Breakfast With a Werewolf (pt 6)
Six days later…
Hunkered down in a thick coat, I did my best not to trip while we walked through the woods. The meeting spot for the pack sat far off the road, just in case. It took a half an hour of walking—or in my case stumbling—to get there. Up hill. Both ways. Okay, I wasn’t exactly feeling good about the plan. Nerves ate at my stomach.
Matthew bounded through the bushes on my left, swung around a small tree, and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. His smile made the orange-red of the suns...

Nothing At Stake
The tag line for the current season of True Blood is, “Everything’s at stake”. I, personally, feel lied to.
The things and people that they’ve put in harm’s way really don’t matter to fans. Oh no, Bill sold his undead soul to the vampire equivalent of an LSD trip. So fucking what? Bill isn’t all that interesting. He doesn’t have the backbone to be a leader–which made him laughable as the king of Louisiana last season. He’s been such an asshat to Sookie that she’s written him off. How are fans...

Breakfast With a Werewolf (pt 5)
During the drive home, doubt and I went through ten rounds of a knockdown drag-out fight. By the time I parked in the driveway, I’d changed my mind a billion times, and then talked myself into witnessing his transformation all over again. Okay, maybe solitude wasn’t what I needed.
But in the end, when faced with the prospect of never waking wrapped up in Matthew’s arms again; I knew what needed to be done.
Hours later we lay in bed together. Under my cheek Matthew’s chest rose and fell in time...

Lingering Emotions
Today is one of those days where I wake up, look at the calendar, and wish I could sleep through until tomorrow.
It is Dad’s birthday today. He’s been gone almost eleven years, but there are certain dates–today, October 16th (the day he passed), and Father’s Day–that still get to me.
The hardest part of losing Dad wasn’t so much the not seeing him part, or the hole he left in our lives. It was watching my sister fill that hole with negativity, self-abuse, and drugs. It was growing up and learni...

Ye Olde Booze Fund
Before I get to the idea behind this post, I’d like to point out that the last three television shows I watched marathon-style were Sons Of Anarchy, Mad Men, and Boardwalk Empire–all shows that involve heavy drinking.
It is only natural that I, a now published author (a profession that damn near requires inebriation), would look at these shows and think, “I wish I had their booze budget.” Seriously, have you seen any of them? All the lead characters do is drink, smoke, curse, and have sex. Occ...

Can You Ever Be Just Whelmed?
Oh True Blood…I tried to like you this week, I really did. But you insist on using tired, played out scenarios to try and sucker fans into feeling something for the characters again.
Quite frankly, I could care less if Bill or Eric get killed by Russell or any of their acid-tripping buddies in the Authority. I’ve said it before, the novels work because we get Sookie’s worry for everyone’s safety. Her concern drives the plot forward, often causing more harm than good, but hey, at least there is...

Breakfast With a Werewolf (pt 4)
“Who’s up next?” Mary asked as she resumed her seat.
The pregnant woman stood. I noticed she wasn’t quite to the stage where moving was a chore. Mary waved the other woman on.
“Go ahead, Mandy. If you could, please start with when you and Stephen decided to have a baby for our new folks.”
“We decided to try three years ago. At first neither of us thought anything was wrong. When month after month it didn’t happen, we’d just try again.” A faint blush colored her cheeks.
“But after a full year with...

True What?
I am going to be brutally honest, True Blood has lost me so much, I ended up crocheting through three-quarters of the newest episode. I did watch, but my full attention wasn’t devoted to what was happening on the screen.
Why?
Because the show has become utterly fucking predictable.
Even without seeing a good chunk of the action on the screen, I still knew who would do what, say what, and all that jazz. (No, there was not a musical moment, but there might as well have been for as far out in left...

Breakfast With a Werewolf (pt 3)
(Be sure to catch up with the story in Part 1 and Part 2.)
Downtown possessed as much life as a dead fish. Once beautiful buildings leaned dangerously towards deserted streets. A handful of newer buildings sprouted up in the last decade or so, but did little to restore the former glory of the area. The decrepit landscape did nothing to lift my dark mood. One small benefit to downtown being nearly deserted, no traffic. It would’ve taken me twice as long to drive north to the more popular part o...

All Over The Place
Kind of a catch up post… on top of the kinda catch up post I put up on Monday, when I visitedSkyla’s blog and doused it in fairy… nectar. Yeah, that’s what we’ll call it for now.
On Tuesday my good friend Quamaine Byrd(finally) posted the interview I did with him right before Be Ours Forever released.Head over there and give it a read. You can actually see the last strand of my sanity dangling over a flame. I found it kind of amusing.
Quick Be Ours Forever update: The print book is up for sale...
