Book Review: A Broken Us
A Broken Us by Amy Daws: Finley and Brody live in their own little bubble of “us.” Instead of, “I love you,” they say, “I love us.” It’s their own perfect endearment to each other. Finley’s quirky ways are the perfect contrast to Brody’s scandalously sexy passion.
But Finley’s picture-perfect world gets pummeled when she gets a hard dose of reality from her doctor that changes everything.
Crippled with the fear of Brody’s reaction, Finley does what she does best—she runs. She breaks his heart and leaves behind a life that is just too painful to live.
One international flight later, Finley’s best friend welcomes her with open arms in London and she is immersed in a new country with new experiences and eccentric roommates.
Nursing a broken heart, Finley grieves for the life she left behind and attempts to embrace the new one she is creating. When a cheeky Brit named Liam, a self proclaimed “fixer” catches her eye, she hopes it’s exactly what she needs to forget. But when Liam wants to help Finley unpack her bags for good, she realizes that her heart is still back home…with Brody.
Jennifer's thoughts: I received this book in exchange for an honest review
A Broken Us is the story of Finley and Brody. In the beginning of the story--Finley learned some terrible news. She decided to pack up and leave. This meant leaving Brody.
I spent most of the story (especially the beginning) feeling sorry for Brody. I think Finley could have handled things a bit different. She comes across as a little selfish. She wasn't my favorite character, but I didn't dislike her.
I did like the story and felt that Amy Daws did an excellent job telling Finley's and Brody's story. Good Job and great writing.

Book Review: Grayson
Grayson by Lisa Eugene: Adult Erotic Contemporary
An insane love that will keep you from falling---or push you right off the edge.
All she needed was a job…
The last thing twenty-four year old grad student Angie Roberts needs is to worry about her new boss’s father. After all, she’s never even seen him. He remains sequestered upstairs in a house that looks like it should be the main feature in an episode of Hoarders. She had no idea the house was such a dump when she took the job. But she’s concerned about the safety and health of the old man living under such horrid conditions.
What she got was a mystery…
Despite warnings not to venture upstairs, she wanders up to the second floor. What she sees is shocking. The man she finds is a gorgeous, sexy, middle-aged man-- and he's stepping out of the shower. But something is definitely not right. Why would this wealthy, handsome man live in a house in such disrepair while his nineteen year old son resides in a lavish penthouse? Why does he hide away from society? Why does he come to her rescue and then run away?
What she discovered was heartbreaking…
Angie learns that forty-four year old Grayson Whitmore suffers from schizophrenia. Paranoid, he retreats into his own world.
What she ended up with was a treasure…
Angie is determined to get through to Grayson. They form a friendship that blazes into an inconceivable love fired with raging passion. Angie must now come to Grayson’s rescue because the wicked that has been perpetrated on him is unconscionable. First, though, she must gain the trust of a man whose mind does not allow for such a thing.
Jennifer's thoughts: Grayson is one of those feel good reads. Even though the story focuses on mental illness it will make you smile. The story is told from Angie's POV. She is a nurse who is struggling with work, graduate school and helping her family financially. She decides to take a part time job cleaning out an older home. This is where she meets Grayson.
The story of Angie and Grayson is beautiful. He suffers from mental illness and she wants to help him. She wants him to feel safe. They face many obstacles, but overcome each one for love and happiness.
Lisa's writing style is beautiful and she does a wonderful job telling this heart felt story. I would highly recommend this book.

Book Review: Deception
Deception (Deception #1) by K.A. Robinson: Please note: This isn’t your typical love story. Things are messy. Characters aren’t always what they appear to be. Wrong decisions are made. If you’re not a fan of the darker side of love, this might not be the book for you. Read at your own risk.
I’m strong—or at least, I want to be. I try to be. Oh, how I’ve tried.
But life screwed me over. When I was at my weakest and lowest, desperate and alone, he found me.
Robert changed everything. He gave me everything.
He was every woman’s dream—rich, powerful, and charming. He made me forget the fact that he’s twenty-four years my senior.
He made me feel alive, and for the first time in my life, I was content.
Until I met Cooper—his son.
And Robert? He began to change.
I’m despicable. I know I am. I’m ashamed of what I want.
Things are never what they seem.
Greed.
Lust.
Lies.
Murder.
Deception.
Read chapter one here: http://authorkarobinson.blogspot.com/
Jennifer's thoughts: This is the first time I've read anything written by K.A. Robinson. The book was great. Normally I don't get aggravated by a cliff hanger ending, but I have to admit when I finished this book I was a little freaking upset.
I want to know what happens and I want to know now, not in early 2015. All of that aside...the book was excellent. The story was written from Claire's POV. She wasn't the strongest of personalities, but I think she has potential. She is young and has a lot of growing up to do, but I feel like in the second book she will be a much different young woman. She is torn between Robert and Cooper, but I'm not going to elaborate for fear of giving too much away.
I strongly recommend Deception it is well worth the read.
Aside from the ending leaving me hanging I really loved this story. And yes...I will be patiently waiting for installment two.

Excerpt:
“You played me,” he said, but he didn’t sound mad. He sounded impressed.
“It worked,” I said, pride suffusing my tone. “But the scrapes are real.”
“Yeah, I feel terrible. Shall I go hunt down a Band-Aid for you now? Oh wait. You carry them with you. You’re always prepared.”
“You never know when you might have to take a fall to be first,” I said, and rooted around in the front pocket of my backpack for a Band-Aid. I found one, peeled off the wrapping and started to press it onto my palm.
“Let me help,” he said in a soft voice, laying the ends of the Band-Aid onto my skin. He stepped closer, his body now officially in the zone of supreme nearness–the zone that would allow for hands to explore chests, and arms to be wrapped around necks, and lips to lock again. I held my breath. My hands tingled under his touch. “This is the part in the script where the reformed bad boy touches the heroine for the second time,” he whispered.
I wanted to close my eyes and linger in the moment. But I had to be stoic. I couldn’t say what I wanted to say. That this was the moment when the heroine’s skin raced from the barest touch. So I lied. “This is the part where the heroine doesn’t even notice.”
He raised an eyebrow. He held my gaze. I didn’t look away in enough time. My breath caught, and my lips were parted. “Hi,” he whispered in a voice that was getting under my skin.
“Hi,” I said against my better judgment, against my brain.
“Are we still on for the movie tomorrow?”
“You’re just asking me out because I’m the competition, right? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?”
“I’m asking because I want to go out with you. Not because you’re the enemy.”
I scoffed. “At least you admitted I’m the enemy. That’s why you’re asking me.”
He raised his hand, reaching gently for a strand of my hair. My feet felt wobbly with him so near to me. The earth was suddenly operating at a bizarre angle. I pressed my palm against the brick wall behind me to steady myself as he ran a finger along my hair. So softly. “I swear,” he whispered, pinning me with his gaze. “I truly want to see the movie with you. Say you’re still going with me.”

Exclusive excerpt:
The muscle in his jaw moved, and his voice was a throaty whisper. “Being with you is incredibly easy. Whether it’s a mistake, I guess we have to wait and see. I’d like to think it’s not.”
My body swayed with the movement of his thumbs over my breasts. “I want you to kiss me.”
In one swift movement, his mouth covered mine. An ache of longing moaned from my throat into his lips, and he pulled my bottom lip between his teeth. Wrapped in his arms, tight against his firm chest, heat sizzled under my skin.
He whispered over my lashes as he pressed his lips to my forehead, the scruff of his beard roughing my skin. “I’ve dreamed of holding you this way since that first night. I hated myself for it because you’d been hurt—”
“You kept me from being hurt.” My voice was breathless with desire.
His lips moved back to my cheek, down to my jaw. “You’re so beautiful standing here in the moonlight.”
Dropping to his knees, cool air flooded where the warmth of his body had been. Strong hands moved to my waist, one holding my side, the other flat against my lower back as full lips kissed my stomach through the damp shirt. His mouth moved to my hip, and I felt my legs start to tremble.
“Slayde,” I whispered, barely staying on my feet. It had been so long since I’d been touched this way, I wasn’t sure how much I could bear.

Book Review: Sideswiped
Sideswiped (Off the Map #2) by Lia Riley: Talia Stolfi has seen more than her share of loss in her twenty-one years. But then fate brought her Bran Lockhart, and her dark world was suddenly and spectacularly illuminated. So if being with Bran means leaving her colorless NorCal life for rugged and wild Australia, then that’s what she’ll do. But as much as Talia longs to give herself over completely to a new beginning, the fears of her past are still lurking in the shadows.
Bran Lockhart knows that living without the beautiful girl who stole his heart will be torment, so he’ll take whatever time with her he can. But even though she has packed up her life in California and is back in his arms for the time being, she can’t stay forever. And the remaining time they have together is ticking by way too fast. Though fate seems determined to tear them apart, they won’t give up without a fight—because while time may have limits, their love is infinite . . .
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Sideswiped generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**
Sideswiped, book two in Lia Riley’s Off the Map new adult series, gives us more Bran & Talia excitement – two people destined for greatness fighting to foster the beautiful connection created between them. The story is told from both Bran and Talia’s points of view and the author’s choice to include more of Bran really worked for me. I liked the inner dialogues of both characters. Lia Riley’s writing is as emotional as it is comedic. These two characters together really prove to the reader why we should believe in the beauty of their love. Their banter is witty and fun mixed in with the feelings of angst over their individual futures. This story navigates the pulse of their relationship during a time of confusion over what they each should do with their futures. It’s a question that tests all “new adults” and Riley’s examination of the issue while maintaining their love works really well.
Upside Down focused on the newness of the feelings Bran & Talia experience when it came to each other, Sideswiped takes the newness and makes it a raw and real exploration of the consuming feelings we get after we’ve fallen in love. I enjoyed the complexity of these two characters much more in book two than book one. Reading their fight to be in love and understand each other made the story so fierce. The nuances we learned about their pasts and how those events play out in the present also worked great. Lia Riley excited me to learn more about Bran & Talia. I was rooting for them after book one. I believe in them after book two – after the conflicts they endured. Especially Talia, her growth and the resolute conviction in her decisions is amazing. The ending perplexed me a bit. I’m okay with cliffhangers but something about this ending left me reeling. It’s only slight. Maybe I’m just that excited to read the conclusion to this trilogy. Discovering how Bran & Talia's journey concludes is something I look forward to, I know this author will deliver. If you’re looking for funny, well written new adult romance – Lia Riley is an author to try.

Book Review: Wasted
Wasted (Whiskey Nights #1) by Suzannah Daniels: WASTED is a new adult, contemporary romance recommended for adult readers due to mature content.
It all started with sex on the beach…the drink, not…you know.
As a bartender, Mason Cambridge often charmed beautiful women who ordered up cocktails on his shift. It was part of his job after all, and he needed the tips—badly.
When Lexi Swafford plopped her pretty little tail down on the bar stool, Mason offered her a drink. He had no idea that he would soon be working with her or that he’d be letting her room with him until her new apartment was ready.
In fact, once Lexi Swafford landed in Creekview, Tennessee, life as Mason Cambridge knew it would cease to exist…because after a night of drinking away the agony of his loneliness, one touch from her would change everything.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Wasted generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**
Having never read a title by this author before I hadn’t known what to expect from her stories when I signed up to read Wasted. The blurb certainly intrigued me and the cover is beyond hot. After reading the tangled, twisty, fun, love story of Mason Cambridge and Lexi Swafford I can officially say Suzannah Daniels lured me into her both intriguing and hot world of Whiskey Nights.
A contemporary, new adult story with compelling characters and easy prose compromises the pages of Wasted. Humor weaves through the story perfectly. A bit angst leaves us on the edge of our seats with Mason and Lexi. Witty, catching dialogue flows evenly throughout. And a secondary cast that captures our attention as much as the main characters.
Mason Cambridge breaks readers hearts with his fragile emotions escaping from a past that’s left him scarred. He’s a charmer, a no-strings-attached bad boy with a penchant for booze. He’s enigmatic and alluring to Lexi Swafford – the put together yet discovering herself young woman. Mason is as alluring to the reader as he is to Lexi. He's haunted by something and Lexi makes it her mission to not only find out what but to help him fix the hurt. She’s the kind of girl who’s up front about her expectations. Lexi’s not judgmental but she also doesn’t pretend to be something she’s not. The two of them light fires in each other setting off sparks that were quite fun to read.
The story didn’t get a full five stars from me because although I sat down in one sitting to read it (due to length and being properly absorbed in the story) there were times I found it a bit predictable and assuming. Mason and Lexi both hide secrets from each other, hers more obvious than his. There were times I thought to myself, Lexi in particular, why aren’t they more forthcoming? It added to the angst and suspense of the secrets only for a certain length of the story. As the conflict arises and the resolution stems from those secrets I found myself pleasantly placated. Although I do wish we got more of an epilogue with these two, I'm hopeful we'll see some progression of their future with the next books in the series through the eyes of the secondary characters.
If you’re in the mood for new adult love between two funny, witty characters with secrets this is the story for you. Suzannah Daniels wrote an engaging story with Wasted. I’m intrigued and interested in the lives of the secondary characters as well and very much look forward to the Hawk’s story in book two of the Whisky Nights series.
