Writing Without Compromise

I’ve changed the tagline of my website to ‘Writing without compromise’, because one of the lessons I’ve had to learn as a writer is to be true to myself.Other people’s opinions have always mattered to me.

Torched is a young-adult contemporary novel, whilst Wavecrossed is described as "a young-adult paranormal novel about selkies, secrets, Tasers and kissing.

Inspiration and Wavecrossed

Andrea Lynn Colt is one of my favourite indie authors. I loved her first novel, Torched and was excited to read a preview copy of her new novel, Wavecrossed, which is released today. Wavecrossed is a young-adult paranormal novel about selkies, tasers, kissing and secrets.

We don't talk about that

There are a lot of topics that seem to be taboo in our society and a lot of those are very emotional ones: illness, death, addiction, childlessness, post-natal depression and so on. The problem is, not talking about these things can leave you feeling isolated.

Persistence

In 2007 I took up origami so I could help a friend run a Japan club at the school we both worked at. I quickly discovered it was a very addictive hobby. One of the first things I learnt to fold was a peace crane.

For better or for worse

You might as well apply marriage vows to writing, because it has its great times and its tough times – and you’re in it for life. After talking about how tough my (writing) life is currently, I thought I’d share the things that keep me in this game.

There’s always someone worse off than you…

If I had a pound (or a dollar) for every time I heard this gem, I’d be rich. I’d be able to pay my editor, illustrator and proofreader without batting an eyelid. Seriously, it’s the most useless, insensitive thing someone can say when you’re feeling down.
