MASSIVE BIGFOOT Vanishes Into INVISIBLE PORTAL on Roan Mountain, Tennessee

An eyewitness has a remarkable up-close encounter with a massive Bigfoot. As the creature began to move on it literally started to disappear into an unseen 'portal,' and simply vanished!

A reader transcribed the following account and forwarded it to me:

"The witness and his wife took a trip up to his sister’s place on Roan Mountain in 1989. After the first few days of running around and seeing the sights, they spent the day just hanging out at the house. This led to a few cold beverages being consumed and the grill getting fired up that evening. Later that night, around 9 PM he went out on the back porch to get another beer. That’s when he noticed about half a dozen deer about 100 yards out in the field behind the house. One had a nice rack and he couldn’t quite make out the number of points, so he slipped off the porch and eased over to the corner of the fence which put him about 60 to 70 yards away from them.

As he stood there against the fence watching the deer, that’s when he noticed the ‘moon.’ When he says he ‘noticed it,’ he means he noticed that it was huge and seemed much closer than he’d ever seen it before. He stood there at this fence watching the deer, or was supposed to be but he couldn’t take his eyes off this big glowing yellowish-orange ball of light that seemed to be just out of reach.

So after what he thought was about 20 minutes later (He found out it was more than an hour), he started noticing a tickling sensation on the back of his neck. He shrugged his shoulders and turned his neck a couple of times to shake loose whatever it was tickling him and just then the deer got spooked and bounced away. The noise finally forced him to break his gaze on the moon. That’s when he realized that he’d probably been out there long enough.

He decided to go back inside. He took one last look and mumbled a ‘Wow’ at the beauty of this little sun-reflecting satellite that orbits our world and that’s when it hit him. He felt the hot breath of a huge creature hit the back of his neck at the same time hearing or feeling the deepest chest rumbling, he’d ever heard. He spied onto his right, looking over his shoulder. All he could see was black as far as his peripheral vision would allow. It was a Bigfoot! This all happened in a split second.

When he got his head around far enough, he realized that his face was maybe eight to ten inches away from this thing’s upper abdomen. Looking up he saw this beast's pectoral muscles stuck off its chest about six inches and were huge. Its chest was every bit four and a half feet wide; its shoulders were as big as basketballs added another foot or so on each side from shoulder to shoulder. This thing was at least six feet wide. He didn’t get a good look at its hands or face but its arms were probably more impressive than its chest and shoulders. Its arms were covered in long dark hair maybe four or six inches in length. If the witness had to guess, this behemoth must have been around 10 feet tall and seven to eight hundred pounds. As far as its face went, from the angle he was at, all he could make out was a squared-off bearded chin. He could not see a nose, eyes, ears, raised brow ridge, conical head, nothing, so he couldn’t say whether it looked more like a man or an ape. Its arms were more like an ape’s but its chest was more human-like, just a little more hairy than most.

Now this is where the story starts getting weird. As he mentioned earlier, it all happened in a split second. As he spun around and was in the process of looking up, the creature was going from a bent-over position to standing up straight and taking a step back to his right. As he pulled its left leg over its right, it was like it was slipping through a slit in a green screen. The witness is not sure if it was a portal or some sort of inter-dimensional doorway, all he knows is this huge thing vanished within that split second. There was no foul smell associated with this creature. There was a slight musty smell but it reminded him of the same smell a horse gives off."

What are the Reptilians? These ‘lizard beings’ are called ‘Saurians,’ ‘Draconians,’ or ‘Reptoids.’ Some researchers describe them as ancient shapeshifting humanoids who have inhabited Earth before the time of man. Some conspiracy enthusiasts believe these entities come from a royal extraterrestrial lineage that currently dominates world governments and financial markets. There are also claims that they are related to the Anunnaki, who were supposedly a winged Draconian race, who had descended into Mesopotamia during human pre-history with the knowledge of the planets in the solar system, the precession of the equinoxes, and an understanding of complex medical procedures. It has also been said that the Anunnaki gave the Sumerians a ‘stargate’ before leaving Earth.
I’m not going to make any argument as to the identity of these entities or if they existed in antiquity. But I will acknowledge that their presence is mentioned in many experiencer encounters and abduction accounts and that numerous theories are quite prolific. As a result, there have been thousands of articles and books written about the subject.
So, do I find any facts in these encounter reports? Well, I’ve heard and read a lot of unexplained phenomena over the years. I find it prudent to not make assumptions based on personal bias because you may eventually be proven wrong. What do you believe?

Were the 1937 'AMAZON APEMAN' PHOTOS Authentic?

Could these pictures dated from the 1930s of a supposed apeman found in the jungles of Brazil be proof for the much sought-after missing link?

According to a report in the Daily Mail in October 2012, the 'apeman's' giant lips, furrowed brow, and awkward monkey-like gait appear to be simian and the Dutch magazine 'Het Leven' which published them in 1937 certainly seemed convinced, describing the pictures as those of a mystery apeman.

However, despite any excitement at the zoological and anthropological find of the past one hundred years, many online observers have cast a keen eye onto the pictures and found the tell-tale signs of prosthetic make-up on the face of the apparent monkey-man.

Rather than changing the perceptions of scientists across the world, it appears that the apeman's mouth and brow are stuck into place using rudimentary makeup.

Visible in one picture is the line of the prosthetic mouth which covers the chin up to the bridge of the nose. Other observers have pointed out that the forehead will always be covered with hair in any make-up situation to blend in the prosthesis.

A shrewd onlooker pointed out that for a man recently found wild in the jungles of Brazil, he is remarkably well-shaven and has a particularly neat, if unfashionable haircut.

Others online have made the sad claim that this apeman is most likely an unfortunate individual born with birth defects and exploited to wear the make-up and prosthetics to pose and pretend to be a newly discovered apeman.

Indeed, throughout the 20th century and into the 21st, reports of wild and mythic ape-like beasts living in remote and far-flung locations have fascinated readers across the world.

Experiencer Reported REPTILIAN Encounter in Denver International Airport

I received the following account about the Denver International Airport several years ago. The experiencer swore that they encountered a Reptilian being in March 2006.

"Denver airport - 1:30 AM. I was ill and traveling all the way from NYC to Colorado to see a physician who specialized in IC (bladder disease that mimics cancer). I have never been in a HUGE airport and it was very quiet. Few people and I had no idea where to go off these subway train things. Plus no one was around for me to ask, "Which way do I go?" As I was standing in this tunnel after getting off the train I was looking around and down the long hallways for a BATHROOM. Part of my medical issue is a constant need to urinate.

Anyway, I saw a weird very tall "sculpture" - kind of like a dinosaur but with alligator skin and a lizard face with BIG eyes. It didn't move and because I saw a lot of weird things at the main entry of the airport I assumed it was another freaky art thing. But my phone rang it was Dr. Brookoff asking if I was at the airport. As I turned to go in the direction he explained to me, THE WEIRD tall lizard-looking thing was GONE. Just VANISHED! This was in March of 2006. 

Dr. Brookoff has passed since then and in my opinion under suspicious circumstances. At that time I hadn't heard of Reptilians. I was watching "Conspiracy Theory" w/ Jesse Ventura and looked it up. I KNOW what I saw now, 100% sure that was a Reptilian. I am SO grateful to GOD and Dr. Brookoff for picking me up that night." HJ

The Denver International Airport definitely has some strange murals and other oddities. I wrote a piece in November 2011 which I posted below. I don't know what Heidi Jo witnessed but her story doesn't surprise me. There has been a variety of speculation since the facility opened in 1994...including several conspiracy theories about underground tunnels and symbolism used in art throughout the concourse and terminals. I've heard that certain groups are tied to the airport, including the Illuminati and the Freemasons...that the Denver area is where the establishment of the Western sector of the New World Order will be in the United States. The capstone, or the dedication stone, for the Denver airport, does have a Masonic symbol on it...but many other public buildings throughout the world do as well.

It has been said that Phil Schneider, of Dulce Base fame, said that during the last year of the airport construction, they were connecting the underground airport system to a deep underground base. He stated that there was at least an eight-level deep underground base there and that there was a 4.5 square mile underground city and an 88.5 square-mile base underneath the airport. Many of these supposed deep underground facilities located in the United States have been linked to the congregation of alien beings, including Greys and Reptilians. I'm sure that you can find the interview online.

For many years I have been receiving inquiries about the Denver International Airport and the strange anomalies that supposedly occur there. A former Denver Broncos player told me that he would absolutely 'freaked out' each time he and the team would fly out of there and that he wasn't the only person on the team to express their discontent with the place.

NOTE: Below are a few images of the oddities found around the airport. I have received emails that stated items would suddenly vanish, that some airport personnel were aliens, that they were in a hypnotic trance while in the terminal, that small probes were flying around inside the airport, that people would disappear, etc. Anyway, I'll leave it up to you to decide if the conspiracy theories are valid. Old Firefighter's GHOST Still Hangs Out at Pennsylvania Firehouse

A Fireman in Greene County, Pennsylvania describes the firehouse ghost as 'Uncle Al." He and the other firefighters believe the ghost is a former firefighter who died many years ago.

I received the following account:

"Sir: I've always believed in and been interested in the paranormal. I live in Greene County in Southwestern Pennsylvania and have been a firefighter for over 15 years.

We have a ghost in our fire department. It's an old member who died many years ago and many of our members, myself included, have had experiences with "Uncle Al" as we call him. There have been many times where someone has experienced sounds, noises, and just odd feelings while being in the fire department. We have had a game room added to our department after our member had already died, so he cannot pass into the new room, but you can feel his presence in the doorway.

One of the most memorable experiences I have had with Uncle Al was one day when I was in the engine bay office with 2 members, Ken and myself (this has occurred before when I was alone). We could hear chairs being knocked off of the tables in our social hall. We went upstairs to investigate, and all the chairs looked like they were pushed off the tables.

Ken and I went back downstairs and left everything as is and not long later (maybe 10 minutes) we heard the chairs moving again. We went back upstairs and all the chairs were set back up onto the tables. I am not making this up.

Another experience with Uncle Al occurred when I was standing in the bathroom, which is in the social hall (the part where Al can roam around). It was about midnight and I looked out the window at least 5 minutes previous and noticed no member's cars except mine were in the lot. Soon, I heard someone calling my name. The sounds were coming from the doorway to the stairwell. I can also hear people walking around in the bays again and people stepping on the grates on the floor. I went downstairs to investigate, looking out the window again. There were no cars in the lot. I go to the door to the engine bays and see that the lights are off. There is always the sense of being watched by Uncle Al, be it one person, or 10 people in the firehouse. You can always feel the presence of someone or something watching you." H

A southwest Philadelphia suburban resident is in a Folcraft, PA wildlife refuge. He hears sounds, goes to investigate, and then is frightened by a terrible growl.

"My story happened at Folcroft, Pennsylvania, right outside Southwest Philadelphia and you see a lot of freaky things where I'm from. But nothing made me act in a way that I did that night because I was not by myself. I had my cousin with me who was probably 7 years old and the danger alarm went off full force.

There's a small wooded area nearby and it connects to a water treatment plant that is connected to a nature reserve. If you look on Google Earth you can see the woods connect and go all the way out to US1. I guess it's possible something could live there. There are plenty of deer. Well, we park, and walk into the woods, and I got the feeling kids were down there, probably underage drinking. Just like we all did back in the day. Then I heard what sounded like a group of people talking and I got down on one knee. 30 feet into the woods on top of this hill that drops off. I can't really make it out so I reach down, and pick up a pebble. This will get a reaction and I'll find out if it's people or not.

So I wind up and heave it in the direction of the voices. Way down to the right of us, I hear a smack through layers of leaves and rocks hitting. Then 10 feet in front of us to my left I hear this growl and breathing. It sounded like a human with water in its lungs huffing and puffing right there. It vibrated in my chest. It was furious at me, whatever it was. I felt like I stuck my finger in an electrical outlet. Every hair on the back of my neck and my arms were standing on end I calmly stood up, grabbed my cousin's hand, and said out loud, "Okay, we're leaving right now!" We turned 180° and walked briskly out of the woods. I never saw what this was.

I remember as a kid that same feeling at the zoo when lions would pop off and flex roar. This incident still gives me goosebumps. Have I gone back down there since? NO!"

NOTE: I'm intrigued by this account. The area where this encounter occurred is the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge, which is located along the Delaware River. You can actually see the downtown Philadelphia skyline from the area.

Was this a possible Bigfoot? I have heard of sightings along the river further southwest, deeper into Delaware County toward Chester, PA. The majority of the area is urban and residential, other than the marshes and refuge. Lon

JC JOHNSON: Monsters on the Reservation

In December 2012, an article was posted in the Farmington Daily Times about our friend JC Johnson (deceased) and his investigations on the Dine Navajo Reservation. I thought JC's fans would appreciate reading the article.

A smashed watermelon is spread out in the middle of a dirt road in Upper Fruitland, a community where everything from giant pterodactyls to walking lizards to furry children have been reported.

The watermelon happens to be for Bigfoot, another one of the inhabitants of the bucolic town on the outskirts of the Navajo reservation.

"My grandma left it for him," says Felicia Frank, who lives nearby. "I said, "Grandma, you're feeding Bigfoot?'"

Down the road, Frank points out where several people have sighted the legendary, hairy being, along with other odd species.

"Things like this happen all the time on the rez," she says, noting that it is not just in Upper Fruitland that these extraordinary sightings occur.
It's just a matter of getting people to talk about it.

By driving through the Navajo reservation, no one would know that the vast tribal land is thought by cryptozoologists to be home to so many outlandish species.

"Navajo stories go way back, for years," said Leonard Dan, a self-proclaimed cryptozoologist, someone who studies animals thought to be extinct.

"There have been sightings of Pegasus, and of Griffins," Dan said, referring to two creatures thought by most to come from Greek mythology.

Lately, an unusual number of people on the reservation also have spotted Centaurs, another animal of Greek mythology that is human on top and equine on the bottom.
"I had more reports of Centaurs than Bigfoot this spring," said J.C. Johnson, Dan's partner and fellow self-proclaimed cryptozoologist.

Many people, however, fear talking about what they see because of the traditional taboos that surround many creatures.

Just as many common animals have meaning in Navajo spirituality, so too do some of the atypical ones, Johnson said.

Some believe that if a person sees Bigfoot, they will die a year later. If a person sees a miniature tyrannosaurus rex, also believed by some to be alive on the reservation, they might turn to stone.

Even those who don't believe in such superstitions struggle to bring up the topic.
Brenda Harris, also of Upper Fruitland, said it took her a while to talk about her sightings of a pterodactyl, a winged Jurassic dinosaur, in the late 1990s because she was wary of the humiliation.

After talking about it, though, she found many of her neighbors had similar experiences.

"A lot of people are opening up," she said.

So many people, in fact, have opened up that nationwide media have zeroed in on many of the strange events that have occurred on the reservation.

National Geographic's show "Navajo Cops" featured an episode in which the police tried tracking the Newcomb "Howler," thought perhaps to be a lonely Bigfoot or a skinwalker, an evil Navajo witch that changes form.

Still, not all law enforcement are very responsive when reports involve sightings of weird creatures, according to the people who have called on the police to investigate sightings.

"Different folks, different strokes," said one Navajo police criminal investigator from Shiprock. He did not want to be named.

"As far as looking for the Lochness monster in the San Juan River, we're not going to do that," he said, adding that he respected people's beliefs but did not often have time to entertain them.

While some residents have grown used to the idea of the bizarre assortment of species on the reservation, others truly fear certain types.

Just recently, one Upper Fruitland family spotted a red-eyed, three-clawed, winged creature comparable to the demonic being in the 2001 American horror film "Jeepers Creepers." The family named it the "Night Stalker."

It has left claw marks on their home, and on their car, and even has managed to scratch their daughter during her sleep.

Johnson has made it his mission to document these cases, especially when law enforcement fails to.

Johnson has independently researched all kinds of cases, from behemoth snakes to werewolves to upright hooded lizards that will shoot poison into a person's legs and then eat them. Not to mention skinwalkers, the evil Navajo spirits that are known to take the shape of a wolf, among other animals.

"The locals out there all know about it," says Johnson.

While he works independently for the most part, he sometimes calls the Navajo criminal investigators in to give his research an added credibility that is, if they will come.

Oftentimes, the Navajo police do not want to respond because of their own superstitions, or simply because they do not find the matters important.

On a reservation that is steeped and crime and short on resources, only a few officers find the time to make it out to cases that sound a little bit "out of this world."

And, if they do find valuable evidence, they confiscate it immediately.

"They just show up in a black van," said Harris, who has heard of several instances when the police have told people to repeat nothing of what they saw and forget the sighting ever happened.

As Johnson and Dan walk near the river with a few of the Upper Fruitland residents that have seen some of the odd species that the two local cryptozoologists are so interested in, Johnson picks up the watermelon on the ground.

Johnson looks at it, places his hand around it as he imagines Bigfoot might have, and inspects some of the markings, which look like they are from some kind of animal.

"This might have been Squatchie," says Johnson, who also affectionately refers to Bigfoot as a "furry bastard."

Still, he says, it may not have been. No track marks. No broken branches.

"I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything," Johnson says, noting that it is important not to have an agenda when pursuing evidence of the unknown.

"It's just the truth," says Harris.

UFO WITNESS THREATENED by USAF Special Investigator!

A Federal security officer and his girlfriend observed a UFO and made a report with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. He was later threatened with a transfer by a possible MIB!

I received the following account:

"Dear Lon, I've enjoyed your books for a couple of years now and 'Pulse of the Paranormal' for my nighttime reading and decided it was time to share my experience before age and another stroke wipes it completely away.

In 1977 I was between marriages, working for the US General Service Administration as a security officer in the San Francisco Bay area, and driving home from the California Gold country in Sonora with my girlfriend. It was early October, around dusk, and the skies were clear. The sun had dropped behind the Wildcat Range as we drove east on SR 108/120 and the stars were coming out. We saw one brilliant star shining above the ridge and I assumed it was a planet until it suddenly moved to the north several degrees. We looked at each other and the word "plane?" popped into our heads. It then moved quickly to the south and seemed to shimmer. There's no way for me to determine how far it was or how large it was. To me, it was still a brilliant object. We pulled over to the side of the road and watched the object shift north and south and upward with incredible speed. Two cars also stopped and parked behind us and those occupants stared at the light. When the light show couldn't get bigger the "star" split into five other objects. They were less brilliant but still outshined the stars that were coming out. In less than a minute all five objects sped away upward and to the south. One left some sort of trail. The group of strangers suddenly burst into applause as I did.

When I arrived in the next city, Oakdale, California about half an hour or so later I made a pay phone call to the Sheriff's Department and reported my sighting. The woman who took my call said, "You and everybody else tonight." My girlfriend and I continued home and forgot about the incident. Until, about a week later at my work site, my supervisor came up to me and said two federal agents of some sort were in the office and wanted to talk to me. I figured it might concern one of my criminal cousins at the time, so I was unprepared for their credentials Department of the Air Force Office of Special Investigation (an organization I'd never heard of) and their request that I brief them on my sighting.

I pretty much gave them the same report I gave to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. One agent kept nodding and looking at papers taken from a briefcase.

I was then told, "You were incredibly fortunate to see an amazing phenomenon of light, reflection, and weather. This is very rare." I remember those exact words because they seemed so ridiculous. I replied, "No sir. I flunked meteorology in college but I learned enough to know that's not what I saw. Light does not refract like that."

His partner (and yes they had dark suits) said something to the effect that what I saw was a natural occurrence and that was the end of it. I remember saying, "Fine, so why are you guys here?" I was told I was not to mention the "event" to anyone ever again. By this time I was pissed. This was still America and I had the right to talk about the "weather" if I wanted to. Which is probably what I said. The first agent gave me a smile and said, "Would you like to see the weather in Butte, Montana? A transfer can be arranged." At this point, I should explain that Butte, Montana was/is the dumping ground for federal agents, officers, security people, etc who have screwed up very badly but couldn't be fired. Some considered it worse than Juneau, Alaska. I remember saying, "Oh, now I get it. You just had to explain it to me. Sure." And I walked out. Any advancement in the GSA disappeared that day but my life turned out well without it. Now as I slip into my 62nd year and poor health I wanted to get my story out. Not very exciting. No aliens. No ships. But a moment in my life I have yet to forget.

NOTE: I contacted the witness and let them know that I understand their frustration, it's happened to me as well. Even though 'Project Blue Book' was officially terminated in 1970, the same pattern of intimidation continues. Presently, the Air Force Office of Special Investigation considers itself a federal criminal investigations unit, that also provides counterintelligence services. It seems that UFO investigations are no longer the duty of the AFOSI. Nowadays, some UFO inquiries are accompanied by a 'clicking' telephone line and/or investigators who seem to be a bit different than humans and dressed in black attire. Lon

Spirit Recognized During Creepy OUIJA BOARD SESSION

A Ouija board session among friends in Naperville, Illinois takes a creepy and familiar turn. The writer recognizes the 'spirit!' Later, they witness an unexplained event tied to the energy.

I received the following account:

"So, I've been thinking a lot recently of a session I had with a couple of friends and an Ouija Board 3 years ago. I used to believe in spirits and be really into the occult but this experience kind of spooked me away and I don't know what I believe right now. Well here's the story, let me know what you make of it.

So I was with 3 or 4 friends in a girl's basement. We were all into the occult and supernatural stuff and brought out the Ouija board to mess around. We contacted a spirit (she said she was good) and asked her what her name was. She said 'EMILY' and '6.' We asked a couple of random questions and treated her like we would a real six-year-old. Then someone got the idea to ask her how she died (big mistake) and she spelled out, 'MOM.'

At this point, I thought I recognized the spirit and took my hands off the board. I kept asking questions that I knew the answer to and if this spirit was the girl I thought she was, she would too. I asked if she had siblings, and she said 'YES.' I asked what color her house was and she said 'BLUE.' Then I asked what street she lived on and she said 'LOOMIS.' All of these answers lined up with a murder that happened in my town (Naperville, Illinois) in 1999. I used to live a mile or two down the road on the same street.

We were officially creeped out but not to be rude we asked her to leave and she said she didn't want to. We told her to please leave and that she can't stay but that we wish her the best.

On our way up from the basement the old playroom that my friend hadn't used in years was wide open with a few toys out of their box lying on the floor like they were just used. It still seemed that she left though because my friend never mentioned anything weird going on in her house." S

THEY CAME FROM THE SKY: Did Ancient Astronauts Intervene in Earth's Human Timeline?

Proponents of ancient astronaut theories often maintain that humans are either descendants or creations of beings who landed on Earth thousands of years ago. The most popular theory is that human knowledge, religion, and culture came from extraterrestrial visitors in ancient times. Ancient astronauts have been widely used as a plot device in science fiction, but the idea that ancient astronauts actually existed is not taken seriously by most academics.

Arguments can be made that the evidence for ancient astronauts comes from supposed gaps in historical and archaeological records, and they also maintain that absent or incomplete explanations of historical or archaeological data point to the existence of ancient astronauts. The evidence is said to include archaeological artifacts that are beyond the presumed technical capabilities of the historical cultures with which they are associated. This also includes artwork and legends that are interpreted as depicting extraterrestrial contact or technologies.

Notwithstanding these contentions, let us say that there is an axiom to the ancient astronaut theory. Then we need to ask, who were these beings? What did they represent to the inhabitants of Earth? Where are these beings the ancient Gods of antiquity?

Ra, the Eye of the Sun

P'TAH (Gods of Heaven came to Earth from the Celestial Disk) installed as Egypt's first Divine Ruler his own son RA. Once known as ATUM, he is probably the most important of Egyptian Gods and sails across the sky in his solar boat. The legend goes that mankind was formed from RA's tears. Need confirmation? Look above from the hot desert sands at the Sun...that's his all-powerful eye bearing down on you.

Ancient Egyptian legends tell of Tep Zepi, or the First Time. This is described as an age when "sky gods" came down to Earth and raised the land from mud and water. They supposedly flew through the air in flying "boats" and brought laws and wisdom to man through a royal line of pharaohs.

RA is said to have an unusual relationship with his wife, the Sky Goddess NUT. In the evening he sails through her mouth and then has to battle through her nightmare insides (The Milky Way). RA wends his way through twelve gates at the rate of one per hour avoiding malevolent monsters including the Snake God APEP who lies in wait hoping to go snatch him up. Once these perils are transversed, he then surfaces via NUT's birth canal to greet the new day. He's not alone in his journey. Other Gods - THOTH, MAAT, HATHOR, HORUS are the top cohorts, with ABTU, ANET, and KHEPRI closely watching for trouble. The night boat is called Mantchet, and the day boat is called Semketet, which they board to make their rounds. NUT gave birth to OSIRIS. At the time of OSIRIS' birth, a loud voice was heard all over the world, saying, "The lord of all the earth is born."

Many Gods try to emulate RA by adding his name to theirs for added glory. The most notable of these was AMUN-RA.

RA is the only god, apart from OSIRIS, who is definitely said to be not on the earth. RA, it is said, is an aging god, still powerful, but too old to deal with his children any longer, so he has gone exclusively to the sky to watch over the world. HORUS rules over the earth and the gods in his stead, demonstrating the divine right of kingship.

In the New Kingdom, the god AMUN rose to prominence and was fused with RA as AMUN-TA. During the Amarna Period, Akhenaten suppressed the cult of RA in favor of another solar deity, the ATEN, the deified solar disc, but after the death of Akhenaten the cult of RA was restored.

What can be extracted from this information? Despite the building of elaborate structures like the Great Pyramid or the knowledge of technology even before their use of the wheel, the Egyptians were a remarkable civilization with a rich and vibrant history. If they were helped by so-called ancient astronauts, it would not take away any of the greatness and inspiration they have left for subsequent generations.

Huang-Di, Son of Heaven

Huang-Di (2697-2598 B.C.) is considered to be the first emperor of China and the ancestor of all Chinese. Huang Di, or the Yellow Emperor, is referred to as the "Originator of the Chinese Culture", and all people of the Chinese race regard themselves as descendants of Yan Di and Huang Di. According to many sources he was one of the legendary 'Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors'. Chinese scholars have argued whether Huang-Di was “real” or “mythical”. Depending on the source you use he has been described as a god-king, a mythical king, a real king, a god-like-king, a “son of the heavens” or a half-god. Chinese history suggests that he was real but not human.

Many ancient cultures have kings and rulers that have descended from the skies and referred to as “Gods” and their offspring, as a result of relations to humans, as “half-gods”. Chinese accounts are no different in this respect. According to legend, before Huang-Di was born there was “a radiance from the great star Chi and the Dipper Constellation (Ursa Major)”. His conception was marked by a “thunderclap on a clear day in the skies”. Huang-Di then begins his unification of China and is also credited with being a cultural hero, having brought traditional Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture) to the country. His wife taught the Chinese how to make silk. He was said to live in the Kunlun Mountains in the heart of Tibet. After he lived and ruled for over 100 years he is said to have prepared his “return to the skies”. Then a Dragon “descended from the sky and took Huang-Di away”. Some sources say that he did not die then but lived another 200 years in the Syuan Yuan stars (the Leo Constellation).

Huang-Di is also said to have authored a book called “Bai Ze Tu” which describes 11520 types of “shapeshifters, monsters, spirits, beings” in the Universe. This book is considered lost. Some sources also cite Huang-Di as having instructed Lao Tzu...the originator of Taoism.

Ancient accounts of Huang-Di refer to him as an inventor of odd mechanical devices. A machine called “the south-pointing chariot” helped him win various battles. Another odd device that Huang-Di is supposed to have invented is described as “a tripod”. This “tripod” was 4 meters in height and “100s of energies filled its inside” and made “odd noises”. According to legend, this tripod depicted “dragons flying in the clouds”. Furthermore, the tripod was set up at “Summit Lake Mountain” and “had to be pointed at the Syuan Yuan star” (the brightest star in this Constellation is Regulus). This is also the star Huang-Di is said to be from. Apparently this “tripod” was also able to store data and record the life and times of Huang-Di. Huang-Di’s “Dragon” is not described as some mythological creature but as a device to ascend to “the suns”...a means of transportation and more than three thousand years old.

The works on Huang-Di's life state that the dragon named 'Changhuan' covers an extreme distance in only one day and that any human who rides it can reach the age of two thousand years...a concept consistent with other worldwide legends and accounts of gravitational time dilation in regards to these “vehicles of the Gods”.

When the Huang-Di reached the age of just over a hundred years, he arranged his worldly affairs with his ministers and prepared for his journey back to the Heavens. The close of his long reign was glorified by the appearance of a phoenix and a mysterious animal known as the Qilin as tokens of his administration. The life of Huang-Di is celebrated annually by the Chinese people.

What can be extracted from this information? The start of Chinese culture has always been murky, they are a remarkable civilization with an uncommon and mysterious history. If the ancient Chinese were helped by so-called ancient astronauts, it would not take away any of the skills and traditions they have left for subsequent generations.

Krishna, The Divine Source

Krishna is usually regarded as an avatar of Vishnu and in some traditions considered the Supreme Being. Lord Krishna is the embodiment of love and divine joy, that destroys all pain and sin. He is the protector of sacred utterances and cows. Krishna is an instigator of all forms of knowledge and was born to establish the religion of love.

Tradition holds that Krishna saw Vishnu in a vision in which the former deity told Krishna to destroy Kamsa son of a demon, a tyrannical ruler of the world. Krishna's mother, Devaki, was Kamsa's half-sister. Kamsa already killed her first six sons because he had been told one of her sons would kill him. Krishna's elder brother, Devaki's seventh child, Balarama was miraculously saved by Vishnu.

Krishna was also saved when exchanged by his parents for the daughter of a herdsman Nanda and his wife Yasoda (the daughter was also a divine being, an incarnation of Maya). With his foster parents, Krishna spent a happy life playing boyish pranks and seducing the gopis (cow girls) and other rustic maidens. They found his flute playing irresistible. Legend has it he may have had 16,000 wives. But his favorite was Radha, the daughter of his foster father, and his childhood lover, although they did not marry.

According to legend, Krishna was not only divine but heroic as well. He is alleged to have defeated numerous dragons and monsters, and eventually as predicted, killed his half-uncle the tyrannical king Kamsa.

It was said that demi-gods or devas used to appear frequently to people and gave them technology and knowledge, they also interbred with the population. The Rishis were the keepers of the highest science and knowledge and they learned this from a "divine source".

Some examples of mortal and gods interaction:

Kunti got all her sons from the gods. She learned how to summon these gods from a Rishi who gave her a mantra for each god. Also, Kunti's father's grandfather was actually a naga (shape-shifting serpent)

Krishna's city of Dwarika and Ravan's city of Lanka were built by Vishwakarma, who was the chief architect and engineer of the demi-gods. Vishwakarma was also to transport entire land masses. He also revealed the art of mechanical engineering and architecture to humans. And made the weapon "Agneyastra".

The demi-god Indra was where Arjuna (who was his son) obtained all his celestial futuristic weapons and his vimana (aeroplane).

Krishna was "not of this Earth" and he knew all the demi-gods very well and they all revered him. In fact, Krishna was implanted into the womb of the mother of Krishna by a ray of light from the sky (virgin birth).

The story of Krishna also narrates the tale of how Shalva attacked the city of Dwarka with what appears to be a flying saucer.

On learning of Shishupala’s death, his friend, Salva, invoked Shiva and secured from him a flying saucer, a vimana that could travel anywhere in the world, in the air, on the ground, under the sea. Using this vimana, Salva launched an attack on Dwaraka determined to avenge his friend’s death. Both Krishna and Balarama were in Indraprastha attending Yudhishtira’s coronation when this happened. So the defense of the city was left to the other Yadavas. Dwaraka was pounded by missiles from the skies. Krishna’s sons and grandsons put up a brave fight but were no match for Salva. When news of the aerial attack on Dwaraka reached Krishna, he hurried home and entered the battlefield immediately. First, he shot an arrow with the Sharanga bow and brought Salva’s vimana down as if it were a bird. He then hurled the Kaumodaki mace and smashed the vimana to dust. Then raising the Nandaka sword, he beheaded Salva. The Yadavas were jubilant in victory.

Even the Ramayana talks about a flying chariot called pushpaka-vimana. To many the account of this chariot is not poetic imagination but historical evidence that airplanes existed in Vedic times. The chariot belonged to the yaksha-king Kubera. Ravana took it by force after driving Kubera out of Lanka. Ravana used the chariot to abduct Sita. After killing Ravana and rescuing Sita, Rama returned to the city of Ayodhya on this flying chariot.

Dwarka is a city and a municipality of Jamnagar district in the Gujarat state of India. Dwarka is rated as one of the seven most ancient cities in the country. The legendary city of Dvaraka was the dwelling place of Lord Krishna. It is believed that due to damage and destruction by the sea, Dvaraka has submerged six times and modern-day Dwarka is therefore the seventh such city to be built in the area.

Krishna was the charioteer during the War of Kurukshetra. While the war was in swing, Krishna was a witness to the death of Duryodhana (the eldest son of the blind king Dhritarashtra by Queen Gandhari and an avatar of the demon Kali). Immediately after, Krishna received the curse of Duryodhana`s mother, Gandhari for not rescuing his son. She was an ardent worshipper of Lord Vishnu and recognized Krishna as his incarnation. She equally believed and revered Krishna, but on seeing her son die she could not find any justification as to why Lord Krishna allowed such a thing to happen.

Gandhari cursed Lord Krishna that he would perish after thirty-six years, all alone and in a miserable state. All his followers, devotees, relatives, and loved ones will also die simultaneously. When this time arrived in Krishna`s life; madness seized the inhabitants of Dwaraka to such an extent that the people started to kill one another. All sons and grandsons of Krishna were also dead in the massacre. Only the women, Krishna and Balaram were alive in Dwaraka.

After a while, Balaram isolated himself in a dense forest. Lord Krishna then went to his father, took blessings, and left for the forest, where Balaram awaited him. He saw that his elder brother was sitting under a mighty tree on the fringes of the forest. Balaram was sitting in a posture of a Yogi, eventually a thousand-headed snake, `Ananta naga` came out from his mouth and glided its way to the ocean. Soon, the ocean and other holy rivers came together to welcome Anant Naga into their realm.

Lord Krishna saw his brother depart from the real world and he started to wander in the forest. Finally, he sat on the ground, started to think of Gandhari`s curse, and realized that the time for his departure had already arrived. He self-possessed his senses and concentrated on his Yoga. A hunter approached that spot in the forest and from a distance saw him and thought to be a deer. He loosed his shaft, took out the arrow, and mistakenly pierced Lord Krishna`s foot. He came hurried near to the Lord and saw him to be a man wrapped in yellow robes practicing yoga. The hunter immediately touched the feet of Lord Krishna and asked for an apology.

Lord Krishna opened his eyes and comforted the hunter, then ascended towards heaven, thus filling the whole sky with glory. After passing through Indra`s paradise, he reached his place at even higher strata. Krishna's wives; including Rukmini became Sati and burned themselves on the pyre. The rest of the women of Dwaraka became ascetics and nuns. After each and every living being of Dwaraka moved away to other places, the ocean came about and engulfed the city, thus leaving no trace of the land of Lord Krishna.

Anu, Lord of the Great Above

To the Sumerians and all of Mesopotamia, Anu was a sky god, the god of heaven, lord of constellations, and the father not only of all the gods but also of evil spirits and demons, most prominently the demoness Lamashtu, who preyed on infants. He was the father of the Anunnaku (also spelled Anunnaki). It was believed that he had the power to judge those who had committed crimes and that he had created the stars as soldiers to destroy the wicked. His attribute was a royal tiara decorated with two pairs of bull horns. His symbol resembles somewhat a Maltese cross, representing as it appears the four points of the compass and hence the entire heavens. His bow, which is frequently mentioned, can probably be identified as the Milky Way.

Anu possesses vast powers of an unknown nature, which seem to surpass the powers of any other Mesopotamian god. Magical in their form and nature, these powers can be employed in numerous forms. He can project rays of mystical forms resembling modern lasers that can explode on impact and erect shields and objects such as thrones and ships from this energy. He can also create dimensional portals at will to travel between Earth and Heaven and create spells that augment or enforce spells already in existence. He can project his image, voice, or energy bolts from heaven to earth and even place bondage spells powerful enough to bond individuals to certain realms. Anu seems to have limited precognitive and sensory awareness to perceive facts and information from beyond time and space.

Anu was considered part of a triad including Enlil, god of the air, and Enki, god of water. In the Code of Hammurabi, it is said that the goddess Inanna (or Antum) of Ereck may at one time have been his consort. Anu is so prominently associated with the city of Erech in southern Babylonia that there are good reasons for believing this place to have been the original seat of the Anu cult. Anu was the god of the 'great above', and the son of the first pair of gods, Ansar and Kisar, descendant of Apsu and Tiamat.

In Sumerian cosmology, there was, first of all, the primeval sea, from which was born the cosmic mountain consisting of heaven, 'An', and earth, 'Ki'. They were separated by Enlil, then Anu carried off to the heavens, and Enlil to the earth.

According to the Earth Chronicles series by Zecharia Sitchin, the wife of Anu was a fertility goddess and the mother of the gods; her cult was centered in Munster. However, Anu was one of the Anunnaki who came from the planet Nibiru (Marduk). According to Sitchin's theories on Sumerian legend and lore, the Anunnaki arrived first on Earth probably 400,000 years ago, looking for minerals, especially gold, which they found and mined gold in Africa.

After ruling for 9 years of his own, Anu was dethroned by his son, Enlil. There have been comparisons between the myth of Anu's dethronement to that of the Greek myth concerning Zeus and his father, Cronos. Like Cronos, Anu was castrated by his son with a bronze sickle.

Anu cursed Enlil to have three miserable sons for his disobedience and escaped. He retires to the upper heavens where Anu welcomed most of the gods into this new realm he called Celestial Dilmun, but Enlil, now calling himself Dagon, was soon overthrown by his brother Hadad, now called Baal. He confined both of them to Earth and after both of them were ousted as rulers, he confined both of them to separate kingdoms in the underworld. From the heavens, Anu reclaimed his role as King of the gods.

The Wandjina, Dreamtime Artists

In 1838, a party led by Captain George Grey stumbled across paintings in the Kimberley district of Western Australia that have been the subject of controversy ever since. Exploring among the hills near the Prince Regent River, Grey's group found several caves in which many extraordinary figures were painted.

Describing the main painting in one of the caves Grey investigated, he wrote in his journal that "It was the figure of a man, ten feet 6 inches [3.2 meters] in length, clothed from the chin downwards in a red garment, which reached to the wrist and ankles"

"...The face and head of the figure were enveloped in a succession of circular bandages or rollers...these were colored red, yellow, and white: and the eyes were the only features represented on the face. Upon the highest bandage or roller, a series of lines were painted in red, but...it was impossible to tell whether they were intended to depict written characters or some ornament for the head.."

Grey continued to state that the paintings: "...had the appearance of being much more defaced, and ancient, than any of the others that the party had seen".

Wandjina (the spirit in the cloud), as the paintings have become known, has given rise to many theories. Some people contend that the Wandjina represent visiting extraterrestrials, with their spherical helmets to protect them from our earthly environment. The existing rock art has depicted them as having huge upper bodies and large heads. Their faces show eyes and noses but typically lack mouths. Around the heads of Wandjinas, there appears to be lightning and feathers.

To the Australian Aborigines, the Wandjina (or Wondjina) were cloud and rain spirits who, during the Dreamtime, painted their images (as humans but without mouths) on cave walls. Dreamtime is a sacred era in which ancestral Totemic Spirit Beings formed The Creation. It has been said if the Wandjina had mouths, the rain would never cease. They also lacked limbs and had a skull-like face. Their ghosts still exist in small ponds. Walaganda, one of the Wandjina, became the Milky Way.

The Wandjinas have common colors of black, red, and yellow on a white background. Wandjinas are believed to have made the sea, the earth, and all its inhabitants. The Wandjina is thought to have special powers and if offended, can cause flooding and intense lightning. The paintings are still believed to have special powers and therefore are to be approached cautiously.

Aboriginal actor-historian Ben Blakenley tells of "The Legend of the Silver Bird", "Long long ago, far back in the Dream Time, a great red colored egg (spaceship) came down from the skies. It tried to land safely on the ground but broke (crash-landed). Out of it emerged white-skinned culture heroes (gods) and their children."

"The children's elders soon died, either through their old age or because they could not accustom themselves to our atmosphere. The children however were young and able to adapt more easily to their new surroundings. They carved and painted the likenesses of their parents upon cave walls to perpetuate their memory. In time the great red colored egg rusted away until its remains had merged with the ground, thus creating the red soil of Central Australia. The children of the culture heroes who came from the sky grew in numbers until they eventually populated the whole land, their skins turning black due to the hot climate."

Scholars have long argued whether these are visiting astronauts and their spacecraft, or mythical culture heroes and toltemic designs. Ufologists have pointed out that many of these puzzling shapes are similar to UFO shapes which have been sighted and reported in the 20th century. The implication is that 15,000 years ago strange shapes were observed in the skies. Whether these were spacecraft containing ancient astronauts remains unknown. There is evidence both for and against the theory of ancient astronauts and that they may once have visited and had some influence on the ancient history of Australia.

An ancient astronaut legend comes from the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. This was told by the Dharuk tribe which formerly occupied a vast area stretching from the Hawkesbury River-Sydney District across to the western slopes of the Blue Mountains. The legend concerns "Biramee the Bird Man," who laid a great egg near what is now the town of Linden, from which the ancestors of the Aborigines hatched.

Another legend contends that Biame, the Sky God, came down from the sky in a big dreamtime hunt across the Blue Mountains. He gave the Aborigines the spear thrower and the boomerang, teaching them how to hunt their food and also to make fire...then he returned to the sky from whence he had come. The carvings not only depict Biame but also many strange little figures which were also the totemic figures of the various tribal groups that peopled the area. Among these totemic figures carved on the stone is a strange fish-like object which some have theorized to be space-craft. They also point to a strange human figure clad in garments that could be said to resemble an astronaut; others see a resemblance between this figure and an Egyptian soldier equipped with a helmet and shield and say that the above creation myth is more reminiscent of those of the Middle East.

Although these finds may not be proof of extraterrestrial civilizations having visited Earth in antiquity, there is certainly evidence that could be said to lend considerable weight to the ancient astronaut theory in Australia. The evidence primarily consists of archaeological finds which imply the former existence on this continent of a race of non-aboriginal men who inhabited Australia before the dawn of history, and who have left behind them traces of a vast astronomical knowledge. Similar features are to be found elsewhere throughout the ancient world. However, the mystery remains as to how these ancient peoples came by their knowledge often without sophisticated equipment which is only now available to modern man.

THE GREENBRIER GHOST: Testimony From the Grave

Zona Heaster Shue was born in the mountains of West Virginia. Raised around Richlands, Zona never left Greenbrier County in her short lifetime. Greenbrier County is spread out over a thousand square miles, mostly mountainous, with steep, valleys, dense and dark woods, and winding streams.

In 1895, life had turned bad for Zona Heaster Shue. She had given birth to a child out of wedlock, and no marriage was forthcoming...but through the help and reputation of her mother, Mary Jane Heaster, Zona got by, biding her time.

Estratus Stribbling Shue, known as Trout, was in his early thirties when he showed up in Greenbrier County. Trout was a big man, tall, ruggedly handsome, and took work as a blacksmith in the shop belonging to James Crookshanks. It wasn’t long before his path crossed Zona’s. In Trout Shue, Zona found a release for her passion, as well as stability, and to everyone around them, it was obvious that they were deeply in love. Trout had baggage himself...two previous marriages, one ending in divorce, the other leaving Trout a widower, which perhaps made him a bit more understanding about an illegitimate child.

There was one obstacle, Zona’s mother Mary Jane who took an instant dislike and distrust of Estratus Stribbling Shue. In her eyes, Trout was the devil himself, and she was dead set against the marriage.

But a mother’s wish has little sway over a daughter’s desire, and in November of 1896, in the Methodist Church at Livesay’s Mill, Zona and Trout were married. They set up housekeeping in a two-story frame home that had once been the residence of the founding father of Livesay’s Mill, William G. Livesay.

Life was tough in turn-of-the-century West Virginia, and there were almost as many ways to die as there were people, paramount among those being disease, which could strike quickly and spread almost as fast. Just after the ringing in of the new year, 1897, Zona took sick. For the next few weeks, Zona was looked after by Dr. George W. Knapp, though the cause of her ailment was something of a mystery. There were rumors that Zona was pregnant again, and perhaps the pregnancy was exceptionally difficult, or perhaps it was any of several mysterious ailments that afflicted women before their reproductive system was understood as it is today.

Whatever the cause of her illness, Trout played the part of the doting husband. On the morning of January 23, he went to the cabin of Martha Jones, a black woman, known to everyone in those parts as Aunt Martha, to ask if her son, Anderson could head over to the house to do some chores for Mrs. Shue. Anderson was busy that morning, but before leaving, Trout made the youngster promise to get over to the house that afternoon. And to make certain, Trout made no less than four more trips to remind young Anderson.

Just after lunch, Anderson made his way to the Shue house. He knocked, no answer. So he let himself in, knowing that Zona had been sick and maybe didn’t hear him. He went through the house and nervously peered into the bedroom, where he found Zona stretched out on the foot of the bed, feet together and her hand on her stomach. Dead.

Anderson took to flight, first telling his mother who sent him on to Crookshank’s shop to tell Trout Shue the news. Trout sent him on to fetch the doctor, who in those days doubled as coroner, and took off at a run for the house. When Doc Knapp reached the house, Trout was in the bedroom, cradling the head of his dead wife, inconsolable. After finding her corpse, Trout had dressed her in a fine dress, if somewhat old-fashioned, with a tall, stiff collar, veil over her face, and around her neck, what he said was her favorite scarf. The doctor at first examined Zona for signs of life. Finding none, he made a cursory examination for the cause of death, which seemed to agitate Trout in his grief, and knowing all too well of Zona’s ill-health, he determined that the cause of death of “everlasting faint,” which he later changed to childbirth.

Trout was out of his head with grief. He refused to leave his wife’s side during the wake, spending most of the time still cradling her head in his hands, holding a pillow to the side of her face to keep her comfortable. At times Trout leaps up and paces the room, showing great energy in contrast to his overwhelming grief, which the mourners put down to his mourning. Shue’s odd behavior aroused the suspicion of more than one person at the wake, some of whom noticed that as the corpse was being taken to the cemetery, the head flopped about more than one would expect. Zona was buried in the graveyard of Soule Methodist Church, up on Sewell Mountain, in a grave that remained unmarked till 1979. It took almost a hundred years before the congregation of the church erected a marker for the most famous person buried there, Zona Heaster Shue.

Zona’s mother, Mary Ann Heaster wasn’t just suspicious of Trout Shue. When told of her daughter’s death, Mary Ann responded that “the devil has killed her.”

After the funeral, she had removed the sheet which had covered her daughter’s body, and at first tried to return it to Trout, who refused it. Taking it back home, she began washing it by hand and was chilled to see that as she did so, the water in the basin turned blood red, and a foul odor of death emanated from the cloth. The water then cleared, and Mary Ann might have put the incident down to her imagination, had she not then seen that the sheet was now stained pink. Zona’s mother began to pray each night, begging Zona to return to her and tell her the truth of her death.

After four weeks of her prayer vigil, on a dark and moonless West Virginia night, a radiant, white light appeared to Mary Ann, which then faded away. On the next night, Zona appeared herself, not as a wispy form, but as flesh and blood, corporeal and cold to the touch. For the next three nights, Zona appeared to her mother and told her story.

On the night before her body had been discovered, her husband had come home and fell into a rage when he saw that she hadn’t cooked any meat to go with supper. The specter went on to tell her mother that her husband, in a blind rage overpowered her and closed his fingers around her throat. Such was his fury that Trout hadn’t merely choked his wife to death. Instead, his iron-strong grip had mashed her windpipe, ruptured and tearing ligaments before finally breaking her neck, snapping it between the first and second vertebrae. After relating this tale, as the seemingly reanimated corpse of her murdered daughter made her way towards the door and away from her mother for the last time, Zona turned her head towards Mary Jane, completely around on her body, to show her that indeed her neck had been shattered.

Mary Ann Heaster visited the county prosecutor, John Alfred Preston, pleading with him for hours to open the case once more, telling him of the visitation of her daughter. Whether Preston believed Mary Ann is not known. Perhaps he did, or perhaps after asking around and finding out that several people in the area had the same suspicions, he spoke with Dr. Knapp. Knapp had remained somewhat troubled about Zona’s death himself, as Trout’s grief prevented him from examining the body as thoroughly as he liked, and he told Preston so. Armed with this information, and the word of several locals who had reported seeing bruising on the neck of Zona, he ordered that the corpse be exhumed, an act unheard of in rural West Virginia at the time.

On February 22, almost a month after her death, Zona was dug up and brought to Nickell's schoolhouse. Trout Shue accompanied the small party of neighbors, led by Prosecutor Preston and Doctor Knapp, as well as some local law enforcement. Over the next three hours, the evidence of Zona’s cause of death became readily apparent, and Trout soon found himself in the jail of Sheriff Bill Nickell, held without bail for the first-degree murder of his wife, Zona Heaster Shue.

In those days justice wasn’t swift, and it wasn’t till June that Circuit Judge J.M. McWhorter made his way to Lewisburg. While waiting for his arrival, Prosecutor Preston tried to shore up his case against Shue, with the help of his assistant prosecutor Henry Gilmer. After all, the evidence against him, discounting the spectral evidence was purely circumstantial. Preston had discovered in the meantime, the fact that Shue’s first wife had divorced him because of his great cruelty, and his second had died under mysterious circumstances.

For his part, Shue hired Dr William Rucker and the first black attorney to practice in a Greenbrier court, James P.D. Gardner. Awaiting trial, Shue told another inmate that the case would never stand up in court and that he would be soon freed, and hoped to eventually marry seven times.

The trial of Trout Shue for the murder of Zona Heaster Shue began on June 30, 1897, in Greenbrier Court. Preston kept his case to the earthly facts, including testimony from several people of how Trout had refused to let anyone near his wife’s body during the wake and funeral, as well as the stiff, high-necked collar and scarf with a large bow tied around her neck. Others related how after the funeral, Shue’s grief seemed to have dissipated quickly, and he showed no signs of mourning and behaved nothing like a man who had lost his wife of little more than a couple of months.

Then came the defense, and Rucker and Gardner turned to the circumstances that had led to the autopsy in the first place, the visitation of Mary Jane Heaster by her deceased daughter Zona. Hoping to make a mockery of her, they put Mary Ann on the stand, who unwaveringly told of her daughter’s appearance. Responding to attacks on her character, Mary Jane replied that she was not a superstitious woman, a good Christian, and that Zona’s appearance was not a dream. According to the Greenbrier Independent, which printed the entire transcript, an event unheard of at the time:

The following very remarkable testimony was given by Mrs. Heaster on the pending trial of E. S. Shue for the murder of his wife, her daughter, and led to the inquest and post mortem examination, which resulted in Shue’s arrest and trial. It was brought out by counsel for the accused:

Question. – I have heard that you had some dream or vision which led to this post mortem examination?

Answer. – They saw enough theirselves without me telling them. It was no dream – she came back and told me that he was mad that she didn’t have no meat cooked for supper. But she said she had plenty, and said that she had butter and apple-butter, apples and named over two or three kinds of jellies, pears and cherries and raspberry jelly, and she says I had plenty; and she says don’t you think that he was mad and just took down all my nice things and packed them away and just ruined them. And she told me where I could look down back of Aunt Martha Jones’, in the meadow, in a rocky place; that I could look in a cellar behind some loose plank and see. It was a square log house, and it was hewed up to the square, and she said for me to look right at the right-hand side of the door as you go in and at the right-hand corner as you go in. Well, I saw the place just exactly as she told me, and I saw blood right there where she told me; and she told me something about that meat every night she came, just as she did the first night. She cames [sic] four times, and four nights; but the second night she told me that her neck was squeezed off at the first joint and it was just as she told me.

Q. – Now, Mrs. Heaster, this sad affair was very particularly impressed upon your mind, and there was not a moment during your waking hours that you did not dwell upon it?

A. – No, sir; and there is not yet, either.

Q. – And was this not a dream founded upon your distressed condition of mind?

A. – No, sir. It was no dream, for I was as wide awake as I ever was.

Q. – Then if not a dream or dreams, what do you call it?

A. – I prayed to the Lord that she might come back and tell me what had happened; and I prayed that she might come herself and tell on him.

Q. – Do you think that you actually saw her in flesh and blood?

A. – Yes, sir, I do. I told them the very dress that she was killed in, and when she went to leave me she turned her head completely around and looked at me like she wanted me to know all about it. And the very next time she came back to me she told me all about it. The first time she came, she seemed that she did not want to tell me as much about it as she did afterwards. The last night she was there she told me that she did everything she could do, and I am satisfied that she did do all that, too.

Q. – Now, Mrs. Heaster, don’t you know that these visions, as you term them or describe them, were nothing more or less than four dreams founded upon your distress?

A. – No, I don’t know it. The Lord sent her to me to tell it. I was the only friend that she knew she could tell and put any confidence it; I was the nearest one to her. He gave me a ring that he pretended she wanted me to have; but I don’t know what dead woman he might have taken it off of. I wanted her own ring and he would not let me have it.

Q. – Mrs. Heaster, are you positively sure that these are not four dreams?

A. – Yes, sir. It was not a dream. I don’t dream when I am wide awake, to be sure; and I know I saw her right there with me.

Q. – Are you not considerably superstitious?

A. – No, sir, I’m not. I was never that way before, and am not now.

Q. – Do you believe the scriptures?

A. – Yes, sir. I have no reason not to believe it.

Q. – And do you believe the scriptures contain the words of God and his Son?

A. – Yes, sir, I do. Don’t you believe it?

Q. – Now, I would like if I could, to get you to say that these were four dreams and not four visions or appearances of your daughter in flesh and blood?

A. – I am not going to say that; for I am not going to lie.

Q. – Then you insist that she actually appeared in flesh and blood to you upon four different occasions?

A. – Yes, sir.

Q. – Did she not have any other conversation with you other than upon the matter of her death?

A. – Yes, sir, some other little things. Some things I have forgotten – just a few words. I just wanted the particulars about her death, and I got them.

Q. – When she came did you touch her?

A. – Yes, sir. I got up on my elbows and reached out a little further, as I wanted to see if people came in their coffins, and I sat up and leaned on my elbow and there was light in the house. It was not a lamp light. I wanted to see if there was a coffin, but there was not. She was just like she was when she left this world. It was just after I went to bed, and I wanted her to come and talk to me, and she did. This was before the inquest and I told my neighbors. They said she was exactly as I told them she was.

Q. – Had you ever seen the premises where your daughter lived?

A. – No, sir, I had not; but I found them just exactly as she told me it was, and I never laid eyes on that house until since her death. She told me this before I knew anything of the buildings at all.

Q. – How long was it after this when you had these interviews with your daughter until you did see buildings?

A. – It was a month or more after the examination. It has been a little over a month since I saw her.

RE-CROSS EXAMINATION.

Q. – You said your daughter told you that down by the fence in a rocky place you would find some things?

A. – She said for me to look there. She didn’t say I would find some things, but for me to look there.

Q. – Did she tell you what to look for?

A. – No, she did not. I was so glad so [sic] see her I forgot to ask her.

Q. – Have you ever examined that place since?

A. – Yes, sir. We looked at the fence a little but didn’t find anything.

On the same day, the Greenbrier Independent printed the following article:

The State vs. E. S. Shue

The evidence in this case was concluded yesterday morning and the argument begun in the afternoon, after the instructions had been given to the jury by the Court.

There was no witness to the crime charged against Shue and the State rests its case for a conviction wholly on the circumstances connecting the accused with the murder charged. The evidence of the medical experts, Dr. Knapp and others, who conducted the post mortem examination, makes it quite clear that Mrs. Shue did not commit suicide. The post mortem made it clear that her neck had been dislocated, but there was no mark upon her person or other evidence to show that she had subjected herself to any sort of violence. Her body was found by the negro boy, sent to the house by Shue, about 11 o’clock in the morning, and when Dr. Knapp reached the house, an hour or two later, it was quite cold and he was satisfied that she was then dead, though he resorted, without effect, to various means of resuscitation.

We mention the following, among other circumstances relied upon by the State to show that Shue killed his wife by dislocating her neck by some means the evidence does not disclose; that he was the only person seen about or known to have been at the house that morning prior to the time when his wife was found dead; that he requested Dr. Knapp, after he had resorted to the usual means of resuscitation, to make no further examination of the body; that he assisted in dressing the body and in doing so put around the neck a high collar and a large veil several times folded and tied in a large bow under the chin; that the head was observed by a number of the witnesses to be very loose upon the neck and would drop from side to side when not supported; that Shue sent the negro boy to the house to gather the eggs, instructing him to go into the house, find his wife and see if she wanted anything; that in his conversation and conduct, after his wife’s death, he seemed in good spirits, and showed no proper appreciation of the loss he had sustained; that when summoned to the inquest and post mortem out at Sewell he said to various witnesses that he knew he would come back under arrest; that in speaking to a number of witnesses on the subject he always said he knew that they could not prove that he did the killing, &c. So the connection of the accused with the crime depends entirely upon the strength of the circumstantial evidence introduced by the State.

Shue was on the stand all Tuesday afternoon. He was given free rein and talked at great length; was very minute and particular in describing unimportant incidents; denied pretty much everything said by other witnesses; said the prosecution was all spite work; entered a positive denial of the charge against him; vehemently protested his innocence, calling God to witness; admitted that he had served a term in the pen; declared that he dearly loved his wife, and appealed to the jury to look into his face and then say if he was guilty. His testimony, manner, &c., made an unfavorable impression on the spectators.

There is no middle ground for the jury to take. The verdict inevitably and logically, must be for murder in the first degree or for an acquittal.

On July 8, 1987, the Greenbrier Independent published the verdict:

Shue Convicted of Murder

After an elaborate argument of the evidence by Messrs. Gilmer and Preston for the State and Jas. P. D. Gardner, colored, and Dr. Rucker for the accused, the case of the State vs. E. S. (“Trout”) Shue was given to the jury last Thursday afternoon, and the jury, after being out one hour and ten minutes, returned into Court with a verdict of murder in the first degree, as charged in the indictment, but recommending that the accused be punished by imprisonment, which means, under the law, that he be confined in the penitentiary for the term of his natural life. Dr. Rucker entered a motion for a new trial, but this was withdrawn the next morning, and Shue will be duly sentenced before the Court adjourns. Though the evidence was entirely circumstantial, the verdict meets general approval, as all who heard the evidence are satisfied of the prisoner’s guilt. After the murder Shue had every opportunity to make his escape, as four weeks elapsed before he was arrested and put in jail. The fact that he did not do so was explained by Mr. Gilmer, in his argument, by showing that Shue was all the time laboring under the impression that he could not be convicted on circumstantial evidence, and felt secure in knowing that there was no witness but himself, to the crime. This Mr. Gilmer argued, showed not a lack of sense, but information, and accounts for Shue’s presence at the inquest and his oft repeated remark that they could not show he did it.

Taking the verdict of the jury as ascertaining the truth, then we must conclude that Shue deliberately broke his wife’s neck – probably with his strong hands – and with no other motive than to be rid of her that he might get another more to his liking. And, if so, his crime is one of the most horrible, cruel and revolting ever known in the history of this county.

Mr. Preston deserves the thanks of the people for his diligence in hunting up the evidence and for his admirable management of the case before the jury.

Trout Shue was given a life sentence at Moundsville Penitentiary, where he died three years later.
