We the papal, in order to unform more perfectly loving unions…
Because it takes a pontifical village to keep the Catholic leadership's priorities misguided and unfocused, the former Pope and the current Pope are collaborating on a new document recommitting the church's teachings and resources to the cause of civil discrimination:
Popes Collaborate on New Text That Reiterates Catholic Church's Opposition to Gay Marriage [Towle]
Of course we know that Catholics actually support marriage equality even more than the public at large, even as the leadership con...

FRC makes DOMA sound even more antiquated than it is
From the Family Research Council's latest round of "Prayer Targets":
[FRC Prayer Targets]
I understand why the FRC writer would make this mistake. DOMA does seem like the product of a pre-Stonewall era. But no. It was actually 1996 when the FRC and allies duped Congress into thinking DOMA was a good and constitutional thing to support.
Oh, and just so we're all clear: It was 2013 when we knocked this horrible law down and ensured its long overdue dismantling.

ABC News/WaPo poll: Americans support pro-equality SCOTUS rulings (and oppose VRA one)!
More evidence of our inevitability:
The split on marriage is as sadly partisan as you'd expect. Democrats and Independents support both the Prop 8 and DOMA rulings by huge percentages (in the 60%+ range) and Republicans the opposite. There's also the expected demographic split, with 18–40 breaking pro-equality in a major way, and then the support dropping off as you get in the 60+ age range.
Long story short: We are winning and will continue to do so. Unfortunate...
(UPDATED) NOM pits gays against America; Happy 4th of July!!!
From the incomparable Thomas Peters, Communications Director for the National Organization For Marriage:
My marriage. My self-respect. My sexual orientation. My family. My flag.
Try all you want, T.P. You will not deny me of any.
**MORE: It's not just Thomas! Check out this, the graphic that NOM has placed at the heart of its latest fundraising blast:

Audio: Matt Birk labels Kluwe, Ayanbadejo 'against traditional marriage'
On yesterday's edition of Tony Perkins' radio show, anti-equality former NFL player Matt Birk branded pro-equality players Brendon Ayanbadejo and Chris Kluwe as being "against traditional marriage":

This aggressive bastardization of the English language is not okay and it needs to stop.
Sit me down at a wedding and I will turn into mush. I will cry at the ceremony. I will be the first on the dance floor. I will eat me a big ass piece of cake and...
Shocker: Mormon-run paper w/ NOM cofounder on Advisory Board opposes SCOTUS rulings
The Deseret News is strongly affiliated with the Mormon Church which, as you surely know, was a major force behind Proposition's 8's passage. Unless something has changed since 2011, the paper also counts National Organization For Marriage co-founder Robert George (and others with NOM ties) as a member of its Editorial Advisory Board.
Which is why my way of saying that you should take this with the biggest grain of salt you can possibly find:
In our opinion: Ruling in DOMA case needless, though...
Maggie Gallagher: Justice Kennedy declared a 'fatwa against us'
Probably the most famous fatwa in recent history is the one where the Iranian Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini called for Salman Rushdie's death. However, if National Organization For Marriage co-founder Maggie Gallagher has her way and her loose rhetoric takes hold, it will be Justice Anthony Kennedy (a Ronald Reagan appointee) who earns cultural distinction for having to defend himself against charges of faith-driven bloodlust:
