(First posted on #ThePhilFactor Dec. 14, 2013)It’s that time of year again! The time for the year in review Christmas form letter. It’s always touching when our relatives treat us like customers. Typically these form letters take one of two directions. The first and most typical is the ‘What a wonderful year we had!’

Top Ten Tuesday! Ten Reasons to Love the Holidays!

forums.hexus.net
10. Ridiculous Holiday Light Displays:That’s not my house but I wish it was. I love people that take the decorating and lights waaaay too far. I wish we could do it all year long. If there’s a neighborhood that decorates all year long, let me know. I’ll move there.
9.Getting presents:Well duh! Free stuff that we didn’t know we needed or wanted? Yes please! Notice that the presents are only 9th on my list? That’s because I’m not superficial and materialistic.
8. Nutcrackers:I buy...

Interview with 2014 Thurber Prize Winner John Kenney!
What? You don’t know what the Thurber Prize is?!!? For those of you not familiar, “the Thurber Prize for American Humor is the only recognition of the art of humor writing in the United States.” It has been awarded annually since 1997 and I have not yet won it. I know, shocker, right?
I have, however, had the good fortune for the second year in a row to interview the Thurber Prize winner for The Phil Factor. Fortunately for me and you, guys who write funny stuff are usually pretty nice. The gu...

Was Jesus the First Chuck Norris?

See that picture? Can you tell me with absolute certainty that’s not Chuck Norris on the right? I know my title says Jesus was the first Chuck Norris and I know that’s Joseph on the right, but you’ve got to think that the son grew up to look a little like his dad right?

I’ve been doing a little investigating, like in a Dan Brown novel, and I’ve come to the conclusion that that in one form or another humans have always worshipped a Jesus/Ch...

Top Ten Tuesday! Ten Things To Hate About The Holidays!
You’re a mean one Mister Grinch. You really are a heel. You’re as cuddly as a cactus, you’re as charming as an eel, Mister Grinch. You’re a bad banana with a greasy black peel.
Yup, that’s me; King of sarcasm and hater of all things jolly. I’m not saying that there aren’t things to love about the holidays. There are plenty, but c’mon everybody, if we’re truly being honest with ourselves, there are a lot of things to hate about the holidays. Here’s my top ten, and in the spirit of a gift that ke...

A Guide to Twitter for the Non-Twits
“I don’t get Twitter.” I hear it all the time. I understand though because when I first signed up for Twitter I didn’t “get it” either. Twitter just looked like a stream of consciousness non-sequiturs and random nonsense.

The truth is, a lot of what you find on Twitter is nonsense, but it doesn’t have to be. You can tailor Twitter to be what you want it to be. One of my first experiences with Twitter that showed me that it wasn’t just idiotic, unintelligible banter,...

Words With Phil
I used to play words with friends until my buddy Alec and I got thrown off a plane for it. Recently my son got me back into it. I want to play multiple games but I don’t want to play with completely random strangers from the internet. I promise not to cheat with any apps. I’m not spectacular at it. I’m better than some and not as good as others.
If you want to play you can find me asThe Phil Factor of course. Make sure to put the ‘The’ there or you’ll wind up with a cheating imposter.
Have a gr...
