2016 Rainbow Awards
While I slept for the nearly two days, fighting fever and other unmentionables,Farm Fresh was named as a runner-up in the Rainbow Awards. I’d already learned of the Honorable Mentions, which thrilled me, so to have Farm Fresh named a runner-up in the Contemporary Gay Romance category blew my mind. It’s nota traditional romance, and I never expected it to be given a nod let alone get so far. When I learned of this through the cloud of my fever- and drug-stupor, I was beyond the moon. I now hav...

The Perfect Two
When I set out to writeAnalog to Digital, I wanted to accomplish three things with the story. First, I wanted to write a feel-good short/novella that would leave smiles on readers’ faces. It needed to be sweet. I tend to infuse most of my stories with some degree of angst, but this was intended to be fluff and sweetness.
Second, I wanted to write about an established couple so obviously in love, but who still need to work out their existence beyond their initial HEA. I love writing establishe...

Analog to Digital
is Toby.
For years, Ethan and Toby have said they’ll never marry, despite Ethan’s secret wishes. So leaving sunny California for snowy Minnesota to witness his sister’s vow renewal is not how he wants to spend his Christmas Eve. It’s the second time she’ll say “I do” in less than a year, when Ethan saying those words to Toby even once is hopeless.
In the run-up to the ceremony, Toby seems to avoid Ethan, and doubts grow in his absence....

Simple Comforts
Yesterday at four-ish in the afternoon, just before the sun was thinkingabout getting ready for bed, my husband walked into my office and said, “I started a fire.”
I was seconds away from working, but I’ve had a hell of a time concentrating this last week. It’s been like pulling teeth. Starts and stops. Stalls galore. So I decided to lay my work aside and go sit outside in the beautiful fall air and enjoy a fire in my backyard.
John and I had a great conversation, as we often do around a fire...

Stop Salting Wounds
Since late Tuesday night, much of the United States is in mourning and dealing with their grief in various ways. I’m one of them. And yes, it is grief. Hope for the future, the promises we made to our children about growing up in a safe, inclusive, equal world were ripped from us election night. That was a significant loss.
Words likeshock, numb, lost, and afraiddescribe emotions since election night. I watched the TV with hope and excitement at first. My best friend took a picture of us and w...

Savory Subplots in Lighter Fare
I recently wrote a story with a main character in an enmeshed, codependent relationship with his best friend. Months before the story opens, he begins the long journey to end the unhealthy nature of their relationship while attempting to salvage the friendship. When a new love interest shows up and it gets serious, his friend clings for dear life. He knows he needs to make even more of a change if his new relationship stands a chance.
Sounds like a meaty, angsty book, right? In fact, my story...

Stroke of Luck – October Surprise
I have a surprise book released today!
You’re gonna fall in love with me. You’re already halfway there.
October 2, 2016, a little after noon, I created a new document titled,October Surprise. I had high hopes I’d be able to get this story ready to go before I left for GayRomLit because I wanted something new. After all, it was only supposed to be a 12-15K story. Not too long. Nothing complicated. Just fluff and fun to help celebrate Halloween and to break up the monotony that had been my work...

Guest: Caraway Carter
I’m excited my good friend Caraway Carter is here to talk about his new release 7 With 1 Blow. This is a redemption story and after reading this compelling work, I had a few questions I wanted to ask Caraway. So let’s get to it, shall we?
What made you go down this path?It was originally a prompt from a publisher. You told them you wanted to write a retelling of a fairy tale and they’d send you one. I was given The Giant & The Tailor, which most people have heard as The Brave Little Tailor.
