Oregon bakery admits truth: They just don't like homosexuality, want to 'save' gay people

If Sweet Cakes by Melissa had any semblance of a court challenge (hint: they didn't), they just lessened it. In a new Facebook comment, the Orgeon bakery that supposedly denied only a same-sex wedding (as opposed to a gay customer) just admitted that it was the customers' homosexuality itself that did them in:

Let me repeat again: They never had any case to begging with, as you can't just up and flout fairly enacted nondiscrimination laws simply because you don't agree with them. But with thi...

Non-winning org. faults non-discriminatory opponent for non-controversial tweet

Those of us who wonk out on this LGBT political stuff often use the phrase "marriage states" as a shorthand reference to the eighteen of our fifty (plus D.C.) where marriage equality is a legal reality. The flip of that is "non-marriage states" when we reference those who have yet to catch up to history's right side.

It's not some secret attempt to change people's thinking. No one is hiding it. It would never occur to most of us to mask this shorthand jargon, as most of us would never believe...

Don't get civilly married, gays, or Bishop of church you might or might not choose to follow will cancel your slumber party

I've been meaning to get to this story for a while, but my daddy put me in time out because I threw a temper tantrum when he told me I couldn't get a new Lego set:

The Illinois Roman Catholic bishop who conducted an exorcism service the day the state’s marriage equality bill was signed into law says he wasn’t being hateful — he was performing a “loving” act of discipline, like a parent correcting a child. And he has reiterated his belief same-sex marriage is “the work of the devil.”

“Any good p...

Video: To clear name of anti-gay extremism, Dave Agema goes on America's most extreme anti-gay show

Because of his inarguably extreme comments about LGBT people, even Republicans who oppose LGBT rights have called on Dave Agema to resign from his prominent role on the Republican National Committee. So to clear his name, what does he do? Why he goes on the show of one of the only radio hosts in the nation whose own extreme rhetoric tops Agema's own comments

Oh, he's the victim? How novel.

Though Bryan is right: the GOP is quite anti-gay itself. Pretty interesting to see this new war within the...

Indiana marriage equality opponents essentially admitting that tide is turning against them

Ever since the Indiana house stripped away language from that state's proposed marriage amendment, a move that will likely push any potential vote on the matter back to at least the year 2016, the state's supporters of discrimination have been saying some interesting things about the ban and its chances. Namely, they've been all but admitting that two years of change will pretty much kill any hope they had to pass the ignoble measure.

The is the gist, courtesy of the Indiana Family Institute

A look at the the signs from Utah's anti-gay, pro-discrimination, wrong-side-of-history rally

At last night's anti-gay, pro-discrimination, wrong-side-of-history, gay-parents-are-like-slave-owners rally in Salt Lake City, Utah, three signs stood out to me. This one was probably the most prevalent:

It is a meaningless sign. Their intent, obviously, is to suggest that procreative heterosexuality is the only thing that qualifies as acceptable biology. That is just plain wrong. The spectrum of biology is quite open to people and other animals who have sex with members of the same gender. T...

Utah lawmaker hopes to put H&R Block-the-gays into business

Screen Shot 2014-01-29 At 1.33.04 PmWhat an odious proposal:

Rep. Merrill Nelson, R-Grantsville, suggests a novel way to pay for the state’s ongoing legal battle to ban same-sex marriage: Allow taxpayers to donate part of their income tax refund for it.

His HB48 would create a check-off on forms for a "Marriage Defense Fund." It would also allow direct donations to the fund via cash, check or credit card — and would direct the state to conduct a marketing campaign to help raise money.

FULL: Possible new tax form check-off: fight s...
