Hey, frieeend. Got any book recommendations while we wait for part five? Because waiting hurts, but you are not obligated to hurry, because this is your life and readers do not own you. (You should probs read Neil Gaimans recent chewing out of a dude tryin

Warriors I Bring the Fire Part V should be out first week in August. I’m rereading the rough draft today, and then it will probably take a week or two to get it proof read and edited.

If you want to read more of my writing, and like romance, I’ve written a lot of fanfiction. Of particular interest to Loki fans would be Blue. It’s a Loki/Darcy fanfic, but beyond the romance it’s a musing on the Marvel Universe and Chaos. Also, you’d probably like The Snow Wife, a play on a Japanese folktale of a peasant and a snow goddess/spirit who fall in love. I’m pretty sure Yuki Onna was Loki … all the evidence points to it ;-).

As to book recommendations … congrats, Anon, you’ve prompted me to post a few I’ve been dawdling over. They’re here. In the paranormal category I love American Ghoul in particular, but enjoyed all of the books for reasons stated.

I read a wide range of fiction and non-fiction. Usually I read a non-fiction and a fiction story at the same time so I can hop back and forth between them depending on my mood. Right now my non-fiction book is Naked Statistics. It’s by the same author who wrote Naked Economics, which I love. I’ve read enough of Naked Statistics to recommend it. It’s as scintillating as the topic can be made. I do believe that a basic understanding of Economics and Statistics are a responsibility we all have as citizens. (Okay, hopping off my soap box now).

Yes, Sometimes I Like Literary Fiction …

This story broke the mold of what I usually like—there were many POV not separated by any sort of break in the text. Also, the POV flowed from character to omniscient and then back to the characters. But I still loved it just the same. The writing is incredibly lyrical and I got drawn into it.

My only quibble was that I felt like the final confrontation at the ending could be drawn out a little more—maybe Trajan could of reflected on the lights of his city and the omniscient narrator could have commented on how much the night time view had changed, but how different peoples and cultures were still butting up against each other…I don’t know, it would just have been nice to have something that would have drawn up all the pieces full circle.

Still that is a tiny quibble. 4.5 stars rounded up, because I didn’t ever have the urge to skim or jump ahead.

Defied EVERY Rule I Usually Have for Fiction — And I Still Really Liked It

Things I don’t like:
1) Stories about Vampires (What? They’re overdone)
2) Stories with love at first sight (Does this need any explanation?)
3) Stories where the POV shifts around between characters a lot without a clear break between them.
4) Pride, Prejudice and Zombies (couldn’t get into it).

I still loved this story. Probably because I love Forster’s “Room with a View”. Normally, I don’t think these parodies work, however, this parody augments, rather than ignores Forster’s main theme of choosing love over stifling convention. In this story—consciously or not—magic, and people who have magic either innately or through their lovers, is code for people who follow their hearts.

Also, the fight scenes were more gripping!

This story is silly in the best possible way—consciously, and with a good heart behind the silliness.
