Sen. Landrieu's misguided political calculation

Screen Shot 2013-04-05 At 4.20.33 PmIt's certain that her 2014 reelection plays into this answer:

[Sen. Mary] Landrieu told CNN National Political Correspondent Jim Acosta in an interview Friday that she personally believes "people should love who they love and marry who they want to marry," but that her obligation rests with the people of Louisiana who elected her.

"My state has a very strong constitutional amendment not only against gay marriage but against gay partnerships. So I'm looking at the people of Louisiana trying to r...

Video: Mike McManus says 'perverted' gays were largely molested, want to destroy marriage

Mike McManus was one of the three media personalities (Armstrong Williams and Maggie Gallagher being the other two) who the Bush Administration paid to endorse marriage policy. Now listen in as this same Mike McManus says that gays have a perversion, that we don't really want to marry but simply want to destroy the institution, and are largely gay because of molestation. Oh, and he teases a new study which sounds like it might be the far-right's next attempt at turning junk science into truth...

Snowe thaws: (Former) Senator joins (current) trend

Screen Shot 2013-04-05 At 2.15.08 PmOlympia Snowe, who served for eighteen years as a Republican U.S. Senator from Maine, is now coming out for marriage equality:

Now out of Senate, Snowe supports same-sex marriage [CNN]

Snowe joins her successor, Independent Angus King, on history's right side. Unfortunately Snowe's longtime senatorial colleague, moderate Maine Republican Susan Collins, has yet to come around.

it remains to be seen if Collins waits for her own retirement party before stating the support that I (and many others) a...

Red State's Erickson: 'Little moral difference' between incestuous and gay couples

Screen Shot 2013-04-05 At 11.14.31 AmWith the writing so clearly on the wall, expect to see even mainstream voices like Erick Erickson say this kind of stuff with increasing frequency:

"If life comes down to who you love and who loves you back, if a father and son love each other so much they want to get married, there is little moral difference between two people of the same sex getting married who are not related and want to be and two people of the same sex who already are related becoming closer." [RedState]

If this is really...

Pagebreak-280

**Where we now stand: Four Democrats [Mark Pryor (AR), Tim Johnson (SD), Joe Manchin (WV), Mary Landrieu (LA)] and forty-three Republicans (all but Portman and Kirk) have yet to sign on to equality. Both independents (King and Sanders) are on board.

Grand tally: We have fifty-three for equality and forty-seven who are either against or have yet to weigh in. AMAZING!

LaBarbera protects America from gay people's locked lips

Is it just me, or do the white boxes make the covers look ten times more provocative (and thus hotter)?

[Peter LaBarbera's Americans For Truth]

I wonder if Peter travels with some to-go boxes in his pocket. Like he's at the grocery, checking out with some milk and a tube of Ben Gay (which he buys in hopes that it's an "ex-gay" ointment), when he spies these Time covers threatening to destroy the sanctity of the impulse aisle. Quickly but steadily, Pete yanks his white boxes out of his pocket an...

ADF's five supposed 'victims' of marriage equality? All from states that didn't have marriage equality at time of incident!

Yesterday, I showed you that ridiculously fearful (and patriarchal) graphic that the anti-LGBT Alliance Defending Freedom is using to suggest fathers across America must protect their families from the "evils" of same-sex marriage (seen at left). Today, let's look at the equally misrepresentative text that accompanies the scare-pic.

To make the flawed case that marriage equality will threaten religious freedom, ADF cites five examples. They are:

Elaine Huguenin, a New Mexico photographer, recei...

NOM desperate to find a meme people will actually like

The pro-discrimination group's latest stab at virality:

Screen Shot 2013-04-05 At 8.41.14 Am

It's an obvious play on the historic "Keep Calm and Carry On" signs which found new trendiness in dorm rooms about two years ago. But of course for NOM, calmness is defined by how many legal rights you can take from your gay neighbor, and carrying on means stigmatizing LGBT-headed families as fully and loudly as you can, in hopes that you can reverse an obvious tide.

A crown? Puh-leeze. The only way the term "royally" should be used in reg...

Sen Bill Nelson (D-FL) comes out for equality; only six lingering Dems

I'm at an event and can't easily expound or link out, but I did want to note tonight's news that US Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) has reversed his opposition to marriage equality and come out on history's right side. This leaves only six Senate Dems who have yet to do so.

Who will be next? Or the more provocative question: Who will be—yikes!—last?
