I wrote 1 poem every day for 150 days.

I wrote 1 poem every day for 150 days.

Writing poetry is tricky.

You need to be happy, or depressed.

But then, for a prolonged period, I was sad.

So, I wrote every day for 100 days straight.

It acted as therapy for me.

But then I realised it had become a habit.

I continued to write. I continued with other topics.

I wrote 100 lamentations.

Then I started to write 150 Psalms (I have completed 52 Psalms till date)

Planning for 365 days of motivating poetry after Psalms.

The funny thing is that those 100 lamentations are coming out as a book in two weeks. (Don’t forget to get it.)

What I realised was this:

When done over a long period of time, a small, simple habit can have a big impact.

Instead of trying to do so many things, focus on small, incremental habits.

They can take you a long way.

A teacher should always evolve

They should never say that this is the way I have been doing all these years

They should continuously improve themselves so they can excel further:

Follow these 3 ideas to be a better teacher.

Note: Teacher here means in schools, colleges, and also in companies.

1) Shine as a teacher.

Teachers talk a lot, but they usually don’t do whatever they are advising. In school I had this cool and hip sir with wavy hair.

He used to lecture us not to smoke. But every afternoon in his stroll to his house for lunch, he had a nice little puff.

Teachers should walk the talk.

2) Develop your students

Good teachers will introduce the students to the greats. Students must be challenged, they must be allowed to meet unique people. Their unique talent must be given space for exploration.

3) Inspire your kids, don’t put your own limitation on them

Teachers must always be faithful. They must never talk negatively about the future. Teachers must never think their kids might not succeed. They should never put their own inability on the student. Let them boldly venture forth.

PS: I remember teachers who hit me badly, but I also remember those exceptionally kind teachers more.

5 important skills that every college student needs.

My students think college is simply about the degree. Oh boy how wrong could they be.

Here are 5 skills you need to improve.

1. Adaptability:

-You need to adapt to new situations, technologies, and environments is crucial for success.

2. Critical Thinking:

-College isn’t just about memorizing facts, it’s about thinking critically and analyzing information.

This skill will help you navigate the complexities of the world.

3. Communication:

-You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you can’t communicate effectively, it’s useless. Develop your communication skills to succeed in college and beyond.

4. Time Management:

-College is a juggling act of classes, extracurriculars, and social life. Learning how to manage your time effectively is key to staying on top of everything.

5. Networking:

– It’s not just what you know, but who you know. Building a strong network of connections can open up opportunities for internships, jobs, and collaborations.

Are you ready to equip yourself with these essential skills for success? Start by incorporating one of these skills into your daily routine this week and track your progress. Remember, small steps lead to big results! #SkillBuilding #FutureReady

How do you approach time?

Time is a ruthlessly fellow.

He does not care for anyone.

He cannot be bribed.

He cannot be cajoled

He cannot be constrained

The relationship we have with him can make all the difference.

I am pretty sure I would have been just like 90% of people around me who chat, play, and gossip all too often. They scroll and scroll. Don’t have a single goal.

Act like they have all the time in the world.

( I don’t judge them now, I know my circumstance, and my life is totally different now, and my relationship with time has changed over the years).

I started to realize the importance of time when my dad died. I remember him telling a couple of times he wanted to start some hotel of his own.

Then all of a sudden cancer visited him, and death took him away. I realised nothing is certain in life, if you want to do something in life do it as quickly as possible.

Many of my colleagues and friends might think why is he always working and busy.

The answer: I don’t have time. I have too many things to do. Many stories to tell, places to visit, dreams to achieve. I cannot spend an afternoon talking about bygone days.

I cannot stand people planning, and planning, and getting nothing done. Let them judge, if death comes for me tomorrow, I would not have much regrets.

But one can approach time in different ways:

1) 100 year old self.

In the book Someday is Today, Mathew Dicks talks about having regular conversations with your 100 year old self. Will my 100 year old self like this gossip. Will my 100 year old self regret this fight. Will my 100 years old regret not taking this risk.

This changes the perspective.

I don’t want my 100 year old self to have regrets. I can try and fail, but I should not have regrets that I didn’t. This approach can be expanded into the Cosmic Prespective as well.

The premise is the same but the question to be asked is what will this decision matter in the grand scheme of the universe?

2) Simultaneous Lifetimes:

What if every decision we make is affecting our parallel universe self. Each and every decision we make can take us to different paths.

This is the reason we have to sometimes break out of routines and do crazy stuff for we can never tell what might happen to us.

3) The Eternal Now

This is the most powerful method.

Worry not about the past.

Worry not about the future.

Worry is borrowing from the future and we all know if we borrow interest must be paid.

The Eternal now is to live intensely in the present. Give the day the best short.

Wake up play the game of life hard, and go to bed and start again.

But like many things in life Time too must be approached with flexibility.

When you are with your kids use the eternal now method.

When you wasting time use the 100 year old method

When you are thinking of risks, use the simultaneous lifetime method.

The trick:

Make time your friend. He will reward you with a legacy if you treat him well.

The Last E-Mail by Ronald Hadrian

On my father’s 21st death anniversary, I was rummaging through some old stuff in the attic. My wife had gone on for a conference, and my children were promptly packed and sent to my in-laws’ house. I was enjoying a quiet afternoon with some hot coffee and watching the torrential rain outside, thinking about my dad.

Twenty years ago, my dad died, and over the years, his memory had faded. Only at important family events his memory lingered, with some sighing among family members about his untimely death. Even his anniversary had become another passing day. Promising myself to be resourceful, I started to clean the attic, imagining how my wife would be surprised.

My motivation dwindled as I saw the amount of work it would take to clean the god-forsaken room. I decided to waste time reading old editions of Readers Digest, but then I noticed an old green trunk. I knew my old journals and books were there, and I became curious to waste my time once again with them. I somehow got the trunk opened, and to my surprise, my journals were missing except for an old piece of paper with some sketching of a house plan. I wondered about the handwriting. They were clear, crisp, and educated, unlike mine, which was sloppy. I searched the journals and books, and all of a sudden I came across an old note from my dad. There was a user name and password scribbled on it.

I sat there and wondered for a few minutes. I was intrigued, as I did not really know my father much. The only way I communicated with him was through my mother, and I did not have deep father-son conversations with him. He didn’t allow such things, and he didn’t have time. The curiosity got the better of me—what was this man like? What was his ambition? What did he think about me?

I pondered and made my way to the computer. The e-mail service he used would probably not be working now, but still, I logged in, and to my surprise, there were not many mails. Newsletters did not exist back then. There were some official emails with bad grammar and around 4 unread mails. It was all from Ms. Lizzy. I read them, but nothing made sense; my dad probably deleted the old ones.

The last e-mail said,

“You have to complete it; otherwise, she would not survive. Please, please, please come, Fabian.”

Who was this lady who called my dad with such an air of authority? Did dad have secrets? I went through the mail and logged out. That night, I was troubled. The last email haunted me. What did the women want? Why was she begging?

The next day, I woke up early and quickly got the phone number using the email address of this Lizzy. I was a tech savy by the way.

“Hello, can I speak to Ms. Lizzy?”

“Who is this?” asked a grumpy voice.

“This is Freddy; I think my dad used to know Ms. Lizzy.”

“No, madam is not in good health.”

“Please, I have to ask her just one question.”

“No,” the line went blank.

I struggled a little, but I found her address. She was in the hills in a bungalow named “Little Wuthering Heights”. The next weekend, after telling my wife that I was going on a road trip with my friends, I went to see Ms. Lizzy. I was sure I was going to uncover a scandal, and I didn’t want my wife to know my family’s dirty little secret.

I reached the place on a fine, sunny day. The smell of roses and the silent breeze welcomed me to the hills. The gate was locked, and I had to honk three times before the watchman slowly emerged from the bushes. He looked suspiciously. “We are not interested in buying anything,” he grumbled.

“No, I want to meet Ms. Lizzy,” I replied.

He was taken aback. He stood there for a minute, pondering a reply.

“Wait here,” he finally said, and he walked into an old bungalow that looked hauntingly old.

The wait seemed forever. I imagined my dad coming to this bungalow in all its glory. The place seemed peculiar and lonely. The watchman came out, calling me in. I entered in and saw the old wallpaper peeling and the strong stink of ammonia drifting across the sitting room. After waiting there for ten minutes, an old grandmother entered, probably in her 80s, her neck wobbling without strength. The old lady strained to see my face, but once she saw me, her face lit up.

“Finally, you have come,” she smiled, her false teeth dangling inside her mouth.

“Do you know me?” I asked.

“Fabian, how can I forget your face?” She sat down on an old, broken sofa. “But I am afraid you have come a little late; only last year we buried her.”

I didn’t understand what she was saying. “I think you are mistaken; Fabian was my dad, and he died 21 years ago.”

The old lady’s face went blank. She did not speak for another 10 minutes. The watchman looked worried. He kept glancing at me angrily.

“I saw your last email,” I muttered. “You were desperately asking for help.”

“I was indeed,” she asked the watchman to make her sit out in the sun.

I patiently waited, wanting to know more. Who was this lady anyway? Did my mother know about her?

“Your father, for a short period, was a pastor,” she coughed.

I coughed too. I never knew my dad was a pastor.

“My daughter was, you know, occupied,” she hesitated.

“Occupied?”

“By some demons.”

“Demons?”

“Yes, so your dad came to exorcise her with his church friends.”

“Then what happened?” I was utterly curious by now.

“It wouldn’t leave; your father said the demon was too strong… He said he would come back.”

Silence.

“He never came back, did he?” I swallowed.

“No, for months I called him. He never came.”

I got up and stood under the tree. “I think he wanted to come back, but he died.”

“He gave us so much hope.”

Silence.

“And all these years your daughter suffered?”

“No, after a month since my last email to your father, she returned to normalcy. “

I was glad to hear that. I would have felt guilty if the girl had suffered all her life. I left them and I was puzzled and excited that I learned something new about my father. As I drove back home, the rain once again started pouring, and the road was hardly visible. I reached home by midnight, and my wife had come back without the children.

“Where did you go?” She asked sleepily.

“Long story; let me tell you tomorrow,” I pulled her closer.

Then her voice changed, and she whispered, “Shall I tell you why I left that little girl and took your dad?”.

Day +1= Life

“As you live your days, so craft your life”- Robin Sharma.

Life can become overwhelming at times, the one solution I have found is to focus on just the day. By this you have a sense of having control over your life and emotions.

Instead of dealing with plethora of thoughts, focusing on the day and achieving critical stuff can have a great impact on our lives.

The hero this week Listened, read and tried some important stuff, and he loves to share his new found knowledge with you.

Listen and Learn:

Make 2024 Your Best Year: Ditch The Hustle Culture & Achieve Your Dreams | Ali Abdaal & Cal Newport – YouTube

I have been following Ali Abdaal for over three years now. I bought his recently published book, and I enjoyed this talk with Cal.

Some highlights:

The three energizers of feel-good productivity: play, power, and people

How play is about having a light and curious attitude towards work

How power is about having autonomy and progress in what you do

How people is about connecting and collaborating with others

Watch it to learn more about productivity.

Communication:

Has anyone told you some really mean things and then add a lame “Oh I was just joking?” But you are upset. Then you can reply in these three ways:

-Then be funnier

(This will imply that they lack humour)

-I’m surprised by that

( They won’t know what to say to you)

-It does not sound like a joke; it sounds like an issue.

(hint: keep your knuckles clenched)

Worthy Reading:

I am reading The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris.

If I was 1% of Teddy Roosevelt I would achieve so many things. This is for ambitious people. This book is a must for people who want to explore a life well lived.

Warning: He will make you guilty if you are living a mediocre life.

Popular Post:

I talked about going from a familiar person to a trustworthy person.

What I learnt this week?

When everything is a mess, then have a reset day:

How to go about it?

1) Have a phone fast for half a day

2) Journal about your future days.

3) Read a motivational book or movie or listen to songs

4) Don’t do anything.

Before you know it you will get back to your routine.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟱 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳ǖ

𝟭) 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀? 𝗡𝗼. 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

-Most of us have this equation wrong. Usually happy people deal with failures in a positive way.

-The by product of being happy is success. Don’t trust me. Here is a quote from Shawn Achor the author of happiness advantage:

𝘐𝘧 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺.

𝟮) 𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗔𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀

-When faced with as problem, it is important to shift our mindset from perceiving it as a threat to viewing it as a challenge.

-This shift in perspective allows us to approach the problem with a sense of curiosity and optimism, rather than fear and anxiety.

𝟯) 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘀 𝗠𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘀 𝗠𝘂𝗰𝗵

-When we are faced with double the workload, it is crucial to recognize the importance of having a support system.

-In times of increased pressure and demands, having friends and colleagues to lean on can make all the difference.

-They can provide valuable insights, share the workload, and offer emotional support when needed.

𝟰) 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗔 “𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂” 𝗘𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

-One simple yet powerful habit to adopt during times of increased workload is to send a “thank you” email every morning.

-This small gesture not only shows appreciation for the efforts of others but also serves as a reminder to ourselves of the support system we have in place.

𝟱) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬-𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲

-Another helpful strategy for managing increased pressure is to implement the 20-second rule.

-This rule involves taking just 20 seconds to start a task or activity that you have been putting off.

-By breaking the inertia and getting started, you can overcome procrastination and build momentum towards accomplishing your goals.
