Music Monday! This Day In 2005
Why am I going back to this day in 2005 for my Music Monday? Because I’m celebrating the 12th anniversary of #ThePhilFactor! I was going to feature the two songs that were number 1 on this date in the U.S. and in the U.K.. Like, I said, I was going to feature both, but the U.S. no.1 that week was Candy Shop by 50 cent. The video, which you can watch by clicking the link, was… ahem… not exactly family friendly, so I chose to just leave the link for you deviants. Then I lucked into this next g...

Happy 12th Blogiversary To Me
[image error]
I’m taking a break from my regularly scheduled programming to self-indulgently wish myself a Happy 12th Blogiversary. Yes, that’s right, #ThePhilFactor is twelve years old today. I also believe that I am the second longest running blog in world history after this nice woman from New Zealand. We used to follow each other when I was on Blogger. As is my tradition, below this I will re-post my first blog post from April 3rd, 2005.

Hey Scientists! Shut The H#LL Up!
Dear Scientists,
It’s really nice that you have inquisitive minds. Your discoveries and research really benefit man and womankind. Most of the time you guys and gals are just swell. But… there are other times when I’m not so thrilled with you science types.
You know how when you were a kid and you heard strange noises coming from your parents bedroom at night? When you asked about the noises they would tell you that they were just wrestling or having a tickle fight. Sometimes ignorance is bl...

Throwback Thursday! The Commute
Here’s a classic from March 16, 2006

“Another working day has ended
Only the rush hour hell to face
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
Contestants in a suicidal race”
The Police- Synchronicity
I am a commuter. I commute to and from my job each day. I’m not sure what qualifies one as a commuter. Does your drive have to be a certain distance or length of time? Why did someone bother to come up with a name for people who drive to work? Doesn’t that pretty much encompass almost everyone...

Heroin: It’s Not Just for the Dark Alley Anymore
An important story for anyone to read. By Lisa Orchard
Hello everyone. I hope all is well with you. I’m back today and I’m talking about something I learned while doing some research for my story. I was shocked and dismayed to hear this and as a parent I’m sure you will be, too.
I learned that Heroin has reached epidemic proportions in our high schools. This stresses me out because I’ve got two young boys who’ll be entering high school in a few years. So naturally, I asked my sou...

Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Rejected Yankee Candle Scents
[image error]
This idea occurred to me the other day when I was writing Do You smell Like a Sociopath. Yankee Candle has literally 55 different scents that you can buy candles in. They have scents like My Serenity, and Kilimanjaro Stars. Really? How the hell does Yankee Candle know what My Serenity smells like? You know what My serenity smells like? It smells like bourbon and beef jerky. Nobody wants that candle! Kilimanjaro Stars? How can you smell stars? Space is a vacuum. In space nobody can smell you...
