Excerpt
I put on a red mini skirt with a black top which flattered me in all the right places and paired the clothing with knee-length black leather boots. The weather here had been one of the hardest things to adjust to. December brought cold weather and my thin jacket clearly didn't do enough to keep me warm anymore. With my next paycheck, a winter jacket was going to be a priority. If only I made more money, it would make my life a lot easier. Christmas was coming and I was going to stay at the dorm alone, with no money available to afford the trip home. It sucked, my parents were angry at first when I told them I wouldn’t be coming, but they’d eventually come to terms with my decision.
"Sugar!" Zach entered my room, he stared at me, practically drooling.
"Hey lucky." I blushed. "I'm ready."
He stepped closer, his blue eyes filling with desire.
"I’ve change my mind. What about staying here for the night?"
I knew what he was suggesting, but there was no way I would cancel my night out. It represented my only Christmas celebration. The only fun I expected to have until the beginning of January when he would return to the residence. "I want what you want, lucky, but we have to go out. I want to have some fun. A crazy fun-filled night is ahead of us."
He took me prisoner in his arms and his lips found mine. God! Tingles overwhelmed my body. I had to stop him, now, while I could still think.
"Zach, stop, not now, okay?" He looked down at me, lust plastering his eyes. "I feel it too. Whatever this is that we have… but Krystal is waiting, and I really need a drink." Lame excuses, Iris.
"Later, then." He kissed me one last time, making me regret stopping him in the first place. All part of a game I was meant to lose.
Krystal waited at the end of the hall, all dolled up and looking sexy. She had no partner for tonight. She was on her own, living the good life, she said.
"If the party sucks, I know a place where we could have a good time." Krystal had some connections here in New York. Her cousin was into the nightlife scene in a big way and always kept Krystal on speed dial if an opportunity presented itself.
"Will your cousin be there?" Zach asked, inevitably, because he liked her. At the time, he hadn’t specified how much he liked her, but I knew he thought she was hot.
I rolled my eyes at him. "I’m hungry, I forgot to grab something to eat before leaving. I was distracted."
"Do you want to stop by work before we go out, then we can use our discount," Krystal proposed, since we were both short on money.
"Okay, let’s go." I didn’t think Zach's love of fast food would ever die. Walking with heels on a cold night, and with a short skirt, soon proved to be a bad idea. I missed both my sneakers and my skateboard.
The warmth of the restaurant was welcome and the smell had me convinced I was starving. My coworkers eyed Krystal and I as if we had just arrived from a different planet. "Hey guys." Krys broke the silence. "We'll have three number ones with Diet Coke." With our discount, it came down to almost nothing cost wise.
We sat at a table by the front window and ate in silence. My brain couldn't process anything other than eating. I was famished and half way through my meal when Zach spoke. "Come on, girls. I don't want to get there after everyone is already wasted." I took a last sip of my Diet Coke before throwing it into the garbage disposal. With a full stomach, I was ready to party the night away. We entered the house where the party was taking place. There was people everywhere. The house was crowded to the point that I feared for our safety. What if something happened?
Zach grabbed three beers from the counter and offered us one. We stood face-to-face unable to move in the sea of people. The night wasn’t turning out as I had imagined. No dance area, no place to sit, just a big mass of people drinking and sweating. After five minutes, I wanted to leave. The parties in Florida were a lot more fun to be honest, and I’d expected the opposite.
"What about we finish our beer and get the hell out of here?" Zach proposed.
"Good idea. I got our names on the guest list for the grand opening of the Whiskey Bar & Lounge at the Health and Fitness Tower."
"Is there a place to dance?" I asked.
"Probably." Krystal didn't seem certain but I was willing to take the risk. It couldn't be as bad as this party.
"I heard this place is huge, different sections and all."
I drank the remainder of my beer and hurried outside, needing some fresh air. The brisk wind hit me head on. God, how I missed home and the warm weather.
We got into a taxi, warming up before attending what seemed like the ultimate event. A valet was waiting for the cars as they arrived. Although we had arrived in a taxi, the valet opened the door for us and let us out taking Krystal’s and then my hand to steady us as we stepped out. We were escorted by a tall man at the entrance and Krys was telling him about the invitation we’d received. He confirmed all three of us were on the guest list. Our jackets were taken to the cloak room and we were offered a small glass of whiskey. It tasted like no other whiskey I had ever tried before. So much flavour and I felt the warm liquid trickle all the way to my stomach. If I could afford it, I would have bought a second one, but I doubted I could afford the price.
"Now, we're talking." Zach licked his lips, confirming he loved it, too. "I think I'm going to like this place. It’s cozy, and it has class." He glanced around the bar, looking satisfied with our decision to come.
"Only you could afford it." I chuckled. "Working in a fast food restaurant doesn't exactly give us that possibility."
Zach had no issues, financially. His father was one of the busiest real estate agents in New Jersey. Once every two or three months, Zach had to give his father a hand with all the paperwork, but otherwise, he didn't need to work to afford the dorm experience. It never made sense to me, why he was living in the dorms if he could stay in the family residence. He said when I questioned him that he didn't like to live alone.
"Iris, isn't it?" A voice spoke from behind me. It didn't sound familiar. Before spinning around, I noticed Krystal's jaw dropping to the floor and her eyes were round like a couple of lollipops.
Oh my God. It’s him. The guy who flirted with me, at work. "Hi." I barely manage to get a word out, I’m so stunned.
"Here, I got you another one of those." He smiled and his charm hits me, making every inch of my skin shiver. I took the glass of whiskey from his outstretched hand and when our fingers touched, something strange happened. My eyes met his and… and… what was that? Something happened in my chest, as if my heart had stopped beating for an instant.
"Thank you." I flushed.
"You and your friends can have anything you want. It’s on me."
I shook my head in disagreement. "I’m sorry, I’m afraid I can’t accept that."
"You certainly will. Julia here, will make sure you guys have everything you need."
His generosity left me speechless, but it wasn't in my nature to accept anything that was handed to me with no good reason. Even more so, when it came from a complete stranger. "Why?"
He stared at me as if I was missing something important. "Because I own this place, and I want to make sure you're having a good time."
"Thank you." Krystal accepted his offer for us and I mentally beheaded her.
He startled me when he placed his hand on my forearm, I was still deeply focused, hating on Krys. He clutched my forearm for a second with his fingers and then left. What was that all about? I didn't know his name, or the reason behind his attention. I had only met him for the first time today and nothing had happened between us, other than him flirting a little. At the time, I thought it was innocent, but doubt was starting to make me rethink the whole situation.
"I think he wants something from you." Zach said, sounding unhappy.
Krystal chuckled. "Clearly. His name is Calvin Banks. He owns this, the gym upstairs and most of the building, if not all. He is big into health, sport and everything in between. He used to play football professionally. I knew I’d seen him somewhere before."
"Okay, so? Why are you telling me all this now?" I asked nervously.
"I hadn't figured it out this afternoon. Now, though, he’s making it obvious – he wants you in his bed."
Zach tensed beside me. "He's too old for you."
"I don't think he's even thirty yet," Krys announced, giving Zach one more reason to worry.
I had no idea who he was. I only knew his name because Krys had told me. He didn't even have the decency to properly introduce himself, when he decided to offer me a drink. Calvin obviously had money, that much was clear, but he didn't interest me.
Yet.

TWO PRINCES: The Biker and the Billionaire by Victoria Danann. Two brothers, one a player, one a playboy, neither aware of the other, are on a collision course with destiny. #Giveaway #Romance

TWO PRINCES:
The Biker and the Billionaire by Victoria Dan ann Series: Sons of Sanctuary MC, Book 1Genre: Contemporary RomanceRelease Date: June 16, 2015

Brigid Roan is a graduate student at the University of Texas. She had no trouble getting her thesis approved, but finding a Hill Country motorcycle club willing to give her access to their lifestyle had started to seem impossible. Then she got a lead. A friend of a friend had a cousin with ties to The Sons of Sanctuary.

What she wanted was information to prove a proposition. What she didn’t want was to fall for one of the members of the club. Especially since she had set out to prove that motorcycle clubs are organized according to the same structure as primitive tribal society.

Brash Fornight was standing in line at the H.E.B. Market when his world tipped on its axis. While waiting his turn to check out, his gaze had wandered to the magazine display and settled on the new issue of “NOW”. The image on the cover, although GQ’d up in an insanely urbane way, was… him.

After reading the article, Brash threw some stuff in a duffle and left his club, The Sons of Sanctuary, with a vague explanation about needing a couple of days away. He left his Jeep at the Austin airport and caught a plane for New York, on a mission to find the guy who was walking around with his face.

Two brothers, one a player, one a playboy, neither aware of the other, are on a collision course with destiny and a woman who thought she won a prize when she was allowed a look inside the Sons of Sanctuary MC.

Interview:

1. Where did the idea come from for this book? Sweet sorrow is a story that was inspired by the young people living in my community. I was in an all-girls boarding high school and within the four years I was in the school, an average of 15 girls had dropped out school due to teenage pregnancies. Some carried out abortions or may be got sick. It dawned on me that for these cases to have manifested to these small girls, it was all about the choices they made in life. It could have been peer pressure or just seeking some fun but either way, I had to find a way of addressing the issue. I found that the most suitable way to pass the message to any teenage would be through a story, and that is how Sweet Sorrow was born.

2. What genre does your book fall under?
Sweet Sorrow would lie in the Women’s fiction genre

3. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
She made a choice for which she paid dearly.

4. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It took me 5 months to do the first draft.

5. What did you learn about yourself while writing this book?
Writing the book made me realize that for a worthy course, I am ready to give my all.

6. Do you have anything in common with Ida and Claire??
Being an African woman, I feel that there is so much we have in common with Claire and Ida because I am faced with choices at every corner I turn. I am expected to make the right choice and be a role model because there are so many people looking up to me for guidance.

7.  Which of these two women do you most identify with?
I mostly identify with Ida because my life has not been all smooth. Many up and downs but I’m glad I have been able to make the right choices in life.

8. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
The fact that this is a story with an African set up, and depict the choices African girls have to made day in day out.

9. What do you as an African woman feel most concerns you about the conflict between tradition and modern lifestyles imported from the West?
I feel that as Africans, we should be proud of our cultural practices, of course the good ones. I feel concerned mostly when I get to interact with Africans who do not totally want to be associated with the African way of dressing…I think African regalia is cool.

10. I know you plan on following Ida and Claire's children in the next two books, without giving anything away, can you give as a hint as to what happens in the next book?
In the next series, Laventa falls in love with Ronald, but will the traditional practices highly valued in Ronald’s community let their young love thrive?

11. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
If Sweet Sorrow was a movie script, I would definitely have Lupita Nyong’o play the role of Ida. I’d have Mercy Johnson as Claire, Desmond Elliot as Malvis and Will Smith as Jason. I would also have Kenya’s Brenda Wairimu as Laventa and Frank Artus as Ronald.

12. I know you are promoting African Literature through a Foundation, would you tell us more about your project?
For the love of Literature, I founded an organization by the name Literature Africa Foundation where we create, nurture and promote a reading culture in children and young adults throughout Africa. We achieve this through holding Narrative Days in Schools whereby we go to Primary schools and engage children in storytelling activities; We narrate to them, have them narrate to us and we read for them interesting storybooks, encouraging them to read more.We also look out for young talent in writing whereby we hold mentorship programs in High schools and engage young scholars and upcoming / aspiring writers on ways to grow their talent; how to be better writers. We also donate story books and novels to every school we visit as part of our vision; to touch a child’s life at a time through a book.Follow us on Facebook at:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Story-Tellers-Club-Kenya/481623328657045
13. Is there anything else you would like to say to your readers, as a successful woman, and a mother?

I think that life is all about choices. My journey has not been easy especially being a young mom, I had to shelf my career for four years to concentrate on being a mom to my two wonderful kids. We should aspire to always make the right choice in regard to the situation at hand. Always remember that you only achieve the best through hard work, prayer and determination. Stay focused!

EXCERPT
Ida was the only daughter of Mr. Shaaban, who was a shopkeeper at Matunda village, while her mother was a small scale farmer in the same village. She had two elder brothers who lived in Khalama. The elder brother was also a shop keeper, while the younger one was still trying to get a job as a doctor.
She had been brought up in a Christian family and was educated up to secondary school level. One fateful day, when she was in the third grade, she had been sent home by the boarding school management to collect the school-fees balance of the year, and as chance would have it, she had gotten acquainted with Malvis.
She had walked home that day, scuffing her school-shoes through the white dust of the clay road, worrying about the money, inwardly praying for her brother - who was still unemployed - to get a job.
Over her, the green branches of the acacias danced in the breeze, showering down spirals of red blossoms to stain the long bright road ahead. So engrossed in her thoughts was she, that she didn’t realize that she had dropped her school identity-card until a young man, slightly older than her brother, stopped her.
“Hello there! How are you?” he hailed.
“I am fine, thank you,” she replied.
“But to me, you don’t look all that fine, maybe I could be of help,” he offered cheekily.
“I am not sure what help you think I might need, besides we are strangers,” Ida countered smartly.
“I see you are in your school uniform, have you been sent home due to lack of money for the school fees?” he persisted.
“Stop bothering me with impertinent questions,” she retorted, getting irritated by his inquisitive nature. “If there is anything you wish to say, get on with it, and be gone!”
“Hey don’t get angry! I was just interested. By the way, I am Malvis Mathenge, better known as Mr. Mathenge to my pupils at Masomo primary school. I bet you have heard of the school. But you don’t have to be formal with me; you can just call me Malvis.”
“Mr. Mathenge; am okay with that if it is what you wanted to know. I am…”
“No need for that, Ida,” he interrupted her.
“And why is that?” she asked, a tinge of irritated embarrassment evident in her voice. “And how do you know my name?”
“Because…” and he handed her the identity card. She looked at him suspiciously. “Don’t get the wrong impression of me,” he said defensively. “I just found it, and thought it must belong to you since you are the only student on the road at this moment.”
Her lips parted in a grateful smile as she thanked him prettily: “Thank you Mr. Malvis Mathenge!”
“Just Malvis, please, Ida…”

Interviewing Wade and author Grace Marshall. The Executive Decisions Trilogy may be over, but the story continues.

Actually Wade’s story has been on the horizon for a long time now. Ever since An Executive Decision , the first of Grace Marshall’s Executive Decisions novels, came out with Ellis and Dee’s story, readers, who loved the book have been clambering for reclusive, nerd genius, Wade Crittenden’s story. Wade plays an important role in all three of the other Executive Decisions novels, but as intrigued as I was by the idea of writing his story, I seriously doubted that Wade would allow me into his reclusive world any further than I’d already come, let alone open up and tell me his story. But, three books in, while the readers loved the Executive Decisions books and the reviews were excellent, the unanimous opinion was that everyone wanted to read Wade’s story.
Wade is the creative genius behind the fabulously progressive, green company, Pneuma, Inc, which he and Ellison Thorne founded together with the Late Beverly Neumann. He is socially challenged, to say the least, and he could teach most recluses a thing or two. While Ellis and Dee work in the light-filled, glass and steel executive suites of the Pneuma Building, which Wade designed, Wade’s realm is the extensive maze of basement and sub-floors of the building affectionately known by everyone else as Wade’s Dungeon.
What happens when the Northwest’s most intriguing, and richest recluse reluctantly agrees to be interviewed by the Northwest’s most talented pit bull of an investigative journalist, Carla Flannery? Carla always gets her story, but sometimes that means making enemies. Wade’s ulterior motive for allowing the interview is to keep her safe by keeping her close when her life is threatened by an unknown stalker. And OMG, do the sparks sizzle when the two are forced into each other’s space, up close and personal!
2.      What genre does your book fall under?Grace Marshall’s books are sizzling romance. There are parts that are very erotic, but a much softer kind of erotic than the writings of Grace’s alter-ego, K D Grace. In Grace Marshall’s story, the driving force is the relationship that evolves between the two main characters and the crisis that drives them together, so there are also elements of a psychological thriller as well.3.      Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I never have anyone in mind to play my characters when I write a story and, since I don’t watch a lot of television or films, it’s really hard for me to say based on the few actors I really obsess over. Perhaps Michael Fassbender would make a good Wade. Whoever played Wade would definitely have to be a brooder. For Carla, maybe Amy Adams or Jennifer Lawrence. She would definitely have to have a non-traditional beauty. 4.      What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?Intrepid reporter gets reluctant interview with reclusive genius billionaire, who helps her solve a kidnapping while trying to keep her safe from a sinister stalker. 5.      How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?I was on a pretty tight deadline with Wade, so it took me four weeks to write the first draft. Surprisingly, Wade was way more forthcoming with his details than I ever thought he’d be. J6.      What did you learn about yourself while writing this book? This was a great example of expecting a novel to be really hard to write and finding that instead it was a real joy. Both Wade and Carla were very open with their stories. The chemistry between them was magical and they were so much fun together that I had an absolute blast writing under one of the tightest deadlines I’ve ever had. I suppose my lesson is that things in the writing world are never what you expected. There are always surprises. This time they were really, really fun surprises.7.      What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?I will say that though Wade Crittenden is a billionaire, that’s pretty much where the similarity with 50 Shades of Grey ends. I think the feel of the novel is very Nora-Roberts-esque. In particular, the feel is like some of her more stalkerish novels – The Search, Blue Fire, with a bit of The Black Hills thrown in for good measure. Some of the more comedic moments between Wade and Carla have a bit of a Janet Evanovich feel to them. I think Wade himself would be much more at home in a brooding reclusive super-hero comic book than he would be in a billionaire romance. Certainly there’s a bit of Big Bang Theory thrown in with just a tad of Bruce Banner’s struggle for control. 8.      Who or What inspired you to write this book?I suppose Wade was inspired by my own love for the less-than-traditional heroes in a story. There are so many ways to be larger than life. The fact that he started out as a side character (I won’t call him a minor character, because he never was that) in the first of the Executive Decisions novels and he so easily captured the hearts of my readers told me they felt the same way I do about those wonderful non-traditional heroes. The readers, more than anything else, inspired me to write Wade’s story. The more they asked for Wade, the more I thought about him, and even when I agreed to write his story, I wasn’t quite sure how willing Wade would be. In the end, it was very obvious my readers were right from the beginning. Wade had the most fascinating story just waiting to be told. 9.      What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?I think the readers will find Wade’s world fascinating. The complex of laboratories, strange living quarters and dark warrens he’s created for himself beneath the Pneuma Buildingare affectionately called by everyone who knows him Wade’s Dungeon. The world he’s created is very much a reflection of the inside of Wade’s head, and it reveals so much about who he is and why he chooses to cut himself off from people. I think the fact that Carla can waltz right into that strange world and make herself at home in a way that surprises and secretly delights Wade, as much as it irritates him, will very much intrigue readers.
INTERVIEWING WADEBy K D GraceWriting as Grace Marshall
Blurb:The Executive Decisions Trilogy may be over, but the story continues. Intrepid reporter, Carla Flannery, wants to interview Wade Crittenden, the secretive creative genius behind Pneuma Inc. But when, against all odds, Wade actually agrees to the interview, Carla suspects ulterior motives. Carla has made a lot of enemies in her work and when Wade discovers she’s being stalked, he agrees to the interview to keep her close and safe. As the situation turns deadly, lives and hearts are on the line, and the interview reveals far more about both than either ever expected.
Excerpt:The dining area smelled of Chinese food. Lynnhad spread the feast on the coffee table in front of the ratty sofa. For a moment, Carla stood staring at the food, feeling slightly nauseated. ‘I’m not hungry,’ she said.
‘Come on, you need to eat. With your metabolism, being what it is, if you don’t you’ll have wasted completely away by morning.’ He settled her onto the least lumpy part of the couch and then sat down next to her. When she made no effort, he opened the waxed cardboard containers and surveyed their contents. Then he ladled up a spoonful of egg flower soup and totally surprised her by bringing it, with a steady hand, to her lips. ‘A little bit,’ he said. ‘You don’t want to hurt Lynn’s feelings, do you?’
She opened her mouth, and he carefully spooned it in and watched while she swallowed. ‘Since when have you cared about hurting anyone’s feelings,’ she said. The soup had felt good against her throat, and it wasn’t so difficult to open her mouth when he spooned up the next bite.
‘I don’t, really, and just for the record, Lynndoesn’t care about mine either, but I’m not above lying to get my way.’ He ladled another spoonful into her mouth and this time she made an mmm sound at the back of her throat as she swallowed.
‘And are you getting what you want?’
‘You’re eating, aren’t you?’
He gave a little gasp of surprise when she took the spoon away from him, dipped up a nice fat egg drop and pointed the utensil in his direction. When he stared at her like she had two heads, she laughed softly. ‘Come on Crittenden, open up. Here comes a choo-choo.’ She wasn’t sure if he opened his mouth for the soup or because he was about to say something rude. Either way she took advantage and shoved the spoon home. When he took the bite, holding her gaze as though he didn’t quite understand what kind of creature had assaulted him with a soup spoon, holding her gaze with absolutely no sexual innuendo, but her insides trembled and hollowed anyway.
‘It’s good,’ he said, his cheeks turning a warm shade of pink, as he took the spoon back and returned the favour, and this time he didn’t protest when it was his turn,– even as she picked up a pair of chopsticks and brazenly served up a sloppy mouthful of Singapore noodles while he sat with his mouth slightly open, making her think of a hungry nestling waiting for a worm. The thought made her giggle at the last instant, and he barely caught the end of an escaping noodle in time to slurp it off his chin and into his mouth.
‘You’re sloppy, Flannery,’ he said, licking his lips with two flicks of his tongue that made her breath catch and her nipples ache.
Dear Christ, he had no idea whatsoever what he did to her. This time, as she waited open-mouthed for her bite of soup, his hand was far less steady and at least half of it ended up in her cleavage. She yelped. ‘You did that on purpose.’
‘Did not’ he said. Handing her a napkin and watching wide-eyed as she dabbed away chicken broth.
‘Did so.’
‘Did not,’ he said. Then he filled the chopsticks dangerously full of noodles and brought them toward her mouth. ‘This –’ he fumbled the chopsticks and the whole bite slipped off the ends and right down between her breasts ‘—I did on purpose.’

Good Ride, Cowboy by Allison Merritt Sometimes all you need is one good ride to clear your head. Thanks to her ex-boyfriend, Sommer Allen's life is in shambles. She's headed home to Courtland, Texas for her sister's wedding, but when a quick stop a gas station ruins her plans, she's left stranded and at the mercy of a handsome cowboy.Perry Glidewell is on his way back to Texas after winning another championship in the arena versus a bull. When he finds Sommer having a meltdown in the middle of a parking lot, he knows he can't leave her alone. Since her hometown is near his, it makes sense to hit the road together.Sommer never imagined falling for a cowboy. His manners and gallant attitude win her over quickly, but with her future uncertain, she's not quite willing to give her whole heart to Perry. He'll do whatever it takes to break the walls around Sommer's heart, because beneath her tough-talking exterior, he sees she's the type of Texas girl he's always dreamed of.
EXCERPT:Perry opened the door. “What the hell are you doing? Are you trying to steal my truck?”She glowered. “Of course not. You snore. I thought I'd be able to sleep out here. I was asleep, until I turned a little and set off the alarm. I'm so sorry.” She handed him the keys and knocked something off the dash.A lacy bra landed on his bare feet. His gaze shot straight to her chest. Sommer's t-shirt was tight around her breasts and her nipples made perky bumps in the material.Perry clenched his teeth. Of all the damn things to notice. He bent down and picked the bra up by the strap. “Think you lost something.”She snatched the bra out of his hand. “You try sleeping in one of these.”“Not really my style, sweetheart.”“It's not like I have a garment bag to store it in. Anyway, you snore really bad. It's like the cross between a wood chipper and a rabid lion. I can't spend the rest of the night listening to you.”“You could have woke me up instead of alerting the whole world to where we are.” He shook his head. “You're one strange lady.”“Am not.” Her lower lip slid out and she folded her arms under her breasts, pushing them up higher.

Cowboy in Waiting by Leslie P. Garcia
She’d buried a hero. She wasn’t looking for another. But her cowboy in waiting was far from a hero… Bury enough dreams, and you’re bound to grow up. Diana Salas Chester is a rancher’s daughter and a hero’s widow. There isn’t a lot she can’t do, from raising her daughter Gwen to facing down the loss of dream after dream. And then a birthday celebration goes wrong, and Diana winds up in Border Patrol Agent Ray Bennett’s bed. Not many of her acquaintances approve of Ray “Baby” Bennett. But is he just the cowboy she’s been waiting for? Ray Bennett spent his life running away from the demands of his cowboy brothers and the ranching life. So when he wakes up in bed with his Border Patrol partner’s sister, he doesn’t want the complications. But suddenly the choice isn’t his to make.
EXCERPT:Across from him, Di straightened in her chair. He looked her over appreciatively. The halter dress she wore plunged deeply, the icy blue contrasting with a smooth, even tan that went enticingly lower than he would have expected. Compassion headed toward desire. Hell, toward lust. Maybe if the night went suddenly better…She tilted her head a little, then shook it. “You…what kind of car do you drive?” she asked abruptly.“Yellow Corvette.” He waited for the gleam of appreciation. “Then you’re the idiot in the yellow car!” She closed her fingers around her drink glass so hard he thought it might break, and gulped half the drink before slamming it down again.“I will never forgive Rachel for this—this nightmare! My best friend? How could she set me up with some stupid, stuck-up, oversexed jerk in a yellow car? Damn you, Rachel!”He gaped for a moment, then slowly closed his mouth. “Just one thing,” he asked. “Who’s Rachel?”

About Leslie Garcia:Leslie P. García grew up lost among a crowd of six siblings and a menagerie that included more than twenty horses and ponies, uncounted dogs and cats, possums, raccoons—even a lion and monkeys. Then she moved to Texas, fell in love, was disowned—and embarked on her real adventures, raising 4 children, teaching hundreds, and loving 9 grandkids through forty years of marriage. The fabric of that colorful life has always been writing. In A Cowboy Heart, Leslie celebrates two of her passions—cowboys and the ever present chance at redemption in spite of past mistakes. The Heartbroken Cowboy by Melissa Keir Love isn’t found at the bottom of a bottle… Johnson O’Neill joined The Heartsong Ranch to escape his addiction. One night at a friend’s wedding, stress causes him to fall off the wagon and into the arms of the woman of his dreams.Debra Donahue lost her husband to alcohol then pulled herself up by her bootstraps becoming a million-dollar selling real estate agent. One night with a sexy cowboy and a bottle of whiskey, Debra falls hard. Can an alcoholic cowboy and a brokenhearted woman find love despite their fears? Or will the bottom of a bottle claim another happily ever after?
EXCERPT:“I don’t drink, but could use a strong one, right now. Not this sissy stuff.” He lifted the glass to his lips, downed the contents, and shoved his now-empty champagne flute away before he leaned in toward her. The smell of alcohol on his breath hinted that he’d already had too much to drink. “Know anyone around here with some whiskey?” The dark sapphire of his eyes chilled her. This was a man used to getting what he wanted. “I’d even share.” His voice deepened and became husky with his offer and she shivered.“I don’t drink with men I don’t know.” Debra stuck out her hand. “I’m Debra, and you are?”The man grabbed another glass of champagne off a passing waiter’s tray and guzzled the drink in one swallow. “The name’s Johnson O’Neill. Now about that whiskey.” He reached out and drew her up to standing then tugged her in close to him. Wrapping his arm around her back, he moved her body in a slow two-step motion.Debra gazed into his eyes. “You don’t have to seduce me for the whiskey.” She stepped out of his embrace and put her hands on her hips. She frowned.“That’s not why I drew you into my arms. You were tapping your foot when I arrived—and I thought you might like a dance. A pretty woman like you shouldn’t be sitting alone.” He stretched his palm out again in a plea.

Cowboy in Trouble by Autumn Piper
A cowboy on the run and a girl on the rebound make for a messy fling. Colby may be having the worst day ever. He wakes up at gunpoint, “hired” by a stranger to do a new job he doesn’t want. Worried the load he’s hauling is contraband, he walks off the job once he’s out of sight of his new employer. Running may not be his best plan, but he needs time to find a way out of this mess.Delta’s day starts off rough when her pickup stalls on the side of the road. Lucky for her, a handsome cowboy comes along and works mechanical magic on the poor old truck. They strike a deal: he’ll help her out around the farm in exchange for a place to lay low for a few days. He turns out to be handy in all the right ways. A real keeper…not that she’s interested in keeping a man right now. She can afford a rebound fling, but nothing more.Besides, once Colby gets rid of the crime boss breathing down his neck, he’ll hit the trail. A rodeo circuit cowboy from Oklahoma wouldn’t want to stick around on a little farm in Colorado. Or would he?
EXCERPT:The door across the hall opened and by the time she turned around, Colby stood there in nothing but a towel. Hubbahubba, a very small towel, since she kept her nice big ones downstairs and hadn’t remembered to provide him one.Um. Dripping, mostly naked, and looking as surprised as she felt… Wow. Those shoulders looked even better without a shirt. He had the prettiest eyes. Did guys like their eyes being called pretty? Whatever. Nice green-gray. And oh, how she’d appreciate a wardrobe malfunction right about now, just a little slippage of that towel. Although the healthy bulge beneath might not allow it to slip far.“Ahem.”“Er,” she answered ever-so-intelligently. “Sorry.”“Sorry,” he said at the same time. “Forgot my bag in here.”Caught leering. Her face must be flame-red. “Thought I had time to make up the bed for you.”“I’ll just…” He indicated his bag on the floor by the window.“Oh. Sure.” She stepped aside so he could get to it. Lord, please grant us a wardrobe malfunction...He picked up his bag without the towel slipping, although she had to say it had soaked up water in some prime spots and clung just right. As he passed by her, he paused, and she tore her eyes away. Reluctantly. God. Her mother had definitely taught her it was rude to stare. The poor guy probably worried she’d attack him in the night. He was hot enough, it had probably happened before.“Ditto,” he said.“Huh?”With his free hand, he rubbed his thumb over her chin. “Whatever you’re thinking, right back atcha.” Looking up into his eyes was like riding the downhill part of a rollercoaster. Her heart screamed Weeeee!About Autumn Piper:Born and raised in itty-bitty Rifle, Colorado, Autumn Piper studiously avoided trouble…but is now inclined toward it, particularly in her novels. She thinks the best things in life are funny, and the runners-up, romantic. An admitted carb addict, Autumn writes, edits, manages two teenagers, two cats, a box turtle with a huge personality, one husband and many supersize houseplants, and does the cooking and cleaning when forced to.To sign up for Autumn’s occasional newsletter: http://mad.ly/signups/105424/join Website   |  Blog   |  Facebook   |  Twitter   |  Goodreads   |  Amazon Page

A Cowboy’s Heaven by Sara Walter Ellwood From the hell of lost love, can they find heaven together? Katie Chester is alone in the world. After losing her husband and then her parents, she’s left to run Heaven, a thousand-acre ranch encompassing nearly an entire Montana mountain. She rents out a suite of rooms, but ends up with a boarder who shakes her to her foundation. When Pennsylvanian ex-Army doctor Collin Kirkpatrick lost his wife a year ago, he lost his world. He needs to escape the pain, and where better than in an isolated town in the West? He answers an ad for resident doctor in Evansville, Montana, but is surprised to find Heaven and the angel residing there. But can they leave their grief and pain in the past to blaze a new path into the future?
EXCERPT:He smirked at her as he sat beside her on the hay bale. “You’re laughing at me.”“Not at all. You’re actually a pleasant surprise, Dr. Kirkpatrick.”“I hope in a good way.” He winked at her and quirked his lips up into a lopsided smile, then turned his attention fully on the cow and calf, and leaned over his long legs with his elbow planted on his knees. The calf suddenly lurched herself onto her back feet and Collin grinned from ear to ear. “She’s a beauty.”Dear God, he more than surprised her, he overwhelmed her, and yes, it was in a good way. A very good way.Katie let out a breath and violently shivered. He picked up the discarded blanket and pulled it over her legs. “You’re going to catch your death. Were you out in this cold all day?”She nodded and swallowed. No way could she tell him that the sensation had nothing to do with the cold, and everything to do with him. With a deep breath to steady her racing heart, she watched as the calf latched onto one of her mother’s teats and started sucking with loud, hungry pulls.“We can go inside in a few moments.” Sweet mercy, was that low, husky voice hers?Collin only nodded as they watched the miracle of life before him.About Sara Walter Ellwood:Although Sara Walter Ellwood has long ago left the farm for the glamour of the big town, she draws on her experiences growing up on a small hobby farm in West Central Pennsylvania to write her contemporary westerns. She’s been married to her college sweetheart for over 20 years, and they have two teenagers and one very spoiled rescue cat named Penny. She longs to visit the places she writes about and jokes she’s a cowgirl at heart stuck in Pennsylvania suburbia. Sara Walter Ellwood is a multi-published author and publishes paranormal romantic suspense under the pen name Cera duBois. Website | Blog | Facebook | Twitter | Goodreads | Newsletter Signup

Cowboy Proud by D’Ann Lindun
She left town to chase her dreams... He stayed and ignored his... Can they find their dreams together? All Madeline Harper ever wanted was to escape the tight fences of Black Mountain, Colorado. Nothing would stop her from pursuing her goals--not a devoted boyfriend or infant son. Leaving everything behind, she landed her dream job as a Western Girl jeans model. Her sister’s wedding is the only thing that can entice her home. What she learns upon her return shakes her to the core…and changes everything. For the last five years Shan Ellis’ life has consisted of taking care of his son and being a cowhand on his parents’ ranch. He scarified everything to be a single dad. College. A career. Girls. Now, the one woman he can’t forget is back in town. Can he take a chance, and risk his heart, or steer clear and never know what might have been?
EXCERPT:This is how Shan had always pictured his life.Doing what he loved with his wife and children.Like him, Mason lived to be with the horses and cows. Too bad his mother hated the cowboy lifestyle with a passion. Shan couldn’t forget that for a second. Madeline Harper had ripped out his guts once before—he’d be damned if he’d let her do it again. Even if she wore a mile-wide smile and looked as at home on the back of a horse, herding cows as well as any cowgirl she wasn’t happy here. He couldn’t make her love the life, their son or him.His good mood faded.Last night, Callie Donovan had all but mounted him on the dance floor. He liked her well enough, but turned down her advances because he couldn’t get his mind off the dark-haired beauty from his past. In the five years since Maddy left town he’d held onto to the hope she’d return. He was a fool.Nothing had changed. He wanted a family; she craved fame and fortune.

About D’Ann Lindun:Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D’Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. She was hooked! She began writing and never looked back. Romance appeals to her because there's just something so satisfying about writing a book guaranteed to have a happy ending. D’Ann’s particular favorites usually feature cowboys and the women who love them. This is probably because she draws inspiration from the area where she lives, Western Colorado, her husband of twenty-nine years and their daughter. Composites of their small farm, herd of horses, five Australian shepherds, a Queensland heeler, two ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in her stories! D’Ann loves to hear from readers! Please contact her at: Website   |  Facebook Page   |  Twitter   |  Amazon Page   |  Email:  dldauthor@frontier.net

EDITH:  interview questions:
1.Where did the idea come from for the book?
My books usually begin with a What If? situation.  When I was thinking of writing third  novel about an older woman, I wondered what would a woman like Edith, crotchety, disappointed, out of love, do if she woke up to find her husband had died  without warning during the night?  While this question had made its way into a few of my own private what-ifs, Edith, the woman she was becoming in my imagination, has a very different reaction to what I suspect mine would be.  She worries about her strata scheduled for brunch in a few hours.
2.What genre does Edith fall in?
It is a woman’s book, I think, although several men have told me they enjoyed it.  It is a book that appeals to women who are contemplating their own aging process. Henlit rather than chicklit. It also contains a mystery as Edith seeks answers to her dead husband’s secrets.
3.Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie?
Edith could be played by Frances McDormand or Patricia Clarkson J. K. Simmons would be perfect as Art. Kathleen could be played by any forty-ish, good-looking woman who doesn’t like crying but does anyway.
4.One sentence synopsis: Edith arrives at a disappointing old age and discovers in the pockets of her dead husband a new self and a vibrant flicker of joy.
5.How long did it take to write the first draft of your manuscript:  Several months.
6.What did you learn about yourself while writing this book?
I thought about getting old, and the fact that nothing can be done about it.  Then I understood, through Edith and the older women of my two other novels, that aging doesn’t have to mean the end of hope, love, and control of one’s life.  This is the subtle theme of my latest novels and I try to live by it.
7.What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I’ve discovered there aren’t many novels by women about growing old—as opposed to books about old men becoming geezers.  Multiple books by Wallace Stegner, John Updike, J.M. Coetzee still call for a second read from my bookshelf. Elizabeth Strout, May Sarton, Penelope Lively are there also, but I have to look hard to find them, their stories somehow overwhelmed by the masculinity of their companions on all sides of them. I do find other women writers on the shelves, but their novels reflect my interests as a younger woman, when I was writing about and dealing with younger situations:  marriage, divorce, recalcitrant children, careers. Chicklit they used to call it.  I’m now more interested in what I call Henlit.  I just finished Margaret Laurence’s The Stone Angel.  I would like to have written it, so succinctly does it capture the confusion of an old woman who believes she has one more chance to escape the inevitable.
8.Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I am inspired by the what-if’s about growing old that pop up in the black of a sleepless night, along with wondering if I’ve missed yet another grandchild’s birthday, or whether I’ve left the oven on, or whether it is time for my husband and me to visit the mortuary to make arrangements so that our children will not have to deal with them. One night I worried about what I would l do if the man snoring softly next to me stopped breathing. When I got up, I had the beginning of a story.9.What else might pique the readers interest?
The relationship between Edith and her daughter-in-law, almost non-existent at first until they became partners seeking answers to their husbands’ wanderings, each coming home smelling of oranges.  The comfort a rescue dog brings to a woman in the process of rescuing herself.  And readers, if they haven’t already tried it, might want to look for a shop offering bubble tea. They should go with a good friend and enjoy a laugh as the huge bubbles make their slippery ways into their throats. I like the mocha flavor.

Using her knowledge of biology and forensics, Nicole searches for answers—but will anyone take the horror she finds seriously? In this unusual thriller, 'Watch the Shadows', author Robin Winter explores where the ordinary slams against the extraordinary.
Praise for 'Night Must Wait':“'Night Must Wait' is a knockout. Robin Winter really delivers the goods with her twisting tale.”-Norb Vonnegut, author of The Trust “The world Robin Winter takes us to in 'Night Must Wait' is not the fantasy of Dorothy and Toto, no longer in Kansas; it is the scary, all too-real Africa.”-Shelly Lowenkopf, author of The Fiction Writers’ Handbook "Readers never know when they pick up a novel if the story will become so compelling that they are taken away to that magical place where one finds oneself inside the world of the book's characters, conscious of little else. 'Night Must Wait' did this for me. I read, forgot that I existed."- Gina Rose St John, Amazon Reviewer "Robin's way around a sentence is nothing short of gorgeous. The beauty of her prose only highlights the tragedies of war and betrayal. In an era when women were still relegated to wife or teacher, Robin's characters want, and get, more in ways both shocking and violent. I might not want to go to war torn Africa, but I do want to go on more adventures with Robin."- Kathleen O'Donnell, Amazon Reviewer
Praise for 'Future Past':"Robin Winter's 'Future Past' is an original, meticulously crafted science fiction tale that blends the fantasy of Pinocchio and the hero's journey with elements of time travel, redemption, and a post apocalyptic world that brings readers to a satisfying, yet unexpected conclusion."- Matthew J. Pallamary "Truly imaginative, unique, and gripping -- I really really liked it! Robin Winter has a gift for inventing a world we'd be interested in saving, characters we'd be enriched to meet, and ideas about the human condition we'd be wise to ponder."- John Foran "Winter shows the strength and versatility of her writer's voice in 'Future Past'. Published shortly after her debut novel Night Must Wait, in which the setting offers a strong sense of place as a separate character, the science fiction themes of 'Future Past' haunts the reader long after the book is finished. Her first person approach with Ash gives chilling insight into a man-made world with apocalyptic consequences. Winter's prose is crisp and her pacing sharp, giving fans a science fiction a thrill that is worth the spooky ride."- Gretel Russell

EXCERPT
From Chapter Nine, p.28Thank God for Postman Brian, medics and hospitals. Meg took a deep breath, made it a real prayer. She parked her little Miata at the curb under the tall Washingtonia palm. The glossy red car might be a post-divorce indulgence, but it made her feel good to handle all that responsive power under the little skate’s hood. Second-hand bargain, but the little lovely car didn’t look or feel like it. She adored a good engine. Maybe someday she’d take that course on engines at the city college and learn how to do repair.
Oh, who was she fooling? Last time she’d signed up was day before her dad called, sounding lost, to tell her about his doctor saying he had bone cancer. Maybe when she had a better idea of what came next in her life, she’d sell the Miata for charity. Poor thing. She put its bug-eyes down and climbed out, giving the sleek red side a pat.
Dwayne had double pneumonia, but the hospital put him on IV immediately for dehydration and added Cipro to the mix. No matter that they’d gone through a whole demeaning routine about treating him as if he had TB—Dwayne feverish enough that he didn’t notice. Never mind how the hospital brought back bad thoughts about doctors and her dad gasping to death in his bed. You had to have faith in God, and sometimes even in doctors and hospitals, because some days there was no choice.
What? She stopped before her door, hand on the knob. The cat door jammed ajar? Odd, unpleasant. Looked like something slimy had been pulled through. Muck in the hinges. Had her fat tabby Schrand actually caught something, or dragged in a fish from the beach? She’d never known him to work that hard at anything; why would he start today? And oh dear, what a mess the dogs would make if Schrand brought in something dead.
Jelly-like slime, thick and gelatinous. Yuk. She opened the door and no dogs came rushing to greet her. Okay, if they were asleep, so much more a blessing. Thank you, God. She’d get her sponge mop and get as much as possible wiped up before they charged out. She slipped her shoes off as usual, and as usual, her slippers weren’t waiting. Dogs always stole them.
Meg saw the viscid marks on her kitchen floor and paused a second to get a better angle on the reflective tracks.
They looked wrong. She was used to figuring out the traces various crabs or sea slugs and stranded fish made on the beach sands. Those told stories, often ending in a splay of feather impressions, bird tracks, the plunge of a beak.
But this… she couldn’t figure. Well, it had been a long day, a startling day. She kept seeing Dwayne’s fever-reddened face, his embarrassed attempt at a smile as if he thought she would judge him for the disarray and vulnerability of illness, the paunchiness of his face, while it simply made her feel protective. Bless Postman Brian for taking her to him.
The marks faded, drying. She got down on all fours, becoming aware of a sweetish putrid smell, rank. Only a little fishy. Funny, the smears had no resemblance to the straight drag she’d expect of Schrand with a fish. A lunging curving repeated track of indecision mixed on the linoleum with dirty dog prints.
She had to wash this floor anyway. Shouldn’t ill-think the poor cat for having an adventure. Meg rocked back on her heels then stood. She didn’t want that stuff on her socks.
She grabbed the blue sponge mop and wet it at the sink, following the trail of erratic goo, rinsing again and again. More than she’d expected. Where were the dogs? They should have heard her the first time she turned on the faucet. Where was the cat? The jellyfish itself, or whatever it was? Not in the living room—be merciful, Lord, she said, half-smiling at her presumption. As if God had time to save her carpets for her….
At the doorway to the living room, she stopped. Shocked, revolted. No jellyfish. This thing was unnatural, painfully wrong. Like the result of some experiment gone horribly evil. She’d heard what PETA said about the universities. They’d picketed the Biology Building on campus here for cruelty to animals.
It was a pulsating jelly with patches of fur, tabby fur, big glazing eye of blue staring back at her from the center. It blinked.
She screamed like a girl, throwing the sponge mop, and before the handle clattered to stillness was back out of the door in her stocking feet running for the family she blamed.
