Don’t Overwhelm

I was handling a class, and I asked them to do a SWOT analysis. Interestingly, most of the student’s weakness was struggling with consistency. But it quickly became apparent that it was not only a problem for students but for me as well.

I will start things with gusto only to find myself overwhelmed with other work that I won’t bother to continue. But this is the problem.

Making even a small excuse can ruin the streak.

It is better to run a lap than do 10 laps once a week. Making excuses is not going to get us anywhere. It is time to take these simple habits and follow them religiously.

I have been consistent with only a few things, but they have helped me tremendously in my life.

If I could only make those efforts in all areas of my life, I am sure it would serve me well.

It is time to stop making plans and start taking massive action.

📢 One way is convergent thinking.

Convergent thinking is a type of thinking that focuses on coming up with a single, well-established answer to a problem. It is oriented towards deriving the single best, or most often correct, answer to a question.

📢 The other way is Divergent thinking.

Divergent thinking is a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions. It typically occurs in a spontaneous, free-flowing, “non-linear” manner, such that many ideas are generated in an emergent cognitive fashion.

🌤 Most of us only think in a converging way because it easy, but in business, it is better to think in a divergent way. That way, we will have more chances to win.

Plan a plan with a plan

It is ironicSometimes we are all caught up with a lot of work So in order to complete the work, we tend to planSpending so much time planning is not an effective way of achieving goals. Plan with a timer, then get going. The goal should be to accomplish Not to have a wonderful calendar plan, but to get tasks completed.#planning #startup # Business.

Why do we feel like not working?

I was listening to Deep Questions by Cal Newport. He was discussing something called Deep Procrastination.
After the pandemic, students, teachers, and virtually everyone else don’t feel like working.
Students procrastinate so much that they have become apathetic. Even sitting for 1.5 hours on an exam is a daunting task for them.
Teachers feel overwhelmed, and all the file work and other useless academic rituals feel burdensome. Even teachers have this mindset of quitting because they are expected to complete some extra work. There it is again, that deep procrastination.
To make things worse, here comes A.I. Even a simple mental strain is too much.

I tackle multiple projects, and even I am plagued by this deep procrastination.  So I tried out a bunch of things.
First, I once again listened to Brian Tracy’s Time Management.
Even though I know all these techniques, I try to use them when I plan out my day.
In short:
1) Plan the night before
2) Prioritise using ABCDE method
3) I did the pomodoro method of work.

First 20 minutes Work
Break, read a chapter , hydrate
Second 40 minutes Work
Break, read a chapter, hydrate, walk around a bit
Third 60 minutes work
Break, read a chapter, hydrate, walk around a bit, and play a game.
Note: I read something thrilling during work… I am really looking forward to this next chapter, so I rush through my work. You can substitute breaks with your favourite hobby. I read so I can get away from staring at the screen.
This is a simple way I try to overcome deep procrastination.

Time Management tips for writers.

First, create a schedule. It is always helpful to know what the day will look like for a writer. Without a proper schedule, it will be difficult to get any job done.

Writing a thesis or a novel can be a daunting task. Generally, long projects take a long time to complete. But a simple, doable daily word count can actually help you achieve your goal.

In 2 months he would have achieved 60,000 words

In another two months, a better draft could be created.

Thus, in six months, a book would be ready.

Set a feasible goal, not something that is truly unattainable, but something that is attainable.

IV. Eliminate Distractions

Time is always available, but as a writer, distractions can sap away all the energy in the world.

Switch off your phone.

Single-mindedly try to work towards your writing goal.

V. Take Breaks

Shorts breaks are necessary. I usually write for 20 minutes then read a chapter, then once again repeat this process. I try to move around without watching the screen for 5 minutes.

Taking breaks can free up the mind, and you can write more during this time.

VI. Use Productivity Tools

I use Notion, Logseq for notetaking.

For writing, I use Word or Google Docs.

For editing, I prefer to use Quillbot.

They do help me in my writing journey.

VII. Practise Self

Finally, writing is an important part of your life, but you should also care for your health. Sleep for around 7-8 hours.

Work out.

Finally, appreciate yourself whenever you hit those tiny writing goals.

Idealised vision and Reality

If you follow influencers on social media, you will surely come across their success stories, how much they earn, and what their life looks like.

This is inspiring.

The next day, you promise to follow all the tips they give you. But then life happens.

The idealised vision comes from a mature tree that has actually forgotten the initial labour by now. But as a seed, just following the steps will not be enough. Initially, you must face reality. The ideal life does not exist yet; you will not have an entire day to plan ahead. You will be struggling.

So remember, reality will be harsh, but the ideal vision can be reached if you have the grit to achieve it. Otherwise, I am sorry to say that all the effort will be simply in vain.

As C.S. Lewis observed, this kind of disappointment “occurs on the threshold of every human endeavor. It occurs when the boy who has been enchanted . . . by Stories of the Odyssey buckles down to really learning Greek. It occurs when lovers have got married and begin the real task of learning to live together. In every department of life it marks the transition from dreaming aspiration to laborious doing.”
