HUMANOID PHOTO Captured by Wisconsin Police Officer at Home

An Eau Claire, Wisconsin police officer was at home early in the morning getting ready to leave for work. He saw movement at the screen door and captured a photograph of an unknown entity.

I received the following account and photograph:

"I lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The date was June 1, 2013. I used to wake up at 3:30 AM to take a bath and then go on the enclosed porch where I could watch the news and have coffee before I left for work on the day shift.

While I was sitting on the couch, watching TV, and drinking my coffee, the TV glitched and a slight wind picked up. It was kind of a balmy morning so I had the main door open with the screen door closed and the bottom of the screen door to ventilate the porch. Something drew my attention to the door and when I looked at the glass portion of the window I saw some type of entity. It looked like I had big eyes and a hand. I quickly took a photograph and it disappeared in about a minute.

After that incident, I was always nervous to sit on the porch. One morning it was raining out and I had the door open. I looked up and somebody's dog came and peeked his head in the door. Scared the heck out of me. I was a military policeman in the United States Army. I have been a police officer for almost 15 years. So I was hesitant reporting this, but maybe you can shed some light on it." M

NOTE: The eyewitness forwarded a photograph with the report. He had mentioned that he had originally contacted MUFON but never heard back from them. We briefly discussed the incident and the photograph. I could sense that he was very reluctant to talk about the incident, even though he was no longer employed as a police officer and was retired. BIGFOOT VIDEO From Shenandoah National Park, VA - Attached Encounter Report

The only commentary from the video is as follows:

"I'm a college student from Pittsburgh, PA and I was filming in the woods at the Shenandoah National Park when I saw what I assumed to be a Sasquatch."

Any attempt at capturing a screenshot would be futile because of the trees and brush. The movement in the video is compelling. The video was released in April 2015, but further information was not available.

Here is a Bigfoot incident report from Shenandoah National Park that was forwarded to me in June 2019:

"My story is scary, and I have been reluctant to mention it over the years. A few friends and family have been told, though I doubt that any of them believe me. The girlfriend who was with me at the time was deeply affected by the encounter. So much so that she has never really been the same since.

In the summer of 2016, my then-girlfriend and I were camping in the Lewis Mountain Campground, which is near Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. We had been there several times before and we always enjoyed our time there. I set up a large tent and separate canopy. There were no other campers within 100 yards, but we could hear others in our proximity. We spent most of the daytime hiking throughout the area.

The 2nd night (a Saturday, early Sunday morning) we were fast asleep. We had been out and about all day and were very tired. I believe it was approximately 1 AM when we were both awoken by a crashing sound outside the tent. I looked out the flap but couldn't see anything. So I got up with the lantern and walked to the canopy. I noticed that the camp stove had tipped over. I assumed it was the wind or that one of the legs gave way. I shrugged it off and went back to the tent.

I hadn't gone back to sleep when I heard a strange chattering sound. It reminded me of the sound a monkey makes when agitated. Once again I looked out the tent and this time I noticed a tall shadow standing by the canopy. I woke my girlfriend and asked her to look. She was frightened, but eventually took a look. By this time, the shadow was moving slowly around the camp and making low deep grunts. The first thing I thought was that a black bear was looking for a meal, but I then realized that this shadow was extremely tall and walking on 2 legs.

I grabbed a flashlight and directed it towards the shadow. When I did, this shadow quickly materialized into a huge hairy beast that lunged towards us. We both bolted back into the tent and cowered against the far side. The grunts continued as this beast walked around the tent. I tried to call for help on my phone but the signal cut out each time it connected.

We were horrified by the ordeal, which continued for about 10 minutes. We were afraid to scream because we feared it would attack us. Eventually, the beast left the camp, but we stayed awake the rest of the night. We packed at daylight and quickly left. I later contacted the park authorities, but they dismissed my story.

I'm sure that this beast was what people call a Bigfoot. My girlfriend and I soon broke off our relationship, but she has had emotional issues since that encounter. I have bad dreams at times and have never camped since. Thanks for reading." JK

NOTE: I called JK and we talked about the incident. He did say that it was a bit windy that night, but he does believe the camp stove was toppled by the Bigfoot. He also stated that the Bigfoot bared its teeth when it lunged toward the tent and that it batted at the front of the tent a few times. Lon

ALIEN-LIKE 'WORM' HUMANOID PHOTO Captured at Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota

On October 19, 2023, Facebook User MisterMelody BW (who resides in Manderson, South Dakota) posted an image taken by his niece at sunset, while out stargazing. The photograph was taken on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

MisterMelody BW wrote:

“Our WKDS middle school went to Gooseneck Road this evening to learn some star knowledge. My niece took this picture at sunset. They didn’t notice this until they looked at the picture.”

The image appears to show a spindly, large-headed figure walking in a field. No surprise, it garnered much chatter amongst his Facebook friends, many noting how creepy and scary it was. Some thought that it might have a natural explanation.

“What is it though looks like a bird with long ass legs,” noted user Dan Cliff. Others thought it appeared to be extraterrestrial.

Regina Lone Hill wrote, “Scary! Looks like an alien!”

“Skinwalker,” wrote Gabe Medicine Eagle III.

Derrick Desera noted, “Open your eyes now people. Just think all the creatures are coming out.”

Raven Waln pointed out how much the figure resembled one of the alien characters from the popular Hollywood film Men In Black. “So it looks like those worms off Men In Black.”

According to Wikipedia, the Worms or Annelids featured in Men In Black were an alien species who loved coffee, were very energetic, and were prone to making uncomfortable comments.

It is unclear what exactly the figure is. Possibly just a man (though the witness claims that they did not see the person), a trick of lighting, or something supernatural. Who knows?

"Back in the day when I was on patrol, I saw this in the same area BiIA 14 Gooseneck Road, Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota. They took kids on a road trip and they saw this. My proof right here!" BR
The Pine Ridge Reservation is the home of the Oglala Lakota Indian Nation. Over the years, there have been several unexplained sightings and encounters reported there.
In late 2016, an investigation/shamanic group on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (Oglala Lakota - South Dakota) was called in to investigate and bless a home. The incidents began when two sisters observed a black-eyed boy outside the home. Not long later, a group of ashen-white-skinned children with black eyes were seen congregating around the property, in an attempt to interact with the other children living there. On the first two occasions, there were only two of them and they asked to be let inside the house to get food. The third time, a third BEK showed up, and this time they asked for blood. They were never granted access to the house. The children described their voice as “not normal,” “robotic and monotone.” Pets also went missing around this time around the property. The parents of the children also recalled seeing the children. They also claimed to have noticed strange events around their home, including poltergeist activity and the sighting of, on at least two occasions, strange entities that they later thought to be alien.

A few days before Christmas 2014, Santana Janis, a 12-year-old Lakota Indian, decided that she did not want to live anymore.
A bright, outgoing girl with a shy smile and passion for horseback riding, Santana’s moods had turned dark. She lived in a derelict two-bedroom trailer with a grandfather, Earl Tall, and as many as a dozen siblings and cousins. Her mother, an alcoholic, was an intermittent presence in her life. Their town, Manderson, was torn by drinking, fighting, and violence.
Mr. Tall overheard his granddaughter’s talk of suicide and called her other grandfather, Keith Janis, who immediately drove 40 miles to see her. “I sat down with her and said, ‘Please, promise Grandpa you’ll never do that,’ ” Mr. Janis recalled last week. “She gave me that big, beautiful smile of hers and said, ‘O.K., Grandpa, O.K.’ ”
Six weeks later, Santana hanged herself in a small, unheated building next to the trailer.
Since December, the Pine Ridge reservation, a vast, windswept land of stunning grasslands and dusty plateaus, has been the scene of an unfolding crisis: nine people between the ages of 12 and 24 have committed suicide here.
Several officials with knowledge of the cases said that at least one of the youths who committed suicide was influenced by Slender Man, a tall, faceless creature who appears on storytelling websites, often as a figure who stalks and kills victims. Two girls in a Milwaukee suburb last summer said the character had inspired them in the attempted murder of a classmate.

“They call him the Tall Man spirit,” said Chris Carey, a minister who works with youths, some of them suicidal, on the reservation. “He’s appearing to these kids and telling them to kill themselves.” Lon

Possible SKUNK APE Encounter/Attack Near Myakka State Park, Florida

This account was presented to me in 2011 describing a possible Skunk Ape encounter/attack in the Myakka State Forest / Sarasota, Florida area. I'm seeking further information.

I received the following account:

"Hello - I live in Florida and although I've traveled a bit I always felt this is home. My family is originally from NYC but we've lived here for quite several years. I was young and was living with somebody in a trailer out in a horse pasture. There was a campground (Myakka State Park near Sarasota) just on the other side of the pasture, and we had made friends with the people who ran it. It was late summer and a bunch of the campers got together because they would be leaving soon to go back home, so a bonfire was being held that evening. There was a trail that led into the campground from where the trailer was, and everyone had gathered at our trailer for a farewell BBQ, then moved down to the campground after for the bonfire.

After I had cleaned up the BBQ mess it was getting dark, so I was pretty much the last one to arrive. The fire was started and we all stood around talking - it was about 9:30 pm. I was standing beside my friend on the outside edge of the fire when I happened to look across at the tree line. There is a fence there with low-lying palm scrub, it divides the other half of the pasture from the campground and back trails. As I looked in that direction I saw two big red eyes staring back at me. The outline of this thing was pretty big by the glow of the firelight. The palm scrub is about 4 feet tall, higher in some spots. Not taking my eyes off this thing I quietly whispered to my friend to look in that direction and don't scream. She did and she whispered to her husband. He said softly to the group not to make any sudden moves. We were talking softly and alerting everyone in the group about the red eyes, and everyone looked and saw what we were seeing.

There were eight of us all totaled, my girlfriend's husband returned with a flashlight and rifle in hand. He handed the flashlight to my friend and told her to shine it at whatever was in the scrub. When she did this thing stood up and made a growling sound. My friend's husband then shot at it and it screamed like nothing I'd ever heard before. It took off into the brush, and everybody (except me) in the group ran to get flashlights and whatever to arm themselves with. My friend and I were told to stay by the fire. About that time we heard the horses screaming in the pasture and they hurried to the field. After a while they all returned, they could not find anything and would resume the search at daylight.

The next day blood was found at the fence area and a horse was dead, its neck was broken and its body was badly ripped apart. Searches were continued for a couple of days and no one spoke about what happened. After several things happened where I was staying we left. This was not the only time I have encountered a large red-eyed being, I believe this was in fact a Skunk Ape/Bigfoot, that after being shot at purposely killed that horse.

I have on another occasion encountered one again, at night which chased me through the woods while walking home from my friend's house. I had not known at the time that a body was found mutilated in that area and that the arms of that poor soul were torn from their body. I was lucky." M

NOTE: Is anybody familiar with a mutilated human believed to have been attacked/killed by a skunk ape in the Myakka State Park area? The witness claims to have had at least another experience. I received this account almost a decade ago, and would still like further information if it is available. Lon

There is a distinct group of human-like entities that are part of ufology lore and, for the most part, associated with people who experience UFO and otherworldly close encounters. These are the ‘Men in Black’ or MIB. These entities usually show up, unannounced, at an experiencer’s home, seeking information about an incident.
The presence of these MIB became widely known during reported UFO activity (and the Mothman encounters) in the Point Pleasant, West Virginia area in the late 1960s. The journalist and ufologist John A. Keel began writing about the MIB after they made themselves known to the residents. The descriptions of these MIB were somewhat consistent; pale or olive-colored skin, monotone voice, no emotion or expression, dressed in a black suit and fedora, and driving a large black sedan. There were usually two MIB traveling together.
However, the most disconcerting aspect of their presence occurred after they conducted a brief interview. They would warn the witness, in no uncertain terms, not to discuss or report what they had observed. The message was clear. Keep your mouth shut.
Most experiencers and investigators don’t know what to make of the MIB. Are they quasi-government agents? How do they know who to contact? In most instances, they appear not long after an encounter and before a report is ever made. They truly are an enigma. But I believe that there is another explanation for their presence. Namely, that the MIB are an alien 'clean-up' crew who are used to cover up problematic sightings and encounters.
So, what do you think the Men in Black are? Just maintain an open mind, and formulate your theories to this phenomenon. I will present the reports in detail and attempt to answer your questions from the chat room.

BLACK-EYED KIDS Shocked Gas Station Attendant in Northeast Louisiana

A person e-mailed Dave Schrader of Darkness Radio about something bizarre they saw several years ago while working at an out-of-the-way gas station in rural Louisiana.

“It was about 3 years ago, in November 2012, when I was working at a small gas station in Northeast Louisiana. We were the only small shop and 24-hour service station near Bastrop, just off the highway. I worked the night-shift. I loved it. The sharing of stories with the travelling customers, that is when the rare customer showed up.

It must have been around 2 AM. I was cleaning the floors and locking the beer coolers when suddenly the lights went out. I pulled out my cell and used it as a guiding light until I made it back to our counter where I kicked on the gas generator. It lit the parking lot, the bath and the hall leading to the register. When I looked outside, I could just make out the movement of the trees across the street, but, otherwise, it was pitch black. I turned on the radio and started listening to a local station with its night owl DJ, commenting on the heavy winds and cracking jokes between songs.

Suddenly, I saw some figures in the dark. I could just make them out. They seemed to be a group of kids on bikes. There were three of them. Two of them dropped their bikes and made their way to the door where they just stood there staring at me. I just stared back for a moment, waiting for them to come in. They never did. I moved around the counter and opened the door. 'What's up guys? Out kinda late aren't you?' I asked them, expecting them to come in. 'Can we use your phone?' one asked, their heads tilted kinda low. I felt a little worried as I pulled my cell from my pocket and offered it to her. 'Sure.' She looked at me and then I saw her eyes. They were solid black, almost like ink-filled orbs! 'No, I need the real one!' she said, her face twisted into an angry snarl. I pulled the door closed and flipped the locks. 'No! No ma'am, you go home and get your mom's phone.' They stared at me through the door for a minute longer before turning away and biking off.

The next day I had my boss check the cameras to get the pictures of the creepy kids but the cameras had been off the whole time. Now the cameras run off the generator instead of the hall lights. I never saw the kids again.”

6-FOOT-TALL 'INSECTOID' Reported by Rural New Mexico Mail Carrier

A New Mexico mail carrier is stranded in the desert after blowing a tire. Unable to get cell service, he hikes to an elevated area. On his way, he encounters something best suited for a 1950s horror film!

I received the following account:

"I'm a mail carrier in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Folks here are spread out over long distances and they still need to get their mail so every day I take a long drive out through the desert to deliver mail to the residents.

In February 2023 I was out by the Valles Caldera National Preserve and I blew a tire. It was late afternoon it was going to be dark soon. The desert gets really cold at night year-round. Even worse, cell phone service is spotty around here. My reception was nil. My only options were to wait for a car to pass and hope they were willing to help. I could also hike up the hill and try to get a signal. Eventually, after I didn't report back, the post office would send somebody out to find me along the highway, but that could literally take hours and I didn't want to spend the night out here alone. I chose to hike. I could probably make it up and back just before dark. I just hoped that I would get a signal once up top.

I was about halfway up the hill when I decided to take a short rest and a water break. I was sitting on a rock and taking a few sips from the bottle when I heard some odd sounds. It was like loud chattering. It reminded me of cicadas that I remembered when living in the eastern US. It seemed like it was coming from behind a rocky outcropping directly in the path. I didn't see any other route so I decided to just move slowly and see what it was.

As I began to walk I stepped on a loose rock and lost my footing. I slid down a few feet before catching myself. The chattering stopped and I noticed something move out from behind a boulder. I saw a six-foot-tall thin 'insectoid' with the head of a grasshopper! It had two large antennas on its head and a pair of large pincers extending from its thorax. There was another smaller pair of pincers beneath that. It moved quickly left and then right and then left again stopping 20 feet away. It was horrible! I didn't know if running and standing my ground was the best option, but after I took another look at its pincers I decided on the former. I slowly backed away mimicking its movements. It stood still as it watched me.

Then my cell phone began to ring loudly. The creature's antenna snapped to attention and it quickly ran down the hillside. I instantly ran in the opposite direction, stumbling and falling as I moved. I eventually reached the bottom of the hill near the roadside, not far from my mail truck. I hopped into the truck and stayed put, hoping that the creature would stay away from me. I did catch a glimpse of the creature as it moved around the hill. I stayed put in the truck for several hours not daring to leave its safety. After what seemed like forever, a car came along and gave me a lift back into town.

What the hell did I see? I have heard a lot of stories of strange creatures in the New Mexico desert but this was almost impossible to imagine. Of course, I haven't mentioned this to anyone other than my girlfriend." H

BAT-WINGED HUMANOID Encounter in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania

Two brothers are driving in a rural area of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania when they hear flapping sounds and then encounter a bat-winged humanoid.

I received the following account:

"Lon:
My brother and I had an encounter while driving that I will never forget. Not a week goes by that I do not think about the encounter, what it was, or the significance. I have subsequently searched for local or regional reports of similar experiences or sightings matching our confrontation and came across your website.
At the time of the event I lived with my brother, and we liked to go food shopping at night to avoid the crowds. It was a cloudless and brightly moonlit fall night in October 2011 and we liked to drive around with the windows and sunroof open with the heat blasting while breathing in the crisp cool Pennsylvania fall air. We had a vehicle full of groceries while taking a long way home, I had turned off Route 329 in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County onto Cobbler Road, a road I do not recall ever driving down before. I had heard the sound of wings flapping through the sunroof and above the car and immediately figured it was an owl, egret, or blue heron but instead, I saw something much larger. As it flew parallel to the car I then looked out and up the front windshield and looked it in its dead black eyes. It was a man, with dangling human legs, torso, and arms and a huge bat-style wingspan the width of the roadway. I can only describe the appearance as grey-like and a dead lifeless face with no expression. It didn’t look real. The hair on my back and arms were standing on end and I kept thinking to myself that this is something I am not supposed to see and this can’t be real. As we continued along the road our interaction with the being was only a few seconds before it veered to the left and ascended the hill. As we continued along Cobbler Road until we came to the intersection of Cobbler and Bellview and I stopped the car and watched it continue to flap its wings as it continued on its path. I remember repeating to my brother, “What is that, what is that?” repeatedly as the wing flapping looked unnatural and almost robotic. My brother said, “Follow it” but I refused as every instinct I had told me to flee and this was something I was not supposed to see. I briskly made a right on Bellview and headed home. The whole interaction lasted 30 seconds tops. At the time I had a poor quality Blackberry camera and didn’t even think to try and take a photo or video. The moment was terrifying, and my flight response overcame any other sense.
After researching the area I found that the building we had just passed as our interaction began was an old abandoned slaughterhouse. I do not know if that had any significance nor was I unaware it even existed. I have a few links to that particular facility.
I have a master’s degree in engineering so naturally I search for a prosaic answer based on logic and reason hence why my brain initially went to a large bird like an owl, egret, or blue heron but it wasn’t. We know what we saw and it was a winged man, just a few feet away." B

My CREEPY & UNEXPLAINED Childhood in La Crosse, Wisconsin

A La Crosse, Wisconsin woman writes to me and describes several unexplained and creepy incidents that she and her family experienced during her childhood.

"These incidents took place during my childhood years up until the day I graduated from high school in La Crosse, Wisconsin. We lived in an old three-story brownstone apartment building with a basement apartment. The whole building was owned by the family. Initially, my grandmother's sister lived in the basement with her family and her two brothers occupied the second floor. My family was on the first main floor and my grandmother was on the 3rd floor. She believed in the superstition that if you moved down a level if you lived in an apartment you would soon die. She continued to climb the three flights of stairs even though she was very arthritic.

As the years passed by her sister and her immediate family eventually moved out and the two brothers on the middle floor passed away. The basement level was now empty and my mother, father, sister, brother, and I continued to live on the first floor. The second floor was empty and my grandmother still resided alone on the third floor. There was never a thought of renting the vacant rooms.

On several nights, while we were asleep, out of nowhere the front door would slam waking everyone up. After a few seconds, there would be footsteps moving up the metal stairs followed by footsteps, shuffling and creaking above us on the second floor. My father would jump up and rush to see who broke into the house. No one was ever there of course and things would be quiet again for a few weeks and then it would happen all over again.

The apartment was usually cold and drafty so we would all stand next to a wood stove in the pantry because it was our heat source. On several occasions, we would see a faint apparition of someone walking towards the stove. Once in a while we would think someone had come home and would say "hello" only to be greeted by nothing.

When I turned 10 years old my mother was sleeping on the third level to help care for my grandmother. My mother recalled one incident when she woke and saw me standing beside her bed. She asked what I wanted, I turned, walked away, and disappeared. There was another incident where she rushed out of the bathroom on the 1st floor and was frantic because she heard her mom scream for her. My sister and I were shocked because we didn't hear anything.

On another occasion, my grandmother's aunt had been sick and was in the hospital. We were driving home and my mother was resting her head against the window when suddenly she rose up and shouted "Oh my god, Aunt Jane just died. I just saw her face." My father looked at the clock and it was about 7:00 pm. When we got home the charge nurse was calling to let us know that she had passed away at the exact time.

The most memorable incident happened when my brother and I were talking about the weird stuff that had occurred in the house over the years. I said, "Yeah, like the old guy who used to watch us sleep". I was sort of half-joking since I wasn't sure if he had ever known since it was never brought up between us. He turns and answers "You mean the guy that stood behind the dresser in the living room, who leaned over with his hands behind his back?" As he was talking he, duplicated the way the apparition moved exactly. That really freaked me out!" N

Kentucky's POPE LICK 'GOATMAN' Legend

I've received several questions from a reader about the 'Goatman' phenomenon, in particular, the Pope Link Monster. I pulled up accounts from the archive and updated it a bit.

The Pope Lick Monster is/was, according to legend, a half-man, half-goat creature that lives under the Norfolk Southern Railroad trestle across Pope Lick Creek and South Pope Lick Rd. near Fisherville in eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky. The stories have been used as a 'dare' that required an unfortunate sap to climb onto the trestle. These individuals were most likely under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Numerous urban legends exist about the creature’s origins and the methods it employs to claim its victims. According to some accounts, the creature uses either hypnosis or voice mimicry to lure trespassers onto the trestle to meet their death before an oncoming train. Other stories claim the monster jumps down from the trestle onto the roofs of cars passing beneath it. Yet other legends tell that it attacks its victims with a blood-stained axe. It has also been said that the very sight of the creature is so unsettling that those who see it while walking across the high trestle are driven to leap off.

Other legends explain the creature’s origins, including that it is a human-goat hybrid, and that it was a circus freak who vowed revenge after being mistreated. In one version, the creature escaped after a train derailed on the trestle. Another version claims that the monster is really the twisted reincarnated form of a farmer who sacrificed goats in exchange for Satanic powers.

The December 30, 1988, Louisville Courier-Journal ran a front-page article entitled Trestle of Death, in which it records two tragedies. Jack “J.C.” Charles Bahm II, a 17-year-old Spalding University student, was struck and killed by a train on February 18, 1987, while crossing the trestle. He has since been eulogized at the site of his death. “JC we love and miss you” is spray-painted on the trestle’s base. In May 1987, 19-year-old David Wayne Bryant died of injuries obtained in 1986 when he jumped from the trestle to dodge an oncoming locomotive.

The Monster at Pope Lick

Nobody knows when the quiet, rural area beyond Jeffersontown first became home to the community’s strangest, and definitely scariest, resident – the Pope Lick Monster.

But tales of the creature, also known as the Sheepman, have circulated for decades in eastern Jefferson County, and as Halloween night approaches, rumors of the beast again seem to be common.

“It’s always been around J-town,” said Michael Zettler, a 1985 graduate of J-town High School. “It was always talked about, especially around Halloween.”

“I first heard of it in the early 1960s,” said Mary Ruckriegel, the wife of J-town Mayor Daniel Ruckriegel. “When I started dating Dan, the kids were always talking about it, especially during Halloween. I don’t know if it was a figment of someone’s imagination or what.”

“I can remember hearing stories of the thing when I was 4 or 5 years old,” said Rod Whitenack, a J-town native now in his early 20’s. “Every time Halloween would roll around, discussion about the monster would start up.”

There are probably as many residents of J-town as there are descriptions of the "thing" that supposedly lives below the rusty train trestle that passes over Pope Lick Road and Pope Lick Creek out Taylorsville Road near Fisherville.

Most describe the monster as a scary half-man, half-sheep, who terrorizes anyone who dares enter his domain. They say he has the features of both man and sheep, with horns, an ugly snout, and a hairy brown body. He walks upright, has hooves for feet, and can run at high speeds, enabling him to catch anyone in his territory.

Some say it is Jefferson County’s version of Ichabod Crane’s nightmare – a headless horseman-type monster who rides the tracks and kills anyone who crosses his path.

Others say it’s not a monster at all; it’s an old chemist who became a recluse after a chemical explosion in his lab terribly disfigured his face.

Others say it’s just a hermit who lived in a nearby shack and would scare away anyone who came near the trestle.

Still, others say the figure that purportedly wanders the area is the deformed son of a local farmer, so hideous he won’t show his face until nighttime.

But whatever the description, the J-town monster has several similarities with other world-famous beasts. Like the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot, actual sightings of the Pope Lick Monster have been few and far between, if at all.

“There was always some guy who said he saw something out there.” Said Whitenack, who said he made many trips to the trestle. “But I never did.”

And like the Swamp Thing and the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the J-town monster has even been the focus of his own local flick, titled “The Legend of the Pope Lick Monster,” which premiered in Louisville in the fall of 1988. The 16-minute, black-and-white movie has been shown at the Vogue, The Uptown, and, most recently, at the Water Tower, and has been well received by area fans.

“I was looking for a Story indigenous to the area,” said the film’s director and producer local independent filmmaker Ron Schildknecht. “And the Sheepman is something only told around here; it’s been around at least three generations.”

Before he began filming, Schildknecht put in nearly a year of research o the subject. “I talked to 50 people formally and probably 100 more informally getting as much information as I could,” he said. “Was he half-man, half-sheep?” Did he walk on all fours or on two legs? Did he murder people or was he tame? I found a lot of interpretations; it was all real scattered out.”

Half the apparent appeal has been the imposing train trestle, which has stood overlooking the area since 1929. The trestle, which is still used regularly today, spans nearly 800 feet and is about 100 feet tall.

Over the years, teenagers have been known to frequent the location in search of a remote spot where they could party without being bothered by police or parents.

“The trestles were a real popular place to go and drink and get rowdy,” Schildknecht said. “The talk of the monster makes it much more attractive to go out there.”

“It was part of a senior tradition,” Ruckriegel said. “They would go out there to see if they could see it; it was a sign of bravery.”

“The boys would take the girls out there to try to scare them,” she added. “It was something really scary.”

While the site may have provided fun for some, tragedy has also come to many who have walked the tracks. In recent years, several youths have been killed, whether from falling from the trestle or after being caught on the tracks and hit by a train.

“It’s unfortunate,” Schildknecht said. “The story of the monster seems so harmless and innocent, except for the real danger of the railroad.”

About a year ago train officials put up a chain link fence with barbed wire to keep thrill-seekers from climbing to the tracks.

But that hasn’t stopped the rumors about the monster.

When the 32-year-old Schildknecht went there to film the movie, he didn’t see the beast but admitted even he found the place a little frightening. “It’s kinda eerie,” he said, “knowing the history and that people have been killed out there.”

“I didn’t feel anything supernatural,” he said. “I was just more intrigued with the ambiance of the trestle. And it’s pretty intense when a train goes by.”

Also finding the area spooky was Zettler, one of the high schoolers who with a couple of friends made the trek to the monster’s purported stomping ground.

“It was real scary.” He said. “Even though you know the legend is silly, you still think about it.”

As long as the legend has been told, no one knows for sure how it started.

“I’ve often wondered if it was a Halloween prank,” Ruckriegel said, “and then got blown out of proportion.”

“It probably started as a man walking his goat,” Zettler said. “It’s just a bunch of stories. It’s something you hear through the years.”

And the legend still exists in the East-End community today, but only to a degree.

“I think a lot of the kids today are too smart to believe all that stuff,” Ruckriegel said. “But I guess it’s still going around.”

“The story is still being told,” Schildknecht said. As long as there’s a trestle out there and as long as there are kids in high school, it’s still alive.”

The Pope Lick Monster exists in the collective imaginations of hundreds of people,” he added, “which for me says he does exist.”

Pope Lick Monster: Louisville’s Goat Man

The scene is picturesque underneath an old but very active railroad trestle in the Fisherville area of Louisville, Kentucky.

“This is the old trestle for the Northern Suffolk Railway,” explained author and historian David Domine.

Legends of the paranormal have turned this site into the center of fear and the home of a renowned creature.

Domine said, “The goat man of Pope Lick as he’s known. They say he’s part man, part goat maybe even part sheep.”

Numerous urban legends exist about the creature’s origins.

One tale Domine explained said, “The goat man arose as a tale of a local farmer back in the day. Tortured a herd of goats for Satan signed a contract with him and forfeited his soul. In the process, he was converted into this terrible creature that was sent to live under the trestle seeking revenge on people!”

Another popular legend Domine claims, “A circus train was crossing the trestle one day and it derailed and in one of the cars there was a kind of circus freak.”

Whether it is a farmer who made a deal with the devil or a so-called circus freak seeking revenge, there is one thing everyone agrees on when sharing tales about The Goat Man, and that is what he looks like.

Domine slowly describes the beast, “The legs are muscular and covered with course dark hair. He’s got the same dark hair on the parts of his body. His face is alabaster they say and he has horns as well.”

The legends don’t just stop at his gruesome features but also focus on the methods he employs to claim his victims. Narratives claim he also has the power to draw you to your death by either hypnosis or voice mimicry.

“The goat man supposedly is a very sly creature and he does all kinds of things to try and trick you into going up onto the trestle. He’s been known to mimic the voice of children who are calling for help,” stressed Domine.

Once you climb on the tracks, there’s no way to escape death from an oncoming train.

Domine removed the smirk from his face and got serious as he explained, “It’s a very dangerous location. Many people think that this trestle is not used, but trains cross here every day.”

There have been several deaths and accidents at the trestle since its construction although signs tell thrill seekers to keep out!

Domine continued, “In the late 80s a movie was made by local filmmaker Rod Schildknecht. Other people have come out here and done documentaries. He’s appeared on several national networks in documentaries and programs about strange creatures and hauntings across the United States.”

The legend of the Kentucky Bigfoot is alive and strong today but Domine stressed about this creature, “Kentucky Sasquatch that’s a whole other thing from the description from people who have seen him. It doesn’t sound like the same thing at all. The strange accounts still pour into this day.”

Devilish BLACK-EYED GIRL Attacks & Terrorizes Katy, Texas Patrol Officer!

A patrol officer in Katy, Texas came forward with an encounter that he had one night while on duty. He observes a young girl standing along the road but then notices that she has black eyes.

"This occurred in September 2022 in the Woodcreek Reserve neighborhood in Katy. It was approximately 11:30 PM. So I saw this girl standing by the side of the road. She looked like she may have been a preteen. I pulled over because I thought I could help her. She was just standing there and I thought it was weird that a kid would be standing by the side of the road that time of night, so I pulled over to see if I could help.

The first thing I did is I called it in. When I looked up she had moved and she was in front of the patrol car standing in the headlights. She was looking at me. She didn't seem afraid or worried and I thought that was weird, so I told dispatch. I went to get out of the car and just as I was starting to open my door I saw her eyes. At that point, I didn't want to get out of the car. I realized that her eyes were totally black. I mean completely black.

She must have seen that I realized that because she started to approach the car. It took everything I could do not to drive away at that point. I mean, I'm a peace officer of the law. It's my job but it was this visceral thing that just took over. I can't describe it but all of my training had just gone out the window. Everything in me just wanted to get the hell away from that girl, but I stayed.

I rolled down the window. As she approached me I asked her where she lived and she mumbled something. I leaned forward and then she suddenly attacked me! This ungodly voice was then coming out of her. I had no idea how a human could make that voice but I was trying to push her off of me. She was trying to pull me out of the car! I was screaming at her to get off me get off me and then she said something. I can't get those words out of my mind. She said, "We're going to die tonight!" Why would she say that to me?

I struggled to break her grip. Then I heard a loud 'crack!' Then she went limp and she fell onto the road. I thought that I may have seriously hurt her. I quickly got out of the car to see if she was OK. Then, suddenly, she stood up like nothing had happened and she ran away into the dark night. But I could hear her laughing. She was not human, I'm telling you!

When I got back to the station, I told my supervisor what had happened. He told me to ignore it and to not write up an incident report. I still patrol the same area. I believe that she is still out there, roaming in the night. She was just not human!" KJ
