Mike Ripton “Ripp” is witty, covered in muscle, rides a motorcycle, and drives a 1969 Chevelle. He’s tattooed, and has 4 piercings on his cock. He has never been in love, nor has he ever been in an actual relationship. He does relationships, ‘just not for that long’. He boxes professionally, and fights bare knuckles matches in the ‘hood’ for cash. Ripp is a take me or leave me type of alpha male that won’t change for anyone.

When he meets the ‘most beautiful woman in the word’ one day in the bar, a local prominent attorney, he decides she’ll be his next ‘victim’. Little does he realize that he just might be hers. She eagerly admits she’s attracted to one type of male, and one type only. Bad Boy. Alpha. Tattooed. And. Dominant.

As long as she’s in a relationship.

But Ripp doesn’t do relationships…..

Unstoppable is steamy. The type that fanning yourself won’t fix. It’s got alpha males. Fighting. Tattoos. Muscles. And above all, it’s got Mike Ripton.

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Bear with me here, and don’t take my first lines of dialogue as my final assessment.  Read on, MacReader…
When one begins a read with a running inner dialogue telling one to “give it time”, it’s generally a death knell for said story.   I spent the first chapter or two thinking the male MC, uber-fighter Mike “Ripp” Ripton was, at best, a narcissistic fool of a character, unworthy of my time in a real person or a book character.  At worst, he was simply a big, dumb tool!   And his “women”, all of them, were the female equivalent…
Then I recalled having read another of Mr. Hildreth’s books, called “Baby Girl”, and truly appreciating the unapologetic nature of both main characters.   I believe I used the words, “attractive” and “enviable”, in my review to describe them and their self-awareness.   So I said to myself, “Self.  Have faith.   Persevere”.  And it was so, and it was…really, really awesome!
I will pass over the myriad women who lead up to Ripp’s Waterloo, except to say:  I will never, never, EVER, discount the relative worth of a pair of “Chucks” again.   And you thought they were just shoes made for walking…well (insert Amazon-approved word here) no!   And if some tatted, pierced and deadly dude offers the opportunity to get up close and personal with his Chucks???  SAY.  “YES”!   Do not hesitate.  Do not pass Go.  Do not collect $200.
Now then, if I may get to the main event and do my “job”, let me say it’s not often that when eyes connect across a crowded room, I am likely to invest in the story-to-come.  Particularly when the H is a bit of a man-whore, believability is stretched a tad.  However, considering Ripp never doubted himself about anything, and considering Vivian “Vee” Simon, Attorney-at-Law was a woman who knew her own mind and knew she needed a Ripp in her life…well, herein lies both the strength and the lesson of Mr. Hildreth’s stories…
By conventional standards, Ripp was a shallow human being, aggressive, full of himself and incapable of relating to anyone beyond the moment.   By conventional standards, Vee would be the focus of censure from all sides:  on one hand, she was a professional tour-de-force which made her unattractively aggressive for a female, and on the other hand she was an acknowledged sexual submissive, which made her…a paradox, at the very least.
In reality, these actually very strong characters are truly self-aware, and very comfortable in their own skin. There is no artifice in their make-up and no drama in their conduct.   This story chronicles these two very strong and admittedly unlikely characters coming together, learning how to make each other happy, making themselves happy in the doing, and, without changing themselves fundamentally, flipping convention the proverbial bird.   I admire that in people and I love that about this story.   I heartily recommend Scott Hildreth’s “voice”.
Now about that ending, Mr. Hildreth…
Past Unbound
Darius and Alia had loved each other a long time. A woman’s jealousy and greed and a father’s need to control tore them apart.
Six years after, his life is turned upside down, Darius McKade returns to his home town. There to run his business and claim the only woman he’s ever loved. He’s changed in a lot of ways. He’s learned and grown into his dominance, and he’ll use what he knows to get what he wants.
Alia Ward has finally put the past behind her—or so she thought. The instant Darius walked into her small bakery she knew she hadn’t. After a moment of weakness, she gives him her body, but will she be able to give him her heart?
Love Unbound
Slade Jamison has finally found the woman that he feels can be his perfect submissive. But will her past hinder her from submitting fully?
Tiyionna Barnes suffered at the hands of one claiming to be a Dominant. He stripped her of her self-worth and left a shell of who she once was.
Can Slade’s brand of dominance show her that the woman she once was is still there, or will Tiyionna push him away, not willing to take a chance?
Chains Unbound
Aubrey Lawson has survived a horrific crime, but he’s nobody’s victim. After a dream date that turns into hours of torture, Bre is finally freed—only he wakes up to confront another nightmare: his savior is none other than Devlin Barnes. Dev, with his baritone voice and mesmerizing eyes, is the Dom of Aubrey’s dreams and the last person he wants on his rehab watch.
Bre’s pride—and libido—are pushed to their limits when Devlin insists that he be moved to the Barnes’ house for the rest of his recovery. Dev makes no secret about his own lust for Aubrey, and soon has the gorgeous submissive in his bed, in every meaning of the word. But Devlin’s passion only solidifies Aubrey’s firmest hard limit: he won’t be a charity case to anyone, especially Devlin.
The couple’s fresh commitment is tested when Aubrey steps into danger once more to keep Devlin safe. Can Dev get to him in time? More importantly, can he break through Bre’s chains of pride and self-doubt, and show him the beautiful bondage of lasting love?
Three short stories, box set or anthology no matter how you choose to describe the House of Doms it is a winner! You don’t have to read them in order but I recommend that you do. You will have a little better insight into each of the characters and you’re going to want to know all you can about these wonderful characters and their stories. Ava has given us some drop dead sexy Doms and submissives that will capture your heart. In these three stories there is a little something for everyone M/f, M/f/M and M/m. Oh and the House is a place of sensuous play, a little pleasure and pain, so you may want to turn on a fan *wink*
In Past Unbound we meet our first two lovers Darius and Alia. Well they were lovers and in love. Or were they? Love is supposed to concur all but it seems greed, jealousy and the need for power might just be stronger. Darius or Dare has fallen head over heels for Alia. His father, Davis, was hoping it was just a fling. After all they were the McKades and a girl not from their social standing and not white was never part of his father’s plan. The plan Davis comes up with to solve this problem is one a man of wealth and power can pull off. Add a jealous woman who wants nothing more than to help destroy Alia and her love for Darius and the plan is complete.
Darius has finally come back to his home town. He decides it is time for him to get his life back, to get the woman he loves back. What happens when some or all of the truth is told? Can it repair the damage that has been done or does it just cause more? After all Alia has moved on. She has put herself back together and built a life for herself. Why would she open her heart up to a man who destroyed it and the dream life she thought they had? When the truth starts to come out does Alia have some of her own to share?
Ava has delivered a wonderful story with characters who you will want to see more of. The good news is you will. Ava lets have a peek at Darius and Alia in the next story of this hot series Love Unbound.
Our second story Love Unbound starts out with a dream come true for Alia. This dream Slade helps make come true also shows him what he is missing waiting for the one submissive he knows will be his perfect match. Slade is not only a friend to Darius but also his partner/co-owner of the House. Darius and Slade are interviewing a prospective member today. Devlin a tall, dark and possessive Dom. Darius and Slade know a little bit about Devlin. During the interview though Devlin shares a few things he knows about Tiyionna, the submissive Slade is sure will soon be his. Tiyionna is a submissive who has been tore down and broken both physically and emotionally by someone who should never have been called a Dom. His words and actions still haunt and control her.
Tiyionna is one of the bartenders at the House. Slade has been watching and waiting for the right moment to make a claim on her. When she has an incident with one of the Domme’s she is confronted by Slade.  He wants to know what is going on but instead of telling Slade what happened Tiyionna looks him right in the eye and tells him she quits and heads for the door. Before she can get to the door Slade breaks out what Tiyionna calls his best weapon. (I know what you’re all thinking, wrong.) His voice “Stop!”
Slade isn’t going to let his spit fire submissive get away. He doesn’t know it yet but keeping her and showing her that not only is her submission a thing of beauty but she is as well will be a bit more difficult than he thinks. Ti is a strong woman but even strong women can be fooled by one who claims to love them. She has worked hard at becoming herself again. But will she be strong enough to trust not only her own heart but Salde’s as well?
In the third story of this series Chains Unbound Ava turns this series to the darkest side of life.
Aubrey has been watching his friends find the love and fulfillment they all deserve. He is happy for them but he can’t help wanting the same things for himself. Want is a dangerous thing. It can cloud your judgment, make you think and see things not as they truly are. In the first two stories Ava gave us the deceit and betrayal that make a story come alive. In this story Ava shows us the true evil people can do to others. This is Aubrey and Devlin’s story.
Aubrey knows where he is and what is happening even if he doesn’t understand why it was happening. He had taken some time off work and was working on finding the same love his friends had found. He thought he had found the man who understood and loved him only to find out he couldn’t be more wrong. Now he is a warehouse alone and chained to a cross. He has beaten and tormented by the man he loved, trusted and that man’s friends. Aubrey doesn’t know how long he has been here and is close to the end. When he hears a voice telling him he is safe. He doesn’t know why but he believes this voice and trusts the hands now touching him, releasing him from his binds.
When Devlin and his partner Reece entered the warehouse he had no idea who he was looking at. The man who was bound to the cross was so badly beaten and bleeding he didn’t recognize him. When he came around to face the man and tipped his head so he could see the mans face rage filled Devlin. It was Aubrey. He knew this man he was a bartender at the House. Aubrey isn’t just a bartender to Devlin but someone he cares for. No cares is not the only thing Devlin feels for Aubrey. It is more than just sex or friendship that draws him to this man.  Now he is determined to not only find the people responsible but to make them pay for what they have done.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Although there is some steamy hot sex in the pages of these books they also tell a story or three stories. Ava has put in not only the time it takes to create a world you want to visit but the heart it takes to create characters you want to know.  You will become invested in each character more with each story. She has also given us some wonderful secondary characters who I am hoping will get to have their story told. I do know that there will be at least one more story. I can’t wait to see whose story it is! It will also give us a peek at how our three couples are doing. Who knows there may even be a surprise appearance of a long overdue character?

Ava Snow is an author you are going to want to keep an eye on. I see her moving from short stories to full novels in the future!

RIYRIA CHRONICLES Series by Michael Sullivan

There are two ways of reading this series. Publication Order and Chronological Order. Each Book is purchased and read separately, I have read them in Publication order and having started into the Chronicles that take you back to the start of Royce and Hadrian, it is my personal recommendation it be read this way.

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
index
Two men who hate each other. One impossible mission. A legend in the making.
Hadrian Blackwater, a warrior with nothing to fight for is paired with Royce Melborn, a thieving assassin with nothing to lose. Together they must steal a treasure that no one can reach. The Crown Tower is the impregnable remains of the grandest fortress ever built and home to the realm’s most prized possessions. But it isn’t gold or jewels that the old wizard is after, and if he can keep them from killing each other they become a legendary team.
This is the first book in the new series, The Riyria Chronicles, from best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan. It takes place twelve years before the events of The Riyria Revelations and no prior knowledge of those books is required. You can read in either chronological order or order of publication, although the author suggests reading in publication order.
5 ~ STARS
Like the Revelations this first book of the Riyria Chronicles was a great read, my only gripe was that too soon I glanced down and saw that I was already 87% of the way through it. The pace of this books kind of meanders a bit at first, but not in a way that is annoying, but clearly it is Sullivan’s way to avoid plot spoiling. A trick I am sure he found considerably difficult considering he already knew his characters very well and now he had to pretend to be discovering them for the first time. And as expected as soon as Hadrian and Royce are introduced the story flies off the pages. The banter between them is constant but more in a hate/hate aspect then a friendship/hate alliance and it’s a good laugh every time because as the reader you know this heckling balance between them becomes molded as part of their friendship.
But I must say, even knowing how things turn out for these two, it in no way ruined this book for me. In fact, though the books was carefully written so a reader could read it in either order, I don’t’ recommend reading it in chronological order. I just get the feeling you’d misinterpret the dynamics of the relationship that is about to be forged and only find it annoying. I could be wrong, but I personally am glad to have read it in the order of publishing. Going back to the beginning was just a new journey with old friends.
The down side was this one, though it is not a short story, it read so fast it seemed too damn short for me.
BEST CATCH:
“Sorry but he makes me nervous.” Hadrian jerked his head at Royce.
“He makes everyone nervous. You’ll get used to it.
BEST CATCH #2 (couldn’t stick to just one and there were many in this read)
Royce’s shadow crossed his face, “that was pathetic.”
“You’re enjoying this a little too much for me to think you’re honestly trying to help.”
“Trust me. I want you to improve. I want you to fall from much higher up.”
da7cdd88724479d2365ee5d6d0bad76d75439785-thumb Come and take this journey with Rick Johnson as he tells a tale of life in the box. This is not your everyday of work in the box. It is a very funny story of people working together and pranking each other and evil deeds to yet be done.
Meet Creek Rivers who loves Wolf Brand Chilli and Bluebell Ice cream and has a stalker. Creek also has a bird named Bird Bird or Girl Girl just depends on the mood of Creek or her little neighbor boy that comes to visit. Then there is Prince and his Thank you Thank you very much attitude and then all the customers that come in and can’t even work their own credit cards and so much more. If you want a really good laugh pour yourself a great big glass of get real and grab Love In The Box.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You know how they say “Don’t annoy Authors they may put you in a book and kill you.” Author Rick Johnson has taken that to a new whole new level! Forget death the pranks he pulls on his great characters in his new book are deviously hilarious. You will never be able to look at your neighborhood box with a straight face again!!
If you work with or have ever worked with the public you are going to love this book! The employees of the Paos gas station or “the box” are a great collection of characters. The customers and the friends of our star employees are a hoot as well. We also get to meet some of the men and women of the local Police Department too. One of the things I love about how Rick Johnson writes is he never really mentions the name of the city or town where his stories take place. So it could very well be the one you live in!
You won’t believe some of the things that happen at the “box” or outside the “box”. There is also a prank war going on in the box between the employees and you won’t believe or maybe you will believe some of the pranks pulled. Maybe you have even wanted to pull some of them on your co-workers or customers. *wink* But as you know no war can be contained in a box. It takes on a life all its own and includes employees, friends and customers. This is a great story of one-up-manship. It also can lead to seeking revenge.
So if you have had one of those days or weeks one-click Rick Johnson and let your imagination run wild!!

 s-typeopts13A forced wedding. A double execution. Two thieves have other plans.

The New Empire intends to mark its victory over the Nationalists with a bloody celebration. On the high holiday of Wintertide, the Witch of Melengar will be burned and the Heir of Novron executed. On that same day the Empress faces a forced marriage, with a fatal accident soon to follow. The New Empire is confident in the totality of its triumph, but there’s just one problem–Royce and Hadrian have finally found the Heir of Novron and they have their own holiday plans.

And so concludes the final tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend.

When author Michael J. Sullivan self-published the first books of his Riyria Revelations, they rapidly became ebook bestsellers. Now, Orbit is pleased to present the complete series for the first time in bookstores everywhere.

Vol 5 – Wintertide – 5-Stars

In Vol 5 the story keeps at a page turning pace, multiples of characters and interior designs shifting about with now fewer than the number of chess piece on a full board, each having their play in the overall scheme, as the battle of good and evil start to take on their true colors and still another handful that like jumping the fence from plot to plot to keep you guessing and cursing at the basters for their betrayal… again…. Just when you thought they had learned it was rewarding to be in the good guy side. A Action never slows at swords, daggers and thievery continue to be the top trade skill in the master mine of the story. And Chivalry isn’t just upheld by the men, but women of enduring strength even when they feel their most vulnerable, manage to keep strong threads holding everyone else together during some of the most futile points of giving up.

Like Vol 4, this is one you want to be sure to clear your calendar and just call in sick and call for take-out; as it is such a fast paced read but no means a short one, so warn the partner you’re MIA for the day with this one.

BEST CATCH:

“See, there’s the difference,” Mauvin started to say, “Someone close to me gets killed and everyone consoles me, someone close to Royce gets killed and whole cities start to evacuate.”

Vol 6 – Percepliquis – 5-Stars

In Vol 6 the reading pace is going to slow down considerable for the first time since Vol 3, not that it is lagging or will dull you out of the saga, but if you remember as I mention both in Vol 4 & 5 there was a lot going on and now the time that all these building and shifting interior stories are being pulled in as we draw to the closing answers to the overall quest.

Rather than rushing thru the details, it’s a meticulous telling lick lacing up a pair of boots before drawing everything together for the finale. For the invest reader, its actually a rather welcoming pace, as you don’t want the book to end knowing its almost over, like hovering at the gate of the park not forth willing to go dashing out  at the end of the day just yet.

And if perhaps you thought by mid ay of Vol 5 you had everything figured out and you were just riding it out to say ‘HA! I was right!’ … Then you are in for a big surprise, as not just one one or two but several key details have been derailed with some rather ‘out of left field’ changes, and if that isn’t challenging enough, nothing fits, so while you are on the slow horse towards the gradual epic center, you are perplexing the whole way, furious that you no longer have the clues mastered.

Unlike 5 & 6, you’ll find yourself better willing to take short breaks, to contemplate, ponder and perhaps dig about to be assured there are a couple more Sullivan treasures to pick up and read directly after this is over. But once you reach the point of arguing with the characters that they have tried was seems so obvious, then just accept the fact that you will not stop from there until the end or until sleep comes despite any indignity that your eyes can’t keep up a hero’s stamina to go on. You will reach a part when you trust yourself that you have solved at least two of the greatest mysteries, for gotten about two others and shocked at the ones you didn’t even have a notion to guess upon. And yet as they all come to pass you will not be denied the thrill of having seen the revelation come to light.  So it is safe to go on and complete the journey. As it is but an incredible one to venture on.

See you on the other end, comrade.

BEST CATCH:

“What’re you doing, buddy?”

“Trying something.”

“Something Stupid?”

“Maybe.”

A personal note: This has been an incredible read, which surpassed any expectations I have ever put into any one book. And yet with it over I find myself thinking not about the author who penned it but the man who talked me into reading it. It may be in bad taste to talk of an author other than the one who wrote the story but I can’t help it. He was my best friend, someone I was in awe of and admired as a man and as a story teller.  It crushed me when I heard the news of his passing, even more when I learned that all that time that I knew him, he knew his times was running out.

How strange that now having read the Riyria Revelations by Michael Sullivan that I see some of all those magical characters created by Sullivan in my friend and in his life. Since that time my husband and I have become very close, if not more so, to my friend’s twin sister. And I get to marvel at her own talent as she and my husband have paired up to create a fascinating world of their own even as she works to finish her brother’s books he left purposely to prevent her from following him. A task that never seemed to be as magically enchanted or conjured up as it does now after having read something he insisted I would enjoy.

Like the story’s overall journey how the unlikely became some much greater, having learned now who the Heir of Novron is, I have to wonder if perhaps someone close to me now is the next great Michael Sullivan of story tellers.

I hope in some way in all of this I am someone like Sullivan’s Myron and I will be able to bear witness and remark of the story later.

Hvalas Author Michael Sullivan for such a great creation and to my friend Talon ps for having played the part of Hadrian and insisted upon it. And stealing a word from his twin so I can say: the Riyria Revelations series is just EXTRADORINARY!

 BIGGER

Preacher, the ultimate Master of discipline, has a long line of subs pleading for his special brand of punishment. Every moment of control is like a feast to him, until the day he meets the one woman who needs his help the most.

Rose is a woman with deep secrets. When the layers of her frenzied life slowly fall apart, putting her mind and body in survival mode, she meets the one Dominant who refuses to let her hide behind her excuses any longer.

Will her natural submissive nature allow Preacher to help her overcome past pain and hurt? Or will she run as she has her whole life, leaving her empty and full of shame, only to regret the rest of her days?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, talk about getting right to the point!   Once again, I find myself eating my words and assorted other complaints about novellas in general.    “Preacher’, Master Brice, doesn’t give you time to ponder white noise.   In a very brief and very effective prologue the reader gets the salient details about the sought-after pain Master, and his Confessional.    The same attention is paid to Rose, as the sub with a painful history and a burning requirement for the type of therapy Preacher is known to dispense with exacting success.
…And then it’s right to the heart of the matter with a quick but vivid retrospective look at Rose’s triggers, and of Master B’s intervention.   I’m not a “spoiler” person, so suffice it to say, with a family like Rose’s it is no wonder her façade has inherent weaknesses.   But the utter vindictiveness that eventually undermines her already shaky foundation is beyond the pale.   A past Dom, and current friend, rescues her from family-induced emotional withdrawal and orchestrates the culminating, very public and ultimately successful intervention meted out by Preacher.
An epilogue as concise and effective as the prologue provides perhaps one of the most satisfying moments in the tale for me in that it acknowledges Rose’s emotional breakthrough and her new-found security with Preacher, while not pretending the heart of the problem has magically disappeared in one moment of forced enlightenment.    It is made clear that, as with most things in life, self-acceptance is a dynamic and ongoing process.   We are left content that Rose is in good hands.
…And of course, that her friend and former Dom, Taylor, with a past of his own, is poised to be the next ‘Confessor’ at The Spanking Bench…
