Why do cats drool?
I recently received a question from a reader about why her cat drools when he purrs. She had lived with cats all her life, but had never had a “happy drooler.”
Some cats will, indeed, drool when they’re exceedingly happy and purring up a storm. I’ve lived with a couple of these happy droolers myself. Feebee mostly did it when he was a kitten, but stopped once he got older. Amber drooled throughout her life when she was completely relaxed and purring. Ruby will occasionally drool.
But far more co...

The importance of dental health for your cat
Dental disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem for cats. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, an astounding 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age 3.

Oral disease begins with a build up of plaque and tartar in your cat’s mouth. Without proper preventive and therapeutic care, plaque and tartar buildup leads to periodonta...

Mews and Nips
I always enjoy stories about working cats. Earlier this week, Catsparella reported on a cat who’s a 14-year-veteran at theVictoria Police Department in Canada. The white mitted grey cat was brought to the communications center (hence her name) as a kitten, and has been manning emergency phone lines ever since. When asked what would happen if a prospective employee was allergic to cats or otherwise not thrilled to be sharing an office with a cat, a police department spokes person said ““If you...

Review: Soul Comfort for Cat Lovers by Liz Eastwood
Even if our cats live into their late teens and sometimes early twenties, it’s just not long enough. The price we pay for sharing our lives with these wonderful companions is that all of us who considers our cats family members or best friends will sooner or later experience the pain of loss, and it can be as devastating as the loss of any loved one.
There are any number of books on pet loss on the market, but until now, there wasn’t a book that addresses the issue of pet loss specifically fro...
