. It was so bizarre and it scared me. I was scared to be out for three nights.”

The LOUP GAROU of Lower Canada

I thought I'd pull the following information from the archives. In April 1882, the Atlantic Monthly Magazine presented its version of werewolf lore in Lower Canada.

THE LOUP-GAROU

The Atlantic Monthly, Vol. 49, No. 294 - 01 April 1882

The most formidable creature in Lower Canada is the Loup-Garou, who acquaintance we made at the Isle of Orleans. The Loup-Garou, or man-wolf, was known in ancient times both to theologians and to law-givers. A council which was called by the Emperor Sigismund decided that sorcerers often assumed the form of Loup-Garous,and strange tales are told by old French chroniclers of the deeds of these emissaries of Satan.

At a village in Auvergne, in 1588, a hunter was attacked by a monstrous Loup Garou; he cut off its paw, which a gentleman who had been watching the combat recognized by a ring as the hand of his wife. On entering the house he saw her sitting disconsolate by the fire, with one arm concealed under her robe. She confessed her guilt, and was publicly burnt. In Livonia, at the end of December, Satan, armed with a bar of red-hot iron, flew over the country and summoned the Loups-Garous to their annual convention, which lasted twelve days. When the gathering broke up, the delegates plunged into a river, and presto! they were no longer Loups-Garous, but men and women. Boquet says that one hundred and fifty Loup-Garous were seen at one time in the streets of Constantinople. Beauvoys de Chauvincort wrote a learned treatise upon the subject in 1599, De la Translation des Hormnes en Loups.

There are two species of Loup-Garou in Lower Canada: one that kills and eats children, and another that, like the Feux-Follets, seeks the destruction of souls. The former is never seen except by children, who evidence is not worthy of credence, inasmuch as the Loup-Garou appears to wicked children only; but the existence of the latter has been vouched for by thousands of good habitants.

A habitant, deep in the backwoods of the St. Maurice or Lac St. Jean, has said his prayers, and is preparing to turn in for the night, when he hears a shout outside, and, going to the door, is told by a belated teamster bound for the shanties that his neighbor at the “clearing,” ten miles away, is lying at the point of death, and that there is no priest within fifty miles. The habitant harnesses his horses, and starts without delay, taking with him the bottle of holy water he brought from his native parish at Easter, his beads, and “petit Albert,” a collection of prayers. The wind is moaning in the forest, and the trees throw gaunt shadows upon the snow. Suddenly he hears the sound of rushing feet, and, looking over his shoulder as he plies his horses with the whip, discovers to his horror that he is being pursued by a Loup-Garou. The fiend resembles a huge wolf, but its cry is human, and its eyes are like the lights of the Feux-Follets. The habitant mutters a prayer, and drives furiously. It is a hard race through the woods and over the frozen streams, but thanks to good St. Anne, the patronne of Lower Canada and the kind protector of backwoodsmen and sea-faring men, the habitant reached the house first, and, placing the open prayer-book on the table, defies the Loup Garou to cross the threshold. He is in time to sprinkle the dying man with holy water, receive his last words, and close his eyes. Then, fastening his beads upon the lintel, to preserve the widow and children from the Loup-Garou, he sets out to call the neighbors and fetch the priest, that the body may receive Christian burial.

The Beast of Gévaudan

The Beast of Gévaudan is a name given to man-eating wolf-like animals alleged to have terrorized the former province of Gévaudan, in the Margeride Mountains in south-central France from 1764 to 1767 over an area stretching 90 by 80 kilometres. The beasts were consistently described by eyewitnesses as having formidable teeth and immense tails. Their fur had a reddish tinge and was said to have emitted an unbearable odor.

They killed their victims by tearing at their throats with their teeth. The number of victims differs according to the source. De Beaufort (1987) estimated 210 attacks, resulting in 113 deaths and 49 injuries; 98 of the victims killed were partly eaten. An enormous amount of manpower and resources was used in the hunting of the animals, including the army, conscripted civilians, several nobles, and a number of royal huntsmen.

Many explanations, either mutant, prehistoric beast, etc., were put forward at the time and during the two centuries since but none has ever been generally accepted. The important fact is that sufficient evidence remains to prove La Bête existed and was not just a myth. Locals believed it was a werewolf, or, more specifically, a sorcerer who shape-shifted into a monstrous predator in order to feed on human flesh. It was supposed to be bulletproof as well, until the day that someone tried a silver bullet.

Descriptions of the Beast varied so much that most researchers believe there had to be at least two of the creatures if indeed the panic wasn't causing the populace to incorporate almost any large animal into these sightings. The color of the Beast's fur was especially variable. Sometimes it was red, red with a large gray patch, or red with faint stripes along the back. Other times, it had black and white patches spotted over its body, with no trace of red. Rarely, it had colors or patterns that didn't incorporate red, black, or white. If you add up all the differing descriptions and then create a composite description out of those characteristics that are mentioned with consistency by most witnesses, then the Beast would look something like this:

"The Beast is a quadruped about the size of a horse. It reminds witnesses of a bear, hyena, wolf, and panther simultaneously. It has a long wolf-like or pig-like snout, lined with large teeth. The ears are small and round, lying close to the head. The neck is long and strong. The tail resembles the long tail of a panther, but it is so thick and strong that the Beast uses it as a weapon, knocking men and animals down with it. Anyone struck by the tail reports that it hits with considerable force. The feet of the Beast are the hardest to describe. Some say that it has cloven hooves, or that each digit is tipped with a hoof. Others say that the claws are so heavy, thick, and formidable that they merely resemble hooves."

The first known attack that provided a description of one of the creatures took place on June 1, 1764. A woman from Langogne saw a large, lupine animal emerge from the trees and charge directly toward her, but it was driven away by the farm's bulls.

On June 30th, the first official victim of the beast was Jeanne Boulet, 14, killed near the village of Les Hubacs, not far from Langogne. The beast seemed to target people over farm animals; many times it would attack someone while cattle were in the same field.

On January 12, 1765, Jacques Portefaix and seven friends, including two girls, were attacked by the Beast; they drove it away by staying grouped together. Their fight caught the attention of King Louis XV, who awarded 300 livres to Portefaix, and another 350 livres to be shared among the others. He also directed that Portefaix be educated at the state's expense. The King had taken a personal interest in the attacks, and sent professional wolf-hunters, Jean Charles Marc Antoine Vaumesle d'Enneval and his son Jean-François, to kill the beast. They arrived in Clermont-Ferrand on February 17, 1765, bringing with them eight bloodhounds that had been trained in wolf hunting. They spent several months hunting wolves, believing them to be the beast. However the attacks continued, and by June 1765 they were replaced by François Antoine, the king's harquebus bearer and Lieutenant of the Hunt. He arrived in Le Malzieu on June 22nd.

On September 21, 1765, Antoine killed a large grey wolf measuring 80 centimetres (31 in) high, 1.7 metres (5.6 ft) long, and weighing 60 kilograms (130 lb). The wolf was called Le Loup de Chazes, after the nearby Abbaye des Chazes. It was agreed locally that this was quite large for a wolf. Antoine officially stated: "We declare by the present report signed from our hand, we never saw a big wolf that could be compared to this one. Which is why we estimate this could be the fearsome beast that caused so much damage."

The animal was further identified as the culprit by attack survivors, who recognized the scars on the creature's body, inflicted by victims defending themselves. The wolf was stuffed and sent to Versailles where Antoine was received as a hero, receiving a large sum of money as well as titles and awards.

However, on December 2, 1765, another beast emerged in la Besseyre Saint Mary, severely injuring two children. Dozens more deaths are reported to have followed.

The killing of the creature that eventually marked the end of the attacks is credited to a local hunter, Jean Chastel, at the Sogne d'Auvers on June 19th 1767. Later novelists introduced the idea that Chastel shot it with a blessed silver bullet of his own manufacture. Upon being opened, the animal's stomach was shown to contain human remains.

EXTREMELY TALL WINGED HUMANOID Reported Near Codorus Furnace, Pennsylvania

A local woman reports an encounter that she and her mother had with an extremely tall winged humanoid near Codorus Furnace in York County, PA. One of several similar sightings in the general area.

I received the following account in May 2017:

Hi Lon,

My name is Sky, and I'm not even sure where to begin, but after stumbling onto your articles about the Conewago Phantom, I had to get in contact with you. The experience that my mom and I had was terrifying and I'm getting goosebumps just thinking of the possibility that what we saw was actually real. We've had a lot of experiences with the paranomal, but this one takes the cake.

I've since moved away from York, but we're planning to move back to Pennsylvania, which led me to research hauntings and cryptid sightings in the area. When I Googled Conewago Phantom, the pictures alone almost made my stomach drop, but when I read your descriptions - down to the almost humanoid crying. I'm still kind of in shock.

The Conewago Phantom Screams

It's hard to pinpoint an exact date, but I believe it was summertime in 2010. There were two separate instances that neither of us had thought were tied together. We were living in Mt. Wolf at the time, right by the Codorus Furnace (which, there's a whole other story about the woman in white for another time?). Behind our house were woods and it wasn't uncommon for us to hear foxes or owls or any other animal making noise out there. But there was one night that my mom had called me outside to listen to, what she described as, a sad, lonely wailing? We researched endlessly about what could have possibly made that sound, but we always fell short. Just as you described it, it would fade in and out, and eventually lingered away.

I hadn't thought much on it considering that the actual sighting was the forefront of my memories there, but reading that description, it makes so much sense.

It was a little bit after this, when my mom and I were coming home from running errands, when we slowed to a stop right around here (below). It was nighttime and we always liked to watch for deer on the horizon of the fields.


I was in the passenger seat, trying to see out my mom's window, and that's when I saw this black form by the back window. I don't even remember what I said or did to get her to look back, but she did.

She then turned forward, slammed on the gas, and wouldn't even talk to me about it until we got home and in the house. She said that when she turned to look at it, it "stood up" and wing-like appendages spanned out from it's back. We both agreed it was massive. I'd say 9-10 ft. I don't recall seeing any red eyes, but it all happened so fast.

Personally, I'm more apt to be spooked out by the paranormal, whereas my mom is more curious. But whatever this thing was was enough to terrify her. She wanted to go back out to investigate, but I was too afraid to go and she didn't want to go alone.

The next day when we returned in the daylight to see if maybe there was a tree or mailbox or anything that could've been what we saw, but there wasn't.

Up until now, I jokingly referred to it as my 'Mothman experience', despite the uneasy undertones. I had no idea this creature even existed. I've told the story to so many, but I think it's hard for them to really grasp what actually happened. To them, I'm sure it just sounds like a spooky ghost story. I've been dying to find an actual explanation to this and I think I finally did.

My grandmother had a similar experience, but she was living in Edgewood, Maryland at the time. She described it exactly the same though - a massive, black, winged figure lingering near her car. She told us that she thought it was a fallen angel.

It's all been very surreal. I didn't think I would ever get answers to what we saw, and it's haunted me to this day. I'm still unsure whether or not this discovery has eased my mind or frightened me even more, but I'd love to talk with you some time.

NOTE: Was this a Mothman or something similar to the Conewago Phantom? There was a similar occurrence near Littlestown, PA in September 2015. Timothy Renner told me that he had an unexplained encounter in Codorus Furnace. The map below marks the locations of reports I have received pertaining to flying humanoids (including my residence in Hanover, PA) in this area. There have also been a few other general reports, including an encounter near Lancaster and possible sightings along the Conewago Creek. I have not marked those reports on the map. HIDEOUS 'GRINNING MAN' Shocks Eyewitness at Local Hospital

The eyewitness was at a Nashville, Tennessee hospital for a CAT scan. After waiting for an unreasonably long time, a bizarre hideous man with a wide grin came into the waiting room.

I received the following account:

"In early April of 2017, I required a CAT scan at a local hospital here in Nashville, Tennessee. I'm sitting in the waiting area with a couple of other people. Each person was called and taken in by a woman. I was the last one left, waiting for an unreasonably long time, so I kept looking for anyone to call me for my scan. After a while, I became restless, so I got up and looked in the CAT scan hallway, but nobody seemed to be there. I walked over to another area with a reception desk, but no one was there either. I thought they must all be on a lunch break and I was not happy. So I went back to my seat.

A few minutes later, The CAT scan hallway door opens and I'm expecting to see that same woman asking me to come in, but this time a man came out. The only words that I can write to describe him are that he was bizarre and downright hideous looking. Exceptionally tall and thin. He had on a strange-looking suit and tie. His eyes were just slits, his skin was scarred and he was completely bald. My initial thought was, 'There is no way that this guy works here.' He looked so horrid. He would simply scare children and half the people who needed scans. He also had the most insidious wide grin. I really wasn't scared, but completely perplexed why this guy would be allowed to work in this environment.

He called out my first name and took great pains in pronouncing it. I followed him in and sat on the scan table. He went around the corner but kept looking at me through the window. Then he was gone. I waited for several more minutes until two other men came in to do my scan. I don't know why, but I didn't ask about the weird-looking man. In fact, I actually forgot about him.

That was until I was at a friend's home a few weeks later and her sister dropped in for a visit. She mentioned that she worked at the same hospital in the Radiology Department. So I asked her who the bizarre man that works there was. She gave me a bewildered look and told me that she had no idea what I was talking about. She asked me to detail his appearance to her. She again confirmed that no one with that description worked there and became somewhat hostile at my insistence on what I saw.

A week later, I went to my doctor for the results. His words were, 'I'm sorry, this is quite unusual. Your CAT scan is missing. The scan and report vanished and couldn't be found.' Now I wonder if the weird grinning man was responsible." NL

I Looked Into the Abyss...and it Stared Back

An Arkansas man had a bizarre encounter with an unknown man at a local gas station. Leading up to this encounter, the entire atmosphere had changed, causing the witness to be on guard.

I received the following account:

Last summer I had something happen to me that has left me feeling uneasy since. I live in a small town in central Arkansas. One evening after work, I had to stop at a local convenience store to get some gas for my car. A man and his son stood at the pump opposite me, and a young woman was standing by her car behind him. When the gas nozzle clicked full, I placed it back onto the pump and went inside the store to pay. When I came out, everything seemed different. There was nobody by the pumps. I had paid for my gas and walked back out, in just a minute or so. But there was nobody anywhere. It was so bizarre like I had stepped into another world. I suddenly felt scared but didn't understand why.

Then a man walked out of the wooded lot to my right. He was standing by my car at the same time I was heading towards it. When I walked by him, I noticed an awful stench coming from the man. He looked like a normal guy, not wearing dirty or old clothes. He looked like he was in his 30s or so. But when I again looked at him, I felt scared. Like something bad was going to happen. I opened my car door and looked back at him. He was staring at me. The man came closer to me, kind of shuffling his feet. "I need a ride," the man told me. The way he said it was startling like a physical force hit me right between the eyes. He then said, "Give me a ride." That is when I noticed that his eyes had changed to solid black. No whites, no nothing. It was like I was looking into the abyss. The stench was also starting to affect me. "Where do you want to go?" The man replied, "Just give me a ride, and don't ask questions." I said, "No, I can't. I've got to get home." He took a few steps toward me. I immediately got into the car and closed the door. As I started the car, the man put his face up to my car door window. I felt compelled to look at him. I started to feel sick to my stomach. I put the car in gear and got the heck out of there!

This has been troubling me. I’ve been having terrible dreams about this man almost every night since it happened. I'm almost afraid to go to sleep some nights. This is a small town, everyone knows everyone else. But nobody has seen this black-eyed man. I just don't understand what happened that night." HJ

NOTE: The witness and I exchanged emails. He was sincerely frightened, and wrote to me "I feel like the man is going to reach through my dreams and kill me." He is sought psychological care but states that the treatment did not helped alleviate the dreams. Lon
