In pictures: Southport during the May Bank Holiday weekend

Mixed and rather chilly weather seemed to keep the town rather quiet this weekend.

Nevertheless, cafe food and entertainment ensured that some people stayed around on Sunday.

As usual, various types of swans were observed on the Marine Lake.
Various transport options were also available.

The message this weekend seems to have been to make the best of the sunshine while it lasts.

Fracking tsar Engel: did she fall or was she pushed?

News has broken that the UK's shale gas commissioner Natascha Engel, a former Labour MP, has resigned.

Ms Engel has claimed her departure was due to her ‘being throttled by rules preventing mini earthquakes.’ She has also stated that the government was "pandering to what we know to be myths and scare stories" about shale gas extraction.

Nevertheless, unlike the domesticated media, some folk are asking one searching question

‘Did she fa...

In Pictures: Easter Sunday crowds at Southport

Crowds of eager visitors invaded Southport seafront today to enjoy the Easter sunshine.

As temperatures rose, many over-heated folks and also a few 'hot dogs' decided to take the plunge at high tide, which was flooding in just after 1.00 pm.

With it being Easter Sunday, any closed shops potentially missed out on a huge amount of passing trade.

Some folk even tried to escape to Ireland but appeared to change their minds once past the pier.

Others took a more leisurely mode of transport to reach th...

The Southport Protest March 2003: The day our town said 'no' to hospital cuts

Some activists, with hidden agendas, have sought to rewrite the facts behind the CARES – organised fight to reinstate our town's lost hospital survives. Therefore, here is some archive material from that stormy period. CARES have saved all data for posterity from that time.

THE SOUTHPORT PROTEST MARCH -  The day that Southport said: NO!
Sunday 17th August 2003
The local population showed the NHS Trust bosses just what they thought about their crazy cuts in our children's an...

Grand National Festival: More horses die for our entertainment

For Southport folk of the older generation, the Grand National still stirs up wonderful memories of the superhorse Red Rum. He was a true champion greatly renowned for his jumping ability. He was also one of the more lucky ones as he never fell in 100 races.

Nevertheless, the Grand National has a more sinister side.

Up for Review suffered a fatal injury in the National on Saturday after it was brought d...

The Devil God’s Best Friend

Prejudice, conformity and fear

Prejudice starts very simply with blind conformity. Conformity towards any rigidly held ideal means that acceptance of others, who fail to share the same ideal recognised by the rest of the flock, is highly unlikely.

Levels of such herd conformity range from rival streets gangs to superpowers threatening each other with total annihilation. Conformity to an ideal is also at times based on insecurity, ignorance and fear; fear of the Black man; fear of the White man...

The Church of David Icke finally exposed!

David Icke’s most foolish blunder to date

Sports commentator turned aspiring mystic, David Icke, always likes to kindle up a nice controversy.

Controversies frequently ensure that people listen and they also get them turning over their hard-earned cash to find out more. Sadly, however, what many folks believe to be the truth is very far from the reality of the situation at hand.

Icke’s latest unwarranted attack on a human rights voluntary group is the latest example. More on this...

Minor psychic start to the day as kids go to school

So there I was driving the kids to school when an odd thought pops into my mind.

“What we need in the boot is a box to put frogs or toads in if we find any on the roads when we are out,” I said to Jasmine at 8.48 am this morning.

On my way back to the village post office, about 25 minutes later, I locked the car and after walking about 20 yards came across two mating frogs in the side of the road.
Without hesitation, I picked them up and rushed back to the vehicle. The only thing I ha...

Flooding at Kew’s Blowick Moss swamp continues

Recent rains proved once again that Kew is not a very sensible place to build a house or buy one.

Kew wildlife habitat loss and recent flooding problems were fully predicted years ago.
SSGB (Save Southport Greenbelt) campaigned, since at least 2005,  against the destruction of wildlife habitat at flood-prone Kew for housing development. SSGB was greeted with some hostile political and developmental scorn yet found support with Phil Rodwell of SGB website. Phil could also see the fooli...

He-men killing Baboon families for ‘fun’ and profit with high-power rifles

I am not quite sure why these high-powered, gun-toting  ‘heroes’ think they need to exterminate a species that is just trying to live out its life in wild places…

Personally, I see no veneration or respect for nature in this cash-fuelled, sadistic, eco-massacre…
Humans and baboons are closely related, yet the baboons clearly have more compassion and common-sense that many humans.
