Excerpt
“Easy!” Declan barked. He hadn’t stopped giving orders since he got to the hospital. I knew my mother had slipped away to call him. If I hadn’t been in the worst pain of my life I would have been angry with her. I was too busy trying to comprehend how I could be sitting on my bed at home one minute and pushing a whole person out of me just half an hour later. The nurses kept telling me how good I was doing and that everything was going fine. From my end of the bed that was all total bullshit. My mother either out of spite or some crazed sense of sudden loyalty to my father would not allow them to give me any pain medication. Taking on my father’s domineering persona she wiped my sweat soaked forehead and calmly said over my screams, “Women of God suffer as did Eve.”I wanted desperately to kill her, to reach out with my bare hands and end her completely. My murder plot screamed to a halt when Declan rushed through the door. Frantic and dressed in scrubs he looked faint as he came face to face with the miracle of life. My mother slipped away quietly without a word and Declan slid into her place at my bedside.“Are you ok Cass?” He asked reaching for my hand. The head nurse snickered as I slapped his hand away, yelling through the contraction, “Do I look ok?”Delirious with exhaustion, worn out from the endless pain, I was too tired for even the panic that rose over me when the doctor’s voice went from quick and encouraging to loud and demanding.I knew something was wrong. The room became heavy and hot, the faces around me changed, morphing into masks of worry and sadness.“What’s wrong?” I shouted at the doctor sitting between my knees. He ignored me, instead shouting directions at the nurses who scurried wildly about the room. I tried to sit up further only to be gently pushed back in my place by a nurse.I reached for Declan as the room erupted into a swarm of frantic activity, like a beehive kicked. Nurses jostled and ran back and forth; the doctor wiped his brow and inhaled sharply.“Cassandra I need you to push as hard as you can and don’t stop okay hon?” He nodded before I could answer.I filled my lungs until they ached and pushed with all my might. A scream ripped through me, as my lungs wrung every bit of air from them. A white hot pain tore through me and the room went deathly quiet. For one agonizing second the moment froze, the nurses stood like memorial statues.Without letting go of my hand Declan moved for the foot of the bed. He was met by a tiny cry. The small sound rushed around the room reanimating the staff. My war torn body sank with relief and exhaustion. The last thing I remember seeing before I passed out was a teary eyed Declan, holding the baby and being rushed out of the room. My son is dying I thought, or I am.

WHEN NO ONE WAS LISTENING
17 yr old Sloane has a troubled past. Plagued by the voice of her dead twin sister, whose death Sloane feels responsible for, she is thrust back into the small town where it all happened. Faced with new challenges and tough choice can Sloane handle the pressure when her past and her present collide?
Excerpt Trudging through the freezing night I wondered for the hundredth time just what the hell was wrong with me. One of the few days I didn’t have detention and I show up anyways? Mrs. Valcheck is so use to seeing me it never registered to her I wasn’t supposed to be there. The idea had pounded its way into my head all day.Ma was gone when I’d got up, leaving only the stale smell of beer and smoke and an endless mess. As I hurried around the trailer picking up empty cans and brushing up stray ashes the idea took hold in my brain. I don’t know why I wanted to see her, I just had to, like Ma had to drink, Sloane was becoming an addiction. The night wind cut at me as I walked home. I must be crazy, stay after with no truck to get home, even crazier to let her listen to my music. Ma had never heard my songs, not that I knew of. I recorded a few on my Dad’s old tape player one weekend when she was gone with one of her boyfriends. Something in the way Sloane had looked at me in Svelte’s class really got to me. She wasn’t judging, she wasn’t mad, she was afraid and for once not of me but for me. It’d been years since someone worried about me and it just made me want her more. I spent the rest of the walk home thinking about the smell of her hair and the teary gleam in her eye as my words flowed from the headphones. Again she hadn’t judged, didn’t make fun of me when it was plain I missed a chord or my voice cracked, she just looked sad, for me, and that made me sad for me.“What the hell Barrett?”Ma was lit up like the fourth as I stepped into the trailer.“What?”My eyes cut to the greasy looking man on the couch, he sat unashamed, no shirt, pants undone, grinning at me.“Don’t you what me! Where have you been? Not like you got anything to do or anywheres to go.”She didn’t care where I’d been, this was a game we played all too often. The look I’m a concerned mommy on my own with this disgrace of a son, please Mr. Right Now get me away from here. As much as I hated the men my Ma saw regularly, at least when they were over we could skip the charades.“I was out for a walk Ma settle down.”I stepped to the right headed for my room, I heard the creak of the floor behind me and ducked in time to miss getting pegged in the head by an empty beer can.“Don’t you dare disrespect me! I’m your Ma you remember that! I gave up everything to bring your sorry ass into this world.”“Whatever Ma.” I bit my lip to hold in the laundry list of things she hadn’t given up for me.Men,booze, drugs, the truth. The muddy cowboy boot hit dead in my calf nearly taking my legs out from under me. The new guy shook me by the shoulder breathing hate and beer soaked breath in my face.“Look here punk; don’t let me catch you talking to my girl like that. She aint trash, you show her some respect.”He smiled showing off the gaps between his yellow teeth. I shrugged him off even though my body was quivering. He’d be gone soon like all the rest. I fell asleep with my dresser pushed against the door.

Author of the Day: E.J. Rycer
Happy Hump Day !!
Welcome Author E.J. Rycer :
I live in a small city about forty-five minutes north of Boston, Massachusetts with my husband. He's my college sweetheart and we've been together for 13 years (married 8). I’ve known I wanted to be a writer since I was a little kid. When I was nine years old I saved up all of my birthday money to buy a Smith Corona electric typewriter. My Grandfather gave me a bunch of old typing paper he had and encouraged me to write. I really think his encouragement stayed with me into adulthood and is what has helped push me to follow my dream of becoming an author. My husband, my three sisters, and a ton of other family members and friends have been super supportive of me and help me find my confidence when I have my moments of self-doubt. I’m currently working on my debut novel, The Marked File. It features Boston Homicide Detectives Jess Reilly and Greg Fisk. I’m hoping this will be the first in a series of books centered on their case files. I am also working on a short story called The Genesis File, which is focused on events in Jess’ life as a high school senior that made her realize she wanted to be a homicide detective. I am hoping to have both the novel and the short story published by the end of the year.

Meet Author of the Day~Taya Hardenbrook
T.A. Hardenbrook is a housewife by trade and a novelist by passion! She is currently working on her first novel titled “Life Altering Beautiful” and is set to be self-published summer 2013. A self-titled romance junkie, she enjoys spending her days chasing her two boys and sneaking in writing time when made available.
I am self-titled romance junkie to the fullest, my 1 click button on my kindle is used daily and I might be coming down with arthritis in my fingers from it. I love nothing more than to cuddle on the couch with my kindle and let the story take me away, or with my laptop and share the stories in my mind take shape. My favorite writing partner is my pit-bull Gaia, and we love to meet people and help break the stereotyping of this amazing breed!I feel blessed daily for the life I’ve been given. Being able to chase my dream of completing a novel was almost unattainable this past year when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I unfortunately lost the use of my hands for several months and was unable to use a computer, much less sign my name. Through the help of some great medication and therapy I was able to gain most of my hand use back and I refuse to let his stop me from writing that illusive novel I dreamed for years about. I hope to share this novel with the world, and I can only wish it entertains people cause it was so much fun to write!
Fans can follow me @:Facebook : http://www.facebook.com/TaHardenbrookBlogspot: http://tahardenbrook.blogspot.com/
**Blog currently contains the full chapter 1 of “Life Altering Beautiful” and the finished cover will be revealed once my Facebook fan page reaches 100 Likes!
Coming Summer 2013 By Taya:

Curious yet ? I sure hope so because here is a little introduction to what Readers can look forward to !
Life Altering BeautifulT.A. Hardenbrook
What do you do after a tragedy happens; you run away of course. Putting the past far behind you seems easier said than done, take it from me I know. I thought I could manage it, you know keeping the secret deep down inside. But somehow it always finds a way to the surface, and it’s never an easy thing to deal with the repercussions of its terror. How do you tell someone the truth, knowing that the words spoken will likely result in losing them too? After giving up everything when does the heartbreak end? Can I make a life worth living without all the sadness? Do I really deserving a happy ending? Seven ran away to try and start a new life, the last thing she expected was to find a connection with a man again. Let alone a man on campus who had made his no commitment status very well known. Can her desire to change combined with the deep burn for a man be enough to love her life again? Trust doesn’t come easy, especially from a man who appears to keep secrets himself. When you see someone so fragile its human nature to want to help; nurture, care, hold, make everything better, to bring that smile out again. But how do you help someone who is resistant against change? What does it take to tear down the walls ones built after serious trauma? Can helping one person change your life for the better? Does it make me want to transform myself? Stone has no interest in commitment. Why promise things that you know cannot happen, that will only lead to heartbreak and that shit hurts. But then in the middle of his crazy world he meets this girl, and somehow the universe aligns leaving him wanting more. How can he make her see that it’s okay to trust again; how does he combine his two lives and make both of them worthy enough to be with her? Can she take the good knowing the bad is never far behind? If love is all that someone needs, then why are there so many broken souls in this world? If it only takes one person to make a difference, then why doesn’t everyone pitch in? Can one individual really make a change for the better; make peace within themselves and others? When two souls collide can they save each other?

Author of the Day: Jennifer Sivec
Start of another week full of Author of the Day's !
Welcome Jennifer Sivec !
Jennifer Sivec is grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and is currently resides in Oberlin, Ohio with her beautiful family. She and her husband have two wonderful young sons, who keep them busy and give purpose to their lives. Her husband has been her biggest supporter in self-publishing “Leaving Eva” which is Jennifer’s first novel.
As a child, she was a voracious reader, preferring to read above anything else. The first story she remembers writing was in the 4th grade which she co-wrote with a friend. It was a memorable experience for both of them, as they strung together every profane word that they had ever heard, into a story with no real story line or direction. Needless to say, when the teacher found the story and told their parents, neither of them wrote anything for a very long time! But she did pick up her pen soon after writing poetry, short story, and journaling throughout her life.

Jennifer has always loved a good story, whether told in cinema, music, or books. Getting lost in the story has helped Jennifer throughout her entire life. Abandoned as a child, she was driven to tell the story of abandonment through “Leaving Eva.” Though not autobiographical, Eva evolved into her own character with demons to fight and choices to make about keeping or losing love. Jennifer prefers to write drama and is working on “Finding Eva,” which is the sequel. She has several other projects she plans to tackle after that.

Leaving Eva

Abandoned as a child, Brynn is adopted into a violent and tumultuous world under the deceptive guise of a Mother's love. She accidentally discovers a secret way to survive which helps to disguise the brokeness within. Early and often Brynn is left to fend for herself, as those who are supposed to love and protect her most, fail. In High School, Brynn unexpectedly falls for sweet, handsome Adam. He tries to teach her that she can have hope and happiness, if she only will embrace it. As an adult, it appears as though Brynn has her life together. No one except for Adam really knows her secret pain and history has an unkind way of repeating itself. Suddenly she is faced with destroying her greatest love, and the need to confront her own fear before it swallows her completely. In the end, Brynn discovers a truth about herself that changes everything, and gives her the freedom to accept the beautiful possibilities of what life can be.

Leaving Eva
If you've ever been abandoned. If you've ever been abused, hurt or left behind. If you've ever been deeply loved, then Leaving Eva is just for you. In the end, Brynn discovers a truth about herself that changes everything, and gives her the freedom to accept the beautiful possibilities of what life can be.Leaving Eva can be purchased here:

Welcome Author of the Day: K.D. Montgomery
Meet Author K.D. Montgomery:
K.D. Montgomery spent her younger years living in daydreams. She created adventure where there was none and traveled to new worlds daily (but was always forced to come back in time for dinner). She began to chronicle her epic journeys with monsters under kitchen tables and goblins stuck in bathtubs, and soon realized that as much as she loved to imagine, she equally loved to write. As the years passed, she was instructed to grow under the cliché that she should always keep her feet planted on the ground, so she did, and firmly locked her stories away until at last forgetting that that part of her ever existed. When she became a mother, the fire of her imagination and her love of storytelling was rekindled as she began to explore the world with her children and remembered how to see the exceptional in the ordinary. She at last realized that keeping your feet on the ground was silly when there were so many more amazing places to be, so she began to write again.
Today, K.D. spends her days fighting ghosts out from closets and setting traps for tooth fairies with her five children, then spends her nights traveling far past the stars to other worlds, constantly in search of the new adventures that await her.

The Demented Adventures of Princess Pertties:Officially released by Bayou Brew Publishing May 11,2013
Pertties is socially awkward and extremely frustrated after having spent years trying to piece together the fragments that she has left of her childhood memories. Struggling to figure out who she really is, she spends most of her time hiding behind her poor attitude and sarcastic remarks. Unfortunately, her wit and chastising comments are not enough to keep her from reliving the terror of her forgotten past when she falls into a horrifying new world.
Demented has all the memories that he could ever need, but he too is a social reject and is tired of his place on the bottom rung of the ladder. Having spent his life working as a slave in a terrestrial world doing everyone’s bidding, he’s ready for a change. Prepared to risk all that he knows, he joins Pertties on her reluctant quest to find the Southern Light, even though it goes against his own people – a civilization of burly underground trolls.
Their adventures lead them to discover that there is more going on than what they had originally believed and that they alone are the last hope that the southern territory has against the evil that threatens the land. Knowing that they only have each other, the two team up to escape from the prisons that they have created within themselves (as well as the others that they constantly seem to land in) and in the process find themselves on a journey fraught with danger, demons, and death.

The southern summer was back with a vengeance.
Helping out a friend was what Katy had in mind when she agreed to give Roxie a hand on the farm. She expected it to be an easy job wrapped in the possibility of a break from her mother’s constant vodka stupor. What she didn’t expect was to find him.Brian spent his life in his brother’s shadow, constantly falling short of others’ expectations. When he gets the chance to prove himself, he's forced to decide if there’s more to him than just the mistakes he’s made. The summer was supposed to be easy. It was supposed to be fun. But sometimes, when you least expect it...you fall.

Author of the Day: Sonya Ray
Introducing Author Sonya Ray:
I grew up in Southeast Missouri; home of the Throwed Rolls, high cotton, and the Cards! I have two great kids. Shae is 20 and very artistic. Jordan is 15 and is a freshman in high school and serious gamer.
Besides reading and writing, I enjoy singing. I love music period! Music is in our family. Whether it be the bluegrass from the Ozarks that my Grandpa Sutton use to play on his banjo or fiddle, or the smooth, family harmony in which I am fortunate enough to sing with my Dad and Brother. But you can give me some kickin' AC/DC too! I like it all!
I enjoy gardening and love being outside. I like to fish, as long as the fish are biting more than the mosquitoes! I love me a good football game (go Packers!) and hearing the crack of a bat (go Cardinals!)
I work full-time as an accounting clerk at Confluent Technology Group. Every free moment is dedicated to my family and my current project, Sweet Tea, Volume I of The Three Crowns series, a seven-novel paranormal romance series.
Sweet Tea’s origins began with a simple request from my daughter. I had always written, whether it be poems, short stories, plays, songs; but life became busy and I stopped. One December, my daughter, son, and I were sitting at the kitchen table and out of the blue she suggested I should start writing again. She went on and requested for me to write a story about a girl on a ranch who loves horses and has fun with all of her friends. I told her I would think about it and within a week, I was writing Sweet Tea. I never dreamed this request would turn into seven novels--and paranormal at that! I jumped on Twitter, my Editor, J. Cameron McClain thankfully found me and encouraged me to self-publish, and here we are!
Sweet Tea is scheduled to come out sometime this summer. A cover reveal will be coming soon!
Q & A with Sonya:
Q: WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE AN AUTHOR?
I have always written words in some form or another; whether it be in short stories, plays, poems, but I just did it for me. It wasn’t until recently that I even considered the possibility of publishing my work. My Editor, J. Cameron McClain, friended me on Twitter and right away encouraged me to put my work out there.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR MAGICAL MOMENT OR INSPIRATION FOR YOUR FIRST PLOT?
Life became a little hectic and I stopped writing for a time. But it was my daughter whosuggested I start writing again. She asked me to write a story about a girl on a ranchwho loves horses and hangs out with all of her friends. I believe the title, Sweet Tea, came to me first because Sweet Tea is part of our life in Missouri and I knew I wanted the book to be based on a young girl from this area. But my imagination got the best of me and the simple girl from Missouri got a twist and her Sweet Tea became very unique. Not only that, but her story took seven novels to tell!
Q: CAN YOU GIVE US A LITTLE SNEAK DESCRIPTION OF WHAT WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO?
Absolutely! Sweet Tea is the first book in The Three Crowns series. ElizabethLancaster is your typical high school senior surrounded by great friends and hopes for the future. But there are dark secrets that loom in her world waiting in the shadows to bebrought to life. Unexplainable occurrences weave into Lizzie’s life, as well in her dreams.
But Lizzie is not the type to entertain paranormal beliefs. When a mysteriousstranger enters her life and fate steps out of the shadows, change is inevitable. And,although not a believer of the paranormal world, she subconsciously starts comparingher everyday life to the story of The Three Crowns.
And so begins the long journey of Lizzie Lancaster discovering and accepting who shereally is and who she is to become.
Q: IF YOU HAD TO PICK A FAVORITE CHARACTER FROM A BOOK, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Hmmm. Well, my all time favorite book is Pride and Prejudice (can you believe it - noteven paranormal!) I love the character Elizabeth Bennet. She was always herself. Shespoke her mind freely, even when it wasn’t considered socially acceptable for a womanto express herself in such way in 19th Century England. But I also loved that she knewexactly who she was and when love formed in her heart from an unlikely source, she believed in herself enough to allow a new part of her to come to life.
Q: FUTURE PROJECTS:
Sure! The Three Crowns series has seven books total, with Sweet Tea being volumeone. The other six books are written and I know how this story ends ;). But they all have to go through my rockin’ Editor. So once Sweet Tea is published, we go immediately to volume two. After The Three Crowns series is complete, I have another series that ispatiently waiting for me to finish. Plus a Chic-Lit that is halfway written, I just need more time to write! Not to mention all the other stories floating around in my head. But we will get there!
Looks like we have ALOT to look forward to from this fresh new author !

Welcome Author Patty Maximini !
About Patty:
Words have always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved to read them, write them and learn them in other languages. Last year, I’ve decided to take that passion and turn it into a book, the result was Exception, my very first novel due this October.Whenever I’m not sitting behind my computer, I’m either enjoying the company of my dear hubby, Alex, and our four four-legged babies or reading. I’m a firm believer in long hand written letters, love of any kind and good stories.

Description:
With her life packed in boxes in the back of a U-Haul truck and a promise to her sister, Charlotte, that she’d find a way to let go and be happy, Emily crossed the country to escape the haunting memories of her past.

However, some wounds are too great to overcome, and between her recurring nightmares and her fear of even the slightest physical contact, she wonders if she will ever heal completely.
In walks Taylor, a handsome out of towner, with his own past to overcome. Against all odds, an undeniable special friendship forms almost instantly between the two. Not minding his company or touch, Emily is jolted into realization that he is her healing, her strength, her protection and her escape from her daunting past.He is her exception.
...A little Teaser !
*****
After countless hours of driving a U-Haul truck and holding back her emotions, the combination of weak coffee, a greasy grilled cheese sandwich and boxed cheesecake, was like a meal of the gods to Emily. Wanting to get away from the eyes of too many truckers, she cleaned her plate in record time and asked for the bill. Fishing for her wallet in her overstuffed purse, she found a red envelope with her name written in black ink in a hand script that was as familiar to her as her own. Tears tickled her eyes as she opened it and removed the handwritten letter stored inside.
Dear Emmy,
As I’m writing this letter to you, you’re in your bedroom packing up your things to move across the country and farther away from me than we’ve ever been in the past 26 years. I would be lying if I said I’m not sad by your leaving, I am… I’m so sad Sissy. But, I know that it’s the best for you.
Watching you suffer for the past year has been hell, you didn’t deserve going through all of that. Growing up, I’ve always tried my best to shield you from all the shit we went through and even though it didn’t always work, I know I’ve tried. But this time, I didn’t see it coming and therefore I did nothing. Even with you saying that it wasn’t my fault, I’ll never be able to forgive myself for that. I’m the big sister and should have kept you from harm.
I’m so sorry that you’re hurting and I do hope that Connecticut brings you the peace and the fresh start that California brought me. I hope that in your new city, where you have no bad memories and no sadness involved, you find happiness and love. But for that I must ask you, my beloved Sissy, that you work on your fears and allow the right people to be a part of your life.
As hard it must be for you to believe it, there are good people in this world, people that will add to your life and not take from you, people that will laugh and cry with you instead of laugh at you and make you cry for them, some of them will even share your pain and will never hurt you intentionally. And one day you may even find people that will complete you and make your shitty past worthwhile, like Chuck did to me.
Please believe that and open up!
I’m not telling you to be careless and allow just anyone in, after all that would be extremely stupid giving our track record. But I believe - even if you don’t - that you will find your way through this life if you listen to your gut. So go with it.
You’ve already made your peace with becoming a hermit, so you’ve got nothing to lose by making things difficult for those who try to be around you. Stand your ground, keep your wits, principles and values, show people that your standards are as high as your heels and you won’t take crap, even if it means you’ll be alone.
Now to those that want to be around you even after all that, LET THEM!! You are so amazing and you deserve so much love – note that I’m not saying romance, I’m saying love. Make friends, love them and allow them to know you and love you like I do.
I love you so much and miss you already.
With all my love…
Charlotte.

Charlotte.
