The Joyful Part of Writing: Friends

In my last blog post, I asked the question, “Does writing a novel ever get easier?”In it, I shared some of the miseries and craziness that goes on in a writer’s head and/or life.
This time, I want to share one of the joys: Other writers.
On Monday I returned from the 14th annual brainstorming retreat that I have been a part of from the start. I have bloggedbefore about how these brainstorming retreats work. (And please don’t confuse brainstorming with plotting. Althoug...

Does Writing a Novel Ever Get Easier?
Three weeks ago, I hit the Send key on my computer, and away went my latest manuscript to my editor (as well as to my agent). Trust me, sending in a manuscript is a fearful moment for me. I am too aware that I haven’t achieved all that I’d hoped to achieve when I first began writing the story.
My agent and I just celebrated our 27th “anniversary,” and if there is one thing I know about this brilliant woman, it is that she will be brutally honest with me about a book’s strengths and weaknesses...

June 2016 Wrap Up
Where on earth did June go? For me it was crazy, crazy, crazy busy.

I completed reading seven books in the month of June. All but one were fiction, and all but two were audiobooks. On the latter, may I just add that I am more and more thankful for the invention of unabridged audiobooks.
The single non-fiction book is the one I must highlight.Women of the Wordis a great book for learning how to study the Bible with both your heart and your mind. And if y...

Heart Rings now available for your Kindle
Years ago, I was given a “story jar.” A mason jar that contained miscellaneous items, like buttons and an earring and a sewing needle and a small writing pen and a ribbon, etc. The idea behind it was that when a writerneeded a story idea, she would lookat the items in the jar, choose one, and then begin to spin a tale about it. Eventually that story jar inspired a collection of novellas in a book that becameThe Story Jar.
I’m pleased to announce that Heart Rings,my novella fromThe Story Jar,i...
