Chapter One
Copyright 2013 @ Devon Youngblood

Maura

"Maura are you ready?" Ruby says knocking on my bedroom door. Ruby and I have been roomates for about a year and best friends since the 9th grade. So after college, we decided to just rent a house together.I give myself a once over in the mirror. My blond hair is hanging down my shoulders with some soft curls at the ends. My makeup is done and I have on a pair of skinny jeans with a loose red top that hangs off one shoulder and black knee high boots."Okay I'm coming out" I say hesitantly. I know Ruby is getting antsy.

"Oh you look great Maura. It’s been awhile since we last went out." She puts her arm around my shoulder. She and I have been super busy securing our employment after college and getting our place together. I just recently opened my catering business and have been busy with everyone in town booking their events. She now manages a nail salon not far from my catering office. Finally we have a moment to go out before the summer craziness starts."Single and ready to mingle" I say cheerfully. Ruby has her long copper hair in a ponytail and dark makeup on. She is wearing a shiny silvery top and dark wash jeans along with silver high heels. She is the stark contrast to me. She is easy to get along with and she will talk to just about everyone she meets. Her family is well off and respected in the community and they have been like a family to me since my parents died.We arrive at the club Aurora. The place is hopping and it immediately puts me in party mode. Ruby motions me to follow her as she spots a table of two of her coworkers that she invited to meet up with. Clara is a tiny brunette with green eyes. And Lena is a brown hair brown eyed girl that has curves and height that works to her advantage. "It’s so nice to see you both again" I scream over the crowd. "Likewise" Lena says. Of course Ruby secured us a VIP table. We order a round of drinks. The club just opened up about six months ago and Ruby and I have been dying to come here. The dance floor is the center of attraction the bar is off to the left of the dance floor.Looking over to the bar area I think I see a familiar face. My heart beats rapidly but I can't see his face clearly, I am too far away. "Maura, come on." Ruby says dragging me on the dance floor, now I can't see him. I push the thought out of my head thinking I must be seeing things. The music is fast and has my heart pounding. We start swinging our hips and pumping our arms in the air when a guy named Trevor approaches us. He is quite good looking. He has light blond hair that a little long on the top, light blue eyes and a really nice build and is about 6 foot tall. I am enjoying the music and atmosphere.

The five of us are dancing when suddenly Ruby's face turns ashen. "Ruby what’s wrong? You look like you've just seen a ghost. Hello, earth to Ruby." I say snapping my fingers in her face.

"Okay Maura, don't freak out but I think I just saw Pierson." my stomach suddenly in knots. I ask "the Pierson Hammer?" just to be sure I heard her right.Pierson is the guy I dated in high school for about three and a half years. After high school he joined the marines. He said he didn't want that life for me. I was severely heartbroken that he ended things and left without another word. I finally moved on when I went to college that fall. I always thought Pierson was my one true love and knew I wouldn't find another even close to him.I turn the direction Ruby is looking. "Yep, that is definitely Pierson." I see him from the back. He is easy to spot since he is so tall and broad shouldered, same short haircut but just a little longer on the top and same tattoo on his upper arm. I am at a loss as to what to do. I start to panic.
"Well stop fucking staring. We have to go. Now!" I tell the other’s we have to go. Now I am pulling Ruby through the crowd and to the exit door as fast as I can."Do you think he saw us?" I ask nervously as we enter the car."No I don't think so." Ruby replies"What the hell? Why is he back?" I ask not really wanting an answer. Ruby just throws her hands up and shakes her head."Well we will not speak any more about this now. I need to sleep on it."Shit! Shit! Shit! Pierson fucking Hammer is back in town. He looked the same yet different, more grown. His brown hair looked a little longer. Just long enough to run my hand through it. I need to stop thinking about him. I am clearly buzzed from the drinks and seeing him. I finally get my life together and my head is in a good place. And then Pierson magically reappears fucking everything up for me. This is just great. Instead of going to sleep I think back to the time I was with Pierson. We were in high school. We met at a school dance. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when he asked me to dance to a slow song. I had a huge crush on him but never thought I'd have a chance with him and he told me he had felt the same way. We had a special connection one of those connections that are hard to explain He was kind, romantic, funny and we could talk for hours at a time. Of course my parents didn't approve of the relationship. But instead of driving us away they must have figured it wouldn't last. After a year together we decided we wanted to be each other's first. It happened one night when his mom was out of town and his dad was stationed in Germany. He tried to make it special and had lit candles and soft music playing. It was a little uncomfortable because we didn't know what we were doing, but we were happy about doing it together.

He had always dreamed of being a marine, as most of the men in his family including his father have been in the marines. I just wasn't prepared for him to go away, and he ended things with us. I guess he didn't want to feel like he had to drag me along. Now my head is pounding and my heart hurts thinking about it. I dream about those green eyes piercing into mine. It is intense and I can’t look away from them. Neither one of us will break the trance. He is mesmerizing and I try to blink him away when finally the eyes disappear.

Head on over to Goodreads and add it to your TBR list !

Happy Friday ! Welcome Author of the Day Melissa Collins !

The weekend is finally here again but I have a sweet author to share with you today !

Meet Melissa Collins:

I’ve always been an avid reader.  Majoring in English Literature was a no brainer.  Becoming a teacher and instilling my love for reading into my students was also a no brainer.  I’ve spent the last ten years teaching and I’ve loved (mostly) every minute of it.  When I was home on maternity leave for my third son, I discovered a new genre that sparked my creativity.  My passion for writing sprang from my love of reading and once I knew I had a story to tell, I couldn’t wait to get it out there.  I only hope that my readers enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

LET LOVE IN  What would happen if you lost everything?  If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?  That’s exactly what happened to Madeleine Becker when her parents died when she was ten years old.  Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again.  The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can't get hurt if she doesn't fall in love. That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy's pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world.  Maddy's inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past. Together they find out what happens when they let love in.

Just a little tease...
There was a group playing quarters on the island and another group lining up shots on the breakfast bar – so not my scene.  I just shrugged my shoulders, opened the door, pulled out a bottle of water and, when I turned around to walk back outside, I face-planted into a wall of solid muscle.
“Hand me one?” His voice was smooth and... gruff at the same time.  Red-faced, I turned back around and got him his water, glad for the cool respite that the opened refrigerator door offered.
“Here you go.” I could not peel my eyes away from his mouth as he moved the bottle to his lips.  They were perfect - beautiful and full in a completely masculine way.  I watched, completely fascinated, as his throat moved, downing the water in three or four large gulps. He wiped his mouth with his forearm and I couldn’t help but let my eyes travel up the rest of his arm to his biceps and shoulders – those were the same as his lips – perfect.  Amazingly, gorgeously, utterly, divinely perfect.  Muscled and tanned, his arms were mouthwatering.
My knees wobbled.  My heart thudded.  Thousands of butterflies spread their wings in my belly.

Dreamer: Book one of The Kali Lockton Trilogy

At twenty-four years old, Kali Lockton has lived her life feeling alone.
For a girl who has visions and in turn tries to prevent them from
becoming real, social acceptance can be difficult if not near impossible
to attain. After enduring years of ridicule and small town gossip, she
finds her resiliency behind the thick figurative walls in which she's
encased herself.

Everything changes when, starting a new life away from home, a vision
brings her to the young, handsome detective, Jared Miles. For the first
time in her life, she has someone who believes and is willing to take
risks in order to help her change the inevitable future. Overtime, she
finds herself allowing Jared into the depths of her seemingly
impenetrable walls, so close to her heart.

When her normal visions turn into recurring, elusive, complicated,
inconceivable things that threaten her very existence, she's forced to
turn to him for answers. What she discovers is far more abstruse than
anything she could have ever prepared for. To make things worse, she
finds herself dangerously exposed in a world full of self-serving, evil
beings who would love nothing more than to get their hands on her.
Despite this, nothing terrifies her more than releasing her suppressed
feelings for a man she feels certain would never return her affections, a
man who's not even human.

Author of the Day ADA SLOWE !!!

I'm super excited about featuring Ada today..Not only is she an author but she devotes her time to  promoting many other authors as well as herself. Just from what I've seen you can tell this is a kind and talented writer that wants to see others succeed as well. So here she is...

Ada Slowe :

I’m not like any twenty year old I know, in fact I’m very different than most my age. While most people my age like to party, and go out, I like to stay in with my laptop and write. That’s not to say I don’t know how to have a good time, because even a writer needs a break sometimes. I’ve got amazing friends and such a great support system, and I don’t know where I’d be without it.I grew up in a small town called Newfield, New York. At the age of fourteen, I moved to Florida, which is where I met my inspiration to become a writer. I’ve been writing since I was ten years old but It wasn’t until I met my former English teacher, Shay Kastanis, that I decided I had it in me to pursue it as a career. She’s supported me since the moment I told her I wanted to be a writer and I could never ask for more than that.I discovered my talent and love of writing at a little shy of the age of ten. Young, right? I hear that a lot. In my opinion though, it doesn’t matter the age, it matters of how great the story is. And without writing, I honestly don’t know where I’d be. Writing isn’t just a hobby for me, it’s a passion, and it’s my reason for breathing. People say we’re all put in this world for a reason, and well writing is mine. It’s the one thing in my life that I can always count on to make me happy. I was introduced to writing because of events that were occurring in my life when I was a child, and I found it to be a great outlet. I started with poetry, but eventually progressed to novels and the honest truth is, now I just can’t stop writing books. I get told a lot by a good friend of mine that I’m a writing machine. I have an overactive mine and once I get an idea, I can’t stop. And more than that, I get too many ideas at the same time. While I’m writing though, I become obsessed with my own characters. They consume me, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.The first time I ever let anyone read my original work, was very nerve racking for me, and the truth is, I think that it’s always going to be that way for me. Sometimes I overthink and worry about things that I shouldn’t. I’m the type of person who wears my heart on my sleeve, and so I feel everything that gets thrown my way. Like any other writer, I do doubt myself at times, but overall, I’m pretty confident in myself and in my writing. And when I get told things like I’m a good writer that makes my day. Since starting my author page, I’ve even got people disappointed because my book isn’t published yet and that means more to me than my “fans” will ever know. Still trying to get used to the word fans.My biggest writing inspiration is Nicholas Sparks, I love his books and writing styles. I love how he doesn’t just have one style, he goes from first to third person. He’s a captivating writing and I can only hope to be as great as him someday.I tend to write a bit darker though. I mean I’m all for reading romance, but my romances that I write always tend to have a lot of darkness in them, Maybe it’s just my twisted mind, but I just think it makes for a better story.
I’ve only ever written for myself, I think it’s important for any writer who wants to write to do that. If you start writing for fame, that’s when you lose yourself. It’s when your stories become less than your greatest work. If I ever find myself writing for other people, I think I’d give up writing. And the honest truth is, to me writing is not a competition, it’s something you do because you love it, because without it you wouldn’t know how to function and that’s how it is with me.

Take a sneak peek at The Power of Love:
“I’ve been fighting these feelings for you, Ian for the past few weeks, I don’t want to fight them anymore. I need you, in every way. Don’t think, just make love to me.” Allison spoke, surprising herself, as she brought her lips to his.
Deciding not to take caution any longer, Ian lifted her in his arms, allowing her to wrap her legs around his waist. The overwhelming need to have her surfaced through him as she pulled away to gaze at him, her eyes full of hunger. Ian could tell in the moment, that she wanted him as much as he wanted her.
Traveling up the stairs, with Allison still wrapped around his waist, Ian couldn’t help but to feel a rush of guilt come over him. It wasn’t about Lucas, or the fact that he was betraying a friend. The guilt of how badly he’d hurt Allison years ago and how she so easily forgave him. Was it just that simple? Right now, he just didn’t care.
Kicking the door closed behind him, he set Allison on her feet against it.
“I’ve missed you. This being away from you, longing for your touch all these years.” Ian began, but Allison placed a finger over his mouth, she didn’t want to talk. She needed him, she only wanted to be with him the way she’d longed for all this time.
Ian stared at Allison in glory as she unbuttoned each button on his shirt, then pulled it off. God he was still as firm as he ever was. Although, the thing she noticed most was the tattoo of a cross on the right side of his upper chest.
Not giving her a chance to see it exactly what was written in the cross, Ian turned her around so she was no longer facing her, to unzip her black dress. When it hit the floor, he trailed soft kisses against her shoulder, pulling her bra strap farther down her arm. She closed her eyes in a moment of weakness and before she could turn around, she was again in his arms, as he brought her to the bed. She scooted up then bed, as Ian followed, need in both of their eyes. It had been years since either of them were this close to anyone. Sure they both had someone in their life, but it wasn’t as intense as it was with the two of them. It was passion, fire, unconditional love.
“Come here.” Allison said as she lay in nothing but her bra and panties. Ian knelt on the bed, contemplating on doing the right thing or being with Allison. He was a selfish man, but could he really do this to her knowing how much she cared?
He never had a chance to answer is unspoken thoughts, as Allison made them for him, leaning up, unbuckling his pants until he was wearing nothing but his boxer briefs. He wrapped his arms around her, on hand searching for her bra so he could unclasp it. And when he did, a hope that this night would never end came over him.
“Just stop going so slow, Ian. I want this, I want you. Now get over your fear, stop hesitating, don’t think about the rest of the world, and just make love to me. I want you. Ian Anderson, I never stopped loving you.”
With the final words, Ian rid them both of the rest of their clothes, then obeyed to her wishes. He didn’t care any longer about the worries that ran through his mind. Allison begged him to make love to her, and that was what he was going to do.

It's friday and I have an awesome author for everyone to meet  today !

Welcome Kerry Frith !

About Kerry:

Self-published author of the Cocktails & Tattoos series. I am from London but currently reside in sunny Essex, England. I am a mother, wife, addicted Iphone user, lover of chocolate, enjoys watching movies, loves to read a good chick-lit book, swears too much, doesn't drink enough, passion for writing. I like to make people laugh. I think I am funny. Others may not. I love to read which inspired me to write and I only write what I would like to read. I started writing in my early teens but was always too scared to take it any further. I mean who would want to read something I had made up from my very warped mind? Anyway, it turned out quite a few once I finally took the plunge last year (the grand old age of thirty-three). It was scary at the time but now there is no stopping me. My one true escape in the mad world we live in.

Cocktails & Tattoos is a four book series, which can be found on Amazon and by the summer, will be available on other good ebook websites. I have recently decided to add a fifth book to the series once I have completed writing my current book ~ Handbags at Dawn. I am hoping to have Handbags at Dawn out in the summer.

I am also in my fifth week of writing my blog ~ Kerry’s Chitter Chatter which I am thoroughly enjoying. You can find me on the following link. Please feel free to stop by. You will find something for everyone on my page including daily ebook freebies and Like for Like Saturday Special’s once a month for the author world.

Ezperanza Habla~ Author of the Day !

Hi guys ! It's almost friday ...thank god ! Help me welcome poetry author Esperanza today !

Meet Ezperanza Habla :

"During the day I work in a library. However, my artistic method of expression is my poetry. I began to write in 2010 and created my first blog, "Words of Hope", in 2011. I recently created a new blog of my poetry, "Letters to the Moon". The new blog offers a truly unique poetic experience. Readers can go to the blog and select their language from a list of over 60 languages. Once a language is chosen, the page is translated into the reader's language of choice."

"The Bigger Picture" Excerpt

"My author friend pointed out that I could keep thinking about the end of the friendship, and how hurtful and disrespectful it was. Or, I could look at the bigger picture. I can look back on the friendship as it was over the years. I can look at the good times we shared, the great discussions we had together, the times we made each other laugh, everything that I learned, the time when our friendship was sweet and good.

He also said that I can be thankful. I can be thankful to God for sending that person into my life. I can thank God for our years of friendship and the life lessons that the friendship taught me. I can be thankful that that person was indeed a good friend to me and loved me for who I am, flaws and all.

That is what I plan to do now. I plan to look past the hurt. I plan to be thankful that that person and I had the chance to meet.

Picture yourself at the beach at the ocean. You're sitting on a towel, enjoying the breeze, soaking in the rays of sun. There are many people with you at the beach, and many distractions-people fighting, yelling, people smoking cigars, children screaming, cell phones ringing, loud music blaring, dogs barking-all of which is disrupting your peace. Do you focus on those distractions? Or do you instead choose to focus on the beautiful, infinite ocean just ahead of you?

That's what I choose to look at. The ocean. The bigger picture."

Welcome Author the Day~ Tina Hammond !

Is it Hump day already ?? Guess so ! So here's our AOD for today ! Tina Hammond also known as T.Hammond :
T. Hammond lives in Spokane, WA with her goofy, neurotic, long-coat German shepherd, Dexter; he's noble and brave, until someone turns on the microwave, then she has 100lbs of quivering dog trying to hide behind her chair or bury his head under a pillow (Little known fact: a 100lb German Shepherd CAN fit under a coffee table).

Interests/ Hobby’s: I love to read, I write constantly (manuals, books, letters, etc), do crafty things by hand (sewing, tatting, knitting), I draw nudes and portraits in a style called pointillism (using felt pens to make dots to form a picture), I used to own a fish store, so I am very knowledgeable about freshwater fish and raise some of the more difficult to find in my geographical area.I write the Team Red series. The books are hard to classify by genre, but I suppose you could call them LOL Paranormal Romance. There are two versions of the Team Red series mild (the Red series) and Extra spicy (the Blind series). The Team  Red books follow the story of Teresa, a woman blinded in an accident, that finds she can read her service dog, Red's, thoughts. Red is sarcastic and has great deductive reasoning skills that they find can benefit the local Police Department. The romance angle comes in the form of two sexy guys that decide to compete (we are talking competitive) for her affections. The men are not above hijacking each others' dates and it makes for some great laughs.

To separate the Adult and the less explicit versions, I decided to issue Red Rover (PG13-ish) and Blind Seduction (explicit content) to accommodate the interest of younger readers that wanted to read about the 'talking dog'. The

The “Blind” series is written first with protagonists in their late twenties to late thirties, then ages are modified and subtle changes made to each story to tone down adult themes and language, making them a new story, with obvious mirrored elements of the original. The Red Rover Edition is not meant to be an original work, it is meant to be a modified work of its original Blind counterpart. I WILL NOT WRITE TWO DISTINCTLY SEPARATE STORIES-- the "Red" series will always be a modified version of the "Blind" series. So here's the scoop:

Team Red ‘Blind’ series:
Blind Seduction, Book 1 (originally issued as Red Rover)
Color Blind, Book 2 (coming May 2013)

Team Red ‘Red’ Series:
Red Rover – Special Edition, Book1
Red Zone, Book 2 (coming June 2013

Heart pounding, Teresa woke abruptly. It is still dark. Her mind cleared- it is always dark now. Within a heartbeat, an accident changed Teresa’s life, took her sight, and left her scarred.

Red is a typical German shepherd, well, except for the whole talking-in-Teresa’s-head thing. He’s sassy and opinionated, and pretty handsome, even if he does say so himself.

If a smart-alec dog isn’t enough, Sebastian and his friend David came to town and both have set their sights on Teresa. Neither of the sexy guys are above using military tactics to secure their target- and so begins the Siege.

And, don’t forget to consider the implications of a talking dog… the police department certainly has.

*********************
This SPECIAL EDITION contains some adult situations and mild swearing, but not too much because the dog repeats everything. If it were a movie it would probably be rated as PG-13. Storyline and protagonist ages are changed from original version
