Author of the Day: Melissa Oien
Meet Melissa :
I’m a self-proclaimed book nerd, loud and proud! I firmly believe that reading and writing go hand in hand. When I picked up my first book of poetry (It was a children’s book of poems in my elementary school library) I decided that I wanted to write. I would jot down many a poem in my notebook and one day my grandmother looked at me and said “You should be a writer.” She was the first to encourage me and I haven’t stopped writing since.
I love writing whatever comes into my head, whether it’s paranormal, sci-fi, romance, poetry or songs. I’m a daydreamer with a vivid imagination and I love listening to music. Rock, Folk, Pop, Rap, Indie and Classical music all serve as great inspiration. I’m in a zone when I write, no sense of the “real” world or anything else around me. It’s like my hand is overcome by the person who needs to tell their story and they control the pen. It’s an amazing feeling and I don’t know how to live without. I simply can’t. My favorite novel of all time is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I even wrote my wedding vows based around when Cathy is telling Nelly that Heathcliff is “More my-self than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” A romantic at heart, I am influenced by the amazing LaVyrle Spencer and Kathleen Woodiwiss as well as the New Adult authors of today including Colleen Hoover, Abbi Glines, E.L. James, and J.A. Redmerski. My first taste of paranormal was R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books and the Bunnicula series by James Howe. I grew to love C.C. Hunter, Karice Bolton, and Stephen King. Authors are pretty much my version of rock stars and I hope to one day have a gigantic library filled to the brim. Obviously my favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast.Feel free to stop by and say “Hi” !Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Author-MK-Oien/143383079167780?ref=tn_tnmn on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MKOien Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7077781.M_K_Oien
Oien's first completed book is a New Adult Contemporary Romance. Something to Believe In is the first in the Silver Series. It’s about two people that discover strength in weakness and love in the midst of loss. She plans to release it in June 2013
What is it about you ask? ...
Learning how to trust in someone is difficult, giving them your already broken heart is nearly impossible.
Mackaela Stone looks the part of every normal twenty one year old girl, but she hides a lot of secrets. Running from the things that have haunted her for most of her life, a snowball effect of being forced into adulthood, nearly losing her life at the hands of her mother, and being forced to drop out of high school, she is left dejected and isolated.
She lives in a world run by her best friend Mickey Silver. Where drugs are a thriving business, violence is second nature, and watching your back comes with the territory, it has been ingrained in Mackaela to shut down all sense of feeling or ambition and just exist.
Simon Silver is your typical good looking guy with dark hair, emerald eyes and a few tattoos etched across his perfect body. He reaches out to his brother Mickey to get back on his feet after being left homeless and hopeless after a devastating loss and misunderstanding. When he meets the girl who is Mick's best friend he is automatically fascinated, little does he know that she is tougher than meets the eye and not anything like the other girls from his past. He knows there is more to her than the strong exterior she hides behind. Assuming he is a spoiled rotten “pretty boy”, Mackaela refuses to open up to Simon, let alone give him her name.
After yet another tragedy is thrust her way, Mackaela finds an unexpected comfort in Simon who is all too familiar with the pain she faces. Forming an intense bond and undeniable attraction, they discover how much they need each other. When it is difficult to find light in the darkness and you have to fight like hell to chase the ghosts that haunt you, sometimes facing your fears can be the best thing for you. You grow strong, you find yourself, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll find something to believe in.
....And just to tease your brain a little more....
Mackaela spoke in a weak whisper. “When you leave…I mean once you’re gone, will we still be…you know friends?” She drew her bottom lip in between her teeth. I furrowed my brow and sighed. Mackaela thought that I would just leave her. She was concerned that I would just take off and never talk to her again. There was no way I would ever let her get away from me and she needed to know that. Not being able to help myself, I raised my hand to her damp hair and ran my fingers through the ends, meeting her eyes.“Sweetheart I’m not leaving you.” I promised. I cupped her face in both of my hands and pressed my forehead against hers. She let out a small sigh and closed her eyes. “I don’t think you understand just how damn much I care about you Mackaela.” I withdrew and placed a kiss on her cheek and then the corner of her mouth. “I wouldn’t leave you, I couldn’t.” I touched my lips to hers softly. “Simon I wouldn’t ask you to stay. I don’t want to hold you back. You have your dreams and I won’t stand in the way of that. I don’t know what I want yet. You can’t wait around for me to figure my shit out.” I immediately began shaking my head and pulled further away from her. Gripping her chin gently and forcing her gaze to meet mine I said, “You’re my dream Mackaela. I can’t have anything or be anything if I don’t have you. You are a part of me. We have a bond that can’t be broken. You know this.” I watched as her eyes filled with tears and a small sob broke free.So quickly, before she could shed another tear, I tilted my head and smashed my lips against hers. Her mouth parted as she let out a gasp at my suddenness. I took the opportunity to deepen the kiss, conveying everything that I was feeling toward her. My hands lowered to her waist and I drew her closer to my body. I could feel her chest against mine, her hips against me, pressing closer still. I groaned and clutched at her. I let my lips wander across her now flush cheeks to her jaw and up to the hollow below her ear that I knew drove her crazy. “You have my heart.” I whispered. “I can’t leave that behind…ever.”I cradled her head in my hands and forced her to look into my eyes. “Do you understand?” I asked as I tried to catch my breath. Mackaela nodded and a small smile formed on those incredible lips.Copyright M.K. Oien @2013

Renegade Tour pit stop !
I have some goodies for everyone today. Sam, Heven and Riley have decided to stop by and help show off Renegade which is the conclusion to the Heven & Hell series....or is it? This book was absolutely amazing and completely mind blowing ! If you looking for a great weekend read this is it ! The conclusion to the Heven and Hell series. I've been beautiful. I've been ugly. I've died. I've been brought back. I've had abilities awakened within me. My strength has been tested. My beliefs have been tested. Yet I stand. What's next when you've pretty much experienced it all? The end. Sam and I are picking up the pieces. We're trying to come to terms with all we've lost. And as much as I would like to hide my head, ignore the reality I live every day, there is no forgetting. Riley is in hell-I'm still not sure of his agenda. My mother's past haunts me. And Kimber... Kimber is being herself. Cole sneaks glances at Gemma and she returns them when she thinks I don't see. But I do. When Beelzebub escapes he brings his war to places I never thought he would. Earth. Maine. Home. Now everyone and everything is at risk. This has become bigger than my circle of friends. This has become bigger than me. I have to finish this. I have to find a way to stop him, to finish this war. I just pray we will all be left standing in the end.

Ready for some POV'S ? Here you go (may contain spoilers) :
Chapter One
Sam It begins like usual, the slightest disturbance to my sleep, making me toss and turn until I’m in that place between rest and wakefulness—not fully coherent, but enough so I could have groggy thoughts. There is pain, not the kind of pain that would make you squirm, just enough to make you feel uncomfortable. It kind of squirms around in my limbs, like adrenaline, but not as insistent, making my body twitch. My eyes pop open, and I shoot up off the couch, not bothering to grab a T-shirt or the shorts that lay nearby. I won’t need them. I move silently like a cat—like a hound—to the door and slide the lock over and let myself out. It’s cold out. The air doesn’t shock me back into myself. I don’t even shiver. Then I’m racing through the yard, over the grass, and past the barn. I hear the horses in their stalls, alerted at my presence, but I ignore them and keep running. My bones come unhinged and realign. My spine stretches, begins to reshape, and my body hunches. Black, thick fur sprouts, replacing the smooth skin of my human arm and then finally the switch in my brain flips.I am no longer human.I am hellhound. But I’m still me. Only this me can give in to the frustration and sadness that seems to well up inside my human skin until I’m so full and there’s nowhere else for it to go. And so it sloshes there. It soaks in until I feel like I’ll drown. I hate it. That’s when the hound takes over. I can’t really deny it. It’s like a summons, a calling, a command. Usually I can tell it no, or push back, but when you’re full of sloshing emotion there’s nowhere to push it back to.So I give in.I run. I lose all thought. It’s just me, the night, and nothing else. It’s a kind of freedom I’ve never felt before. And then I wake up.
*Heven
Sam stepped around me and held up what he ran to grab. He pressed the button and white foamy spray shot out and covered the trees. The air instantly began to cool as white spray floated around, sticking to the now blackened tree branches and reminding me of snow. When all the burning ceased, he dropped the red can and turned to me. “What does it say about me that my boyfriend hauls a fire extinguisher everywhere we go?” I asked.“That you’re really hot?” he said. I swear there was a hint of a smile on his lips.“Ha-ha.” I sighed and looked back at the mess. “I tried to stop it.”“Don’t be so hard on yourself.” He said, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “Easy for you to say. You don’t light everything on fire when you’re upset.”“No, I just morph into a hellhound and run off into the woods.” A giggle escaped my lips, but then I frowned. It really wasn’t funny. Sam had really great control, but he’d been “disappearing” sometimes lately, and now I knew why. “But at least I don’t have a potty mouth,” he continued.“I do not!” I protested.“I heard what you said a few minutes ago,” he teased.I sighed. He laughed. It was a real laugh and it made me do a double take. I hadn’t heard him laugh like that in weeks. Something inside me lightened a little bit. I reached up and cupped his face. “There’s a sound I haven’t heard for a while.”“I guess your naughty behavior brings it out of me.” He lifted an eyebrow.“Well, then perhaps I should be naughty more often.” I pressed my lips lightly against his, and he hooked his arms around my waist and pulled me closer. The front of my body was completely against his without an inch to spare between us. His lips were warm and pliant and they molded themselves to mine in a way they hadn’t in weeks. God, could that boy kiss. He had a way of stamping out every thought, every whisper, every single thing around us until there was only his lips upon mine. I threaded my fingers through his hair, knotting them in, taking up residence and meaning to stay, when he pulled me away from him and looked at me. He was breathing too hard to speak and his eyes were glittering like the sun. I delved my hands deeper into the tangles of his hair, trying to snatch him back, but he shook me. “Hev,” he rasped and his voice scratched over me, leaving goose bumps in its wake. How was I supposed to think when he sounded like that?“Heven,” he said again when I didn’t respond. “We’re on fire.”Yes. Yes, we were. “I like fire,” I murmured and tried once more to pull him close to me.This time he untangled my hands and grabbed my wrists. “No, literally. We’re on fire.”I followed his gaze down.“Crap!” I yelled and began stomping my feet.My shoes were practically gone and the ankles of Sam’s jeans were glowing as the fire burned up toward his knees. I dropped down and began slapping at the flames on his legs, making gasping sounds when parts of the fabric came off in my hands. Finally, I got the flames out and stood, looking down at the damage. My shoes were half melted and Sam looked like a pirate with his jeans completely burned away to his shins, leaving the ends blackened and frayed.I looked up. “I caught you on fire.”His lips twitched.“I caught my boyfriend on fire.”“I guess it’s a good thing your boyfriend is flame retardant.”I groaned, but then it turned into a laugh.
Riley
Staring up through the dark, I listened as the light footsteps drew closer, keeping up with my little charade of sleep until the very last second. It was pitch black in here, so dark there were no shadows, but I didn’t need to see the movement of a shadow or a dark shape to sense when something was there. At the very last second I sprang up, kicking out my legs and arching my back to jump into a standing position. My hands were ready, reaching for the newest creature that had come planning to defeat me, and I yanked it closer, letting a growl echo through the dark.I felt its surprise; I caught it off guard and I used that to my advantage.Stupid demon. They were all stupid. I gripped its throat with one hand, squeezing until it made sick gurgling sounds. It began kicking and pulling at my hand, but I wasn’t letting go. I leapt from the bed, dragging it with me, and went across the room toward the massive fireplace where I smashed the back of its head against the black granite mantle. The demon went slack in my hands. With a sigh I dropped the body at my feet and reached out for the lighter (actually, a small blow torch) and with a click the kindling in the fireplace roared to life. Flames, hot and orange, shot up and out, illuminating the dark bedroom. I picked up the demon and tossed it into the hungry flames. Ever since I came here they’d been coming, daily, sometimes hourly. They all wanted a piece of the guy who dared take over Beelzebub’s place. They thought they could beat me. They thought I would just surrender this power. I wouldn’t.The stupidest ones—the ones who thought they were clever—came at night. They thought they would get me in my sleep. Like I would fall for that. I had the hearing of a hellhound; it never failed. I could hear them coming a mile away, and when I slept, I did so with weapons. The fire crackled and I watched as the last of the demon was devoured by flames. It occurred to me then that it was strangely quiet in my bedroom. The kind of quiet that meant all hell was about to break loose. Slowly, I pivoted, wishing I’d gotten at least one hour of sleep. But it seemed sleep wasn’t something I would be getting tonight. The room was filled with demons, fifteen at least. They all stood in a semi-circle around me. I was grateful the fireplace was at my back or else I would’ve been surrounded. That would have been a bitch. They stood, staring and grinning maniacal grins, just waiting to pounce. The body in the fire had been a decoy, a way to keep me busy as they silently filed in the room and readied for attack. They thought they had me.They were wrong.

The Park Harris Series :
Cascades of Moonlight (The Parker Harris Series Book #1) “Vampires and Werewolves have been myths turned into movies, books, and plays for hundreds of years. Everyone has heard of them, everyone has their own interpretation of what they are and the ways you can kill them. Some people say that Vampires are creatures of the night that can’t walk in the sun and are killed by wooden stakes, burned by holy water or torn apart by other vampires. Some say vampires can’t go in the sun because their skin sparkles like diamonds. There are stories of vampire slayers and there are werewolf hunters.
As many stories as there are, you would think more people would believe these creatures exist. I mean, how else would there be so much talk about something that never existed? How would there be so many ideas that are so closely related? Maybe some people just don’t want to believe because they are scared of the possibilities it could bring, scared to face the reality that monsters are real. Of all the myths, the part of how to kill a vampire is quite limited. There is no easy way to kill a vampire unless you are a master vampire or a werewolf. Luckily, I am a werewolf.”

Dreams, Spells, and Moonlit Tales (The Parker Harris Series Book #2) “Barely able to open my eyes, I croaked out, "Don't go…please…don’t leave me alone. I'm scared…" His face whipped back to look at me, when he heard my voice, and I saw that his fangs were out. His face was a mask of anguish. He began moving back toward me, but reached up, felt his teeth, and turned back again to leave and was gone in a flash. The blood had made him hungry, he hasn’t fed in a while and he was losing control. He had no other choice but to leave me there, dying. Fear washed over me with the realization that I was going to die here, these injuries are too severe for my wolf powers to heal me, I could feel my body growing weaker by the minute. Gloom was closing over me; pain enveloped my body, and I couldn’t fight closing my eyes anymore. All I wanted was the pain to stop. I invited the darkness to encompass me, with the promise that I would hurt no more.”

The Dark Moon (The Parker Harris Series Book #3)
"When he reached the base of my neck, he whispered, "God, I've missed you. Your smell, your touch…I can't lose you too, Parker." This time, he said my name and it gave me chills because it
had been so long since he said it, so long since he touched me. I'd missed him too. We'd never been this close, this intimate. "I've already lost Jackie. I won't lose you both, no matter what I must do." He was planting kisses along my jaw line and his lips grazed my earlobe and down my neck again. His arm encircled my waist and his hand ran along my back. His lips parted and I felt his fangs graze my skin, my eyes closed and my heart raced.
The racing of my heart is what made him hunger for me, but with him so close I couldn't calm myself. I gasped as his fangs pierced my skin and I felt him taste my blood. He crushed my body against his, I groaned, "Mitchell, please stop." He stopped drinking and his eyes came up to meet mine. His fingers caressed my face. He moved in to kiss me. The door burst open, our lips never met and Mitchell was no longer touching me. Quinn had thrown him against the opposite wall."

Struggle With Love
Book 2 of the With Love series
Due out May 29, 2013
Rena's heart loves one and her blood craves another.
Rena knew that Bristol, a rogue vampire, was still out there waiting for her blood. She knew he wouldn't quit until he had every drop intertwined with his. She also knew she would stop at nothing to bring an end to it all and save her family and the man she loves; even if it means losing herself in the process.
Rena thought facing Bristol was the worst she would come up against- she was wrong. She must face and destroy the demons struggling inside her or else she will be consumed by evil. She has to find herself before she loses everything and everyone she loves. Which side will win in the battle between true love and dark desire?Excerpt:
I am pulled away from my thoughts as his hand gently strokes my cheek. "There is nothing that compares to you. I love you, Rena."
I leaned into his touch and whispered, "I love you too.” With my response his eyes filled with sadness. "What's wrong?" I asked.
"Do you really love me?" Cryder asked, staring deeply into my eyes as if searching for the answer himself.
I laid my hand over his, our interlocked fingers resting on his knee. "Of course I do, Cryder,” I said. “Why are you asking me that?"
He sat staring at our intertwined fingers for a brief moment, before responding. "I feel as though you are torn. That you are struggling with where your heart lies."
I shook my head. "I'm not struggling, Cryder. I promise."
"Then how do you explain him?" Cryder growled, staring at the open area behind me.
Bristol stood behind Cryder and I. He had kidnapped me, taken me to a cabin in the woods and tricked me into drinking his blood. I was able to escape but not before our blood had mixed. There was some strange connection between us and the only way to break it was death. He taunted me now, hovering in my dream, leaning against a tree I never remembered creating. His arms were crossed at his chest, and a smile played on his lips as our eyes met. He was dressed to the nines, in a white button up shirt, and navy blue suit matched with a navy tie. A hint of lust bubbled beneath the surface, and I attempted to shove that as far down as possible. Instead I chose the more dominant emotion running through my veins; hatred. I quickly stood into a crouching position. "Bristol,” I growled through clenched teeth. “What the hell are you doing here?”
"We are connected dear. I needed you," Bristol purred.
My stomach clenched, but not with revulsion it was something else that I couldn't pinpoint. Or was I denying the impossible truth? I shoved that thought aside, it was impossible that I could be feeling anything other that anger towards this monster.
Cryder stood to block me from Bristol's view, as his sharp incisors released themselves from his gums. "Leave. She doesn't want you here."
Bristol lifted his body gracefully from the tree and squared his shoulders at Cryder. "Let the girl speak for herself you behemoth. I guarantee she will change her mind.,” he sneered.

Author of the Day: K.B. Webb
K.B (Katie) has lived in Louisiana her whole life and loved every minute of it. When she's not working on Logan and Molly's story she's chasing after her adorable two year old Mila. Webb plans to release her first book in the Small Town Love Series in September called Reflect Me.
Reflect Me who's main characters are- Logan ,who is a totally swoon worthy guy and Molly who isn't your sweet innocent virgin without an attitude,- will be the first in a three part series that I'm told will have even more swoon worthy country boys follow behind. After reading some of the teasers (which can be found on K.B's page) I have to say I'm pretty excited about shoving my nose in this series ! Reflect Me Description:
Molly Scott’s life has never been easy, but she is o.k. with that. All of her obstacles have made her who she is today-a good mother, with an amazing best friend, who has a love for Marlboro’s and a mouth like a sailor. Her shitty boyfriend Brian James is a far cry from prince charming, but this is the hand she was dealt, so she plans to play it. That is, until Logan Reed walks into her life.
Logan Reed was a troubled teenager who grew up to be a slightly hot headed adult. After graduating high school he left Monroe, Louisiana behind and moved to New Orleans. That is where he met and fell in love with his now ex-fiancé Lizzy. After Lizzy broke his heart and Logan almost killed his liver from one too many drunken nights, his brother Lucas forces him to come back to Monroe to get his life straight. He plans to reconnect with his high school buddy Brian James, have a few beers, reminisce, and head home unaffected. Then he meets Molly Scott.
Logan and Molly try to build a friendship even though both know there is more between them. But sometimes, the best things in life don’t come easy. Molly has abandonment issues due to her flakey parents and is holding a secret from Logan that she fears could cause him to run forever. Logan knows Molly has her walls up, but he is determined to tear them down and make the girl who he can’t live without his own. There is one huge thing in his way though, Molly’s boyfriend and his best friend Brian.
When you find true love, you’re supposed to fight for it, but sometimes you have to ask yourself, is it really worth all the trouble?

Playing Patience by Tabatha Vargo REVIEW
Wow...wow...WOW ! I feel like I waited forever for this book to come out and got teased by the cover repeatively on a daily basis so of course when it hit Amazon I snatched up my copy & after staying up to 6 am avoiding all the house cleaning and letting my 4 yr old have the run of the house today I've finished it and I was NOT disappointed !! We get to meet Zeke and Patience two very different teens living very different lives ...but they have more in common than they know .. Love,lies,pain,betrayal...we learn quickly things are not always what they seem and appearances can be misleading . This book has it all and will throw you for an emotional ride.Vargo knows how to suck you on the first page and not let you go until the last which is why I'll be anxiously waiting to see what she has in store for her readers next !

Renegade by Cambria Hebert ARC Review
Wow.. that was one "hell" of a ride... I'm almost afraid to write this review while my mind is still a mess but I just have to... It's hard to believe this series is already over but they honestly ended in the most satisfying way. I wasn't left thinking "hey what about-". It really was perfect. Now that doesn't mean I didn't get mad,cry and cuss out some parts of this book (all in a good way of course).
Heven's journey continues in Renegade. After suffering much loss she's tired of playing Beezlebub's game and wants him gone once and for all but how do you kill the unkillable and to make it worse he's not the only one wreaking havoc. While Heven seems to grow stronger,Sam can't help but have his doubts. Standing together with all their friends they must overcome their fears and face down hell for the last time but will it all end well ? After all the fighting and loss will Beezlebub still win? ....Well, I can't tell you that but you can get your copy May 3rd to find out ;) As sad as I am to see Sam and Heven come to the end of their beginning I can't go without saying Mrs.Hebert truly has an amazing gift for writing and I can't wait to see what else she has cooking up in her amazing mind.
