RELUCTANTLY IN LOVE, What’s Love??? Book Three, coming Fall 2014
available for preorder November 1
White picket fences and fairy tale endings just aren't in Roxanna Moss's vocabulary. Not that she'd have time for them anyway. With two jobs, Roxi is busy enough as it is without adding a man to the mix, let alone love.
It's too bad her friends think a man is just what Roxi needs--specifically a dose of Dr. Chase Walker.
But Chase was made for steamy sighs and holding hands and whispers in the dark. The kind of man who will never work out—and all her parents’ failed relationships are proof of that.
Knowing is one thing, but Chase’s piercing blue eyes and a smile that weakens her knees make it difficult to stay away. Not even solving a big-money mystery for her cousin’s PI firm can distract her from the sexy doctor who has her questioning everything she thought she knew about love.

Niecey Roy knew she wanted to be a writer from a very young age, but her moment of enlightenment came after watching the movie You’ve Got Mail. It was then she realized her place in life, and happily parked her butt on writing romance. Her dream was to create sexy vixens, hunky, half-naked heroes, and above all, romance; lots and lots of butterflies in the belly, breathless first kisses and happily-ever-afters.
Most days she can be found at home at a cluttered desk, pounding her tired little fingers away on a keyboard with nothing but black pepper flavored sunflower seeds and Visine as her weapons for mass-romance-novel-creation. When her fingers need a break, you’ll find her at a table with friends, drinking a few martinis and showing off a new pair of (sometimes ridiculous) high heels. She’s usually the loudest at the table and most often the one snorting with laughter.

Book Description:
Because the road to . . .
Clever, cool and preternaturally lethal, Max Savoie is leader of a secretive shape-shifter clan, heir to a mobster’s legacy, and the love of New Orleans’ top cop . . . but he can’t remember any of them. The only way to recover his past, and his rightful place in the arms of the woman who risked all to save him, is to surrender to a mysterious visitor who could use him as a weapon against all he’d loved.
Happily-Ever-After . . .

The key to his memories is locked in a tortuous past. To reclaim the strength of their passionate bond, Max must learn to trust her enough to face that darkness at her side before the threat it hides exposes the secret Cee Cee carries.
Is never smooth.
When an investigation into grisly deaths in an underground Shifter fight club points to more than just dangerous clan rivalries, Cee Cee enlists Max’s help to find a traitor in their midst while there’s still time to turn a deadly invading tide. But the cost of saving their treasured future may mean sacrificing his past. Especially when the enemy they pursue . . . might be Max, himself.
“Every delicious word Nancy Gideon puts on the page
exhilarates with a sensuous ferocity. Hopelessly addicted.”
—Darynda Jones, NY Times Bestselling Author
Praise from Publisher’s Weekly for the “By Moonlight” series:
“A paranormal romance series with intriguing characters and zippy action . . . Gideon masters the tension required to keep her complex and engaging story moving.”
“Vivid writing, plot twists and a satisfying ending will keep readers coming back to Gideon’s magical NOLA.”
“Rich and complex. Enticing new dimensions to the Shifter world keep things fresh. Gideon delivers well-crafted prose and page-turning tension.”
All the fear and tension of the past hours rattled through her. Cee Cee hugged her arms about herself to still the shivering. The events emphasized her fragile hold on those she cared about. For all her best and bravest intentions, she couldn’t protect them, especially within the often-lethal uncertainty of their preternatural sphere. One she was now a part of by choice and by recently-discovered heredity.
Still, she wasn’t doing Max any favors by keeping him isolated in emotional bubble wrap. If he was going to recover any sense of normalcy, he needed to get out into the world and out of her panicked grip. Almost losing her partner made that all the more painful to accept. To be alone again. To not share her life, her thoughts, her heart with another . . .
What did she have to lose? She had none of that now in her despondent dream that all could go back as it was.
Her system gave a jolt when she realized Max had come up behind her to make amends.
“You weren’t being foolish.”
The rumble of his deep voice caressed over her nerve endings, quieting them like a balm. “Yes, I was. If you and Giles hadn’t been so close by, MacCreedy would be dead, and I wouldn’t have been able to live with that. I should be thanking you, not treating you like a runaway child who broke curfew. I’m sorry.”
His hand settled on her shoulder, and the weight and warmth of it had her dying inside. “Don’t apologize. I know how hard this is for you. I appreciate all you’ve done for me.”
Past tense. A bittersweet twist shaped her mouth. “All I’ve done has been for me, not you. I haven’t given you much consideration at all. I’m selfish that way.”
His palm rubbed over the cap of her shoulder, fingers gently kneading. Leaving her needing as he objected quietly, “There’s not a selfish bone in your body, cher.”
A laugh. “How would you know? You’re hardly an expert on what I am or I’m not.”
“I’m a fast learner.”
She wasn’t sure if he stepped forward or she leaned back. Their bodies bumped, and the shock of it undid her.
Cee Cee turned right into his arms. Hers circled him in a frantic clutch. Cheek pressed to the hard wall of his chest with only a thin weave of white linen between them, she squeezed her eyes shut and simply breathed him in. Love, longing, desire all quivered through her, a bouquet so potent he couldn’t be unaware of it. This was where she belonged, where everything made sense.
And then she realized he no longer held her, that his arms had dropped to his sides, as his breath suspended. She knew if she looked up, she’d see that horribly familiar blankness in his eyes, that stiff distance in his expression, and suddenly that hurt worse than the thought of his absence.
She pushed away with a crisp, “I’m sorry. I’m breaking the rules. I forgot we were strangers.” She turned to her dresser to snatch up those things that defined her: shield, cell, holster and gun. “Consider yourself off the leash, Savoie. You’re capable of handling your own affairs. I’ll stick to mine. If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a report to file.”
He didn’t move to stop her.
Character Name: Charlotte “Cee Cee” Caissie
Character Bio: New Orleans police detective and mate of Max Savoie, former mobster bodyguard and leader of the New Orleans shape-shifter clan
Describe yourself- what is your worst and best quality?
Best: I’m stubborn and independent. Worst: I’m stubborn and independent!
What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?
How difficult it was for me to bend my rules to have Max in my life. I was raised to believe in a certain code. I lived by it. It was all I had to cling to until the worst possible thing happened—I fell for the one man who was absolutely wrong for me—and at the same time, oh so right. I had to struggle to justify how I felt, and to accept what I needed. I still do.
What is your biggest secret- something no one knows about?
Some already know it, but the most important person doesn’t remember it. It’ll be hard to hide for long.
What are you most afraid of?
Being vulnerable. I was a victim once. I didn’t like it.
What do you want more than anything?
What I just lost and can’t seem to get back. The man I need like air, like light, like sound.
What is your relationship status?
Complicated! I’m bonded to Max Savoie, who’s the exact opposite of everything my life stands for. And to make things worse, he doesn’t remember me.
How would you describe your sense of fashion?
My partner calls it “Hooker Chic”, but I prefer “edgy.” Is there a rule that says you can’t go to a crime scene in stilettos?
How much of a rebel are you?
Only in the fashion sense. On the job, I’ve always been strictly play by the book. But since Max and I have gotten together, he’s added some interesting pages!
What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?
Earning my shield, to protect the innocent and serve my city. Some days that’s harder to do than others.
What is your idea of happiness?
Sex-on-the-Beach. And not just the drink. Sun, sand, sex, and the man I can’t live without. Heaven. Too bad the vacation’s over.
What is your current state of mind?
Frustrated, angry . . . scared. I’m afraid the future Max and I dreamed of will never be more than that—just a dream.
What is your most treasured possession?
The pearls Max gave me, for very personal reasons, for both of us. And my shield.
What is your most marked characteristic?
Determination. I don’t give up and I don’t let go. Ever. If I’ve got your back, consider yourself covered.
What is it that you most dislike?
Evil. It comes in a lot of forms, sometimes nicely dressed and running for public office, sometimes so strong it takes away those things you love the most and you can’t do anything about it. Doing something about it is my job. And I’m good at it.
Which living person do you most despise?
The one who stole my happiness away on an experimentation table in Chicago. When I find out who, they’ll find out how much.
What is your greatest regret?
Deciding to walk home with my best friend after that high school basketball game. If we’d taken that ride, everything about our lives would be different.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Honesty and honorability.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Tolerance for who I am. I live in a man’s world and being a girlie-girl is foreign to me.
Who is your favorite hero in fiction?
Ellen Ripley in “Aliens”
Which living person do you most admire?
Father Michael Furness of St. Bart’s where I spent most of my growing up years —until I found out he wasn’t at all who I thought he was.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
I wish I could be more forgiving.
What is your motto?
Never, never, never, never give up. Good enough for Churchill, good enough for me.

About the Author:

Rick Mercado stood in the doorway, his mouth dry with nerves. He forced an easy breath and settled his focus on the man behind the desk, searching his eyes. The man rocked back in his chair and gave a satisfied smile. He was bald on top with gray on the sides. His hand swept the room, inviting inspection. “This is it,” he said. Rick scanned the small office as directed: Cluttered desk, leather high-back chair, a window shaded with plastic louvers, everything a little dusty. “It’s very nice.” The man puffed out his chest. “Oh, it’s not much, but it works.” Rick’s lips twitched up toward a smile. “I built this company on my own, you know. No silver spoon.” “Yes, I know,” Rick said. Ben was a self-made man. He had mentioned this several times during the employment interview, which had been coffee at the truck stop. At the end of which, Ben had reached across the table to offer Rick a calloused hand and welcome him aboard Ben Johnson’s Concrete Construction. Ben tilted forward and a spring squeaked. “Close the door.” He pointed to the small chair in the corner. “Have a sit. We’ll go over your duties.” Rick pulled the chair to the center of the room and faced the desk, but he remained standing. His hands rested on the steel tubing that framed the chair’s back and his head nodded with interest while Ben shuffled some papers. Rick had taken an instant liking to the old contractor. The glint in the man’s eyes reminded him of ringing door bells and running off. When the waitress had asked his age in a playful way, Ben had said, “I’ve been ordering from the senior menu for years.” Then giving her a wink he had added, “Nobody ever wants to see my driver’s license for proof.” Thinking of this, Rick’s grin widened. He was going to like working for Ol’ Ben Johnson. He had a good feeling. Except then Ben stiffened up. “What’s so funny?” Rick’s lips tightened. He said softly, “Nothing.” The old man studied the young one with a fatherly eye. “Times have been tough out here the last four years while you’ve been hiding in the books.” “Yes, sir.” Ben showed him the stack of papers. “But business is starting to pick up again.” Rick nodded agreement. “Been in this business all my life, and it’s cyclical. Feast or famine.” The old man gave the young one a significant look. “You hungry, Rick?” “Yes, sir.” “Then wipe that grin off your face. This is serious stuff.” Rick’s grip on the chair tightened, but then he caught that glint in the old man’s eye. Rick laughed and Ben joined him. “Got you, didn’t I.” “Yes, sir. Yes, you sure did.” Rick felt his body loosen. “But seriously, my point is this. If you are going to be running work for me you need to wipe that grin off your face. My crews are all good, but they’re roughnecks.” “I can do this,” Rick said. “I know you can, that’s why I hired you. Fine, strong young man. Got all the confidence in the world in you, boy. You’ll make someone a fine hand someday.” Rick warmed. That’s what his dad always said. “I’ve got some sidewalk repairs coming up. We’re replacing a driveway later this week. But I’ve got significant jobs to bid on. A couple of restaurants and even a small strip mall on the interstate. I’m sure I’ll keep you busy.” “That’s great.” “And if not, I suppose you can always do office work for your dad, huh?” “Sure,” Rick said. “But I’d rather make it on my own. When I walk out to take charge of a crew I don’t want them whispering Daddy’s Boy.” Ben’s round eyes gleamed. “I respect that, kid. I do. Your dad is a fine contractor and stiff competition. I can’t help but feel I’m cheating him a little.” “He’s fine with my decision,” Rick said evenly. “Then I’ll let it go at that.” Ben stood and stretched his hand across the desk. Rick knew the knuckle crushing strength of Ben’s grip and was prepared for it this time. The two locked on and worked forearm strength against each other. All the while Ben grinned. “You’ll get there, kid,” he said at last and loosened his grip. “Thanks again, Ben. I won’t mess up this opportunity.” “Of course you won’t, but look.” Ben’s gaze returned to the papers on his desk. “Everything is all formal now. I have a written job description for site foreman. You have to read it and sign it. And whatever else. Tax papers and such. Julia knows all that, so introduce yourself to her on the way out.” He glanced at the clock. “If she’s back from lunch.” “Yeah, sure. I will.” Rick turned to leave but hesitated before opening the door. “When do I start?” “Tonight. Be back at six. You can help us bid the strip mall. It’s big and I don’t want to mess it up.” “Sure,” Rick said. “See you then. I’ll bring a calculator.” He stepped out and saw the young secretary sitting at her desk in the small reception area. She was a real cutie with dark hair cut shoulder length and intense eyes, but there was something more there than merely good looks. The old man’s words hung in his mind. Are you hungry, Rick? Yes, he thought, surprising himself. Yes, I am.

Character Name: Julia Benson.
Character Bio: At twenty-two Julia is getting her life in order. She earned a bookkeeping certificate and now has a good job and Ben Johnson’s Concrete Construction. She just bought a cottage to spend her time and love on while fixing it up. She is also active in her church, but it wasn’t always this way. She had a rough time when she was young, being raised under her dad’s controlling thumb until she turned to drugs and then ran away from home as a teenager. Julia is healing from that experience, and she doesn’t need romance in her life to mess things up—at least not yet.
Describe yourself what is your worst and vest quality?
Probably my best and worst quality is the same thing. My independence. It keeps me strong and in control, but when I’m not in control, it keeps me from seeking help.
What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?
I don’t have one really. I don’t need people knowing things about me. I’m happy by myself. And I’m a good person. Actually, that’s probably it, I guess. That I’m a good person. (Though I also wish Kathy would get a clue and realize that I don’t want to work in the nursery.)
What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?
After you read my story, it won’t be a secret anymore J
What are you most afraid of?
Slipping back into the world of Meth.
What do you want more than anything?
I want a place to call my own. I want to be in charge of my own life. I don’t want some man telling me what to do. I want to accept God’s forgiveness.
What is your relationship status?
Ha, ha. Single, of course! At least at the beginning of my story.
How would you describe your sense of fashion?
Shoes should be practical. I’m modest and keep my shoulders covered. Because I work in a construction office I’m usually in jeans and a blouse, but I wear a nice dress to church.
How much of a rebel are you?
When I was a teenager I did drugs. Then I snuck out the window and ran away from home. I’ve been on my own ever since. But now, not so much a bad one. I’m trying to get my life in order. I just bought a house. That’s a very unrebellious thing to do.
What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?
I got a bookkeeping certificate from the community college. Considering I did it on my own and it got me my job that got me the savings for the down payment on my cottage—yeah, it’s pretty big to me. And oh yeah, I’m twenty-two and I own a house—or at least the mortgage to one. That’s big too.
What is your idea of happiness?
Being off drugs, and loving the Lord.
What is your current state of mind?
At the beginning of my story I’m content, but that doesn’t last long.
What is your most treasured possession?
My cottage, which I mentioned earlier. I want nothing more than a place to call my own, and now I have that.
What is your most marked characteristic?
I’m quiet. A wallflower. A loner. I’ve learned to make it on my own, and I relish my independence.
What is it that you most dislike?
I’m not going to say my dad … no, I’m not. And I’m not going to say that it’s what I did to him. Not going to say that either.
Which living person do you, most despise?
Well, unfortunately, on a bad day, that person would be me.
What is your greatest regret?
Oh, ha, ha. Read my story. I’ve got a doozy.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Loyalty, truth, and valor.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
My best friend is so different from me. She heads up the nursery at church, she is warm and caring and easy to smile. I most admire her openness, and it must be true, opposites attract.
Who is your favorite hero in fiction?
I like knights in shining armor. It’s my guilty pleasure.
Which living person do you most admire?
Ben Johnson, my boss. He’s a self-made man, you know.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
Well, you can’t change your past, but if you could I would. Otherwise, I just want to make that right and learn to get on with my life.
What is your motto?
Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. That’s from Proverbs (28:13) and it’s kind of like the theme of my life.

“Someone’s in the drive,” Gunner’s low voice filtered to him from downstairs.
“Shit,” Nico whispered under his breath as he closed the closet door.
He double timed it down the stairs and peeked out the front window. Larissa closed the passenger door to a sedan.
“What are we gonna do?” Gunner asked.
Nico thought fast. He pulled the beanie from his head and shook his long hair free.
“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, dude?” Gunner said.
“Take these,” he tossed the beanie and then the diary to Gunner.
Gunner peered down at the items with a blank look on his face. “What the hell am I supposed to do with these?”
“Hide.”
One of Gunner’s dark eyebrows raised.
“Just go along with me, okay?”
The man shook his head and headed to the back of the house.
Nico straightened his shirt and dashed to the cushioned seat facing the front door. As he sat down, Larissa opened the front door and switched on the light to see Nico sitting there with an alluring look on his face. She jumped and screamed, bringing her hands to her face.
“It’s about time you got here,” Nico said, as if he knew she had been on her way.
“What in God’s name are you doing in my home?” she screeched, her face turning red.
“I was waiting for you,” he said as he stood and strolled over to her. “Just kind of hoping we could finish what we started earlier today.”
The woman’s blue gaze became dreamy.
“Is everything all right here?” the man from the car stood on the porch.
“Hey, you must be Officer…” Nico said, extending his hand.
“Forge,” he answered, surveying both of them.
“That’s right, Officer Forge,” Nico laughed. “I’m Nico, the consultant in charge of this case. I can get her back to Mr. and Mrs. Bertram’s when she’s done here.”
The man regarded Larissa. “I’m fine,” she said.
The officer nodded and returned to his car. Nico watched the vehicle back out of the driveway and make its way down the street, and then shut the door.
He swiveled back to Larissa, reaching for her waist. “Now, where were we before we were so rudely interrupted?”
Larissa’s red polished fingers rose to his wide shoulders. “I think we were right here.” Her lips came up hard against his. Past her shoulder, he saw Gunner peek around the corner. Nico raised his eyebrows and Gunner rolled his eyes and disappeared again.
Nico broke free and, with a sly smile, took her hand and led her upstairs.
They made it to the landing, and she spun him around and started unbuttoning his shirt. He walked backward to the double doors leading to the master bedroom.
“I have wanted to taste you—all of you—from the first moment I laid eyes on you,” she said, her voice breathless.
“Do I taste as good as you imagined?” They made their way through the doorway. He spotted Gunner spying around the top of the stairs.
“I don’t know yet. I think I need to take more samples.”
“Have at it,” he said with a laugh.
She pushed him backward onto the bed.
“Whoa,” he said. “Hold on, wildcat.”
Larissa straddled him and growled like a cat and then hissed. Nico kept his smile pasted on his face.
Okaaayy.
On the other side of the open doorway, Gunner’s shoulders shook and he doubled over with laughter.
Asshole.
Nico moved his hands to her waist and started undoing her belt.
Larissa bent over and ravished his mouth, invading him. She moved to his ear where her tongue slathered him. He stopped a repulsive shudder from racking his body.
When his palms found her ass to bring her jeans down, he nearly sagged in relief, finally finding what he’d been searching for. He slipped her cell phone free from her back pocket. Then she sat back onto his thighs and pulled her t-shirt over her head, undid her bra clasp, and threw them both to the floor. Her breasts bounced free, and she put her hands on them and lifted them up.
“Do you like?” she asked with a coy smile.
Nico pushed the cell under his thigh. “Beautiful, darling.”
She leaned over him so her breast hung above his face. He wrapped his left arm around her waist, yanked her closer, and took a pink nipple in his mouth. She moaned and breathed out dirty words.
Nico used his right hand to pull the phone free and waved it in the air at Gunner. He searched for the man from beneath Larissa’s armpit. Gunner finally appeared in his line of vision. He bent sideways with his hand on his chin. The man nodded, his eyebrows raised, as if what he viewed wasn’t a half-bad performance.
Nico, with the cell still in his outstretched hand, lifted his middle finger at him. Gunner opened his mouth in mock shock, placed a hand on his waist, and wagged his index finger at him with the other hand.
I’m going to fucking kill him.
Nico flicked the phone at him and Gunner caught it. With a two finger salute, he about-faced and left the room.
Character Name:
Nico Finnegan
Character Bio:
Nico was born in Belfast in January of 1832. His human mother died of cholera soon after and his father, an Anathergian immortal warrior, brought his son under his wing and taught him to become a warrior. He spent much of his youth traipsing across Europe until Auden, the Anathergian king, took notice of his talents and asked Nico to become part of his staff. Since then Nico has trained many Anathergians in the art of combat and weaponry.
Describe yourself what is your worst and best quality?
I’m an immortal warrior, so I tend to be handy in a fight, or in a war. Whichever you prefer. I don’t believe I have any bad traits. At least, none I deem noteworthy.
What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?
Nothing.
What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?
Now, if I told you that, then it wouldn’t be a secret. Besides, I think we should get to know each other a wee bit better before I start giving away secrets.
What are you most afraid of?
*gnashed teeth* Losing those I love. I’ve lost too many already.
What do you want more than anything?
World peace? Naaahhh.
What is your relationship status?
I have yet to find my Lifemate. Until that time, I’m flying free as a bird and loving as many ladies as I can find.
How would you describe your sense of fashion?
I like to dress classy, but casual. A bit of Kuegou, Maier, or maybe some Snyder.
How much of a rebel are you?
That depends on the situation. If I don’t agree with what you have to say, I’m not going to do what you ask. But, if someone’s life hangs in the balance (and it often does), there’s no room to screw around.
What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?
Surviving into immortality. Life wasn’t easy in Europe in the 1800s.
What is your idea of happiness?
Let’s see… It’s warm and moist…
What is your current state of mind?
Life is doing quite fine right now, thank you very much.
What is your most treasured possession?
I would normally say my katanas, but I have a cross with an emerald in the middle that belonged to my mother. So, yeah…
What is your most marked characteristic?
Well, there’s one, but unless we’re in private quarters, you aren’t likely to see it. So, I’d have to say my eyes. They’re often the first thing people notice… Probably because the right one is blue and the left one is gray.
What is it that you, most dislike?
Liars.
Which living person do you, most despise?
One particular Anathergian who hurt some people close to me.
What is your greatest regret?
I have no regrets.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
If he’s honorable.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Does she purr?
Who is your favorite hero in fiction?
I don’t do fiction.
Which living person do you most admire?
Auden, my king.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
Not a damn thing.
What is your motto?
Live life to the fullest until you drop from overload.

Excerpt
I turned quickly in the direction of the voice. Standing there in all of his glory and entourage was Patrick Malloy. His grey shirt had the top two buttons undone and his blazer matched his pants. His hair was in this incredible disarray, on any other man it would have looked unkept, but on him, it was sexy. His eyes, however, were black and his face was absent of emotion. The room seemed to grow very quiet as he waited for Kevin to answer his question. He then turned his attention to me. "Legs, care to elaborate?" I didn't know if it was the alcohol or because I was really pissed that Kevin was taking up air at the moment, but the fact that he couldn't say my name really pissed me the fuck off. "Okay, first of all, my name is not Legs, it's Christi. That shit just pisses me off to no end. I have a fucking name, Patrick, and I'd appreciate it if you'd fucking use it when you address me." The look on his face changed as I proceeded to stick my finger in his face, well more like his chest as he was considerable taller than myself. I watched as a tiny smirk began to form at the corner of his mouth. I didn't let him speak as I continued my word vomit. "This waste of fucking skin here is the father of my beautiful niece, Abigail, and the fucker knows it, too. He hasn't seen her in years and he refuses to pay one goddamn dime of court-ordered child support. So yes, Mr. Malloy, you have a low-life motherfucking dead-beat father working for you." His expression changed from the cocky smirk to now one of anger. I should have been afraid of this quick change, but in reality, I was starting to get turned on.About the Author

An innocent-sounding family reunion at an exclusive California beach resort turns into a weekend of murder, deceit, exposed secrets and unexpected intimate encounters.
John Peterson has it all: He’s a respected, successful Beverly Hills entertainment lawyer with a loving wife and grown son, the strikingly handsome young film director Joe Peterson. John also has a secret and he decides to gather his disparate family members at the elegant Hotel Del Moor in picturesque Linda Bella, California for some luxurious fun, togetherness and re-connecting before revealing his secret. Unbeknownst to the family, a brutal serial killer is lurking in the midst of all the wondrous festivities.

The man woke up next to victim number twenty. He had tied her firmly to the bedpost by her wrists and ankles, then passed out. She was nude, her eyes red from crying, her face had a petrified look on it. Her nose was also swollen and bloody from the repeated blows to the face.
He met her at a local watering hole. She said her name was Lisa, and she was beautiful – just the type. The man smiled, nodded, and feigned interest in her pathetic little life. As she was babbling on and on about how she was an aspiring actress, he reached in his front, right pocket and pulled out his trusty pills. He plopped them into her drink when she wasn’t looking. He sat back counting the minutes until the drug took effect.
Getting her out to a taxicab was so easy, the cab driver just figured she was some drunk bar slut, and she was. The man ordered the cab to take them a sleazy, roach infested motel in Alphabet City, a seedy neighborhood on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Once there, he took the young woman, tied her up, and raped her until the sun came up. As she started to come to, and realize what was going on, she started to cry out for help. In New York, a woman can scream and scream until her face turns blue – nobody would ever come. That was the beauty of all this, the man thought. Just in case she did holler, he duct-taped her mouth shut.
Now it was morning, and the man was bored. He got up, showered, and dressed. The woman looked at him, frightened and confused, as he pulled his jeans on. He checked his watch and realized he needed to move quickly. “See ya.” He sneered at her, and promptly walked out the door, leaving her tied and helpless. The man had a plane to catch.

Chapter Eleven: Seven Seeds of Summer
“Summer, this is only the beginning. The journey with me is far from over,” he said. I could hear the promise in his voice. I knew there was more. I knew that there was something more for me; I just didn’t understand it yet. I knew that there was still the journey of the underworld waiting for me— the gods and the souls. The stories that I thought were all just pretend.
“When are you going to take me down to your world? You took me. You have me. What are you waiting for?”
“I was waiting for you to recover,” he whispered. I heard him shift again in the chair and this time, I felt his hand on my wrist. His thumb was making light circles over my veins.
“You’re almost healed completely, and that’s good. If I had taken you down there the way you were, you wouldn’t have stood the chance of survival. Where I live, death dominates. You would have died.”
“And you wouldn’t have been able to do anything?”
“I’m only the ruler. I’m to protect the dead, not determine who lives or dies. The Fates decide that.”
“Why do you scare me?” I whispered after a long moment of silence. In his eyes I saw the truth, and saw the journey that he spoke of. There was much to be afraid of. I hadn’t meant to say it aloud, but it came out all the same. I saw his face more clearly, then. It was much closer than before. “I’m so scared, that I’m so drawn to you. I can’t help but want to be around you.”
“Yes…” he whispered. I felt his hands pull on both of my arms, lowering me to my knees. I was tucked in between his strong legs. He was warm, and much more than just a dark shadow. He was a dark Prince.
“Why have you done this to me?” I heard my voice shake, and tears started to fall down my cheeks.
“You haven’t guessed already?” he asked with concern. I felt his hands on my face and his breath was on my lips. His fingers were cool and rough, yet soft and warm, gentle and familiar. I wanted him to never stop touching me, and the thought scared me. I had no control over my thoughts, or my body. I felt my hands creep up onto his shoulders; my fingers twisted themselves into his long, black hair.
“Just tell me. Please tell me,” I begged. I needed to hear it. I needed to be sure that I wasn’t dreaming. He wasn’t a dream, and this wasn’t just a dream world that I was living in.
“Summer, the pomegranates? The paintings you drew of me? You’re drawn to me; I mean, look around you! You’re in Greece! You’re in the very setting of your own Greek story!”
“I know, I know!” Tears began to pour onto his fingers, and I tried to wipe them away. As I did, I felt him tip my chin up toward his face. I wanted this. I wanted this so badly. I wanted his lips on mine. I had dreamt about it, even before he had been real in front of me. My breath was asking to be kissed, and a moment later his lips crushed against mine. It was real. His hands were in my hair, and mine were tousled in his. He smelled like the beach, my beach, and it brought more tears to my eyes. He was my beach, my home, and my life. He was breathing air into me, giving me the will to do the unthinkable with him— to go beyond my human world, and enter his immortal one. He smelled like the waves, and the earth. A mixture of everything. I wanted to be consumed by him, live underneath his soft skin and exist through the crust of my old paints. He gently pushed me back, watching me as I struggled to keep my eyes open.
“I don’t know how to make it any clearer to you.” His eyes were wide and serious, and I knew all the answers were in the kiss. I knew what he was trying to say. I knew what I needed to know. I just didn’t want to accept it. How could this be happening to me? Me, of all the people in the world, of all the girls who existed, he picked me. My lips felt empty and cold without his there. Now that I had a taste of him, I wanted more. I wanted to grab his shoulders and press his lips against mine again, and take the heat and the life he offered.
“Do you need to sit on the bed?”
“Yes,” I murmured quickly, pushing his chest away, trying to regain my mind, my balance, and my pulse as I sat on the coverlet. I felt the kiss flow through my body, sending shivers down my spine. The kiss has shaken me; caused me to feel as if I were falling into tiny pieces that would fit so perfectly in his hand. Did he know he was my first kiss? I felt his hand grab my wrist and he gently pushed me down onto the bed. I didn’t know what to say, and I waited for him to speak, but he reflected the same silence.
“Why did you do that?” I whispered shakily, touching my lips with my finger tips and glanced at him. He stood silently in front of me. I could feel his dark gaze burning into my skin. I knew that whatever answer he was going to give me wouldn’t be the truth, or the answer that I wanted to hear.
“I think you should go to bed now, Summer,” he whispered softly.
Character Name: Hades
Character Bio: **This is strictly for the story of Seven Seeds of Summer. The Myth of Hades differs from culture and time period** Greek God of the Underworld. He is one of the three brothers (Zeus and Poseidon) who rule some part of the world. He is the guardian of the Underworld and holds the responsibility of helping the spirits of the earth transport from one side to the other. As found in the myth of Hades and Persephone, he finds his wife and kidnaps her to his lair, where they grow to love each other. When his brother Zeus tells Hades that he must return Persephone to her mother, Hades and Persephone devise a way for her to return to him with the seeds of a pomegranate. One year, Demeter never returns Persephone to him, and he begins a centuries’ search for his missing bride. On the beach of St. Judith, Rhode Island, Hades finds a young girl named Summer, who turns out to be much more than his reincarnated bride.
Describe yourself what is your worst and best quality?
I suppose most people would think my worst quality is my profession. Being the Lord of the Underworld isn’t something that most humans find appealing or welcoming. My temper, over the years, certainly hasn’t been the best quality of mine either. It’s hard for me to think of a quality that I deem “the best.” I suppose one could say that I’m not hard on the eyes. Summer would say that I can be kind, if I so choose to be.
What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?
I’m not evil. I’m not this grotesque creature that lives in the darkness. I am very much real, just as any sort of human being is real. I am capable of love, of feeling emotions that others feel. I do wish to remain being feared by man-kind, just as they fear my brothers, but I am not a villain.
What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?
My longings. When I lost Persephone, I went through a long trial of grief and loss. I did not allow anyone to know the pain that I bore and held deeply within myself. There was a rage I tried to control, a storm that built and grew over the years, during the time that she would have been returned to me, but did not.
What are you most afraid of?
I’m not afraid of anything.
What do you want more than anything?
A chance of happiness – as most any soul wishes for. I have all the power and all the wealth one could wish for, but it does not bring happiness. I might even be a worshipped God in the eyes of those who believe in me, but adoration and fear are two very separate things. I would wish to see the look that I saw once in Persephone’s eyes, and the look that I seem to find in Summer’s eyes, always.
What is your relationship status?
Some would say that I am married. I’ve bounded myself to Persephone’s soul, whether it is with her, or her reincarnated self, Summer. I’ve made a bond with her that will transcend time.
How would you describe your sense of fashion?
While I tend to wear whatever it is that the humans are wearing, I do very much enjoy the robes of the Underworld. There’s a source of power that I find in my robes that I certainly cannot find in a pair of trousers or jeans, and a shirt with one of those ties.
How much of a rebel are you?
I am the God of the Dead after all. How much more “rebel” can you get?
What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?
Other than locking The Titans away, I would have to say. . Persephone. Finding her - finding a sort of happiness with her. I never thought I’d ever be destined for happiness.
What is your idea of happiness?
Being in control of things. Being in control of my Kingdom. Knowing what exactly is going on at all times. And I suppose, seeing Summer smile. I do enjoy her smiles and her laughter. A mixture of being in control and slightly, out of control with Summer.
What is your current state of mind?
I’d like to say sane.
What is your most treasured possession?
I’ve never admitted this to anyone, but I would probably have to say either the ring that Persephone and I exchanged, or even the Pomegranate tree that grows here in the Underworld; a symbol of return; a promise of return if you will. While I go about my duties as the Lord of the Dead, there was a promise of knowing my life source was going to return.
What is your most marked characteristic?
Are we trying to ask if I’m a marked man? Because, indeed. I am. Marked in the sense of cruelty? Yes. Marked in the sense of pain? Yes. I am all of these.
What is it that you, most dislike?
Zeus. I hate him. While he is my brother, he’s betrayed me in a way that I could and never will forgive him.
Which living person do you, most despise?
Oh, this is easy. Demeter. While she is my “sister” and now .. “mother-in-law” . . I can’t stand her. Perhaps this is normal in both roles as Brother and Son-In-Law.
What is your greatest regret?
Being as cruel as I have been.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Strength. The way they hold themselves. It shows their determination. It shows what they expect from the world, and what should be expected. I think all men should hold themselves to a standard that seems formidable.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Determination. I admire Summer’s determination. The way she juts her chin out when she wants to prove me wrong; when she has something to say that is so important. I enjoy the smell of her hair, and how soft she feels. I think I enjoy the power and softness of her - I admire it.
Who is your favorite hero in fiction?
: I once saw a collection of these things called “movies” of super-heroes, and while they were all interesting, saving the world and such, I couldn’t ever say I had a favorite. Nothing beats Greek and Roman Warriors like “300.”
Which living person do you most admire?
Summer. Perhaps its a cliche thing to say, and perhaps a series of “ohhs” and “awws” will arise from this, but I’d say, Summer. She has a strength that not very many people have. And she tolerates me - that says something.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
Perhaps - to be human. Like her. . Perhaps.
What is your motto?
I don’t have one, though, Summer says it should be “Like a Boss.” Whatever that means.
