MN legislature can distance itself from its Bachmann-ian past

Nine years ago, a Minnesota state lawmaker who'd built her local profile on the issue of marriage (in)equality was busy comparing colleagues who didn't heed her call to ban gays to soldiers who missed the warning signs at Pearl Harbor:

Wow, the official coalition working against equal scouting likes saying gays are stuck in the "terrible/Satanic immoral trap of their sin"? Good to know! I'll do...

Minnesota For Marriage pits Jesus, prayer against civil rights

Not only is the so-called Minnesota For Marriage coalition (*pretty much the same group of people who lost in November 2012, btw) suggesting that the possibility of civil marriage equality in the state is something that can and should be prayed away, but they are giving up the illusion that their call to prayer is for anyone of a faith that is based in something other than Jesus. In a "call to prayer" that the Family Research Council has picked up and reposted, the anti-equality coalition wri...

Where gun control, gay marriage, and pro wrestling collide

Pro wrestler Jay Briscoe tweeted the following:

MORE: Pro Wrestler Jay Briscoe Says He'll 'F**king Shoot' Anyone Who Tells His Kid Gay Marriage Is Okay [Towle]

Well that just seems dumb. I mean, when you go to jail for murder, Mr. Briscoe, all kinds of people other than you will be tasked with leading and teaching your children. I mean, sure, you can maybe impart some wisdom from behind that little screen whenever kids come visit you (because you'll be in jail for first...

US Bishops, determined to alienate through distracting politics, launch national pro-discrimination bulletin

This is to set drop in Catholic church bulletins across the nation over the next two months:

Bulletin Insert Marriage and the Supreme Court Spring 2013

[US Conference of Catholic Bishops]

Whether or not you want to be bound by the teachings of this church and this document is a personal choice. Whether or not you want to be bound by the shared law of this nation and its constitution is not a choice. This aggressive attempt to pit the personally-held choice of faith against the duly mandated obl...

Sure you want to use the Jefferson Memorial, NOM?

To make a case about how marriage threatens religious freedom (more on that coming up), NOM is running a pic of the Jefferson Memorial's second panel:

"Almighty God hath created the mind free. All attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens…are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author of our religion…No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship or ministry or shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief, but all men shall...

Bryan Fischer: Inclusive immigration reform would be 'importing' 'sexual dysfunction'

Sen Patrick Leahy (D-VT) has announced plans to introduce amendments that would allow same-sex couples the same rights that many opposite-sex couples take for granted (e.g. the ability to sponsor foreign partners for green cards; equal protection for binational couples; etc.). But this is what that ol' charmer Bryan Fischer (of the American Family Association) has to say about the proposal:

Shades of what Bryan's pal Peter Sprigg (of the Family Research Council) said just a few years back:

Wouldn't it be really hard to "slice" pig slop? Just asking.
