Comic Con 2013 Post 1

This is an old post I guess I forgot to actually publish. lol So here you:

Hi *waves*I’m in full-on recovery mode today – lots of sleep, still achey feet, a little worse from the wear and tear, and my laptop has been damaged, but it was all worth it. All of it. Worth it! And I’d do it again.

What a crazy, amazing life I lived at Comic Con 2013 this year. Since my laptop is not working properly and the tech can’t come out until tomorrow, this post will be short and sweet. I will share all of my adventures with you in Post 2.

I want to mention first and foremost that I have the most amazing friends. I’m fortunate to have such wonderful people in my life who not only support me, but accept me unconditionally as I am – carrots and all.

Just a preview of my trip to Comic Con, here’s a view from our hotel room:

It was the fabulously beautiful Grand Hyatt Hotel near the convention center. This was the room we got through the infamous CC hotel lottery.

This is the cutest bookstore in Seaport Village. Upstart Crow was so kind to us before, during, and after our book signing. The weather was beautiful and the patio full of great people and happiness. Thank you to all who came out to support Ruth Clampett, Daisy Prescott, and myself. It meant so much and touched me to see all of your smiling faces.

2013 was Awesome. Really, it was. So much goodness packed into the last twelve months that it’s almost hard to remember it all. With four novels released, two more done or almost done, three novellas published it’s been busy. I can’t say I’ll always be able to publish that many, but I’ve already got more planned for next year.

Traveling became a priority with signings in Orlando, Las Vegas, Houston, San Diego and a Disney cruise. It was so amazing and I met so many incredible people on my journeys. I have a few planned for 2014 already like Austin, New Orleans, Orlando, San Diego, and a family vacation yet to be determined. I find traveling renews my spirit and expands my mind in the most wonderful way.

In my personal life, 2013 was lucky 13 for me and the sweet hubs. I’m so fortunate to have someone who not only supports me and my dreams but also believes in me so much. My children – what a blessed Mommy I am. I look at these two boys in awe everyday. They’re smart and clever and funny. Not only can I see a little of my hubs and a little of me in their sweet faces, but older generations as well. It’s just amazing to me how they carry such long forgotten heritage and traits of our ancestors into the future. How cool is that.

My friends are my family too.I’m blessed to have so many wonderful friends in my life, some have been here a lifetime, some a few years, and some are new. I love you all. This year holds so many amazing adventure ahead for us.

Resolutions can be tricky. I realized a few years ago that resolutions are set up to be broken and I started just making life goals that weren’t attached to the negativity of failing. It’s not about one wrong slip and it’s all blown. It’s about making changes where you can succeed even with a little slip here and there.

A lot of my goals are similar to most peoples, but I do like to add in a challenge here and there beyond the basics, more personalized for me. Here are a few life goals, in no particular order:

~ Get back to exercise. I used to be so good. I need to find my way back

~ Drink more water. Like exercise, I used to be good at this.

~ Spend more time with my family.

~ Organize my home. One room and closet a month.

~ Publish five books. I’m just going for it and hitting this goal hard.

~ Sell movie rights to at least one of my books. This would be a dream come true so I’m putting it out into the universe.

~ Travel for fun and for work.

~ Make a new bucket list and accomplish one thing on it. I felt pretty accomplished after sky-diving which was on my list before. Time to conquer something else.

~ Visit friends more – near and far.

~ Work from a schedule.

So I’m sharing these today and I’ll make more along the road of 2014. But whether we accomplish these things or not, won’t change who we are and the potential we have inside of us. Just pick yourself up and start anew. The world is ours to find the beauty and reward within. To quote Dr. Seuss ~ Go move mountains.

6. Stila StayAll DayLiquid Eyeliner ($20) – I’ve tried the cheaper versions with similar shape, but they all fail in comparison to this one so I just treat myself to the best one. The shape of the pen makes it easy to use and the color goes on smoothly.  It’s pure win.

7. Jane Tran Bobby Pins ($10- 12) – These came in my Popsugar Box for October and I love them. They are pretty and also fit snuggly to your head to keep those fly-aways at bay.

8. Super soft/super cozy socks($4 -7) – I wear these socks all the time right now because Texas is unseasonably cold and I’m just not built for freezing temps. These socks make cute stocking stuffers too. I just treated myself to a pair the other day from Old Navy that have a cute dog wearing glasses on them. Who can resist animals in glasses. Can’t wait to wear them.

9. Trader Joe’s Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Butterscotch Caramels ($3.49) – If you follow me online then you probably know I have an addiction to these. I buy 4 bags at a time since I don’t get over to TJ’s that often. They’re that good. I have fears about running out of them. haha They’re delish. Trust me.

10. Books (Free – $8.99) – Did you know you can gift ebooks on Amazon and Barnes & Noble? You can, which also means you can list your most anticipated reads on your Christmas List as well. All the gift-giver will need is your email address. It’s that easy.

 

Here’s what’s on my Christmas List this year

1. Cast Iron dutch oven ($30 – 350) – My heart goes to the original of Le Creuset, but actually I’m not that picky. Martha Stewart and others make great versions that cost a fraction of the Le Creuset price.

2. Popsugar Box – 3 month subscription

3. Perfume – I’m loving both Kate Spade Live Colorfully and Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede right now. I’m happy with either.

4. A flat whisk. I know it’s not exciting to most, but having 1 or 2 of these will totally rock my whisk loving world.

6. Gift cards/gift certificates. Coffee, itunes, the stores I like, massages and more. I love all of them.

I always struggle to come up with a lengthy list and then my family finds things like whisks I’ve listed and yeah, not the most exciting for them to buy. But sometimes the simple things that make our lives easier, even if just scrambling eggs, are the best gifts.
