Savour every moment

The route to my daughter’s new school takes me down a long hill, with a view straight over the city center. Yesterday was a cloudy day, but when I went to pick her up in the afternoon, a single ray of sunshine had managed to break through the clouds.

Broken Bargain pre-release tour - Spotlight on Monica La Porta

To kick off the tour, I’m welcoming Monica La Porta to my blog. Monica is the author of the Ginecean Chronicles and children’s illustrated book, The Prince’s Day Out. As well as being a talented and evocative writer, Monica is also a wonderful artist.

Don’t let fear cripple you

Everyone is afraid. I’m not talking about phobias here, I’m talking about a fear of failure. Everyone feels it and if someone tells you they don’t, they’re probably lying to cover up their fear.

I had every intention of writing this post before we moved, but everything got away from me: especially time.In the autumn of 1996, my parents drove me across to Lancaster with a car full of my belongings, so I could start University there.

This week I heard from two friends who had told people they were writers and subsequently got a negative reaction. Is it just me, or is that really sad?I used to be surrounded by people who doubted me.

Why I’m happy for my daughter to love Disney princesses

If there’s one thing my mother-in-law and I strongly disagree on, it’s Eleanor’s love of Disney princesses. Even my husband is doubtful, announcing in Tesco that Sophia the First is a rubbish role model for a young girl.
