Listen up, class—Ms. Gallagher will now lead you in Boycotting Ethics 101

After making a point about how she doesn't really have to defend every one of NOM's actions regarding boycotts (even though she was personally

at the shareholders meeting off which NOM launched its main boycott, the one against Starbucks), Maggie Gallagher lays out what she sees as the acceptable standards for boycotting. This is in followup to her post yesterday, in which she attempted to connect the resistance against Orson Scott Card with McCarthyism:

It’s fair to boycott a corporation as a...

Weird you chose *that* SCOTUS poll, NOM

In its latest fundraising blast geared toward raising money off the silly (/deeply offensive) suggestion that their discrimination-geared towards organization is the victimized one, the National Organization For Marriage cites this poll from conservative pollster Scott Rasmussen:

If you are as mad as I am at this judicial usurpation of our rights as Americans, know this: you and I are not alone.

A Rasmussen poll released after the Supreme Court issued its terrible rulings on marriage reports Am...

Video: Small town; gays barred

Another great contribution from the Campaign for Southern Equality:

One thing I find notable about the clerk's response is her insistence that she is duty-bound to follow the civil laws of the state of Mississippi. She's right, of course. But just imagine if she said she wanted to use her pro-gay religious beliefs to go against her lawful duties. The folks over at the National Organization for Marriage would go downright apecrap about it! Yet what do they say whenever an equally duty-bound cle...

Video: Before bobsleigh, a look at nasty laws based on who Bob's layin'

With plans for the 2014 winter games ratcheting up, so is criticism of the LGBT rights positions of the host nation, Russia. Because in case you aren't already aware, this country's policies are so lacking that it is now essentially illegal (with threat of jail time) for a citizen or visitor to even be openly gay or promote anything having to do with LGBT visibility. That's almost too nuts to even process.

Of course openly LGBT athletes Blake Skjellerup will still be at the Olympics, will stil...

Hey, FRC—American Eagle isn't your ENDA talking point!

Ratcheting up its attacks on basic employment nondiscrimination protections for LGBT people (the same ones religious people already enjoy), the Family Research Council tries to claim a case that is actually a repudiation of their anti-LGBT mission. In a column attributed to president Tony Perkins, FRC says:

Screen Shot 2013-07-11 At 8.44.55 AmJust a few years ago, a completely secular clothing company, American Eagle, fired a man who dressed like a woman because his appearance was driving away business in its store. But accordin...

Bryan Fischer: Sen Hatch (R-UT) supporting ENDA because he wants to bring back polygamy

Is a Mormon Republican supporting employment nondiscrimination protections for LGBT people because he hopes LGBT rights will help him bring back polygamy? The American Family Association's most visible face and vocal spokesman is just throwing it out there:

So many assumptions. First, the idea that Sen. Hatch, because he's a Mormon, must want polygamy. Then there's the causally accepted notion that LGBT rights is an automatic step forward for polyamorous relationships. Then, even if you accept...

'Apprentice' host, contestant to headline NOM/ActRight/Family Leader event

Certainly not the first time the National Org. For Marriage has gone uber-conservative. However, it does seem to mark the first NOM event in which both a reality TV host (Trump) and his onetime contestant (Baldwin) co-headline:

[Family Leadership Summit]

Trump actually makes sense. What better time for a dwindling organization to have on-hand a man who is known for firing others?

ENDA moves out of Senate committee!

Truly fantastic news: By a bipartisan 15–7 vote, the long-debated Employment Nondiscrimination Act has moved out of U.S. Senate committee:

ENDA Passes Senate Committee [J.M.G]

No clue when it will hit the Senate floor. And then of course there is the deeply conservative House which, as of late, seems more interested in passing go-nowhere repeals of existing legislation than it does with actually passing laws that would protect hardworking Americans.

But for now? Yay, progress.
