This Muslim cop is the fallen hero of the Charlie Hebdo shooting almost everyone is overlooking

In the hours following the deadly attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, much of the public support has been directed toward the victims that worked for the magazine, like editor-in-chief Stéphane Charbonnier, 76-year-old cartoonist Jean Cabut and economist Bernard Maris.

The recognition of their ultimate sacrifice in the name of free speech and open discourse is beautiful, b...

I am asexual. That means different things to different people, but in my case it basically means that I have one of two reactions when confronted with explicit sex in the media:”ew,” or “ew” accompanied by a lot of giggling. Florida counties would rather dismantle courthouse marriages than marry same-sex couples

gaywrites:

With the recent announcement that marriage equality will take effect in Florida on January 6, county clerks everywhere are gearing up to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples for the first time ever.

Except, that is, in the counties that are so offended by same-sex marriage, they are halting all courthouse marriages in order to avoid giving licenses to same-sex couples.

Ronnie Fussell, the c...

Washington, D.C. mayor officially signs bill banning ex-gay therapy for minors

Washington, D.C. mayor officially signs bill banning ex-gay therapy for minors:

gaywrites:

Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray has signed a bill banning “ex-gay” conversion therapy for LGBT youth.

The bill was unanimously approved in early December. D.C. is now the third jurisdiction, after California and New Jersey, to pass a law banning the harmful and traumatic practice of attempting to change a person’s sexual orientation.

“This law ensures that mental health practitioners can no longer abus...

A line of roses lines the street where Michael Brown was shot

Do you remember Michael Brown? Or Ferguson? The whole uprising after a black young man was shot ten times for a very minor crime? That his body was left at the spot for hours after that? That research showed that more black people are unnecessarily killed by police officers? How Brown’s mother told a newsreporter: “Do you know how hard it was for me to get him to stay in school and graduate? Do you know how many black me...
