“… in his obsession with me,” Sherlock says, in either an obvious attempt at a joke, given the circumstances, or else the saddest, most clueless piece of heartbreaking irony ever

My story Table For Two just reached 10,000 hits!! Thanks, you guys!!! This is the sequel to a story (Table For One) that I originally wrote to a specific request involving John having an eating disorder and serious emotional instability issues. I wrote that one in the midst of the four months it took me to write Against the Rest of the World (specifically between chapters 13 and 14, if you want to know!), and since that one is all in first person voice with Sherlock, I had that rhythm in my head and couldn’t turn it off. I wrote both of those before series 3 aired, when the main genre of the Johnlock fandom was Reichenbach Return fics. By the time I wrote this sequel, series 3 had already aired and I knew that my story was out of sync with then-known canon, but I still felt it needed a sequel, and wrote this one. I actually vastly prefer the sequel to the original, which is so misery-laden. This one is all about Sherlock trying to learn how to care for someone, fully aware that he was behind the hurt which put John into this condition in the first place and now awkwardly trying his damnedest to remedy it, despite John’s prickly pride and stumbling recovery process. Mental illness + new relationship is shaky ground at best, and this was an attempt to begin navigating those waters for them in this particular situation/universe.
Table For Two is the 35th of my 62 current stories to have made the 10,000 hit milestone. Thank you so much for reading it and for liking it.

Pet peeve rant of the day:
When someone decides to comment on a fic of yours to berate you over not having included their favourite tumblr meta (or “meta” in some cases), some theory which is currently popular with the other 30 people they know on tumblr, and which came out literally years after you wrote your fic. Sorry to rant - this is none of you guys!!! - but that drives me absolutely crazy. Especially when they try to claim this theory as absolute canon, when at the best, it’s a complete and utter reach. This has happened to me quite a few times, including sentiments such as:
“How could you have John eating dinner with Sherlock? Everyone knows that John doesn’t eat! He has an eating disorder! It’s canon!!!!!” (Me: Uh, John eats in canon… multiple times.)
“How could you write that Sherlock is a virgin? Everyone know that Mycroft was only joking! Also it’s a fact that Sherlock slept with Irene in Karachi! He probably also slept with Molly while he was staying with her! And he obviously slept with Janine!” (Me: Uh, Sherlock is gayer than an Easter basket for starters. Secondly, there’s very little that Mycroft doesn’t know. If anything, the closest we’re given on “canon” IS Sherlock’s virginity, and although I’m open to that being incorrect, you can hardly fault an author for deciding to use that as canon basis for it. Third, about all three of those women, NO. 1) Irene: I don’t consider what Moffat says in interviews “canon” so much as “stuff they could have made canon and didn’t”, but even in THAT, he said that Irene steals Sherlock’s clothes and leaves him there naked. In the street. I doubt very much that they had sex. 2) Molly. Don’t make me laugh. Besides which, she said that she gives him the bedroom when he’s there because “he needs the space”. Aka, she was not in said space. 3) Janine: “at least once would have been nice”/Sherlock: “I was waiting until we got married”/Janine: “that was never going to happen!” QED: no sex.)
“The medical analyses you used for this story is COMPLETELY wrong! I’m a cardiologist (me: *snort* Okay, Jan…) and according to someone else’s tumblr post that was written last week, your story from over two years ago and which used a cited doctor’s analysis into Mary’s shot as well as your own research, including the speculations of an actual cardiologist, is completely wrong and you should read my tumblr post about it and then (presumably) rewrite your fic to include my personal theories about this. (Me: Uh, no.)
“How could you write that Mycroft doesn’t have a cat?????? Everyone knows that Mycroft and Lestrade have a cat! It’s canon according to my friend Jackie who says that the colour of Mycroft’s tie reveals his preference for Calico cats although we all know that Greg is the one who actually feeds her hahaha and omg why didn’t you write that into the story? You’re so wrong!” (Me: Uh… I’m not touching this one)
*facepalm*
PS: Just editing to add that I actually don’t write stories to advertise other people’s meta/”meta” (much of which I find laughably irrational at best). I write my own ideas, period. I’m not in any of the fandom cliques and I don’t even read most of those posts or know what the popular theory of the month is most of the time. I don’t even really read other people’s fics because I’m almost always working on something of my own and deliberately avoid other stories to avoid being influenced by other people’s ideas. But even if I were into this intensive over-dissection thing, I would still write my own ideas and my own stories.

This is the real moment John forgave Sherlock. The formal/official thing on the train was just for show. Look at his eyes. He knows that Sherlock means it. And he couldn’t have stayed away, anyway. He’d already proved that twice by this point.
