There are plenty of obstacles along the way to publishing your work and most of them include rejection. Also keep in mind that, publishing involves a lot of "hurry up and waiting" too. You get a good response to your query and they ask for pages. Yeah! Now you have to wait for them to read the pages. They ask for a full manuscript. Yeah! Now you have to wait for a response to your full. It can test one's resolve and one's nerves but its the name of the game. Those who succeed are not only tenacious but also have the patience of Job!(less)

But when it comes to work I know will be published, I'm working on a new series about a family that lives in the fictional town of Chesterton, Virginia, where my current Gibbons Gold Digger series takes place. It involves a lot of drama, intrigue... I call it my black version of Downton Abbey and my editor calls it the book version of The Haves and the Have Nots. This one is definitely more of a women's fiction work than romance, which is what I usually write. But I love the characters and their dynamics. I'm having fun writing it.(less)

Prologue

Lust and Loyalty

Hospitals weren’t usually happy places, especially the Wilson Medical Center ICU where many of the patients were hovering near death’s door and a pall of sickness seemed to hang over every surface. But today the ICU staff at least tried to be festive in honor of the new nurse’s birthday. Meredith, the plump nurse with the springy red curls and freckles,

Stephanie Lahart
“Your personal thoughts carry so much power. It’s important to be mindful of what you spend your time thinking about. Make sure that your thoughts aren’t defeating you or your purpose in life. Fear, doubt, and a negative attitude will continually hold you back. Your journey may be a bumpy one, but I encourage you to never give up! Giving up only does one thing: It keeps you from ever knowing what could have been. Don’t allow your uncertain attitude to be the reason why you don’t succeed. It’s a very sad thing to live your life with regrets. So therefore, giving up is NOT an option for you. Don’t even entertain those thoughts. KEEP MOVING FORWARD, no matter what!”
Stephanie Lahart
