OSCARS 2013
The Oscars... The greatest award show!
And thanks to my ASTRO PVR, I recorded the live show and watched it as a delayed live so I could get rid of all the advertisements. Initially I was forwarding the ads alone then I ended up forwarding the speeches of the oscar winners and gladly I did the same for the host Seth MacFarlene!
Seth, to me was a complete disgrace to an award so great as the Oscars!
His certainly had no class in his choice of jokes and he hosted it as if it were one of his stand up show at a run down bar in some dark alley!
Doesn’t anyone look carefully into the script the host should be presenting or is that the standards of the Academy Awards now?
He sucked big time ok!
Well, back to the Oscars ignoring Seth of course, I’m happy Anne Hathaway got the Best Supporting Actress, she earned it, but sadly the Prada dress she wore which looked best from the back alone, was nothing close to what she deserved.
I’m so proud Life of Pi took home 4 awards and Ang Lee received the best director award (however he shouldn’t have said - "I have no time for all these people now!” but since the movie was fabulous, I’ll excuse you for the butterfly in your tummy that got out of your mouth when you said that!).
I need to watch that movie Silver Lining Playbook. Was it good? I mean did Jennifer Lawrence really deserved an Oscar for it? and oh, did Argo deserve the award for best picture? Seriously?
OSCARS - Expect the unexpected, now that sounds like a better tag line for the show, don’t you think?
And now, my favourite part of all - the best dress woman at the Oscars, for me it's most definitely Sandra Bullock! She looked stunning radiant in her sheer black Elie Saab Haute Couture gown, diamond earrings and bejewelled barrette. My God! Superb! She out beats all others!
The best dressed male would be Channing Tatum although I must say Hugh Jackman’s suit which he wore on stage while performing that absolutely fantastic piece from Les Misérables was gorgeous! Did you notice how his jacket had such lovely embroidery?
So what’s it going to be for the Oscars next year?
Hope this year gives us some fabulous movies as it did last year.
Tomorrow will be my first movie for 2013 at the cinemas - Jack The Giant Slayer.
What better way to celebrate my 36th birthday than to watch a movie that premiers on my day to a story I loved as a kid- Jack and The Beanstalk. I like how Belle says it, “What’s up with all the SLAYER SLAYER in all these movie titles lar MA?”
Ha!Ha!

What are you thinking?
As I drove my son to school today, I asked him what he was thinking because he looked so lost in his thoughts. He of course replied, “nothing”, smiled at me and went back into his thoughts again. I decided to throw some suggestions of what I thought he might be thinking about and I got the first one right - “are you thinking about what you want to do today on your XBox?” and he nodded a YES and became shy.I remember my niece sharing this with me once, how when she was a kid only her physical body went to school but her mind was still stuck on the game she left unfinished the night before. She felt a sense of entrapment and decided to be the master of the issue rather than to drown in and loose out on life. Amazingly, she was so young back then, yet she was able to make such a remarkable choice - that explains her flying colours!
Can addiction be beneficial in anyway?
If you're addicted to reading, no one usually complains.
But what happens if you’re addicted to video games? I mean ok, not addicted but stuck on it mentally even if you’re not on it physically?
As a parent, I keep track of the number of hours they spend on their devices as well as the type of games they play (making sure they are age appropriate), but how do I tap into their mind?
I cannot tell them what not to think, they’d just not admit to those thoughts once you start saying those sort of things, but I could engage into a conversation with them as often as I can to help them cognitively while idly sitting in the car on their drives. As soon as you see them drift away in thoughts, start a mental activity with them, a quiz, a “I spy with my little eye” game while driving them to school or extra-activities.
Of course at home, I make sure there is time for homework, time for book reading, art, TV (most definitely!), music and games, but I guess the split moments in between those activities; when they are taking a dump, or showering, you have no control of those thoughts - You just need to let go and let GOD!
Coach them well, plan their timetable, socialise with them and PRAY they grow up to be responsible individuals and once you’ve coached, planned, socialised and prayed you could just switch on that XBox and do some kickboxing yourself! (No one said parenting had to be a HITLER-ized event)

International Book Giving Day
Incidentally, Valentine’s Day is also International Book Giving Day!
So donate or Gift a book to a child today and spread the love of reading and imagination on what is the best day of the year, Valentine’s Day.. The day when LOVE is overwhelmingly felt.. after all, it is this LOVE that allows words to be scripted together into making books that can change the life of a person forever.. International Book Giving Day is a volunteer initiative aimed at increasing a child’s access to and enthusiasm for books. You may participate in celebrating this day by:
1. Giving a book to a friend or a relative
2. Leaving a book in a waiting room or lobby
3. Donating a book at homes, schools or child centres.
Share this day with a child then share it for the world to see so you not only made a kid happy, but you also worked into spreading this message for more children to be happy in the following years to come..

Yes There’s Always Two Side To A Story - The Truth and The Other Truth!
Have you noticed how good news would always have just one side to its story?
The only variation in that version would be the height of grandiosity it holds.
However it almost never seems so when the news is BAD - news on separation, divorce, family fights and misunderstandings etc.
Like most would say - “There’s always 2 sides to a story just as there’s always 2 sides to a coin!” Well I would certainly agree that there are 2 sides to a coin, because both sides make the coin what it is.
How then would 2 sides of the story not be 2 truths to a story? End of the day people say what they need to say to either spread the truth, or make people believe in them no matter what the truth is. It’s after all their perspective to their situation.
But what would you do if you had to stand in the middle of this 2 sides?
Most people would say nothing and do nothing and probably just go missing..
Some would amplify the story and make a 3rd and 4th side..
Some would take your problems and say they are having a hard time dealing with our hard times, and make you wonder since when this is your problem to be constipated with?
Some would listen to you, and help you plot your revenge.
Some would listen to you then blame you for everything even when they know you are not at fault.
How would you choose your side?
Would you chose base on what you believe is right and only the truth or would you choose base on your loyalty to the person telling his/her story?
If you asked me, I would choose base on loyalty and pray that the person whom I’m loyally standing up for is telling me the truth and if I can mend a situation to make it better, I most certainly would.
But if I learn that it is a lie or is being ruthless to the situation, I would not step into their boat cause I’d rather stand at the side and watch them sink alone. In the case where I did stand up for someone and later learn I was made to believe their lies, I know they would pay for their sins not me.
For me there are 2 sides to any story - THE TRUTH and YOUR TRUTH! and which ever version it may be, the one telling the story will forever hold accountable for their own words because in the end you can fool the ones around you but God knows the truth. He knows your motives and plots, he knows the darkest secrets and he knows the depth of your heart, if you are genuine and sincere or if you are a fake. He knows everything and in his own time and way, he will deal with you the way he sees fit for you!
If you do not believe in the existence of God, fret not, “GUILT” will do the job!
So don’t worry if the person you stood up for decided to take you for a ride into believing them.. because that person would soon be in for a ride they won’t ever forget!

THE 2013 BANG!
2013 for me most definitely came with a BANG! No not because the Mayans were wrong with their predictions because I don’t think they predicted anything, rather people of this time were predicting what they would have predicted..This bang was a BANG in MY HEAD and MY HEART!
I lost my most dearest brother Richard to a sudden and unexpected death.I never thought I would see him be put to rest so soon.Never thought I would have to do it at this age!In plain, I honestly never thought about death!I never thought after putting my mum to rest 10 years ago and my dad 14 years ago, I would have to encounter another great loss this soon! Honestly, I never even thought any other death other than the death of my parents could grieve me so deeply until I was proven wrong last 17th of Dec! Bottom line - the death of someone you sincerely love but most of all who sincerely loved you will kill you - full stop! I learnt that. You feel it more when you know you have lost forever the person who loved you with all their heart and never failed to say and show you that.
Richard may have been away for so long but he remained close to me through his emails and messages on the mobile. When I opened a Facebook account, I remember I invited him to join, he was my 2nd FB Friend and that was the best thing back in 2008 as we got to see and experience his life there in Germany, Miami and France through the photos he posted. Finally in 2011, when I decided to buy the one best thing I ever bought for myself - my iPhone! (of course this wouldn’t have been possible if my dearest husband did not graciously fund it for me) and with the iPhone, I felt my brother was just a swipe away.. I didn’t feel the geographical distance between us anymore.. at heart, there wasn’t an issue, he was always close to mine, but this device and its apps which without a doubt was motivated by him to purchase, was the opened door for me to reach to him.
But before all the technology came to light, he was the brother I looked up since the time I could remember my memories. He is the eldest of us 4, and he was my saviour! I know how often I used to get into trouble with my mum for falling into the drain while my Acha was busy at work down at the company store. I used to get the whacking of my life, but if Richard was at home, he always saved my butt! When it came to tooth extractions, my dad was the self made dentist. Can you imagine them telling me that they were going to tie a thread around my teeth and the other end to the door knob and the tooth would fling out at the slamming of that door? Well they didn’t do that obviously but the first end of the thread did go around my tooth and Richard always hugged me and took me to the provision store to get me an ice cream. He, being the electrical electronics engineer, loved gadgets even back then.. and I got my first Monkey and Nuts Game and Watch from him when I was 8years old. Then all the watches he used to grace me with bought from all the countries he had visited from his sailing trips, that was fantastic. Even much earlier than that, I enjoyed his reading of the National Geographic Magazines and Reader’s Digest he invested in monthly, showing me the pictures of all the weird things around the world as he open both my eyes and mind to what was out there.. out of this Berkeley Garden where we lived then. He showed me how to make a radio, he thought me how to write the number 8 the right way, treated me to my first experience of Japanese Food in Bangsar Shopping Center when I was 15, gave us the experience of Laser Discs and video cameras, snapped all the wonderful memories into photographs for us to have as a family, and he always wiped away my tears and laughed the strongest laughs with me. The one thing I will always and strongly remember him for was his believe that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
I miss him terribly! I miss his stories, his jokes, his “Oi”s and his entire being!I really enjoyed all his Whatsapp messages which he would send so frequently and even more persistently while he is out on his field trips and ship building projects.. Photos of his visits around Germany and Europe and the historic significance which he proudly would elaborate in his messages were simply amazing..
Most of all, I will miss his wonderful and admirable nature of seeing the beauty in the most nitty gritty of things.. He admired beauty, beauty in people - children especially (and this is a trait both he and his wife Luz and his kids especially John and Kat all had), beauty in nature, and most of all in architecture.
I have never had anyone admire the specifics in my kids, the way he did. How he looked and admired every bit of their specialness was simply astounding.
He always believed that it was important to leave this world with a BANG!With an impact! With the believe that no one could have done it better than you. Alexander the great died with open hands to say he conquered the world, but he leaves with nothing. I see Richard in that same light.. only I don’t see him leaving with nothing, he left taking our hearts with him.
He was truly an amazing man.. tho a human with mistakes and faults but one that had much goodness to overrule the others. Isn’t that what makes a balance in one’s life? Even the moon has a dark side but like the moon he never failed to shine his light when it was expected of him.
I love him and will always love him.. and I am thankful for God for giving me the chance to experience a brother like him - a true blessing he certainly is. He will always be in my heart, and I will live with the will and strength he has showed me that was not impossible to have in one’s self.
Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him, may his soul rest in peace..AMEN!!!

Have Yourself An App-Merry App-mas!
This morning as I read this advert email in my inbox, I immediately recalled what my husband said a couple of months ago after he got himself a smart phone - “Everything has an APP, one day even to take a ‘dump' you would require an APP!”
No I’m not advertising on behalf of App Store or National Geographic for that matter, but as much as these Apps have their fair share of absolutely fantastic ones to totally disastrous ones, I am no less a fan of Apps especially if the are “FREE!” (Hey! I’m Malaysian, what do you expect?)
Apps, free or purchased with a price can be recommended to others or given as a gift to someone you like.
"Gift an App this Mother’s Day" Father’s Day, Graduation Day, Valentine’s Day, Halloween.. name it, they’ve got it an App appropriate for gifting purposes!
Now the season of CHRISTmas is here and guess what, you can gift an App too!
I wonder if they have an App to connect with JESUS, MARY, JOSEPH, the SHEPHERD BOY, or one of the TREE WISE MEN. Could they have an App to tell you the astronomy of that Northern Star?
Or is it that hideous SMASH SANTA App?
Many depend on Apps to tells us where to go for what we want, how to cook, how to do photography, how and more how.. I’m not being cynical when I say all this, like I mentioned earlier, I am a big fan of FREE APPS and have personally spent a bomb of USDs on Apps as well, but when it comes to CHRISTmas.. I think I’d like the traditional style of gift giving and receiving.. physically taking the time to get something or make something for the ones you love, and if you don’t have the luxury of time to do so, a warm hug on any of those 12 days of Christmas would be simply wonderful enough.
I hate to think that maybe someday in the near future we would have an App to represent or replace us at home for Christmas. Everyone is virtually present, carving an App roasted turkey with an App knife and saying cheers with our App wine glasses made filled with App wine? An App CHRISTmas tree, an App Fire Place, an App House? Or have we already started that App-FULL lifestyle? Virtually being somewhere while you’re physically somewhere else, without any fussing around for flight tickets and annual leave, just send the tablet or pad ahead of the season to your family, gift them an App and tell them to go on Viber or Facetime and I’ll see you there on Christmas! May be this will serve immensely well for those stuck in duty and obligations that require their presence, a matter of life and death, or to connect to their friends and relatives in distant places, video chats are fabulous indeed but sadly even those who can make home, sends themselves home via an APP! Ah.. I know it’s the choice one makes for what they prioritise most.
Anyway, back in the 80s many believed robots were going to rule the world, I’d like to say may be the APPs beat them to it!
So have yourself an App- Merry App-mas and a App-Wonderful 2013!!

Christ for Christmas!
Christ for Christmas!
(By Jennifer F Netto)
Christ is the reason for this season,
not Santa Clause or materialism,
Pray in our hearts for love and peace,
Not Santa and his gifts!
Remember our Saviour born two thousand years ago,
His Mom rode a donkey not in the snow,
He was born in a manger not on a bed,
Not in the North Poll, eating cookies or cakes.
His birth was feared by a selfish King,
Who wanted Him dead more than anything.
Who would think a child could be such a threat?
Many died for Him to live, only to be nailed for us instead!
He rode no sleigh up in the sky,
Nor flown with reindeers he selected.
With ordinary men He called disciples,
He walked through dust to spread his message of love for a world our Father created.
Now this world has seen his death,
Yet choose to forget the very essence of His birth.
We decorate our homes but not our hearts,
With Santa every corner and a tree not grown in dirt.
Is this season a mere reason for indulging in the works of the world?
Where we feed our stomachs with food and booze,
But heed not the sufferers amongst us?
He came to us that one special night,
To save us from our sins, not shop in streets so bright.
With songs of snow, reindeers and sleighs.
Of balls and bells that rang not the night He came.
Fill our hearts with prayer, spreading goodwill and peace.
Placing Christ in the middle as we bring hope with glee.
In that way we would not have mistaken the purpose of His birth,
Which is God's love and forgiveness for mankind that makes Christ not Santa the reason for our Christmas!

Diamonds are forever..
I walked past a gorgeous diamond gold bangle today and as I gazed on the price tag (RM28K) I laughed to myself saying, "I'd rather book myself a Europe Tour than spend that amount on a jewellery." I don't know how far 28K ringgit would take me around the European Continent (not far probably) but I'd much prefer a week of memory to a bangle that may or may not be with me for the rest of my life as I could probably even loose my hand to a thief while wearing one.
The older I grow, the more my fancy for gold is depleting. Is this normal? Could it be because it is getting so ridiculously expensive that I have turned my head away from it? Or is it because I almost got snatched after a tutorial class at Serdang Raya? I think it's all of the above.
Diamond is a girl's best friend which means the 7 diamonds in my engagement ring, which some people had to disregard it as "stupid" because it seems an engagement ring must be of a single diamond alone, is technically my 7 best friends? Those diamonds on my ring will be all the diamond I'm ever going to own and wish to wear safely someday. As for anything else, I would definitely op for a tour, instead of looking at the tour strapped to my wrist. After all diamonds are forever.. So 7 is (forever x 7) for me!

International School - Practice before You Preach!
I had quite an experience visiting an international school today. The administrators had an odd way of promoting the school - they were busy making racial discriminatory statements in efforts to proof how quality and not commercialism is their aim in education.
Anyone would agree that if a person speaks of quality, they should first and foremost show they have it themselves! Reason for saying this is because in their 1000 plus banners around Negeri Sembilan, advertising their soon to open school, they had failed miserably in showing quality information on it to the public.
Here's why:
1. It had a website address that doesn't connect to its server. I had been trying to connect to it for more than 24 hours.
2. It failed to provide the location, other than it being in Seremban.
3. It had 2 contact numbers, one was a mobile number and the other was a land line. I tried the mobile, but no answer, then proceeded to the land line, to which the lady who answered told me, "this is not the school number, but the country club, please call the mobile number." WOW!!!!
4. It has proudly tagged itself as - THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL IN SEREMBAN. Looks like someone did not do their research properly as Kolej Tengku Ja'afar is the first, with 20 years of establishment.
Do you think I'm going to send my kids there when I move out of Klang Valley? Hell NO!!!!!
You don't make racial remarks thinking you can win our wallets! You have failed on all level of being " International" the minute you condemn another race! And you had gladly done so in front of kids who could have potentially become your students. A school needs to show credibility, respect, and authenticity both in advertising and customer service but this school has failed on all levels of such requirements, sadly.
Why do I feel that the more I study about ethics of communication, the more I'm being made to believe that everyone who studied it, has no idea how to practice it!!!

Moving Forward!
Watching the US Presidency Election was quite an anxious task. My TV screen was on CNN and my husband and I tackled questions of what if Romney wins or what if Obama? And when Barack crossed the 270 mark, we just couldn’t stop smiling at each other along with tears rolling down my cheeks.
They've won the next 4 years!! Obama and his democratic team showed towards what America is shifting, uniting as one nation to serve one nation. Moving forward to becoming yet again the model of a great country.
I can’t help but cry to see this win!
I waited eagerly to listen to OBAMA’s victory speech the 2nd time after 4 years and his 25minutes speech was fantastic! 4 years ago, I remember listening to his speech with my husband and now again, no wonder he says he’s usually back on leave and by chance to watch the elections of the United State’s President Live here in Malaysia.
It was dynamic, positively boisterous, and hair raising amazing! To see everyone gathered awaiting their president to present his victory speech was simply awesome that I wished I was there, almost to wishing I was an American myself!!
Don’t get me wrong, I truly love Malaysia and being Malaysian, but sometimes I tend to, like most Malaysians or rather non-Americans to suddenly feel the height of joy and wish I were an American myself. To be in the land where nothing is impossible! Then again, I know that if you put your mind, heart and soul to anything, nothing will be impossible no matter which soil you stand upon.
I wish this dynamic, empathetic, peace loving, INTROVERT (so am I!!!) 44th US President all the best in his 2nd term and may he accomplish all he had set forward for US and their relationship with the world.
