Homemade English Ash and Elderberry pipe

At last, it’s finished.

This has been an on and off kind of project for a few weeks but lots of fun. I shall let the photos and video explain it.
This first video (in the second half of the clip) shows the Ash pipe staining process after a look at a few vintage briars I played with.

The pipe is almost a churchwarden, with a total length of 7 inches.

Looks ok - but the real test will be to see how it smokes...

And here is the English Ash pipe in action - job's sorted...

Right, more soon chaps on th...

In Pictures: Ainsdale Village Gala Fun Day, 1 June 2019

Ainsdale’s Gala Fun Day got off to a rather damp start, with minor showers of rain.

It was a pity that the sunshine struggled to get through. Nevertheless, well done to all the organisers of this popular Ainsdale event.

Hardcastle briar burnout repair

It’s quite a rare thing but burnout can occur at times. Vintage pipes, like the ones I collect, may have experienced a hard life of abuse so they can fail now and then. Recently, this happened to a large old Hardcastle briar of mine.

I was not ready however to chuck away such a lovely old pipe, so I set about crafting a working repair. I shall let the images tell the story…

The original damage to the Hardcastle. Many folks would throw such a pipe away, but I had other plans.

Drastic yes - but ca...

Nanny State persecution killing democracy & free speech

Freedom of opinion and expression are enshrined within the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Our rights and the democratic process are being demolished on a daily basis by the biased UK Establishment.

Here is the latest classic example...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNkAi0hgJYw

This appalling situation is been perfectly highlighted, via the ongoing persecution, UK press misinformation campaign and social media blanket ban against Tommy Robinson. A large part of this...

Merseyrail bans Morrissey posters after concern from alleged passenger

Freedom of opinion is now further under threat, it seems, as Merseyrail suddenly censors democratic liberties on their network.

Posters promoting Morrissey's latest album have been removed from railway stations after an alleged commuter complained. Adverts for the new album by the former Smiths singer have been torn down on the Merseyrail network. Morrissey has previously articulated support for the greatly-disparaged Independent MEP candidate, Tommy Robinson.

Mr Robinson has nevertheless regul...

Facing down the Tommy Haters and exposing some dangerous agendas - UPDATED

Apparently, pro-censorship/anti-democracy haters have little to offer except more hate and threats when finally confronted by the target of their inner scorn.

What the lying anti-democratic UK press will NOT show you.

Tommy Robinson takes on the yelling anti-democracy extremists, face-to-face. Lampooning mindless bigots who think violence is 'acceptable' is always more precious than gold. They had the opportunity to explain their ill-considered hate yet their only response was to bellow out mor...

The indoctrinated Death of Democracy in the UK

Oldham disturbance exposes dormant, anti-democratic, fundamentalism waiting to explode in the UK.
Do we live in a free democracy or a stifling dictatorship controlled by media lies, where information is carefully censored and twisted, with the blessings of our corrupt politicians, before being made public?

The latest religious fundamentalist attack on a peaceful political campaign rally has illustrated the abject failure of the UK media and our politicians.

Our UK police force, filmed here by...

The Star of Hope wreck

She was outbound from North Carolina to Liverpool in January 1883. Fortune was sadly not with the Star of Hope as she ran into a force 10 gale that forced the crew to abandon ship. The Star was wrecked off the Sefton coastline, between Ainsdale and Formby Point.

Today, she is known to vanish then show herself again as the Irish Sea tides and shifting sands dictate.

Strangely, not far from Wilmington USA lies a town called Southport. How ironic that she met her doom close to another Southport a...

Broken Vintage Masta Pipe Fix

I recently acquired a job lot of vintage pipes and some were in better condition than others. One attractive little briar that I put to one side as a possible ‘chuck-out’ was a London - made Masta pipe. It was in a bad way with broken mouthpiece and as yellow as mustard, thanks to years of oxidization. A bleach bath soon restored the original black finish, yet the damage remained.

Nevertheless, not being one to admit defeat lightly, I set about trying to fix the badly damaged mouthpiece. I use...
