TALK ABOUT IT TUESDAY_UNFAIR PUNISHMENT OR JUSTICE BEING SERVED?
Another house fire resulting in the death of two children, and three others injured. Why? Because they were left home alone, while their mother worked. More often than not we see these stories populating the top news reports. Children are being left alone to watch their siblings and the results can sometimes be devastating, not always, but sometimes. Why are they being left alone, we question? In this particular instance, the mother had to work and had no one to watch the children.Sure the neighbor popped up on TV claiming that she would do anything to assist her. But everyone wants to sound good in hindsight. I don't know if the woman actually offered to assist her or not, but it is often in these cases we see the well-meaning neighbors come forward with their good intentions. My question is, where are all these well-intentioned people during the time of need.
The four and five year old children died in the house fire, the ten-year-old child is on life support, and the other two have been released from the hospital. The police charged the mother with "murder." Of all the charges to pin on her, they chose murder. This charge is one of the most serious ones because it implies the crime was committed with intent. When you hear this charge, it appears as though the police are implying that the mother tried to make this happen. We know that the definition of murder is that it is an unlawful killing, with malice "aforethought," a premeditated action.
Now, I know they have to conduct an investigation but I think more often than not, some of these women are catching a bad rap. Okay, the kids shouldn't have been left home alone, yet, so many single women are struggling to provide a living for their families. When there is no support system in place, this isn't easy. They are making the decisions they believe to be in the best interest of their families. It's easy for some of us to make a judgment about others, especially when we haven't walked a day in their shoes. In this instance, my heart goes out to the children and the mother. My heart breaks that she found herself in a situation where she would have to make this decision. I also find sorrow in the fact that she is suffering the loss of her children, while being charged with murder for their deaths. There is enough punishment in the fact that her decision caused the loss of her children. And what's more, she can't be with the others to console them now, or even be by her child's side who is currently on life support.
My prayers go out to the entire family and all the single mothers and fathers who are doing the best they can to provide for their families. How do we begin to put support systems in place to help those in need and to make them feel comfortable seeking that help?

A TRIBUTE_NELSON RAMSEY, JR._MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY MOMENT
“You can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you.” – Frederick Buechner
I am so thankful that we spent a week in Cincinnati during Thanksgiving, with my husband's family. There was moments of healing, forgiveness, and clearing up misunderstandings. Some issues remained to be worked out, but the healing process had begun. This past Saturday, my brother-in-law, Nelson Ramsey, Jr. passed away, 1 week before his 48th birthday. As we reflect on his life, my husband and I are both thankful that the family came together again before his passing. It was expected and not expected. He had been sick for such a long time, but it still came as a surprise. On Thanksgiving Day, he enjoyed his family, he joked, and he was extremely happy his two younger brothers had returned home for a holiday visit. And then Saturday evening we received the unexpected phone call. We find peace in knowing he is resting and no longer suffering. We are thankful that we were blessed to see him once more. We praise God for His wonderful blessings.
Love your family today, forgive one another for wrongs, and clear up any misunderstandings. He hasn't promised us tomorrow, let alone the next breath.

Until we meet again, we love you...

NANOWRIMO UPDATE_WRITER WEDNESDAY
There you have it ladies and gentlemen, my word count is 11,253. Okay, so I'm not doing so great with my nanowrimo project. But have I given up? Not quite. I've actually reverted to working on another project that I was completing prior to nanowrimo. And that's what I'm going to share with you today. So before you bash me read on...
EXCERPT FROM A WOMAN'S CHOICE:
I was sitting in my husband’s hospital room reading a book early that Sunday morning when the door opened. I sat on the left side of his bed, surrounded by flowers and hidden by the bed, which was lifted high. I couldn’t see the person who entered the room, which was unusual. Whenever anyone walked in I could often see their head and chest above the bed. But as I listened I heard a distinct noise. Suddenly it dawned on me when the squeaking stopped that it was the sound of a wheelchair.
I rose slowly from my seat by his side and walked around the bed. I was still unseen as I stood there with a look of disgust on my face. I took in the light skinned woman, whose skin was the color of creamy coffee. She wore her long, brown hair in a wavy braid down her back. She was bent over in a wheelchair with her head lying on his bed. Her shoulders shook as she cried. I chose not to say a word, not because I wanted to give her a private moment with my husband, but because I needed to gather my thoughts.
I remained that way for almost two minutes and I couldn’t take it anymore. “Kendra?” I had never met her or even seen pictures of her before, but I knew who she was.
She turned her head around, with her eyes widened in surprise.
“I’m Ambiance, Eric’s wife.” I stood with my arms folded across my breasts, my face lined with fury.
She sniffed, wiping her arms on the sleeves of her robe. “I know who you are. Can I just have a moment with him please?” Her voice was somewhat deep, what most would probably call sensual. I couldn’t believe she had the gall to ask me if she, his mistress, could have a moment alone with my husband.
“Don’t you think you’ve had more of them than you were entitled to, Kendra? I always thought about all the things that I would say to you if I ever met you. I wondered what you looked like, what you offered him that I couldn’t, and so many other things. And now that I see you, I’m not impressed at all. Actually I feel sorry for you. A woman who can’t get her own man and has to sink to the level of sharing another woman’s man is no woman at all in my book. You have no self-respect, no love for your fellow sisters, and no self-worth. I pity you because until you’ve learned how to love yourself you can’t truly love anyone else. And don’t tell me you love yourself because if you did you would have placed yourself in a much better situation than this. You have to settle for his leftover love,” I spat out at her in anger. FALLING INTO FOREVER_A BOOK REVIEW
Today's book review takes a stroll down romance lane into a little town called Wintersage.OVERVIEW:
The Silk Sisters—longtime friends Janelle, Sandra and Vicki—have turned their business savvy into a top-tier event agency. And in the wealthy enclave of Wintersage, Massachusetts, there's an abundance of lavish parties, society drama and longing hearts to keep them busy.
Growing up among the powerful and privileged, formal-wear designer Sandra Woolcott learned early on to never show weakness—just smile and hold your head high. And ten years ago, when her young heart was broken, she learned just how strong she really was….
When Isaiah Jacobs left for the Naval Academy, he said he didn't want to hold Sandra back—although he really wanted to hold on to her forever. Sandra let him go, masking her hurt with a glittering social life and career. Now Isaiah is back in Wintersage to care for his ailing father. And when he and Sandra meet again, it's all they can do not to fall for each other once more.
But they've built such different lives, and so many years have passed—is their long-ago love worth the risk? Can they bury the pain of the past and build a promising future together?
**I actually won the book, an owl mug, and pumpkin spice coffee in a contest along with some other gifts from Phyllis Bourne. However, those factors did not influence my review.
REVIEW:
This romantic novel was the most thrilling love story of the season.
Sandra Woolcott is utterly dedicated to business as a high-end fashion designer for the town's elite. She has no time for love or another broken heart, but her mind is focused on taking her business to a national level.
Isaiah Jacobs is simply returning home to care for his sick father for a short while. His future plans are firmly established in pursuing his dreams of becoming an artist. He will not let anything deter him from his goals again.
Both Sandra and Isaiah are caught off guard when they run into one another at a harvest fair. Determined to be the mature adults they've become, Sandra and Isaiah realize they can carry on a friendship and leave the past relationship behind them. But the more time they spend together, the more they want to explore the parts of their relationship they left untouched as teenagers. Hearts cannot choose whom they will love, and such is the case for these two.
I enjoyed the strength of his character as a man. He was mature and steadfast in pursuing his goals, yet, not so stubborn that he would lose what he really wanted out of life. I appreciated the feistiness of Sandra's character and how she was able to balance everything she had going on in her life, and still pursue her dreams.
This book set the tone for my favorite season, Autumn. Phyllis Bourne did a wonderful job setting the stage of the town's autumn season, giving detailed descriptions of the backdrop of the story. She wove a story with characters whose personalities were endearing and vibrant, allowing you to become easily connected with them and their stories. Her imagery of the town and the characters were so descriptive that you could easily see this book as a Lifetime Movie, or a holiday movie on the Hallmark Channel.
You will find yourself rooting for the off stories of characters such as, Jordan, Octavia Hall, and Vicki. If you've never been a romance fan, I encourage you to start your love affair with, Falling into Forever.

IS IT A LAUGHING MATTER?_MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY MOMENT
thecaremovement.com"Laughter is what makes a home warm, and what makes a work place human."
Catherine Pulsifer
Life's obstacles can challenge all that is good and righteous within us. Sometimes we don't know up from down, and we feel like giving up. There are even times when it doesn't appear as if anything will ever improve. Yet, it's these times when we must rely on faith. You know..."substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 You have to believe that life will improve and that all you're going through has a purpose for your life. A greater purpose than you can understand at this moment in time.
If you can allow yourself the opportunity to smile just a little despite your circumstances, to laugh in spite of what you're going through, your perspective will change. Laughter will bring joy to the bleakest of hearts. Laughter not only warms the home and makes the workplace human, but it lightens the load that you carry. It also touches those around you.
We never know what others around us are going through, or what they've been through. But I know one thing for certain. There have been times when things were so difficult and I've struggled to keep it together, and someone's smile or laughter, completely changed my outlook of my circumstances.
Share your heart today, and brighten someone's life by sharing a smile and a laugh.

NANOWRIMO_WRITER WEDNESDAY
As many of you may already know, November 1 kicked off the official start of Nanowrimo, or National Novel Writing Month, as it's known in author circles. The entire purpose of the movement is to get people writing and the goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days.
DEADLINES:
No sweat you say? Yeah, that's the same thing I always say until I have an actual deadline and goal in
front of me. Why is it that when we set goals it's so difficult to achieve? Yet, when we just sit down and do it with no plan or deadline ahead of us, it's the easiest feat in the world to accomplish. If I plan to sit and write, that's when my children have projects to complete such as, "Solving World Hunger," or "Determining the Genius of Einstein." That's also when my husband needs my help in finding world peace. So of course writing gets put on the back burner, and I become cranky. Not this month...or at least we shall see.
DISCIPLINE:
I can sit down and write 50,000 words in no time on any given month. Until that actually becomes a goal. So this month I am doing Nanowrimo for the sole purpose of learning to discipline myself. It takes a lot of discipline to be able to schedule out times to write and adhere to. This is a difficult goal in normal times, but it's even more difficult since my family has been going through a new challenge. But we shall survive! I am such a spontaneous person that if I can accomplish this and stay organized, I'll be able to accomplish anything else I want to. And hopefully make the hubby proud.
OUTLINE OR NOT TO OUTLINE:
The other difficult part of my task is that I am a bona fide pantser! Yes, I admit I'm a self-professed, fly by the seat of my pants "pantser" at heart. In my last couple of novels I have attempted to use an outline, but it doesn't come out anything like the traditional outline. My outline serves the purpose of keeping in mind whose personality is what, who likes coffee, and who is a die-hard soda freak, and whose zooming whom. Other than that, the story always takes on a life of its own and I never know how it's going to end, until it ends. So with that being said, I definitely have to let my characters' personalities take over for the next 30 days to accomplish this mission. I'll pray that my family's feelings won't get hurt if I look up from the computer and it's not mom that they see, but super freak, or psycho girl.
I'll try to keep you updated on my writing status. But I can't promise anything. Remember at the point of writing this I am neither organized or disciplined. So maybe I'll remember to throw in how many words I've written each day and how on track I am to my 50,000 word goal in 30 days. And maybe I won't. You'll just have to tune in and see.

WHAT HOME REALLY MEANS_MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY MOMENT
www.emoov.co.uk"The more one does and sees and feels, the more one is able to do, and the more genuine may be one's appreciation of fundamental things like home, and love, and understanding companionship." Amelia EarhartToday is moving day again! We're leaving one hotel for another. We've been here for almost 5 weeks; we're only one day shy of that. And while we were hoping our next stop would be an apartment complex until the construction on our home is complete, it won't be. However, this next hotel is very much like an apartment complex and less like a hotel. I'm excited to have more space than we've had this past five weeks, but still saddened we'll be a little further from home.
I can't wait until we return to our house and our lives return to our new "normal" we're learning to create since the fire. But as I begin to reflect on the upcoming holidays and all that we cannot do, I also begin to be thankful for all that we can do. I look around at my family, the laughter, the joy, the arguments, the struggles, strength and comfort and I'm thankful. I would rather be stuck in a hotel with the four of them, than be all alone in that house.
I love home, but I am completely aware that home is not the bedrooms, bathrooms, office space, the other rooms, all the walls, or yard space that make up what I've considered home. No, home is truly where my heart is, with those four wonderful people that I call family...Professor X, Gambit, Storm, and Beast.
I implore you to make home and those you consider home the most important aspect of your life. Appreciate them while you still have time. Be blessed!

WRITER WEDNESDAY_SANCTUARY
Today Writer Wednesday brings to you my fellow author friend, Ms. Te` Russ. Te` from the big ole state of Texas, known for creating characters with big ole hearts, joins us to share her latest work, "Sanctuary." OVERVIEW:
When Sienna Townsend finally gets the courage to leave her abusive fiancé, she never expects to end up stranded on the side of the road in a small town in Texas. Her plan is to gas up her car and keep on driving as far away from Arizona and her bad memories as possible.
But a few friendly faces and kind hearts convince Sienna that perhaps Coalton is exactly where she is meant to be.
Kevin Baker has come home to give his sister away at her wedding. He's surprised when he runs into the mysterious beauty in his tiny hometown. He can see the shadows of hurt in her eyes and something draws Kevin to Sienna, filling him with the urge to take care of her.
When Sienna moves into an old rundown home, Kevin offers to help her renovate. But they soon find that he is repairing more than her broken home....he also begins to repair her broken heart.
EXCERPT:
"So how are you liking Coalton so far?"
Sienna heard Kevin's muffled voice and looked around trying to find him.
She covered her mouth to stifle a gasp when she saw him under the sink, in those tight jeans again. She picked up her coffee and took a sip to clear her dry throat.
"It's definitely not like Arizona," she said.
"I bet," Kevin said. "Did you let your family know where you were?"
Sienna exhaled as she looked down into her coffee mug. She absentmindedly swirled the spoon around as she said, "There was no need."
"Won't they worry about you?"
"No," she said, becoming sad. "It's just me really...Pete was..."
I'm the only family you have, the only one whose ever loved you and who ever will love you...
"Who's Pete?"
Sienna had realized that she'd squeezed her eyes shut. She'd been trying to get Pete's words out of her head. She hadn't heard Kevin stop working under the sink and stand.
"You're shaking," Kevin said, taking a step toward her.
Sienna stepped backward and found herself pressed against the island. She turned around and sat her mug down. She shook her head and tried to speak, but the lump in her throat was too large.
"Is Pete your ex?"
She whirled around and glared at him.
"What did Ronnie tell you?" Sienna demanded.
"Only that you'd just gotten out of a bad relationship," he glanced down at her wrist, and the bruise that was nearly gone now. "It wasn't hard to figure the rest out on my own," Kevin said.
"I don't want to talk about this right now," Sienna said, sliding past him.
"Maybe it will help," Kevin said, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"I have to go and get ready for work," Sienna said, leaving the kitchen.
"Don't you want me to check out the shower first?"
"You can do it later, after I'm gone," Sienna said, before running up the stairs to her room then slamming the door shut. "Damn," Kevin swore, as the sound of Sienna's door closing echoed through the house.
One step forward, two steps back, he thought, shaking his head.
He wanted to kick himself.
When he asked about her family, she'd sounded so sad, that he stopped working and stood up, only to find her eyes closed, hand clutched around her mug and her body was shaking so bad, he thought she might faint.
It was obvious she was trying to block out a memory.
Asking about Pete being her ex had slipped out.
He'd wanted to reach out and wrap his arms around her, but he knew that wasn't wise; which was why his hands were now in his pockets, his nails digging into his palms.
The sound of the shower coming on nearly made him cover his ears as the loud banging sound came through the pipes. It was worse upstairs than it was in the kitchen.
That would definitely be the next thing he would work on. He went back to work under the sink and realized he would need some parts to fix it properly, but what he'd done would now would give her ears some temporary relief. He made a list on his phone of things he'd pick up later at the hardware store then went back outside to work on the loose floor boards of her porch.
He'd gotten a great deal of work done by the time he heard the screen door swing open. Kevin stopped and looked up at Sienna.
Damn she's beautiful, he thought to himself.
She opened her mouth to speak, then shut it. After another moment, she finally said, "Thank you for fixing the sink."
"It's not a permanent fix, I need to get a few things to make sure it stays mended."
"Let me know how much the costs are so I can pay you back," she said.
"Sienna–"
"I've got to go. Can you make sure you lock up before you leave?"
Now she was cutting him off.
"Of course," he said.
She breezed past him, and he wrapped his hand tighter around his hammer. Her fresh scent filled his nostrils.
"Sienna?" Kevin called out.
She stopped, and for a moment Kevin thought she wouldn't turn around, that she'd keep walking to her car. Finally she turned and she looked at him, waiting to hear what he had to say.
"If you change your mind and decide you want to talk...I'm a good listener."
She looked caught off guard by his comment. He watched her as she seemed to process what he'd just said, then gave him a slight nod, before turning around again to head to her car.
After she'd driven off, he continued staring in the direction she gone.
Eventually, he got back to work on the porch. He decided since he didn't have a key, he would come back another day to continue working on the pipes after he picked up the supplies he needed. Coalton was a fairly safe town, but he still didn't want to take any chances of leaving Sienna's house open while he made a quick trip to the hardware store. The pipes would have to wait.
He took his frustrations out on the wood on the porch with the hammer.
This Pete guy had really broken Sienna. But he could tell she was fighting to get her strength back.
And he wanted to help her do that, but he didn't know how.
If only hardware stores had supplies to mend a broken heart... ABOUT TE`:
Growing up an introvert, Te` Russ found solace in literary arts at an early age. She found reading to be a vehicle to broader horizons and writing a form of self-expression. She began writing love stories in her adolescent years as a way to expel her youthful thoughts of love into words. Since then she has gone from writing stories and thoughts of love in journals to attending college for journalism and falling in love, which has allowed those youthful words of love to blossom into a series of stories in her romance novels. Though she has an immense appreciation for the sheer smell that books collectively exert, she also has found balance to her introverted nature with adrenaline inducing activities. So if she does not have her nose pressed deeply into a book or her pen ticking through a pad, you may also find this mother of three jumping out of airplanes, cheering her husband on at the top of her lungs at MMA fights, buzzing down the interstate on the back of motorcycles, or kayaking.
