Save of the Game – Avon Gale

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Ethan Kennedy from Avon Gale’s book, Save of the Game. Many of you probably don’t know how much I love hockey since I’ve only included it in the backstory of a few of my characters. But hockey is one of the only sports I love.Hockey is amazing, and there are fantastic players out there who are supporting the LGBTQ community with programs like the You Can Play Projectand the Pride Tape Campaignto show LGBTQ youth they are welcome on the ice.

This is a gr...

Curiosity at the Farmers Market

Jude is a curious environmental engineering student fascinated by the man he knows as Farmers Market Hudson. He’s curious about the commune and living off the grid, he just didn’t realize Kaleidoscope Gardens’ slogan had a deeper meaning.

NakedOrganics-SeriesLogo

“Kaleidoscope Gardens is a place where we celebrate our sexuality by practicing sex out in the open.”

“Sex? In the open?” Jude’s eyes grew comically wide, but someone stepped up to the table, so the conversation had to be momentarily put on hold. Jude stood...

Less Stuff, More Living

I’m a consumer, and I buy things I don’t need. I spent my twenties accumulating because without doing so, I’d be sitting on cardboard boxes rather than furniture today. In my thirties, I was a new parent, and with kids comes more “necessary” equipment. Then the stuff took over. Now I’m in my forties, and I want lessin my life.

Decluttering isa common theme in magazines, blogs, and TV shows and has been for the last decade or more. Watching one episode ofHoarders andyou see how lives can be co...

Common Goals

Community is everything. Some people have a very strong sense of belonging in nearly every community they interact with, while others don’t feel that connectedness at all. As with most things, I’m right in the middle of the road on that sliding scale.

When I was teaching I was very much involved in everything. I couldn’t go buy toilet paper without being stopped in Target by a student or two. My husband took to finishingthe shopping while I chatted.

On the flip side of that, I’ve also lived w...

Clean Laundry

Here’s a little excerpt fromFarm Fresh, Chapter 9. Hudson is showing Jude how to do his laundry with the commune’shand washer. It gets steamy fast while getting clean in the spring house.

“I’m gonna start agitating your clothes,” Jude said as he took the empty basket back into the springhouse. Hudson pinned the last pair of tiny briefs to the line, took several deep breaths, and went back to being tortured by this innocent kid’s blinding sexual appeal.

“Here,” Hudson said, peeling his now-swe...

Revised Cover for Bent Arrow

Last summer I was trying to save cash and decided to try my hand at creating a cover for my bookBent Arrow. I used really rudimentary, but helpful, software found online. But when I went to create the paperback cover, I realized I hadn’t left enough room to allow for the bleed, so I hated my paperbacks!

In the months since, I’ve learned how to do a lot on Gimp, the photo editing software for the poor. It’s free! And it’s quite similar to PhotoShop, which I learned how to use in 2005. I still...
