Book Review: When You're Ready

WHEN YOU'RE READY by JL Berg: Can his love mend the pieces of her grieving heart?

Years after suffering the tragic loss of her husband, Ethan, which left her alone to raise their young daughter, Clare Murray still holds the last letter he wrote with the words “When You’re Ready” written in his familiar messy handwriting, unable to break its weathered seal. Ready for what? He was her entire world, and Clare had accepted a life without him, without love. Until years later, fate brings her to an emergency room, and face to face with a stormy-eyed doctor intent on changing her mind.

Logan Matthews is the son of a billionaire who has spent his entire life trying to make his absent father proud. Years of living up to a man who was more ghost than father, and a publicly failed marriage has left Logan cold and emotionless until he walks into an exam room and discovers a woman who can stop his heart, make his body burn with desire and leave his entire world altered.

But how far are Clare and Logan willing to go for love? When their love is tested, is Clare ready to put her whole heart on the line again? Can Logan learn the true meaning of love, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness? When a second chance at love is given, Clare and Logan learn you never know if you are truly ready until you’re ready to risk it all.

TeriLyn's thoughts: When You're Ready is my favorite kind of story; two lost souls with plenty of demons finding something each other to mend themselves. Logan and Clare's story is sweet. They meet, they feel a connection and they work to mend what's broken inside themselves. Their worries about the relationship are internal; no drama involved no cheating, no crazy ex's. Clare is my favorite kind of heroine and I say it all the time; sassy, beautiful, and strong. Her strength is defined by her ability to keep moving forward in life even after she has lost the love of her life. She immediately accepts Logan, no questions asked. She sees the good in him behind all the hurt and knows they could make each other stronger. Logan is broken but once he makes an instant connection with Clare he wants nothing more than to explore the strength and vulnerability he finds in her. They complement each other perfectly. He wants to give her everything even when he thinks incapable. Clare's best friend Leah is awesome. She's funny and supportive and provides comedic relief at all times. Clare's daughter Maddie is a light in darkness. Her joy is palpable and infectious. Logan's instant love for her will warm your heart. Ms. Berg's writing is fantastic and engrossing. I sat down in one sitting and read Logan and Clare's love story and it completely captivated me. I would definitely read this again and I look forward to more from these characters in Leah’s book.

Book Review: Keep Me Still

KEEP ME STILL by Casey Quinn: Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she's built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.

Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls, but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her

* This special edition of Keep Me Still includes the novella, Let You Leave:
Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bind them together or tear them apart.

Whairigail's thoughts:

As a Caisey Quinn Fangirl, I would read almost anything she writes. No really, I would actually read a story about toilet paper if she wrote it!

But no matter how many stories of hers I read (Girl with Guitar, Girl on Tour)...Her stories just keep getting better!

My version of Keep Me Still includes a copy of Let You Leave which is a prequel Novella so I'll requiew the two of these together.

Let You Leave Blurb:

Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bind them together or tear them apart.

Review:

"He holds me, he keeps me still. Like he always has"

This is such a stunning novel - it covers some very difficult topics, such as abuse, violence, death, PTSD, illness and young love, and it covers them beautifully.

Lets start with Let You Leave as this is where the story truly begins.

Layla is a young girl who is trying her damn hardest to get through her Senior Year unnoticed. Which, for any normal teenage is difficult, but for her, it is almost impossible. Because she is "Freaky Flaherty" - The Orphan. The Orphan who's parents were shot in front of her. The Orphan who suffers from seizures.

Landed is an athletic High School student who travels all over America following his Dad - An Army Colonel with one hell of a temper. He only sticks around to protect his fragile Mom.

None of them are actually living - they are both just Surviving

Then their eyes meet in the school hallway and both of their lives change forever.

This beauriful novella helps us inderstand the story in Keep Me Still, it gives us an intro to our lead characters and sets the scene for their college lives.

Keep Me Still...I honestly don't know how to put into words just how stunning a story this is. It is touching, heart breaking, full of loss and leaves you full of hope.

I don't want to give too much of this story away but what I will tell you is this:

Layla is a strong young woman going through what can only be described as turmoil.

Landen loves Layla more than he ever thought possible - he would do anything for her.

Layla's Aunt Kate is a bit of a controlling bitch, even if it is meant with the best of intentions.

Corin, Layla's roommate, will make you laugh with her witty one liners and outlook on life.

You will NEVER look at Cherries in the same way EVER again...

Keep Me Still will break your heart - over and over again. Just when you think all hope is lost, something incredible happens and restores your faith in humanity. It will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling and with a huge contented smile on your face!

I absolutely loved it!

Caisey Quinn my Gorgeous Girl...you did it again!
5 Incredible, Extra Cherries on Top, Hearts!!

Cover Reveal: Making Faces

Title: Making Faces

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Expected Release Date: October 20, 2013
Cover Design: Carly Stevens
Cover Reveal Organized By: Cristina’s Book Reviews and Vilma’s Book Blog
Goodreads
Amazon pre-order

Synopsis:

Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

Amy Harmon knew at an early age that writing was something she wanted to do, and she divided her time between writing songs and stories as she grew. Having grown up in the middle of wheat fields without a television, with only her books and her siblings to entertain her, she developed a strong sense of what made a good story. Amy Harmon has been a motivational speaker, a grade school teacher, a junior high teacher, a home school mom, and a member of the Grammy Award winning Saints Unified Voices Choir, directed by Gladys Knight. She released a Christian Blues CD in 2007 called "What I Know" - also available on Amazon and wherever digital music is sold. She has written five novels, Running Barefoot, Slow Dance in Purgatory, Prom Night in Purgatory, the New York Times Bestseller, A Different Blue and coming October 20, Making Faces.

Excerpt:
He didn't know how to make her understand that she was so much more than just pretty. So he leaned forward and pressed his mouth to hers. Very carefully. Not like the other night when he'd been scared and impulsive, and smacked her head against the wall in his attempt to kiss her. He kissed her now to tell her how he felt. He pulled away almost immediately, not giving himself a chance to linger and lose his head. He wanted to show her he valued her, not that he wanted to rip her clothes off. And he wasn't sure when it came right down to it that she wanted to be kissed by an ugly SOB. She was the kind of girl that would kiss him because she didn't want to hurt his feelings. The thought filled him with despair.

She let out a frustrated sigh and sat up, running her hands through her hair. It flowed through her fingers and down her back, and he wished he could bury his own hands in it, bury his face in the heavy locks and breathe her in. But he'd obviously upset her.

“I'm sorry, Fern. I shouldn't have done that.”

“Why?” she snapped, startling him enough that he winced. “Why are you sorry?”

“Because you're upset.”

“I'm upset because you pulled away! You're so careful. And it's frustrating!”
Ambrose was taken back by her honesty, and he smiled, instantly flattered. But the smile faded as he tried to explain himself.

"You're so small, Fern. Delicate. And all of this is new to you. I'm afraid I'm going to come on too strong. And if I break you or hurt you, I won't survive that, Fern. I won't survive it." That thought was worse than walking away from her and he shuddered inwardly. He wouldn't survive it. He had already hurt too many. Lost too many.

Fern knelt in front of him, and her chin wobbled and her eyes were wide with emotion. Her voice was adamant as she held his face between her hands, and when he tried to pull away so she wouldn't feel his scars, she hung on, forcing his gaze.

"Ambrose Young! I have waited my whole life for you to want me. If you don't hold me tight I won't believe you mean it, and that's worse than never being held at all. You better make me believe you mean it, Ambrose, or you will most definitely break me."

“I don't want to hurt you, Fern,” he whispered hoarsely.

“Then don't,” she whispered back, trusting him. But there were lots of ways to cause pain. And Ambrose knew he was capable of hurting her in a thousand ways.

Ambrose stopped trying to pull his face away, surrendering to the way it felt to be touched. He hadn't allowed anyone to touch him for a long time. Her hands were small, like the rest of her, but the emotions they stirred in him were enormous, gigantic, all-consuming. She made him shake, made him quake inside, vibrate like the tracks under an on-coming train.

Her hands left his face and traveled down the sides of his neck. One side smooth, the other riddled with divots and scars and rippled where the skin had been damaged. She didn't pull away, but felt each mark, memorized each wound. And then she leaned forward and pressed her lips to his neck, just below his jaw. And then again on the other side, on the side that bore no scars, letting him know that the kiss wasn't about sympathy but desire. It was a caress. And his control broke.

A Little Too Far (A Little Too Far, #1)
Publisher: HarperCollins
Release Date: September 17th, 2013 (eBook), October 1st, 2013 (Print)

Synopsis: Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

Goodreads

ALTF playlistI wrote A LITTLE TOO FAR in thirteen days in January, and revised for another week, so the playlist is pretty short. But because my muse is a wannabe rockstar, there is always a musical inspiration for each of my books.
For Lexie, everything changes in one moment of weakness. She’s left to sort through what she truly wants out of life, and then to figure out how to let go of the things she can’t have. The song that most embodies her is Ross Copperman’s “Holding On and Letting Go.”
Alessandro’s song relates to his struggle to decide what his path is as he faces down his demons, and his desire to help Lexie face down her own. It’s Staind “Believe In Me.”
And Trent, who’s been Lexie’s best friend and confidant, but sees that slipping away, is most embodied by Rob Thomas’ “Ever the Same.”

This whole book is basically a tribute to Jason Wade, the mastermind behind Lifehouse, whose songs beg to be written into books. “All In” and “Falling In” are the two main songs that played on repeat while I was writing.

Lisa Desrochers lives in central California with her husband and two very busy daughters. There is never a time that she can be found without a book in her hand, and she adores stories that take her to new places, and then take her by surprise.

Look for her New Adult novel, A LITTLE TOO FAR , courtesy of HarperCollins Sept 2013, and the first companion, A LITTLE TOO MUCH , in Nov 2013. Also in stores is her YA PERSONAL DEMONS trilogy (Macmillan).

Book Review: Everything For Us

EVERYTHING FOR US (The Bad Boys #3) by M. Leighton: Olivia Townsend’s wealthy cousin Marissa had everything a girl could ask for—a great job, a privileged life, and all the friends she wanted. Or, at least, all the friends money could buy. But one case of mistaken identity has turned her privileged world upside down.

An abduction gone wrong lands her right in the lap of the sexiest, most dangerous man she’s ever met. To Marissa, he’s an enigma, but one to whom she’s irresistibly, inexplicably drawn.

With him comes a new world of freedom and passion, of dark shadows and dangerous secrets, a world where nothing is what it seems—except for the blind passion that Marissa can’t escape—or maybe even survive.

TeriLyn's thoughts: I loved this moreso than the first two which I thought were really good. Marissa and Nash were awesome, mysterious, and intense. It's hard for me to review these books because there are twists that I don't want to allude to. But once these two let go it's great. And the frustration they go through because of each other is engrossing. They're both trying to figure out who they are and want to be. Neither can accept the fact that they are better off figuring it out together. The changes they both go through help make it more clear. Marissa describes Nash as an "inferno" and it's a accurate description. He's brooding, dark, and angry. His need for vengeance somehow makes him that much more endearing to the reader and to Marissa. She wants to help him; be his outlet. She realizes she needs that too. She needs an outlet, she craves freedom. They could be exactly what they didn't realize they needed. I really enjoyed Everything For Us.

Book Review: Don't Let Go

DON'T LET GO by Michelle Lynn: Sadie Miller is attempting to change her ways and hide somewhere no one knows her former self. She only wants to finish her final year of college, obtain her degree, and get out from the hold of her affluent parents. Then she meets Brady Carsen, the lead singer of The Invisibles, a local band popular with the college crowd. She tries to stay away but quickly realizes that, although he might not be what she’s used to, he’s exactly what she needs and more importantly, everything she could possibly want.

Unfortunately, Sadie’s troubled past left her with insecurities that make her question Brady’s true intentions. And while Brady is convinced that Sadie is the one for him, he has his own secrets that he fears will be their undoing. If they want to be together, they will have to stand united and fight the outside influences that are threatening to tear them apart. Can they put their pasts behind them for good in order to secure their future?
TeriLyn's thoughts: I fell in love with Brady and Sadie. Don't Let Go is fantastic, one of my favorites of the year by far! This story is my favorite type of romance. The hero and heroine are both trying to change from their turbulent pasts, they find each other and work through it together. Sadie is a great heroine. She's strong and confident without even knowing it. She is dealing with her past and starting fresh; finding Brady wasn't planned but he was a welcomed distraction. Sadie finds herself living a better a life with better values but still remaining true to herself. Her love for Brady is palpable almost from the beginning of their courtship. Sadie knows they make each other better and is confident in that. Brady is awesome; sweet, kind, romantic. He saw Sadie for the first time and was done for which makes me love him even more. I loved that what we thought was the first time he saw her wasn't actually the case because the first time he saw her is beautiful. Brady is confident in them too and never hides his feelings for her or his convictions about their relationship. Their physical relationship progresses slower but it seems so natural for them. And while they both are hiding something from the other they're not hiding their feelings for each other. They are always open and honest which causes them to grow together and have faith in their relationship. That faith is strong when it comes to each other; it's their faith in themselves that is constantly tested. My favorite part is the speech Brady gives Sadie in her room when her roommate, Mom, and Grandma are present. The secondary cast of characters is great too. Jessa was a spunky addition to Sadie's life. Brady's roommates are great for comic relief as well as Grandma Ida.

Don't Let Go is a heartwarming, special story. I couldn't put it down and read it from beginning to end in one evening. I'm so happy I read it and look forward to Grant's story next.

Book Review: My Unexpected Forever

MY UNEXPECTED FOREVER by Heidi McLaughlin: ***IT'S SUGGESTED YOU READ MY EVERYTHING BEFORE READING MY UNEXPECTED FOREVER***

I expected a life of music.
I expected to raise my son.
It took one look to make everything change.
I never expected happiness.

I never expected to find her.
I never expected to feel desire.
I never expected I’d be a family man.
I never expected to be loved.
I never expected to fall in love.

They say you should expect the unexpected, I didn’t realize my unexpected would be the forever kind

TeriLyn's thoughts: Four hearts for Harrison James for sure. My Unexpected Forever was an engrossing story about the strength of family and home; no matter where you find it. It's a heartwarming story about loss and moving on for Katelyn. For Harrison it's about discovery and holding on. Harrison is perfect, patient, and so full of love. He exudes kindness and confidence. He wants very much to help the Powell girls and their mom live a happy life with a full family. He fights to prove himself over and over and his fight is sweet, romantic, and passionate. Katelyn is the same extremely loving and giving person but she's so buried in grief she forgets it. It takes a lot for Katelyn to open up even the slightest bit. Her resolve is tested and her vulnerability shines making her that much more endearing. Liam and Josie are back and I'm glad they were a big of this story after loving Forever My Girl so much. They're support and love for Harrison, Katelyn, and their kids amazing. All four kids are great too and an integral part of the book. They help provide so much insight into the character of Harrison and Katelyn. I love the Beaumont Series and all the characters. My Unexpected Forever was a great sequel.

I am strong, because I've been weak. I'm fearless, because I've been afraid. I'm wise, because I've been foolish.

8. He's a movie star sex god. She's a virgin... and a stripper.

So how did I get myself into this situation, you ask? Simple: desperation. When you're faced with being homeless and hungry or taking off your clothes for money, the choice is easier than you'd imagine. That doesn't make it easy, though. Oh no. I hate it, in fact. There's nothing I'd like more than to quit and never go into another bar again, never hear the techno beat pulsing in my ears again, never feel the lecherous gazes of horny men again.

Then, one day, I meet a man. He's in my club, front and center. He watches me do my routine, and his gaze is full of hunger. Not the kind of desire I'm used to though. It's something different. Something hotter, deeper, and more possessive. I know who he is; of course I do. Everyone knows who Dawson Kellor is. He's People Magazine's Sexiest Man alive. He's the hottest actor in Hollywood. He's the man hand-picked for the role of Rhett Butler in the long-awaited remake of Gone With the Wind.

He's the kind of man who can have any woman in the entire world with a mere crook of his finger. So what's he doing looking at me like he has to have me? And how do I resist him when he looks at me with those intoxicating, changeable, quicksilver eyes?

I'm a virgin, and he's an American icon of male sexuality. I'm a stripper, and he's a man used to getting anything and everything he wants. And he wants me. I know I should say no, I know he's the worst kind of player...but what my mind knows, my body and my heart may not.

And then things get complicated.

9. The V Card. Virgin. Most of us want to punch that sucker ASAP, and hide the fact until then, but not Cassie Hale. Three years ago she frickin' covered hers in glitter and laminated the thing, proudly telling me that she's waiting for the perfect guy.

So when I see her half naked, tangled together, rolling around on the floor with another stripper, I'm kind of shocked. Okay, that's an understatement. I'm enthralled. I have to know what cracked her picture perfect world and landed her here, and I hope it's something horrible-an event that broke her the way she broke me. Because, that's who Cassie Hale is--the woman who stole my heart and crushed it in her hand.

10. Live young. Live hard. Love deep.

Charley Redford was just an ordinary girl until Jake Caplin moved to her small town in Indiana and convinced her she was extraordinary. Almost from day one Jake pulled Charley into the deep and promised he was right there with her. But when a tragic incident darkened Jake’s life he waded out into the shallows and left Charley behind.

Almost four years later Charley thinks she’s moved on. That is until she takes a study year abroad in Edinburgh and bumps into none other than Jake Caplin at a party with his new girlfriend. The bad-boy-turned-good attempts to convince Charley to forgive him, and as her best friend starts spending time with Jake’s, Charley calls a truce, only to find herself tumbling back into a friendship with him.

As they grow closer, the spark between them flares and begins playing havoc with their lives and relationships. When jealousy and longing rear their destructive heads, Charley and Jake struggle to come to grips with what they mean to one another.
And even if they work it out, there is no guarantee Charley will ever trust Jake to lead her back into the deep…

Promo & Giveaway: Elizabeth Reyes

What comes to mind when you hear the name Elizabeth Reyes? Hot guys, Hot romance, and Hot books! In honor of her first book release three years ago, September 6th-17th is everything Elizabeth Reyes! From Forever Mine (The Moreno Brothers, #1) to Abel (5th Street, #4) nothing is left out of this celebration.

Also, the author will have Noah and Forever Mine both on sale for $.99 cents!

FACTS ABOUT THE FATESERIESBy Elizabeth Reyes
For some reason, so many of my readers don't know Fate #1 is out there and has been out for over a year. I continually get emails from readers asking me if I'll be writing Vince and Rose's story. I'VE WRITTEN IT! IT'S BEEN OUT FOR OVER A YEAR! I guess this is just further proof that I suck at promoting. =/
Breaking Brandon (Fate #2), coming later this year is the first book my cover artist hired models for. While I love all of my stock photo covers on my previous books, there is something so disappointing about seeing one of my guys on someone else's cover. Unfortunately, stock photos are not exclusive, so it's a risk you run. I love knowing that the cover for BB will not be on anyoneelse's covers ever!
I mentioned my feelings about motorcycles being dangerous. My anxiety about motorcycles being dangerous has worked its way into Breaking Brandon's plot.
For those who are not aware, the next two characters featured in the Fate series after Brandon are Sydney and Lorenzo. I've already written the prologues for both and have to literally force myself to stay away so I can finish my current WIP. I'm so excited about them. As usual, expect lots of drama. ;)
Another fun fact about my writing in general.
Many of the incidents, fatherly/motherly advice, jokes, unexpected accidents/mistakes, awkward moments, and far out statements that my characters make or experience are a direct result from something/someone in my life.
No one will get this one yet, but once Breaking Brandon is out, you will. My brother is the Charlie Brown of my family. I'm pretty sure there is one in every family. ;)
About the Author:
I write because I must. It's not a choice or a pastime, it's an unyielding calling and my passion." ~Elizabeth Reyes~

Elizabeth continues to answer to her calling on a daily basis. Since releasing her debut novel Forever Mine (Moreno Brothers #1) in 2010 she has now published 10* novels total and fast at work on the next. The excitement her Moreno Brothers, 5th Street, and Fate series have garnered have far exceeded her wildest dreams. It is with as much excitement that she'll continue to put out books related to these series as well as introduce brand new ones very soon.
