101 of the Skull Session Podcast!

In this historic (for me at least) 101st episode, Aaron and I discussed his new Kickstarter campaign for the latest issue of his dystopian comic, what’s wrong with the major streaming services, and why people should support indie projects. His Kickstarter is http://kck.st/45HkKTxI I boosted him up a bit in the queue so I could help him promote his ongoing Kickstarter campaign! Lottery winner!

Miriam Yael Cervant won the lottery! I’ll mail her an illustration, a signed hardcover, a magnet, a sticker, and a bookmark.
Here is a new little promo video I put together both for her win, and the Black Seas of Infinity Kickstarter campaign!
This is the link if anyone wants to support this project! http://kck.st/4cD9j1x

Kickstarter campaign!

I re-attained the rights, did a massive revision, and relaunched my debut novel. Near and dear to my heart (I used the beginnings of it in a graphic novel pitch to DC Comics) the version I have out now has received almost universal praise. I retooled my website and started a Kickstarter campaign to help with all the marketing costs. I have books, hats, t-shirts, and original art all up for grabs. All or nothing. Going for broke! Help this indie project become a reality! #danhenk, #deadguyllc, #theblackseasofinfinity, #kickstarter, #cosmichorror,http://kck.st/4cD9j1x

Indie Comics for days!

Back in the days when indie comics were blowing up after the trendsetting debut of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I first envisioned debuting The Black Seas of Infinity as a graphic novel. Permuted Press and Kitchen Sink Press expressed interest in the first 3-page proposal but folded before we could proceed. I tried Caliber, Eclipse, and Mirage, but they also folded.Drafting a new 3-page proposal, I interviewed with DC Comics, but they were on the verge of bankruptcy in those days, and only wanted me to draw their main characters.so I went with the illustrated novel format instead, which I’ve maintained to this day.

Maybe it’s not all a waste…

When I first moved to NYC in 1998 (on the advice of my college art teacher), I planned on being a comic artist I interviewed with DC and Marvel, both were going bankrupt at the time and only wanted tame work that highlighted their major characters.I went on to do darker material for other publishers, but having done a few more mainstream comics, I feel I really dodged a bullet there. I get bored with that material so quickly, it’s hard to do my best work.
