NOM president is 'anxious' (*about losing his six figure salary built around discrimination)
Every year around this time, the National Organization For Marriage strikes the fear of God in its donors, telling them that their failure to give MORE, MORE, MORE might make or break the following year. This year, Brian Brown is using an anxiety motif:
[NOM Money Beg]
Some try yoga. Others opt for Xanax. But as for Brian and his anxiety? It's his continued war against gay people's benign and peaceful inclusion into society that does the trick. We all have our ways of self-medicating.
But really...
Or put another way, Star Parker: If going near a menstruating woman is okay, why isn't homosexuality?
Anti-gay commentator Star Parker:
It happens that the prohibition on bestiality appears in the Book of Leviticus in the verse directly following the verse prohibiting homosexual behavior.
Understanding [Phil] Robertson is not hard. He is a Christian man who accepts the prohibitions which the Bible calls sin.
Understanding this gay spokesperson is a bigger challenge. He wants us to reject one Biblical prohibition – homosexuality – while accepting the Biblical prohibition on bestiality. Why?
If hom...
Liberty Counsel looks back at '13: We were downright obsessed with gay people
This is the copy that the Liberty Counsel is using in its year-end, please-give-us-money message:
During this year, we filed federal lawsuits challenging laws in California and New Jersey that prevent minors from receiving Christian counseling to overcome unwanted same-sex attractions or behavior.
We continued to defend a Massachusetts pastor who faces charges from the radical group, Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG), for allegedly violating international law while visiting Uganda, simply bec...
Phil Robertson: Jesus will cure gays, adulterers, liars
Free speech:
"Jesus will take sins away, if you’re a homosexual he’ll take it away, if you’re an adulterer, if you’re a liar, what’s the difference?"
—Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson, speaking to his bible group
He has every right to say this dangerous, scientifically discredited, deeply offensive stuff; his supporters have every right to stand by it. But they have to own it.
Personally, I don't have any desire to belabor this story. He has made it very clear that he is proudly and aggressively...
NOM Chair elaborates on NOM's plans for a constitutional convention
Earlier this year, I revealed that the National Organization For Marriage has purchased a cache of domain names referring to a "marriage convention" (or "marriage con con"). On Catholic radio last week, NOM Chairman John Eastman elaborated on NOM's plans:
[SOURCE: The Drew Mariani Show, 12/19/13]
A ha! NOM doesn't really think it's going to achieve the unprecedented accomplishment of a constitutional convention. Instead, NOM thinks it can tease the idea so fully that a scared Congress will pass...

LDS Church issues very muted rebuke of Utah's newfound marriage equality
Same-sex couples are marrying in Utah as we speak, and the state Attorney General's request for an emergency stay was denied. So as to be expected, the LDS Church is speaking out about what's happening in Salt Lake and all around the state.
What I find notable, however, is how light of a condemnation they are offering up. This is it, in full:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement Friday after a court ruling on same-sex marriage in Utah:
The Church has bee...
Interesting: Maggie Gallagher says she probably *would* bake a cake for a gay wedding
Even though the organization she co-founded has spent the better part of the past two years rushing to make victims out of any vendor who wishes to flout his or her local nondiscrimination laws so that they don't have to serve gay customers, Maggie Gallagher says that she herself probably could bake a gay couple's wedding cake:
*ALSO: Maggie's full speech on a variety of topics related to LGBT rights and marriage
I just don't get it. Maggie is pretty sure that she could do it, so long as she ge...

As typically happens on a Friday, Utah gets marriage equality
HUGE:
Federal judge strikes down Utah’s ban on same-sex marriage
I'm at a holiday party, so I can't say much more right now. Mainly because I'm now busy reassuring the people at this party, to whom I excitedly shared this news, that April Fools Day is not the holiday we're celebrating.

American Family Association's Fischer links Uganda anti-gay law to 'Duck Dynasty'
The American Family Association has led the charge to turn a reality TV show into a rally cry. Now look on as that organization's senior spokesperson directly links the man at the center of that controversy to the just-passed Uganda bill that attaches a lifetime jail penalty to homosexuality:
Just remember, #StandWithPhil folks: He made this connection—not GLAAD.
