I did not ever see a bisexual character in a book when I was a teen. Ever. I didn’t know a single bisexual or lesbian or gay or transgender or queer person as a teen. At all. That’s at best just sad, and at worst soul-crushingly lonely. I was convinced that I was broken or defective or strange for years. I was a voracious reader and I firmly believe that if I had encountered bisexual characters in teen literature when I was a teen it would have made my coming out easier.
