We need to leave the towers we build for ourselves

In the opening of my first (published) novel, Trinity, Kiana has spent her entire life inside a tower, cut off from the rest of the world. If this sounds a little like Rapunzel, I can assure you the reasons are entirely different.

The answers I should give to those awkward questions people ask authors

Yesterday a link to a blog post from Electric Literature popped up on my Facebook feed: If strangers talked to everybody like they talk to writers. It's a very amusing post, so I heartily recommend you go and read it.

Hidden #3: Title, blurb and release date

The first two books in the Hidden series (Reaper's Rhythmand Broken Bargain) have received some lovely new reviews over the past few days. So I thought now was as good a time as ever to share the title, blurb and release date for the third book in the series.

I won't forget you

I was taking Eleanor to school this morning and she was playing on my iPad. She's figured out how to put my music on. 'Where Are You Now' came on and within a few lines had my eyes tearing up. It got me thinking.

Are authors unintentionally restricting one another?

I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from pretty much everything over the last couple of weeks, but especially from marketing and maintaining a social media presence. What I have been doing is thinking and I keep coming back to the same conclusion: social media isn’t the fantastic marketing tool that everyone claimed it to be twelve months ago.

K is for kryptonite

Imagine Superman without kryptonite. Let's face it, Superman is basically invincible. He's stronger than a speeding train, faster than a speeding bullet and… well, we all get the gist: he's basically unstoppable and unkillable.

J is for jelly (yes, really)

One of the things I'm doing at the moment is planning Eleanor's 5th birthday party. What started out as a "small birthday tea with a surprise visitor" is turning into a full blown party with a Frozen theme.

I is for inspiration

I'll admit I'm a little pushed for time today: entertaining my almost five year old, who is on school holidays; taking the puppy to the vets; shopping and birthday party prep. Therefore today's post might be a little bit of a cheat.

H is for home

Where do you consider home to be?My husband would say that home is anywhere, as long as he's with Eleanor and I. In other words, family makes a home. For a long time, I always counted home as Malaysia.

G is for grief

I apologise in advance, as this isn't going to be an amazingly upbeat post. I will try to keep it short, though. One of the key themes in the Hidden series is grief and how to deal with it. In Reaper's Rhythm, Kim and her family have to face the loss of her older sister, Charley.
