Cooking for your cat: how to make a balanced homemade diet
The subject of raw vs. cooked cat food is an often hotly debated topic, and recent position statements against raw feeding by several high profile organizations such as the American Veterinary Medical Assocation and the ASPCA have only added fuel to the fire. The amount of misinformation about the so-called dangers of raw feeding is staggering and defies common sense.
Idon’t think it’s necessary to take an “all or nothing” stand when it comes to feline nutrition. Raw feeding is not for everyon...

Conscious Cat Sunday: fuzzy resolutions
Guest post by Angie Bailey
I’m not really one for New Year’s resolutions. I guess I believe in intentions that can change in any moment. I don’t need to wait until New Year’s Eve to decide what’s important to me and set goals for myself. But since many people use the new year as a kickoff point, I thought I’d once again look to my wise felines for cues as to what I’d like to intend for myself in the new year.
Be present with one thing at a time
I know I’m a good multi-tasker, but that doesn’t me...

Mews and Nips: a loyal Italian cat, a miracle reunion, and more
Our first story is one of the most touching ones I’ve heard in a long time. The Huffington Post reports that Toldo, a 3-year-old black and white cat living in Montagnana, northern Italy, has been visiting his human, Iozzelli Renzo, who died on September 22, 2011, aged 71, every day for the past year, and leaving small presents at the grave. The gifts usually consist of leaves, sticks, twigs, plastic cups or paper towels. Read the full story about this loyal cat on The Huffington Post.

Giveaway: Enter to win Instinct Limited Ingredient Canned Diets for your cat and your favorite shelter
The concept of limited ingredient diets has been around for quite some time. These diets are designed for cats with sensitive stomachs, food allergies or intolerances. By limiting the number of proteins, chances of a cat reacting to the ingredients in a diet are reduced.
A limited ingredient diet is not the same as a diet used for a complete food elimination trial. To truly diagnose food intolerance, cat guardians must feed a novel protein, meaning, a protein that the cat has never eaten befor...

Meet the cat with the world’s loudest purr
A 12-year-old cat in England holds the Guinness World Record for the “Loudest Purring Cat.” Smokey, a silver tabby with striking markings, was adopted by Ruth Adams about three years ago, when Adams was looking for an older cat who would be content with staying mostly indoors. Smokey greeted Adams as soon as she stepped into her cage at the shelter, walking toward her with her tail held high, rubbing against her legs, and purring. Very loudly.
Smokey, and her shy black companion Sooty, quickly...

Bissell Lift Off Deluxe Pet Deep Cleaner Review
My entire house is carpeted (with the exception of the kitchen and bathrooms.) The carpet in my living room, hallway, and upstairs bedrooms is off white. And it’s the original carpet, so it’s about 35 years old. Ithas been through as many years of homeowners with cats. Between theoriginal owners and me,my carpets have dealt with a total of seven cats so far. Nobody who walks into my house believes me that the carpet is that old.
I vacuum weekly, and for the first 20+ years that I’ve lived in t...

Are dehydrated and freeze-dried foods a healthy option for your cat?
Guest post by Jodi Ziskin
Raw food may seem like a new trend for cats (and dogs), but don’t tell them that; it is what they and their ancestors have eaten for hundreds of thousands of years.
In today’s world of highly processed kibble and canned foods being recalled for a variety of reasons, many cat lovers are discovering the myriad of benefits associated with feeding a raw diet. These include easier and better digestion and assimilation of nutrients, reversal of allergies, disease prevention,...
