FRC's fourth day of fasting-for-discrimination: They're seriously praying SCOTUS justices have Scrooge-like nightmares
It's the fourth day of the Family Research Council's twenty-one days of fasting and prayer for marriage discrimination. Today it's all about the nine judges (and their clerks, their assistants, their friends, their families...), whom FRC is hoping will be visited in the night by spooky specters warning of godly rebuke:
Today, we must pray for each member and the collective court:
-- May those Justices who fear God, prepare and rule in the fear of God (2 Sam 23:3),
-- May the literal fear...
So now the anti-gay right is fine with the 'bigot' label?
I'm not an ad hominem guy in general. It's just not really in my nature to call people a name based on characteristics or even actions. I much prefer to address the actions and unpack the complexities rather than reduce a person at a center of a situation to a one word term. That's the main reason why I, when I started writing about LGBT issues, chose not to call people words like "bigot" or "hater" or "hate monger," etc.
The other reason is because I knew the other side found it both unfai...
Prop 8 leader links 'anti-Christ, anti-God' spirt of LGBT activism to literal murder of Christians
California pastor Jim Garlow was one of the most visible faces of the Proposition 8 fight back in 2008, and he remains a well-connected player in the "pro-family" movement. Check out what he posted just before Easter Sunday:
What's worse than him saying it is the fact that he actually does mean it.

Scott Lively brands marriage at SCOTUS: 'Satan's Super Bowl'
Does this branding, from a man who is literally standing trial for crimes against humanity, mean that I get to make potato skins again?
![]()
Look also for an increasingly virulent wave of self-righteous judgmentalism against faithful Christians and the Bible-believing church — the only remaining barrier to “gay” cultural hegemony in America. This is Satan’s Superbowl and he is in it to win it. And in the process to cause as much hurt and injury as possible to the opposing team. I hope I’m wron...
Video: Leave it to Focus on the Family to turn nature's beauty into discriminatory metaphor
In Colorado, you can find really pretty scenery. But that all might change unless bakers and florists are free to discriminate agains same-sex couples. Or something:
I *love* that he used and iPhone to take his picture. For obvious reasons.

Maggie Gallagher's telling slip-up on what constitutes participation in a wedding
GOP presidential candidate Rand Paul took a question today about those "religious freedom" laws that keep reminding America of how much some people want to discriminate against us. And while longtime champion of marriage discrimination Maggie Gallagher is pleased, she did respond in a way that helps those of us who want to make the case that what the other side is seeking is, in fact, a special exemption. Here's the pertinent snip:
Congratulations to the Rand Paul campaign for being in the...
FRC's marriage fasting Day 3: 'The wolf is at the door' (spoiler: we're the wolf)
The Family Research Council would be perfectly happy if all nine Supreme Court justices wrote "because God" on a slip of paper and offered it up as their unanimous ruling opposing *civil* marriage equality. Today the organization that cable news still pretends is a mere conservative political organizations make that perfectly clear, as they continue to pray against the "wolves" who dare to think themselves entitled to equal rights:
Pray for our pastors today: that they will rise to the occa...
In SCOTUS brief, Idaho's GOP gov. claims marriage equality brings 'long-term harms to same-sex couples, their children, and society'
At several points in his brief, Idaho Governor Butch Otter (or the attorney who wrote the brief for him) references the group American College of Pediatricians as supposed "proof" that gay parents harm our children. As you may or may not know, the American College of Pediatricians is a tiny (between 60–200 members), ideologically-driven splinter organization that was created by the far-right and given a purposely innocuous name for the sole purpose of confusing the credible data put out by t...

In SCOTUS brief, Mike Huckabee support group insists homosexuality is 'significant public health risk'
Mike Huckabee Policy Solutions (MHPS) describes itself as "a non- profit corporation based in Colorado formed for educational and advocacy purposes and backed by private citizens and organizations who support the national policy aims of Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas." In a brief to the United States Supreme Court, filed with the highly discredited Paul Cameron and his Family Research Institute, this group that operates to foster what they see as the likely presidential candidate...
Huge: POTUS to help empty 'ex-gay' snake oil's already meager supply
This was unexpected:
Obama to Call for End to ‘Conversion’ Therapies for Gay and Transgender Youth [NYT]
"Well that seems rash!" exclaims the doctor who still uses liquid mercury as a cough syrup and bloodletting as a way to release the patient's inner demons.
**
*UPDATE: Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett elaborates:
When assessing the validity of conversion therapy, or other practices that seek to change an individual’s gender identity or sexual orientation, it is as imperative to seek g...
