Conscious Cat Sunday: Do You Have a Vision of Where You’re Going?

vision-reflection

Do you have a vision of where you want to be a year from now? January is a good time to think about your dreams and goals for the year, but there’s a difference between planning and having a vision of where you’d like to be. Planning usually involves concrete steps on how to get to a defined goal. A vision statement answers the question “what would it look like if I achieved all of my goals?”

I recently had an opportunity to have a vision statement created for me by Dr. Heike Jung, the owner...

Mews and Nips: Cat Who Went Viral for Looking Like Adam Driver Got Adopted

cat-adam-driver

It all began with a tweet by Marci Robin, who noticed that Corey, a cat up for adoption through the Monmouth County Humane Society in New Jersey, bore an eerie resemblance to Star Wars:The Force Awakens star Adam Driver. The internet went crazy, and Corey caught the eye of Emily Combs, who adopted the cat she appropriately renamed Kylo Ren. McCombs shared the story of how she came to adopt Kylo on Elite Daily. I have to be honest, though – I’m not sure I really see the resemblance…

If you mi...

Review: Show and Tell by Amy Shojai

show-and-tell

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Show and Tell, the third book in Amy Shojai’s thriller series featuring animal behaviorist September Day, her dog Shadow and cat Macy. I knew from reading the first two books in the series to set aside some uninterrupted time, because I found them impossible to put down once I started.

From the publisher:

With her stalker finally caught, animal behaviorist September Day’s PTSD has abated and she’s begun to trust again. She dares to hope Detective Jeff Combs...

valerian-cat-toys

This giveaway is sponsored by Bavarian Cat Toys

On Tuesday, we reviewed an assortment of Bavarian Cat Toys. These toys are filled with valerian, as well as other Bavarian-grown ingredients including lavender, anise, organic spelt, and (in some cases) catnip. The ingredients are lab-certified to be of pharmaceutical grade, which is the highest grade possible. The toys do not contain any fillers such as poly fibers or plastic. Bavarian Cat Toys uses spelt to cushion the toys. The spelt also se...

The Mystery of Why Cats Love Bathrooms

cats-bathrooms

Cats seem to have an endless fascination with bathrooms. Whether it’s sinks, bathtubs or shower stalls, I have yet to meet a cat who isn’t intrigued by at least one of those. And when was the last time you’ve been able to go to the bathroom without a feline escort?

Some theories about cats’ fascination with bathrooms

I have some theories about why cats love bathrooms so much. I think some of it is due to the fact that cats love routine, and most of our bathroom routines tend to stay the same...

Review: Bavarian Cat Toys

Bavarian-cat-toys

The image above caught my eye on Twitter not long ago. It instantly transported me back to childhood vacations in the Bavarian and Austrian Alps. I had to investigate further! I was intrigued to discover that Bavarian Cat Toys contain valerian root, which, according to their website, has a smell cats can’t resist.

Valerian is said to evoke a euphoric, playful feeling similar to catnip. The toys also contain other Bavarian-grown ingredients including lavender, anise, organic spelt, and (in so...

Vaccines for Cats: What You Need to Know

veterinarian-and-cat

There is no question that vaccines protect against disease, but they also present considerable risk. Far too many cats are still being over-vaccinated because too cat guardians, still think annual “shots” are necessary, and sadly, far too many veterinarians still recommend them. This is a complex issue, and it’s up to cat guardians to educate themselves so they can make the best decision for their feline family members.

Which vaccines should your cat get?

The American Association of Feline...

Conscious Cat Sunday: 3 Simple Ways to Get Into (and Stay in) The Flow

getting-in-the-flow

The “flow” is a much batted about term in self-improvement circles. It is also sometimes referred to as the “zone.” When you’re in the flow, you’re completely absorbed in an activity. Your perception is heightened, you’re feeling a sense of joy, and you’re probably losing all track of time. You feel in tune with who you really are. You’re at peace.

What you experience when you’re in the flow is complete mindfulness. Once you come out of this flow state, you’re back in “normal” life, and your...

Mews and Nips: City of Boston’s Website Goes (Temporarily) to the Cats

boston-cats

Boston officials asked residents via the city’s Twitter account what they would like to see added to the city’s upgraded website for constituent services. When one man responded with “great redesign, but it needs more cats,” city officials posted the mock up of a new home page on Twitter. It remains to be seen whether the final version of the site will feature felines. Read the full story on The Boston Globe.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a...
