Microsoft Edge steals your data from Google Chrome
Microsoft Edge is increasingly aggressively snatching your open tabs from Google Chrome in an attempt to get you to switch. The new Microsoft Edge has shown to be a good browser since its release in 2020, but Microsoft has never stopped aggressively pushing Edge over competing browsers, mainly Chrome. Google and Microsoft have been at odds over this matter for years; Microsoft even temporarily hid the Windows 11 default browser’s options.
The Verge reported that after updating a Windows computer, Microsoft Edge would instantly launch and display every tab open in Google Chrome on the same device. Even though Edge has never requested to sync data with Chrome and hasn’t been utilized on that computer. The same thing occurred on another machine after an upgrade and a system restore. Another strategy Microsoft is using, which is starting to receive notice this week, is to have Edge copy all of your open tabs from Google Chrome so you may resume where you left off if you end yourself in Edge.
Transferring data from Chrome to Edge each time browser is usedWith the most recent Windows upgrades, Microsoft appears to be making greater use of an already-existing feature that transfers data from Chrome to Edge each time the browser is used.
Users of Microsoft Edge can “import browser data on each launch.” Although users can disable the feature through Edge’s settings (edge://settings/profiles/importBrowsingData), Microsoft is now forcing users to enable it following Windows updates.

Zach Edwards on Twitter/X found that, during post-update setup, Windows has added a new option turned on by default, which is described as saying: “With your confirmation, Microsoft Edge will regularly bring in data from other browsers available on your Windows device. This data includes your favorites, browsing history, cookies, autofill data, extensions, settings, and other browsing data.”
After giving customers a brief explanation on how to disable this, Microsoft prompts them to approve the behavior and provides a “Not Now” option on a different screen. Some users have observed that Edge continues to import Chrome data each time it launches — even when this import setting is turned off. Although many people have noticed this behavior, Microsoft has not responded to requests for information or to comment.

There will be a randomised one there, however you can change this with the next step.
7Create your own password
This is optional but can make it easier when connecting other devices to your Wi-Fi hotspot. Choose something secure that you can remember.
8Find your phone’s hotspot on another device
You should now be able to see your phone listed on other devices’ Wi-Fi networks. Simply hit connect and type in the password, and then you should be connected. Make sure your 4G/5G connection is activated on your phone in order for this to work.
Make sure the device you’d like to connect to the hotspot is close enough to your phone. Also make sure the 4G/5G is activated on your phone, and double check the hotspot has been turned on, as shown in step 5.
How will I know which Wi-Fi network is my hotspot?Underneath Use Wi-Fi hotspot (from step five), you will see Device name listed underneath. Click on this to see what your hotspot is named (it’ll likely just be the name of your phone). You can change the name here too.

Christian Veteran Who Beheaded Satanic Altar in Iowa Capital Charged with Hate Crime | The Gateway Pundit
Christian veteran Michael Cassidy, who beheaded a satanic altar in the Iowa capital over the holidays, has been charged with a hate crime.
The altar to Baphomet was installed by the Satanic Temple, with approval from the Iowa Legislature. It featured a goat’s head on a red-caped mannequin holding a crimson pentagram wreath.
The display caused massive controversy, with some arguing that the approval of the shrine was crucial to religious freedom and others arguing that it was a deliberate move to torment Christians — especially as it was placed near a Nativity scene.
On December 14, Cassidy ripped the head off and threw it in a trashcan.
Cassidy was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, the next day.
Speaking to The Sentinel shortly after the beheading, Cassidy said he had beheaded the statue in order to “awaken Christians to the anti-Christian acts promoted by our government.”
“The world may tell Christians to submissively accept the legitimization of Satan, but none of the founders would have considered government sanction of Satanic altars inside Capitol buildings as protected by the First Amendment,” Cassidy said. “Anti-Christian values have steadily been mainstreamed more and more in recent decades, and Christians have largely acted like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot of water.”

“I saw this blasphemous statue and was outraged,” Cassidy continued. “My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted.”
Cassidy turned himself in to the police after destroying the shrine. The Sentinel reported that the Satanic Temple of Iowa confirmed they intend to press charges.
Polk County prosecutors have added a much more severe charge now, according to a charging document made public Tuesday obtained by the Des Moines Register.
The Register reports that Cassidy is now charged with felony third-degree criminal mischief committed “in violation of individual rights” under Iowa’s hate crime statute.
“Evidence shows the defendant made statements to law enforcement and the public indicating he destroyed the property because of the victim’s religion,” Lynn Hicks, a spokesman for the Polk County Attorney’s Office, told the paper.

The report added, “Court records show Cassidy is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 15. He has raised more than $84,000 for his legal defense from nearly 2,000 supporters, according to fundraising site GiveSendGo.”

Sanctuary City of Denver to Begin Limiting Amount of Time Illegal Immigrants Can Stay in Shelters | The Gateway Pundit
The supposed ‘sanctuary city’ of Denver, Colorado, is going to start limiting the amount of time that illegal border crossers can spend in shelters.
Like many blue cities, Denver is learning that city resources are not infinite and that a community can be quickly overwhelmed when an army of people suddenly appears in town. They are already shipping people to other places.
One has to wonder how the city is going to enforce this policy.

Blue City to Evict Illegal Immigrants From Shelters Next Month
The city of Denver, Colorado will begin limiting the number of days illegal immigrants can stay in its shelters and will send those who overstay out onto the streets, according to a report from NBC News.
Reportedly, around 40,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in the city over the course of the past year. Many come on buses from the Texas-Mexico border.
Starting Feb. 5, the city will implement the limitations on how long an illegal immigrant can stay in the city’s shelters. One family from Venezuela told NBC that they received notice they would be evicted from their hotel. Their stay is being paid for by the city.
“Just yesterday they started throwing away the toys, the bicycles in the common area,” the mother said. “We don’t know where we will go next.”
In addition, the city’s “safety net” hospital, Denver Health, is reportedly asking the federal government for aid covering $10 million in unpaid medical bills due to illegal immigrants.

Nearly 40,000 migrants have arrived in Denver over the past year, making a city with a population of just over 710,000 the top destination per capita for newly arrived migrants crossing the U.S. southern border and traveling north in buses from Texas.
The influx is taking a toll on the city’s public safety net. Starting Feb. 5, Denver will limit the number of days migrants can stay in shelters and send those who exceed their stay out onto the streets…
Denver Health, the city’s “safety net” hospital, is asking for more money from both the state and federal government to help cover $10 million in unpaid medical bills from migrants.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston estimates the city will need $100 million over 2024 to pay for housing, schooling, health care and other services as a result of the unexpected influx of migrants.

China approves 40 AI models in six months
More than 40 artificial intelligence (AI) models have been approved for public use by China in the last six months, reports Reuters.
Chinese media claims regulators in the country gave the green light to 14 large language models (LLM) last week, which is the fourth batch of approvals Beijing has granted since August last year as it attempts to play catch up with the US in the AI sector. The decision to keep AI technology under control by regulators emphasizes China’s approach toward developing the sector within the country.
Baidu, Alibaba and ByteDance, which owns social media giant TikTok, were among the first companies in China to receive approvals last year. Among the latest batch of approvals are Xiaomi Corp, 4Pradigm and 01.AI. There were also approvals in November and December last year.
While a complete list of approved companies hasn’t been disclosed by the Chinese government, Securities Times has said more than 40 AI models have now been approved for public use.
China is attempting to keep up with the US as AI technology continues to evolve globally, with Chinese companies rushing to develop AI products since OpenAI‘s ChatGPT rose to prominence in 2022.
Back then, China had an estimated 130 LLMs, which accounted for 40% of the global total, while the US’ market share was 50%.
How much is the LLM market worth globally?As companies around the world rush to grab a share of the generative AI marker by producing their own LLM tools, Bloomberg reported in June 2023 that it estimates the market could be worth $1.3 trillion within the next 10 years. In 2022, it estimated the market to be worth just $40 billion.
The report continued to project that “generative AI is poised to expand its impact from less than 1% of total IT hardware, software services, ad spending and gaming market spending to 10% by 2032.”
It goes on to name generative AI infrastructure as a service used for training LLMs as potentially the largest driver of this growth, accounting for $247 billion of global revenues by 2032.

When it comes to inflation and prices, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is singing a very different tune than her boss Joe Biden.
During a recent appearance on ABC News, when she was asked about prices going back to pre-pandemic levels, Yellen said that ‘most Americans know’ that prices are not coming back down.
That is absolutely not what Joe Biden is saying. Biden recently bragged about how much prices of various goods have come down, then bashed ‘greedy corporations’ for the prices that have not come down. Watch:

Yellen’s message is quite different. From RedState:
Biden is trying to sell us on this fiction of how much he’s doing to change what he broke, and no one believes him because he doesn’t even understand the problem. Or he does and he just wants to spin us.
But now, Treasury Janet Yellen just threw him under the bus with what she had to say about inflation. She was being interviewed by ABC when she was asked how she would convince people that prices might not go back to what they were before the pandemic. This is an astounding statement, especially in light of what Biden keeps saying now.
“Well, I think most Americans know that prices are not likely to fall,” Yellen said. “It’s not the Fed’s objective to try to push the level of prices back to where they were.”

Samsung replaced as world’s leading semiconductor firm
According to a new study, the South Korean conglomerate has been ousted as the biggest earner from semiconductor manufacturing.
The report produced by Counterpoint Research shows the semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics revenue fell from $ 70.2 billion in 2022 to $ 43.4 billion in 2023.
American multinational corporation Intel took a pole position with $ 50.5 billion in 2023 revenue, a slight decline of 16% from the previous year.
Intel’s market share for 2023 was 9.7% compared to Samsung’s 8.3%, giving the U.S. company the edge over its rival.
Samsung Electronics took another hit this month with the news that the phone manufacturing side of the company would lose a decade of dominance in device sales to Apple.
Samsung is expected to bounce back in 2024The South Korean tech giant is set to record an improvement this year. The country is a trade-reliant entity, and the global instability of Chinese trade relations and the Russia-Ukraine war are said to have taken a toll across a turbulent 2023.
A surge late last year in November gave Samsung Electronics hope of reclaiming the top spot in semiconductor production, a Bloomberg report showed.
Chip production would soar 42% in the latter half of last year, rivaling only 2017 records for the electronics manufacturer. Shipments would also see a massive upsurge by 80% to levels only seen in 2002, the study from the South Korean National Statistics Office would highlight.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance’s Economic Bulletin for January reinforced a healthy outlook for South Korean production:
”Despite uneven recovery across the economy, gradual signs of an upturn are emerging, mainly driven by a rebound in manufacturing production and exports, especially semiconductors, as well as strong job growth.”
Samsung had a busy Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year with a diverse showing — including a team-up with Google for universal Android device sharing called Quick Share and the first-ever Micro LD TV.
NVIDIA storms the global revenue rankingsThe Counterpoint report showed that NVIDIA had taken advantage of global investment in artificial intelligence (AI) with a year-on-year increase of 86% in revenue from 2022.
The Californian company would go from tenth in the global rankings last year to third. Marking the first top-five spot for the company in global semiconductor revenues.
The CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, met with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s (TSMC) C. C. Wei this month to discuss the extent of U.S. trade sanctions.
The U.S. sanctions have proved to be an obstacle as the Department of Commerce has frowned upon the sale of state-of-the-art AI chips to China.
The global chip and semiconductor race looks set to be an interesting one as 2024 unfolds.

Victor Davis Hanson Slams the ‘Baffling’ Ruling in the E. Jean Carroll Case Against Trump | The Gateway Pundit
Conservative historian and scholar recently wrote about the E. Jean Carroll ruling against Trump, taking special aim at changes in New York law that took place prior to the case and pointing out that this is just one piece of the endless lawfare the left is aiming at Trump.
Hanson calls the case ‘baffling’ and notes the inconsistencies in Carroll’s story.
Hanson put his thoughts in a lengthy post on Twitter/X:
The civil suit serves as a mere preview of four additional leftwing criminal prosecutions, leftwing judges, and leftwing juries to come—all on charges that would never had been filed if Trump either had not run for president or been a liberal progressive.
Yet here we are.
The E. Jean Carroll case is the most baffling of all five. She, the alleged victim, did not remember even the year in which the purported sexual assault took place, nearly three decades ago. Observers have pointed out dozens of inconsistencies in her story.
It was never clear what were the preliminaries that supposedly (Trump denies meeting her) led both, allegedly, willingly to retreat together to a department store dressing room, where during normal business hours the alleged violence took place.
Moreover, the sexual assault complaint came forward decades post facto—and only after Trump was running for and then president.
Hanson gets into the background of how we got here:
In 2022, a new law (“The Adult Survivors Act”) was passed in the New York legislature. It also post facto established a twelve-month window (beginning six months from the signing of bill) that permitted survivors of long ago alleged sexual assaults suddenly to sue the accused long-ago perpetrator—regardless of the previous statute of limitations.
That unexpected opening suddenly gave Carroll’s prior unsuccessful efforts a rebirth. And she quickly refiled with the help of arch-Trump hating billionaire Hoffman.
Yet the bill may have been introduced with Trump particularly in mind—given the legislator who introduced it, Brad Hoylman-Siga, was known as another Trump antagonist.
The media continues to pretend that this is all legitimate but most people, including many Democrats, know that it is not.
It’s just more of the left’s multi-level strategy to prevent Trump from ever again taking office.

A chip smuggling operation is busted sending chips to China
According to Tomshardware, the largest chip smuggling bust to date — contained 53,000 chips valued at $11.6 million, uncovered by South Korea’s customs service. Also, from BusinessKorea, it was discovered that US technology was being used to transit strategic semiconductors from Korea to China. Due to the sheer size of this smuggling operation, ‘Company A,’ as a whole, rather than just one person, was responsible. Prosecutors have charged and will prosecute all of the company’s officials for these crimes, which were committed over three years.
Between August 2020 and August 2023, ‘Company A’ lawfully purchased chips manufactured in the United States and lawfully imported them into South Korea. By not declaring them to customs, some chips were smuggled into China via air in 144 separate journeys. While smugglers have made numerous smaller-scale attempts to import consumer GPUs and CPUs into China, the chips used in this operation were designed to convert analog data to digital. These chips have been subject to export and import restrictions since 2020 because they can be utilized as WMDs.
This is by far the most extensive smuggling operation that has ever been busted — especially in terms of quantity and value.The previous record holder in stories we reported was an attempt to smuggle $4 million worth of CPUs, SSDs, and other equipment from Hong Kong to China. Similarly, the would-be smuggler misrepresented his items to customs officers, who were not duped and exposed the scheme.
The company selling these chips left a paper trail when purchasing the chips. Still, the company was able to keep its strategy scheme hidden by skimming off the top to legitimate businesses. The company selling the chips ordered more chips than it needed from legitimate sources. Many say that the smuggling to China should have been found out sooner.
Unlike most other smuggling operations, this one from South Korea was notable for the effective smuggling of all the products, and the crime wasn’t found until months after it was purportedly done. The CEO and other executives of the main company involved (that hasn’t been named yet) may face dire repercussions. Still, it’s possible that the chips are being utilized for other, as-yet-unknown purposes—possibly even inside weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), as the US government fears. Both China and Russia are advancing in at least some of these areas.

Stephen Colbert unpacked Trump’s claim of passing a brain injury test to reveal that things didn’t go as well as Trump thinks.
Colbert played a clip of Trump saying, “They give you six names in a row. I took a lot of heat on this. They give you six names in a row at the beginning. “Sir, I’m gonna give you six names.” Good. Look at them. A chair, a hat, a badge, a necklace, and a vote.”
The Late Show host responded, “Okay. There’s a lot to unpack there. First of all, those aren’t names. Those are things. Those aren’t names. He also said they give you six names. Chair, hat, badge, necklace, vote — that’s only five things! ‘Cognitive tests are like jazz. It’s about all the names you don’t remember. A-scooba-doo-da-whaaaale.’”

Trump has been expanding, twisting, turning, and warping the dementia test that he took for years to the point where it has become one of humanity’s great achievements that is right up there with the moon landing.
Trump can’t even get the number of items on the list correct when he is retelling the story about the cognitive test, so there should be serious doubt that he passed the test in the first place.
