The Destructive Power of the Wormhole
The Destructive Power of the Wormhole. The scene in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, where the Klingons try to interact with a phenomenon they don’t understand and get destroyed, always stuck with me. The movie isn’t that good, but I liked the idea of the scene and used it as inspiration for this drawing in my third book, The End of the World.

My novel “The End of the World”
In my novel “The End of the World” (available here on Amazon), an oligarchy of old men brings back an ancient evil, hoping it will give them immortality.
I have always loved the work of illustrators like Wally Wood and Al Williamson, and often try to capture some of that steampunk, pulp era vibe.

Escape through the Stargate!
Escape through the Stargate! Wormholes have always fascinated me. I took advanced Calculus and physics in school, and read up on string theory and relativity. Reading about the concept of wormhole interdimensional travel, and seeing the movie Stargate in the ’90s further spurred my interest. I kept the idea in mind and brought it to life in my third book, ”

Amid a chase by heavily armed forces, a teenager escapes through a stargate.
“.
With a dark, cosmic twist, of course. I am a huge Lovecraft fan.

Mysteries buried below ancient ruins!
Mysteries buried below ancient ruins! Combining my love of the ancient evil in the work of Lovecraft, with the alternative historical work of people like Graham Hancock, (Fingerprints of the Gods is excellent), I made the trip down to Mexico to visit Chichen Itza before I started my story. Taking plenty of reference photos, and scaling the ruins (back in the days when they let you climb the ruins), I came back with a feel for the ancient, mysterious, city I would illustrate. As a teenager in the ’90s
As a teenager in the ’90s, I read Frank Miller and Geof Darrow’s Hard Boiled.
That image of a guy’s head being hollowed out by a punch stuck with me. When I had a similar scene in my debut novel, ‘The Black Seas of Infinity“, that scene instantly popped into my head. Using Mike and Paul as references, with Mike holding aloft my M1 Garand, I researched South American guerillas and drew this illustration.

Police Brutality in effect
Police Brutality in effect.

In the apocalypse, local police take it on themselves to execute whomever they choose.
Going through high school in Fairfax, VA in the late 80s, the police constantly harassed me and my fellow punk rockers.
Made-up charges, jail time, and community service, all par for the course.
In my novel, The End of The World, society falls apart, and the police randomly execute whomever they choose.

Horror story Oh The Horror…The Horror
For my horror story Oh The Horror…The Horror, based around Loch Ness, I wanted to delve into the details to portray it as realistically as possible.
on my first trip to Scotland, I took a bus ride up into the highlands and crossed Loch Ness.
The ruins pictured are the remnants of yet another castle ransacked by the British!
Unfortunately, I didn’t see Nessie but I envisioned it as an otherworldly monster in my story!
