Social Studies and Common Core

Look at this Map of Time. Is this your version of American History? If this was what you learned would you value our country and its rich heritage? Just what is the purpose here? Look through this stuff and ask yourself, is it any wonder our children are now committing suicide in large numbers?

REWRITE THE BILL OF RIGHTS. Have these students have already mastered the history of the world the led up to the War of Independence and the efforts to secure these liberties? Are they building support for a Constitutional Convention to rewrite our Constitution? They teach that the Constitution is outdated. Remember, many states are now calling for a Constitution Convention (CON CON). What do you think would happen there after this stuff has been drilled into your child’s head?
You can see below that many parents are concerned that this Common Core curriculum is actually more about indoctrination than education.

There has been a lot of controversy lately surrounding the War on Terror. Many Americans feel as though the Patriot Act is infringing upon our privacy and other individual liberties while others feel protected by it. The government of the United States is currently revisiting the Bill of Rights. They have determined that it is outdated and may not remain in its current form much longer.
TRULY? What is the purpose of having children rewrite the Bill of Rights? Have they been taught the world situation when this Constitution and its Bill of Rights came to be? Been introduced to the Federalist Papers? History? Literature? What ARE the purposes for these selections?

MULTICULTURALISM AND SOCIAL STUDIES

Perhaps you should read what was UNDER REVIEW for this school district to understand the purpose for all of this.

Objective: To introduce to students the conflicting narratives of different American groups (cultural/racial/religious/political/etal) in concert with the framework and foundations of traditional history to make relevant and authentic the real life experience and application of the American ideals of liberty, equality, and justice. America's conflicting narratives are inherent in a pluralistic, multicultural and evolving nation where the established and dominant interests (major political parties, with majority, males, corporations, property owning and wealthy elite and political leadership supported by a compliant middle class, traditionalists) are dedicated to maintaining a status quo that preserves their interests but is fundamentally in conflict with its national commitment to the American ideals of "liberty and Justice for all." It is only by contrasting the real with the ideal, by matching calamity with inspiration, suffering with outrage, and the worst of human indignities with the demand for utilizing fully all of our nation's potential, that students will understand and appreciate the complexity and challenge of the "American Experiment." This class is inspired by the words of Howard Zinn, "If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something If we remember that those times and places--and there are many--where people behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction. Knowledge, inspiration and the capacity to exercise our human potential is a compelling basis for the study of our nation's history.

Teachers should use a wide variety of resources that include but are not limited to primary source documents such as the memoirs, letters and documents excerpts from the works of multicultural educators such as Zinn, Takaki, and Nash, materials available from top-notch online resources such as Teaching Tolerance, Digital History Reader, History Teaching Institute, PBS, A & E biography, Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution and the Constitutional Rights Foundation, and music and art that gives voice to these traditionally excluded or minimized traditional history books. Such varied resources enable students to find the study of our nation's history as an inspirational, provocative, challenging and useful discipline for 21st century students.

So, who is Howard Zinn mentioned in such glowing terms above?

http://drrichswier.com/2014/08/08/com...and why would people (like the Illinois Council of History Educators be concerned:  http://www.ilche.net/documents/ILCHE%... https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/20...

PLEASE NOTE. This is taken from ABOVE:
"HEADED BY DAVID COLEMAN, WHO MOST CONSIDER THE ARCHITECT OF COMMON CORE, THE COLLEGE BOARD IS A PRIVATE, NONPROFIT THAT FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY HAS SET STANDARDS FOR COLLEGE ADMISSIONS. IT ESSENTIALLY DICTATES WHAT HIGH SCHOOLS NEED TO TEACH THEIR STUDENTS IN DISCIPLINES FROM MATH TO HISTORY TO ENGLISH IN PREPARING THE FOR COLLEGE. TEACHERS WHO USED TO TEACH FROM A FIVE-PAGE FRAMEWORK, NOW RECEIVE A 98-PAGE, DETAILED SET OF INSTRUCTIONS ON WHAT HISTORY SHOULD BE TAUGHT. "
Now, who is David Coleman and why is he important to Common Core and Social Studies Education? Other than now being in charge of the College Boards ($750,0000 per year) and aligning them to the "Standards" he wrote for Common Core?

David Coleman, known as the architect of Common Core, is the son of the former president of Bennington College, Liz Coleman, graduate of the University of Chicago, a big proponent of big government and Marxist ideology. Coleman’s prior association with Bill Ayers, Barach Obama and Arne Duncan probably helped his appointment.
Or it could be Coleman’s philosophy: “These standards are the most serious attempt this country has yet made to come to grips with those early sources of inequality.”
He has no background as a teacher. He is a Sociologist and also president of the College Board (yearly salary $550,000 total compensation $750,000).  He will make changes to the SAT to make it more "socially just". (This should set up red alert warning flags for Home and Christian schooled children who will need to pass these tests to get into college.)
Coleman and Zimba, co-founders of the New York based GROW network, came to Chicago to produce data studies for the Chicago Anenberg Challenge (CAC) at the time Barach Obama was on the CAC Board-- brought on board by Bill Ayers and Chicago’s Superintendent of Schools, Arne Duncan--later U.S. Secretary of Education. CAC paid $2.2 million for the services of Coleman and Zimba in data studies.
Bill Ayers' was a domestic terrorist and co-founder Weatherman Movment who founded the Small School Movement. Ayers is also past vice-president of the curriculum studies division of the American Educational Research Association. Ayers’ articles have appeared in many journals including the Harvard Educational Review, the Journal of Teacher Education, Teachers College Record, Rethinking Schools, The Nation, Educational Leadership, the New York Times and the Cambridge Journal of Education. So now you know what is going into and coming out of colleges of education.
Why would the connection to Bill Ayers be important? He and his wife, former domestic terrorist Bernadine Dorne continue writing radical manifestos and promoting their radical ideology through now mainstream education journals

Despite the terrorism

 and admitted (boasted) radicalism (anarchy)

Ayers and his wife continue to promote their ideology, writing books and speaking throughout the country

and now through their associate, David Coleman, architect of Common Core, they have achieved domination of America's education system.

Ayers hired Barach Obama to supervise $110 million for the Chicago Anenberg Project that admittedly achieved no academic improvement for the school children of Chicago.

Where did the money go? Chicago Public Schools where barely 1 in 4 read at grade level?

Government is a family that is meant to take care of you.

Apparently it is important for the HR department to know that you are a History/Social Justice Teacher.

You will have been prepared for equity pedagogy.

Advantages of Multicultural Education: Teach students to critique society in the interest of social justice.
This Multicultural (socialist) Agenda is taught as righteous in colleges of education. Affective means attitudes and beliefs. “Where an affective variable refers to systemic evidence regarding individuals’ different degrees of emotions, interests, attitudes, and values affect is a fundamental aspect of being human because it plays such an integral role in human motivation and behavior...” Their intent is quite clear here that the colleges of education intend to modify your child’s attitudes and beliefs to their standards.

The Marxist Hugo Chavez is a hero of the Left. And now, he will be your child's hero as well. Under the guise of multiculturalism.

People worked together to change this. Workers like Cesar Chavez organized the workers. People all over the country marched with them. The farmers listened. They gave the workers more pay and better homes. It is possible to improve our lives if we work together! Make connections:How are the animals in Click, Clock Moo: Cows that type like the people in "March On!"

What background information on Communism accompanied this lesson? What opinion would a child develop when exposed to this leading and biased question? What attitude will they grade on his/her psycho-social assessment?

Texas online progressive curriculum Cscope from K-12 is pushing a progressive ideology that undermines America’s Heritage while promoting a positive view of Islam and Communism. Above is a question from a High School World History Assessment Test.
A-is to be the correct answer.  I never thought I would live to see the day where our Texas schools would promote the idea in our children minds that the proven failure of a Totalitarian Communist form of  governing as something to be viewed as a SUCCESS.
Not only have the Communist takeovers proven to be TRAGIC AND EVIL, but the fact that you have those in our Texas education system promoting this ideology as something positive is also TRAGIC and EVIL.
Communism has contributed to the death of up to 100 Million people.  There is no FREEDOM under Communism. Will they be taught this?

Does this sound like an open minded discussion of Immigration? What is so difficult to understand about the term ILLEGAL immigrants? Who controls the wealth and resources of a society?

Group Identity and Social Class

Do you remember politics being a part of your curriculum? I read sweet little stories and went home happy. What is this doing to our children? 5th grade???????

Liberal or Conservative?

Righty or Lefty? Lifeboat exercise. Don’t you love it that your child must think about who should live and who should die.

What is the real purpose of this text?
For others, opportunity means the chance to reunite families, get an education, or live in peace. For all Americans the ideal of opportunity raises important questions. Has the United States offered equal opportunity to all of its citizens? Or have some enjoyed more opportunity to pursue their dreams than have others? Is it enough to “level the playing field” so that everyone has the same chance to succeed in life? Or should special efforts be made to expand opportunities for the least fortunate among us?

Political Spectrum Practice Questions

How well did the German scientists in the 20th century adhere to the key habits of scientific thinking?

So you see how children are mobilized as social activists and teachers will actually encourage them to march and protest (time out of the classroom) on social issues they approve.

Students will present the project to the appropriate authority agency or board.

9/11 Homework  Morbid?

Read this First Grade Reading assignment.

Your children are trained to become social activists. They are trained through this Voices Democracy series to advocate solutions to social problems beginning in the first grade.
First Grade engagement in social activism.

Social values that unite us as a country. Then you identify those social obstacles and with group problem solving and social justice address those issues. Use Emotional words when they write a call to action.
They should include emotional words to get readers to feel so strongly about the problem that they want to do what is being asked of them.
Parents may be upset or angry by this sentence?
So how does one GRADE these attributes: Social Viewpoint and Social Problem Solving? Or are these questions to guide one in how to adjust those attitudes?
Pearson owns these business and publishers. If you have books by these publishers you have Common Core. Whoever controls the textbooks and the curriculum controls the future of our country.

And what is the ultimate Agenda here?

Traditional or Progressive? Do you know the difference? Has politics affected your child’s Mathematics skills?

Look at this headline! And now, according to the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) Alabama has dropped from 26 to 51st in the nation in Reading and Math.
When we call for a return to Traditional Education do you know what we mean?

We know Progressive Education doesn’t work for academic preparation or we wouldn't keep having so many efforts to "fix it." So what IS the goal?
I thought I would try to explain what has happened with Math. First you have tounderstand that there are competing philosophies of education at work here.
TRADITIONAL versus PROGRESSIVE (WHOLE LANGUAGE)
SMALL TO WHOLE (constructionist) v WHOLE TO PART (deconstructionist)
DIRECT INSTRUCTION versus INFERENTIAL LEARNING (guessing, estimating,risk-taking)

SAGE ON THE STAGE (TEACHER DIRECTED)
versus GUIDE ON THE SIDE (FACILITATOR)
SEQUENTIAL INSTRUCTION

versus THEMATIC INSTRUCTION (taking a themelike the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima

INTEGRATING subjects like English,History, Science, Mathematics and sex education)

PATRIOTISM/NATIONALISM

verus SOCIALJUSTICE/GLOBALISM

INDIVIDUAL (INDIVIDUALISM) EFFORT

vs. CO-OPERATIVE LEARNING (COMMUNALISM) You model attitudes and beliefs by modeling behavior.
CAPITALISM vs. SOCIALISM
What they are now being taught

KNOWLEDGE BASED vs. SKILLS BASED
COGNITIVE (Testing measures empirical data on academic achievement) vs. ATTITUDINAL/AFFECTIVE (How do students feel about it?)
COMPUTER (tool) v COMPUTER (teacher, tester, change agent modifying attitudesand beliefs)
HOMESCHOOL children mostly use traditional materials/methods, as do ABEKA and CLASSICAL schools  versus  PUBLIC SCHOOLS and many Catholic and private schoolsthat have bought into Common Core with its Progressive Agenda.
PHONICS (sounding out the words, then drill and repetition)
versus Whole Language

Old Math (memorizing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division tables) v.
NEW MATH

Goals 2000 and Common Core have institutionalized the Progressive methodology and its agenda in our schools.
But, how can Math be converted to Social Justice?

Elitist Harvard graduates like Bill Gates (attended, dropped out to start Microsoft, awarded honorary degree)
... then you have William McCallum, PhD, said to be the lead writer of the Common Core State Standards in mathematics.

Dr. William McCallum, Harvard graduate, mentioned above in Chamber Foundation film, apparently replaced Dr. James Milgram (who refused to sign off on the standards).

Seeing the influence of Harvard and Mathematics education along with the Paolo Freire cult, it is not difficult to see the direction McCallum would take in establishing “Standards” for Mathematics.

Though Freire has passed on, his imprint remains a part of the Harvard legacy.  Not only do none of those developing Standards have a concept of what is developmentally appropriate, they have been indoctrinated into what they call deconstructionism or radical math, a part of liberation pedagogy a philosophy developed by defrocked Marxist priest who once led the Nicaragua liberation theology movement.
But, we live with the consequences of the Progressive Movement in our schools.

When we call for a return to Traditional Education do you NOW know what wemean? We know Progressive Education doesn’t work for academic preparation.
So what IS the goal?

DELPHI TECHNIQUE, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AND THE EDUCATION ESTABLISHMENT CONVINCED THE GULLIBLE NATION TO BUY INTO COMMON CORE

So, what is the Delphi Technique? Let the Chamber of Commerce tell you.

According to Leadership and Project Management Training with its Chamber Series-- obviously a technique that one must consider the ethics of using. Possibly unethical?
"The gist of it is that the technique is used to reach a predetermined conclusion. In other words, to manipulate the group. It has evidently become popular within politics to give the impression that public input is actually having an impact on decisions when in reality, the decision has been made already, and the group is being guided, unknowingly, toward that end."
That does sound unethical, and to be sure maybe we should look at the definition of 'ethical'. I think we all know and understand what is and isn't ethical behavior. It's doing the right thing for the right reasons. However, the actual definition of the word places it in the context of the standards of the profession.
There is an old axiom that the only difference between motivation and manipulation is intent, and I think that is the issue here. In our world of project management, we strive to act in the most ethical manner possible at all times. There are ethical ways to employ the Delphi Technique and there are unethical ways to use it to manipulate data and people. Therefore, the technique itself is neither ethical nor unethical. Techniques and tools do not differentiate between right and wrong, people do!"
Consider the difference between motivation and manipulation. But of course, the ends justify the means.
And money was surely never the motivating factor...

That nearly $2,000,000 donated by Bill and Melinda Gates to the Chamber of Commerce Foundation to support the Common Core Standards had nothing to do with it their support and complicity in the adoption of Common Core! They didn’t really process communities to support this agenda without knowing the results of pilots and knowing the consequences of those Standards, Curriculum, and Assessments on a trial group. Surely they would not make the entire nation of children guinea pigs. Would they? And who funds the US Chamber Foundation?

Notice the Harvard connection of Dr. William McCallum who claims in this Chamber film to be the lead writer of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and distinguished professor of mathematics at the University of Arizona. What does that mean other than connections with Bill Gates...
and the advocates of Radical Mathematics
What about Bill Gates to UNESCO and the World Core curriculum? Might there be some influence there on Common Core?

What!?  The University of Florida might use the Delphi Technique?
The National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers only have the best interest of our children at heart and they would surely make sure there had been enough research done on Common Core before subjecting all children in this nation to a curriculum.  No? Gates money entered even here?

And who is Florida’s Chief State Officer? Pam Stewart. I assume her B.S. degree in elementary education, her Masters in Counseling and certification in Educational Leadership surely qualifies her to determine the curriculum for all children in Florida. We know she is supported on the Board by the guy (Olenick) who headed the legal defense for Jeb Bush in the A-Plus (Goals 2000) Education Plan. (See also: https://sharmanbursonramsey.blogspot....)
In Dothan, we were processed through Delphi at Northview High School and the eventual product wound up with hiring someone to rewrite the Board’s Bylaws and changing education from SEQUENTIAL learning as our local board then required (pre 1990) to THEMATIC INSTRUCTION. Oh, yes, phonics was banned because it took drill and repetition to teach children phonemic awareness and as you can see, 21st century learners “balk at rote learning and memorizing.”

Just in case you didn't know.
And now, called "21st-century skills”, and it is generally used to refer to certain core “competencies” such as “collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving that advocates believe schools need to teach to help students thrive in today's world.”
What proof they have of this, I have no clue. Other than as in the Alinsky Rules for Radicals No. 11, “If you push a negative hard enough it will push through and become a positive.”
"Skills based" learning rather than knowledge based would seem to me to rank right up there with one of those negatives pushed hard enough to become a positive.
You must believe that “21st century learners” “balk at rote learning and memorizing…

This is what they mean by "skills based" rather than "knowledge based."

This is why students do not learn to sound out words after learning Phonics rules or learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, division tables. It is now against the rules to use DIRECT INSTRUCTION because they prefer INFERENTIAL-- guessing, estimating and risk taking are considered skills -- and they call that learning. (See also: https://sharmanbursonramsey.blogspot....)
Project based group “learning” is for sociologists to succeed in making us all a part of a co-operative (socialism) undermining individualism (and capitalism). It isn't for academic excellence.
They say that Interdisciplinary project-based, inquiry-based learning is evident throughout the school. Interpreting Eduspeak that means THEMATIC INSTRUCTION, with subjects INTEGRATED into the lessons not SEQUENTIAL, yet sequential learning, direct instruction and old methods of Mathematics got us to the moon. (See Also: https://sharmanbursonramsey.blogspot....)

Just so you see this is nothing new. The same complaints as met Walter Johnson and his Project Method are coming forth from conservatives today. They then claimed that the specter of collectivism was sneaking into the schools and they had to be “sentinels” to protect capitalist America.
Guess what? These collectivists now determine the Standards for your schools, write the curriculum, and administer the tests collecting data on your children.

Enter Bill Gates. Bill Gates was the de facto organizer, providing the money andstructure for states to work together on common standards in a way that avoided the usual collision between states' rights and national interests that had undercut every previous effort dating from the Eisenhower administration

And here in Florida the Chief Economist for the Florida Chamber of Commerce is Jerry Parrish.

And what are his credentials other than also being a Harvard graduate?

 He is a Microsoft salesman!

"The idea that the richest man in the U.S. can purchase and --working closely with
the U.S.Department of Education--impose new and untested academic standards on the nation's public schools is a national scandal."
The funding of the NGA (National Governor's Association) and CCSSO (Councilof Chief State School Officers) suggests where their accountability lies. Since 2007,NGA and CCSSO have accepted approximately $100 million from the Gates Foundation alone to advance the standards and the connected data-collection and assessments. These organizations do not answer to the people, they answer to an enormously powerful funder with a definite agenda. NGA and CCCSO alsoget substantial funding from the federal government for CCSSO, about half itsoperating funds).
Did Bill Gates agreement with UNESCO and aligning with the World Core Curriculum have anything to do with Jerry Parrish promoting Common Core to Florida? Does he know? Does he even care? Or could it be money? Power?

UNESCO was formed with the intention to serve as the world's school board. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation didn't just bankroll the development of what became known as the Common Core Standards. With more than $200 million, the foundation also built political support across the country, persuading state governments to make systemic and costly changes.
Bill and Melinda Gates, Obama and Arne Duncan are parents of school-age children, although none of those children attend schools that use the Common Core Standards. The Gates and Obama children attend private schools in Virginia, one of four states that never adopted the Common Core. Gates has said that one of the benefits of common standards would be to open the classroom to digital learning making it easier for software developers--including Microsoft--to develop newproducts for the country's 15,000 school districts.
The Florida and Alabama Chamber of Commerce are the PR arm of this agenda.

Jerry Parrish, Harvard graduate, Microsoft representative, find inspiration promoting a national curriculum that coincides with the World Core Curriculum Gates signed on to with UNESCO.
Where do you think this man's loyalties lie?
Much money is coming into the Florida Chamber Foundation through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Certainly that is not considered an investment for future gain. Do you think?
Surely sales opportunities would have nothing to do with his advice.
...Microsoft announced that it was joining Pearson, the world's largest educational publisherto load Pearson's Common Core classroom materials on Microsoft's tablet, the Surface. That product allows Microsoft to compete for school district spending with Apple, whose iPad is the dominant tablet in classrooms.
And how about the sales of that data on your child collected through those computers?
With the national curriculum (COMMON CORE) in place, worker bees will be trained according to their vision. Plato's vision of the ELITE among us ruling is set!

Who are you going to believe? Bill Gates or your lying eyes?

Thank you Goals 2000. Thank you A Plus. Thank you, Chamber of Commerce. Your PR and Delphi got the bylaws for our local schools rewritten and there went traditional education.

 WHERE ARE THE SENTINELS NOW?

...Microsoft announced that it was joining Pearson, the world's largest educational publisher
to load Pearson's Common Core classroom materials on Microsoft's tablet, the Surface. That
product allows Microsoft to compete for school district spending with Apple, whose iPad is t
he dominant tablet in classrooms.  And how about the sales of that data on your child collected through those computers?

With the national curriculum (COMMON CORE) in place, worker bees will be
trained according to their vision. Plato's vision of the ELITE among us ruling is set!Is this fair??
When we call for a return to Traditional Education do you NOW know what we
mean? We know Progressive Education doesn’t work for academic preparation.
So what IS the goal?

Response to AL.Com article Alabama Superintendent Proposal to Raise Academic Standards."

Barack Obama and Bill Ayers on the Chicago Anenberg ProjectI was MIA during much of the Alabama Civil War in Education over Common Core. My husband retired and I had already gotten my children educated (thank God). And then the grandchildren came along and I realized God wasn't through with me, yet. I still have (grand) children in Alabama (Mobile and Dothan) and Panama City.Let me tell you about my experience in the trenches with some of the folks mentioned in this article on AL.Com, "Alabama Superintendent Proposal to Raise Academic Standards." First, Caroline Novak's name continues to come up. It was her group that first organized my original experience with the Delphi Technique (https://sharmanbursonramsey.blogspot....).

Novak is the president and co-founder of the Alabama APlus Education Partnership, supposedly a grassroots effort to bring about education reform. I encountered Novak in the early 1990s when our Back to Basics group tried to get Phonics back in the schools after being condemned to the ash heaps by the education establishment through Whole Language. Through the Delphi Technique we were processed into "consensus" and Whole Language (Progressive Education) got insitutionalized into Alabama schools. My friend, Michele Buck, and I observed David Hornbeck (Hillary Clinton associate on the National Center of Education and the Economy and author of Human Capital -- a.k.a. our children) getting Alabama's supposed "grassroots" education "reform plan" off the fax machine in the Superintendent of Education's office in Montgomery.
Florida has one of the same ilk ON THE FLORIDA STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION! "Olenick, 62, had been general counsel to the education department, and he also served on the "legal team in defense of the A+ Education Plan," former Gov. Jeb Bush's signature education effort, according to the Florida Department of Management Services." (Orlando Sentinel, Jan. 23, 2015)Whenever I see that organization listed, I know exactly what I am in for and it is NOT GOOD EDUCATION! It is more political jargon about college and career readiness which means Outcome Based Education, a dumbing down to the lowest possible common denominator. LIE! "The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led initiative that was intended to set similar standards in all states and raise the bar for states who had low standards." There was nothing state led about it! These "Standards" were written by a coalition of Chicago Anenberg Project (led by Bill Ayers, domestic terrorist co-founder Weather Underground, and Barack Obama) alumni, including self-proclaimed architect DAVID COLEMAN (degree in Sociology, now rewriting the College Boards), and Jason Zimba (In 2010, Jason Zimba, a lead writer, said the standards are “not only not for STEM, they are also not for selective colleges.”). These "Standards" were rejected by Dr. James Milgram an original member of the "Standards Committee." Dr. Milgram and Dr. Sandra Stotsky also an original member and one of the two educators on the committee say Common Core will make American children roughly two years behind (already dumbed down by APLus in the 90s!!!!!). Then they say "The Alabama PTA, the National Education Association and other education groups have embraced the standards and continue to advocate to keep them."That same group got Delphi (ed) into supporting the A Plus "reform" as well. Caroline Novak, quoted in the article on AL.com, president of A+ Education Partnership and co-chair of Alabama GRIT (Graduate Ready Impact Tomorrow), sent out a statement after the board's discussion, saying in part, "Without question, Alabama's students deserve the highest academic standards possible, and what we have in place today are the most rigorous expectations in the state's history." HOGWASH!Novak said, "Every year, Alabama has seen growth in students' achievement, including reduced remediation rates and improved workforce readiness rates. Students and teachers are rising to the challenge of Alabama's rigorous academic expectations."LIE! The NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) shows that Alabama has fallen from 26 in the nation to 51 in the nation. Following HER DIRECTION through A-PLUS!Many of us just left the arena and ran for the hills. But this new group with the Common Core curriculum are not just radicals, they are anarchists like those being brought up in Bill Ayers' Small School Movement. (Ayers is past vice-president of the curriculum studies division of the American Educational Research Association. Ayers’ articles have appeared in many journals including the Harvard Educational Review, the Journal of Teacher Education, Teachers College Record, Rethinking Schools, The Nation, Educational Leadership, the New York Times and the Cambridge Journal of Education, just so you know what is going into and coming out of colleges of education.)
Ayers is also a founder of the Antifa group Refuse Fascism that includes Carl I. Dix founder Communist Revolutionary Party, USA,and Cornel West among others.
Do we know what works in education? Of course we do. There are still some holdouts across the country that remain true to tried and true methods, though they are fewer and harder to come by as the Chamber of Commerce (as represented by Novak and Olenick) continues its delusion encouraged by "experts" with brief cases and pressed white shirts, or pretty legs and high heels, when they come to present their sales pitch. Or, as in Florida, now with Common Core by a salesman for Microsoft.

The Chicago Connection to Common Core

THE CHICAGO CONNECTION
to COMMON CORE

Let's see. Chicago has probably the worst schools in the nation, yet the Chicago Anenburg project spent at least $387 million to improve education in Chicago. Hillary Clinton is from Chicago, wrote her senior thesis on Saul Alinsky, also of Chicago. Bill Ayers former Weatherman got off on a technicality and went into school curriculum. He was an official of the Chicago Anenburg project ...along with Barack Obama. The CAC, a multi-million dollar left-wing foundation was controlled by domestic terrorist Bill Ayers.
Ayers hired Barack Obama as Chairman of the Board of the CAC, even though he had no experience whatsoever. Ayers, who supposedly didn't have any relationship with Obama, put the younger man in charge of roughly $110 million and thereby jump-started his career.
http://eagnews.org/common-cores-chica...

Ayers of Weatherman fame and his wife continue to write and speak on revolutionary topics.

Ayers is also a promoter of Antifa.

Look at some of the materials in common core, promoted by Arne Duncan, former Secretary of Education, also of Chicago.  Add caption
It is interesting that Ayers and his wife wrote a book recently, Race Course Against White Supremacy. Odd that Common Core includes that topic.

This makes me feel oh so very good about what is in our children's text books. Check out Alinsky's rules for radicals. I would say they are on track.

Oh, yes, Chicago has a 47% illiteracy rate. So maybe that Chicago Anenburg Project was a practice test for Common Core. And maybe it succeeded... if anarchy is your goal. I dare you to follow the link on the link and read the article below on social justice.

Alinsky Method and Roy Moore

PICK THE TARGET, FREEZE IT, PERSONALIZE IT AND THEN POLARIZE IT. Cut off the support network and isolate it from sympathy. Go after people, not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. Saul Alinsky method number 13. Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. Saul Alinsky Number 5.

"Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble." The Washington Swamp continues stirring it's witches brew. The Sanhedrin of the Pious in the media target, freeze, personalize and polarize a good Conservative, God-fearing man. The court of their opinion met and condemn the man with no hearing, merely allegations. And they are to be believed because...? And Judge Moore is to be condemned automatically because ...?Do you remember the Kindergarten teachers in California that were falsely accused of child abuse? Do you remember the young men in the Duke Lacrosse scandal? Do I believe those women? Where do you think the term "mean girls" came from? Out of ether? The only real evidence I read was that one claimant's mother went to court in 1979 and that Roy Moore then had an office in the court house. By 1982 Moore was running for office on a values campaign. Do you not think someone would have come out then? We have seen enough venom, lies and vindictiveness based on a fake dossier paid for by the Hillary Clinton Campaign and the DNC that should make us all think twice about believing anything that comes out of the media. Especially in Washington and New York. With Democrats or Republicans. The Swamp Creatures are desperately clinging to power. They thought all they had set up would be set in concrete with a Clinton victory. What do they fear he might find?I challenge you as time goes by to go to your newspaper and listen to your television set with these Rules for Radicals in mind. Don't believe a thing you read or hear without challenging it all. There is an agenda here. They have no qualms with using lies. Challenge theirs with demanding TRUTH with yours. What is your agenda? Is it important enough to you to step out and speak up? Or perhaps this is your agenda and the ends justifies the means. If so, our country is in even more trouble than I had thought.

COMMON CORE = PETRI DISH FOR RADICALS

Imagine this is your child. Now, imagine what she must endure in today's classrooms.

When you see the term Whole Language always replace it with Progressive Education and equate it with Common Core. As you read, you will understand why.

Reading is basic to education. As a teacher, this was where I first saw education co-opted by the radicals. Throughout this article I will quote from the Whole Language Catalog, published in 1991, written by Ken and Yetta Goodman with Lois Bird, the Bible or Manifesto, of the Progressive Left in Education. “We are not just asking for a change in the teaching of reading, but a radical change in the society and political structure of schooling and society (Giroux and McLaren, 1986).”

Whole Language Catalog

And so it began. We all wondered why our schools produced so many illiterates. I guess it really began with John Dewey.

Or maybe Horace Mann.

“We who are engaged in the sacred cause of education are entitled to look upon all parents as having given hostages to our cause.” Enlightening, isn’t it? So, when your child enters a government school you have sacrificed your child to their cause. Think again when you hear someone espouse their “belief” in public school.
Their disciples are alive and well in the colleges of education. I will quote from their philosophers.

Let me introduce you to Paolo Freire, an obvious hero for this Leftist Movement to control our schools. He was instrumental in Nicaragua as a defrocked Marxist Jesuit priest who fomented liberation theology before being invited by Harvard to be a visiting professor. He published Pedagogy of the Oppressed in 1968. In 1979 Jimmy Carter advocated for a Cabinet level Department of Education and America gave away local control of education to the radical educators of the time in spite of a violation of the 10th Amendment that should have kept Education with the States. This philosophy now dominates the colleges of education. Freire is known as the father of liberation pedagogy. Did you know that when you sent your child to become a teacher? Or chose that profession yourself? Or sent a child into that school?

Paolo Freire, Freire for the Classroom: A Sourcebook for Liberatory Teaching: This is a great discovery, education is politics! When a teacher discovers that he or she is a politician, too, the teacher has to ask, What kind of politics am I doing in the classroom? That is, in favor of whom am I being a teacher? The teacher works in favor of something and against something. Because of that, he or she will have another great question, How to be consistent in my teaching practice with my political choice? I cannot proclaim my liberating dream and in the next day be authoritarian in my relationship with the students. Whole Language CatalogFreire has been quite influential. This is a screen shot from Google on Freire and Harvard. And these are just a few. As they reveal here ...”their Eurocentric culturally dominated curricula must be rejected as resistant to seeing schools as places for educating students to be critical citizens in a vital democratic society. On the other hand progressive views of literacy must openly acknowledge their own pedagogical practice that deepen the goals of democratic struggle and cultural justice.” Whole Language CatalogNow, you and I thought we were sending our children to school to learn to read, write and calculate. We wanted a cultural literacy to be shared with our children so that we might all assimilate into this wonderful America. Instead, Education was hijacked to become “Transformative Pedagogy.” Whole Language Catalog
Time progressed and Freire became a hero of the Harvard Leftists. Bill Gates funded Common Core. Common Core is financed with over $150 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The collaboration of the Gates Foundation and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has been well publicized. In addition, Gates, on behalf of his Microsoft Corporation, signed a 26-page Cooperation Agreement in 2004 between Microsoft and UNESCO to develop a “master curriculum” which included benchmarks and assessments. The agreement stipulates that “UNESCO will explore how to facilitate content development.”Common Core fits right in with the goals of Agenda 21 of the United Nations:

...It is also critical for achieving environmental and ethical awareness, values and attitudes, skills and behavior consistent with sustainable development and for effective public participation in decision-making. To be effective, environment and development education should deal with the dynamics of both the physical/biological and socio-economic environment and human (which may include spiritual development, should be integrated in all disciplines...
Now Bill Gates and the United Nations are who I would have chosen to determine what my child learns in school. Wouldn’t you? I am being sarcastic here.

Whose advice would Gates have sought in redesigning education? How about Harvard? And, of course, those involved in the Chicago Annenberg Project. The major writers of Common Core included David Coleman, known as the architect of Common Core. He is the son of the former president of Bennington College, Liz Coleman, graduate of the University of Chicago, a big proponent of big government and Marxist ideology.

He is also president of the College Board (yearly salary $550,000 total compensation $750,000) and will make changes to the SAT to make it more socially just. (This should set up red alert warning flags for Home and Christian schooled children who will need to pass these tests to get into college.)

Coleman and Zimba, co-founders of the New York based GROW network, came to Chicago to produce data studies for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) at the time Obama was on the CAC Board brought on board by Bill Ayers and Chicago’s Superintendent of Schools, Arne Duncan--later U.S. Secretary of Education. CAC paid $2.2 million for the services of Coleman and Zimba in data studies.

And now we get back to Paulo Freire, a Harvard idol.Freire brought great influence on Common Core Math. As you can see, Paulo Freire’s critical education theory is “re-invented” in the context of application to teaching basic mathematics ...” “...teaching mathematics for social justice course assisted, in part, in providing not only a new language but also a legitimization in teachers becoming critical mathematics pedagogues.”
Is it any wonder our children are not taught to truly add, subtract, multiply or divide. That is not the purpose. They are to explicitly connect issues of social justice, not competent computational skills. We must lower the standards to produce equity, not excellence.

Now, since you can figure out where all of this came from, let’s get a bit more of the Whole Language Catalog supported with such vehement evangelistic fervor by our teachers.

This potential for equalizing and democratizing the schools leads to the issue of how whole language changes the power base of traditional schools as well as society. Paulo Freire (1970) points out that traditional approaches to learning and literacy create a group of passive objects in which knowledge is deposited, instead of a group of active subjects capable of transcending and transforming their sociopolitical reality. In a skills approach the learners, especially low-income and minority students, are treated as passive objects who aren't expected to act on their environment.
Whole Language Catalog
I ran for the Dothan School Board in the early nineties. It was difficult, but I finally got to read the By-Laws, something one might think is important to understand. One fact jumped out at me. Learning was to be SEQUENTIAL... building from simple to complex, from smaller to larger skills. The Whole Language Catalog explains this below through their chart of contrasting models of education --Transmission model (Traditional Education) as contrasted to the Transactional Model (Whole Language a.k.a. Progressive/Common Core). Remember now, this is from the Whole Language Catalog. This is what they are telling you about themselves.TRANSMISSION/TRADITIONALEm... on direct teaching, controlled by the program and secondly by the teacher. (Contemptuously referred to as sage on the stage)Behaviorist model of learningLearning is viewed as a matter of building from simple to complex, from smaller to larger skillsSince correctness is valued, risk-taking is discouraged/penalizedAll learners are expected to master what is taught, when it is taught, thus, most children experience varying degrees of failureAbility to reproduce or verbalize a predetermined correct response as taken as evidence of learning. Whole Language CatalogI lost. The system got the candidate elected whose campaign they ran from the central office. Goals 2000 came about and the move to Delphi the public to consensus succeeded. Our board paid an “expert” probably about $100,000 to rewrite our bylaws. And that is when the Transactional model was adopted. It happened all around the country. TRANSACTIONAL/PROGRESSIVE/WHOLE LANGUAGEEmphasis on learning which is facilitated, but not directly controlled by the teacher. (Guide on the side) Cognitive/social model of learning (e.g. Vygotsky, Halliday).Smaller “parts” of a task are seen as more readily learned within the context of a meaningful whole.Learning is seen as a result of complex cognitive processes that can be facilitated by teachers and enhanced by “peer interaction.Risk-taking and hence “errors,” is seen as absolutely essential for learning.Learners are expected to be at different stages and to develop at their own pace, in their own ways, there is no concept of “failure.” Ability to apply knowledge and to think in novel ways is considered as evidence of learning as is the ability to use general strategies across the wide range of tasks and contexts. ____________________________________________Well, I don’t know about you, but this makes me very nervous about the bridges they will build and the planes they will design and repair. I cannot believe that thinking people could have bought this and responded with such fervor to put this into our schools! So, from SEQUENTIAL learning they went to THEMATIC teaching.
Now, can you understand here how foundational knowledge has been lost? They will take a single topic and INTEGRATE these different subjects based on a single theme. What if they take the dropping of the bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Will they have learned what led up to that or how many lives were actually saved by that action? In taking ancient Egypt, do you think they acknowledge that Jews were slaves there and built pyramids? That slavery existed in Africa then and throughout the history of the world. Even today in parts of the world?
Just so you know --Sex Education is also INTEGRATED across the curriculum. What else might be INTEGRATED across the curriculum? Makes it hard to OPT OUT in any way, doesn’t it?

From the very beginning children are tracked on the basis of socioeconomic and cultural background. This is achieved initially by imposing expectations and criteria for the kinds of literacy experiences and abilities that will “count” as evidence for reading and writing development. The book-reading event is the most highly valued literacy experience prior school. Academically related activities and abilities, such as displaying knowledge about print letters and the alphabet are highly valued. These experiences are primarily associated with middle-class children. Whole Language CatalogPrint letter and the alphabet are HIGHLY VALUED? Associated with MIDDLE CLASS children? Therefore, I guess, Phonics must be withheld for all children to level the playing field? Make reading equitable? The answer to that is to do away with books!“...for a sizable percentage of the population, books are downright discriminatory.” Interesting thought to plant in a child’s brain.
All the research proves that children who are taught to read phonetically (across all socioeconomic groups) are better readers (with astronomically fewer dyslexics, by the way?). In addition, those children also score better in Math because their first introduction to school is abstract thinking. So now, we withhold direct instruction in Math! Can you understand how anyone would think the methods below actually teach children to be proficient readers? These children would need someone to follow them around all the time to tell them what the word is with this “method”. No wonder they get frustrated. Do you see sounding out a word or breaking it into syllables as attack skills? But then, their favored reading specialist is Dr. Ken Goodman who wrote Reading a Psycholinguistic Guessing Game (1968). Guessing seems to be their favorite method for Reading and Estimation for Math! Is it any wonder parents must have their children remediated because of their lack of comprehension? They cannot get enough words that make sense out of a sentence by the time they get to the end of it with these attack skills to comprehend the meaning! I saw that happen over and over in my classroom!

Quite a contrast to Webster’s Blue Back Speller with which generations of immigrants and the natural born citizens of this country learned to read. You can see the difference here. Teachers taught directly the sounds of the alphabet. They did not instruct them to look at the picture (no pictures), say the beginning sound, think of a word that begins with the same letter, does that word fit? Skip over the word and go on. Go back to the beginning and start over. Then just ask for help. Of course, they don’t read those words of instruction. They have pictographs to remind them. They are going all around the country to keep from having to give the children the phonetic keys to our language.

Breaking words into syllables. No Guessing here.

And then look at the morally uplifting material the child read.

And here is Estimation. Are absolutes obsolete?

The Delphi Technique was used in many places to bring groups to thinking they had developed consensus on these issues.

Is the Delphi Technique unethical? Remember reading above about Agenda 21 and effective public participation in decision making? That is where you will see the Delphi technique at play once more. “...It has evidently become popular within politics to give the impression that public input is actually having an impact on decisions when in reality, the decision has been made already, and the group is being guided, unknowingly, toward that end...”

And then we come to Co-operative/Group Learning and Peer Tutoring. After all of the above you probably understand that the purpose of this is to undermine individual rights and re-enforce group rights -- Capitalism versus the rights of the Collective. We are breeding little Socialists. These folks are very much aware that you model behavior to mold attitudes and beliefs. ...A National Middle School Association conference promoted cooperative learning as an “essential” classroom practice because it directs competition away from individual performance and toward a group identity.
And there you have it. With Common Core we have the Standards, Curriculum and Assessments all bound together and cemented in concrete to indoctrinate and collect data cradle to grave on our children and through them each of us. And like sheep we accept it? Why is this not like the Hunger Games with Panem demanding our sacrifice -- though they number in the millions. “...all parents as having given hostages to our cause.” They are our children!

Middle School Agenda for Sexual Orientation as a part of Multicultural Education

Middle School Agenda for Sexual Orientation as a part of Multicultural Education

I will let you read the sessions for this 1994 Convention for the National Middle School Association to determine for yourself if there is a national agenda for a certain political and world view. Are these teachers prepared to handle psychotherapy in their classrooms? Are they truly prepared to address the impact these topics and presentation on the individual child? Are parents aware of what is now considered a part of public education?
As I have written, secular humanism is now the established religion of our schools. Values clarification teaches that behavior should be the result of free, uninfluenced, autonomous choice, based on personal analysis of a given situation coupled with the moment's emotions and desires. And, of course, these children (11 - 15) are well-equipped to handle this information.

I am being sarcastic here, I am sorry. You see, I was a late bloomer. At 15 I was still playing with Barbie dolls with my little sister (6 yrs younger). I was innocent of the words that must be explained even in the simple descriptions of the topics of this seminar. My parents would have been appalled. Just as I am as a grandmother of five. Because you see, I am a Christian. I believe that "as a man thinketh, so is he." (Proverbs 23:7)  It is our responsibility as parents to protect the minds and hearts of our children just as we protect them physically. It is my belief that topics such as this belong with the parents and family. And yet, you cannot opt out as this is integrated into the curriculum.https://sharmanbursonramsey.blogspot.com/2017/08/secular-humanism-is-now-accepted.html

Does behavior modeling attitudes and beliefs apply here? https://sharmanbursonramsey.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-protest-at-busy-intersection-near.html

We saw this sexual orientation agenda included in the Conflict Resolution Curriculum for pre schoolers. https://sharmanbursonramsey.blogspot.com/2017/02/conflict-resolution-or-political-and.html
