Rare drawing I actually had time to complete
Commission for my friend and good customer Jeff. It’s a portrait of his recently deceased son, and he asked for me to render it in my comic book style.

Austin Artist Interview
Way back in 2010, shortly after I had moved to Austin, Texas, the media group “Austin Artists” interviewed me. This was at Kieth Underwood’s shop “The Austin Tattoo Company”, It caught me just as I was starting to do book and magazine covers, and write my own novels-which was actually part of the reason I gave up my nine month wait and crazy tattoo schedule in New York. I was feeling burnt out at just tattooing, and needed to diversify. Check out the video here on my youtube channel

Cthulhu based painting
Further along on this painting. I’m taking a short break while I wait for some colors I special ordered. In the meantime I have a commission to finish up, but I should be back at it in a week or so.

Underwater
No where near as good as it looked, the movie Underwater really let me down. Part of that is my fault, my expectations were a bit too high. It looked like a Lovecraft inspired descent into the deep. Unfortunately it had a thin plot, was shot in a lackluster, almost music video style that did it no favors, and had that horrible girl from Twilight as the lead. Not horrible, but it could have been so much more.

Mandy
After enjoying The Color Out of Space so much, I was recommended this movie and hoped I was in for more of the same. But luck wasn’t with me, this movie was bombastic in all the wrong ways, and just reminded me what a cartoonish character Nicholas Cage can be sometimes.

Further Adventures in Writing
I have a couple of short stories, one for the next Splatterpunk magazine. Both will also be for sale on Amazon as shorts, and available for a limited time as a free download so a few people can see what I’m working on. In these trying times, I’m more interested in putting stuff out and possibly getting new readers than in taxing people’s already tight budgets.

The Color Out Of Space
I was more than a little surprised at how good this film was. Based of an HP Lovecraft story, and directed by Richard Stanley, it actually featured good effects, good acting, and a revitalized Nicolas Cage, who hasn’t been this good since Wild at Heart. Not as strong and climatic as The Mist or The Thing (two very heavily inspired by Lovecraft movies) I never the less enjoyed this more than The Void. It felt like a film that was a little indie, but not made on a shoestring budget.

In these tough times

In that vein, here’s an interview with tattoo artist Roey Pentagram. From Tel Aviv. He was at the Detroit convention, and I managed to get an interview with him. Check it out-

My art over the past 26 years

Since we are all trapped at home and probably spending way too much time on the computer, I thought it might be interesting if I put together a retrospective of my illustration, starting with my first serious comic attempt in 1994 and finishing with one of the pieces I did for my book last year.
