In which I talk about my singing a bit
My genius plan for not feeling badly about not having plans for Valentine’s Day (insert Sherlock-levels of scorn and scoffing regarding commercialism and pointless sentiment here, but still) was to plan to be giving a concert tomorrow night, lol.
(Personal life stuff here, feel free to skip!)
Anyway: some of you might know that I am, among other things, a classical singer. I left the pursuit of a full-time career in it eight years ago now, but I still give the occasional concert and do other things for work (museum, teaching voice, various other freelance things including teaching workshops, writing articles, coaching weight loss, etc). Sometimes I miss having more to sing, but I don’t miss the rat race and constant competition, constant having to endure other people’s criticism, constant hustling to scratch up opportunities for oneself. I really love programming, though, so I love planning a concert. This one is particularly nice because it’s a house concert, so it will be a small, intimate setting with an audience of about 40 people. The host who hired me for it (she was at my last big concert in June and hired me right at it!) gave me a range of three months and asked me to choose a Friday night. When I saw that Valentine’s falls on a Friday this year, I jumped at that. However, a full evening of love-themed music seemed like a bit much, so I decided to make the second half sacred, looking ahead to Lent (which starts quite soon after Valentine’s this year). I’m wearing a gorgeous red, beaded, strappy dress for the first half, then a slightly more subdued, navy lace, empire-waisted one for the second half, changing jewellery and everything. ❤️ Staying in the Fandom? ❤️
Another year with no Sherlock BBC, no resolution, not even real hope. Except I’m not ready to let go. Nope. These two gorgeous men are John and Sherlock for me. I have accepted that the show is most probably over. That even if it isn’t, and there is a S5, there is no guarantee it will bring me my johnlock happy ending.
This fandom, however, does happy endings constantly, and series fixes, and tender, warm affection. I have seen these two men in fake relationships, raising children, being pilots, teachers, spys, doctors! One or both hurt and the other caring for him. I have laughed, been rendered speechless and cried plenty of times due to the talent of my beloved authors and artists (I commented on you story on AO3, I’m suscribed, I reblog and comment on your art on tumblr. I’m your fan) I have even written my own humble monster stories, they have been a passtime when I’ve been hurt or ill. Almost finished, too! So I will be here, or on Pillowfort, or where ever my authors and artists are.
The things I’ve learned and the people I’ve met go beyond a simple (well not simple for us) telly series. They are as timeless as the Sherlock Holmes fandom itself. Thank you to all artists, vid editors, op’s, and authors that have made this fandom much better than the BBC or any other series could have ever done! Best wishes for 2019!! Hope to still see you here, in the Johnlock arena, thinking up yet more angsty, funny, not so good, downright naughty situations for these men to go through and then leave them together!! Cheers!!
Still here. Came for the show, stayed for the extraordinary works created by the fans. I love everyone in this bar.
